To his surprise, shortly after there was a knock on his door...it was a couple and their son (maybe in his preteen years?) who was embarrassed and returned the package. His parents explained they had caught him with the contents in his room, asked him where he got it, realized he stole it and marched him back to my relative's house to confess! Excellent parenting! 👏🏻 I assume he learned his lesson after that. 🤷🏻♀️

Last time my neighborhood had a package thief, he stole my nephew's birthday present the day before his birthday. I gloved and bug netted up and rubbed an Amazon box down with poison ivy and trapped a two angry wasps inside it. Judging from the ambulance next door about two hours after my package went missing, I think it's safe to say we know who did it. I honestly was not aware of an allergy to stings at the time, but I regret nothing.

I punch random pedestrians till about noonish till my arms get tired. I take an hour lunch dine dashing and commit arson on the first house I see. When boredom has taken over I will usually pull the car over, stick my hand outside the window showing I’m white. The cops will be irritated, not at the fact of the chase itself, but by me not showing my skin color in the first place. They’ll give me a slap on the wrist and drive me back to my place where I gorge myself on panda meat and bald eagle jerky. God it’s great being white
It is not mail so I doubt that law would apply. Though if it exceeds a certain amount, depending on the state it might be a felony. It would be nice for it to be written into law though.

And it may have happened to quickly, like she may have only saw her stepping into her car and drive off. The thieves will come from a car, grab the goods, and drive off faster than you might grab a device to take a pic.
When I was in law school I had ordered one of my textbooks used on line because it was the only place I could find it, $280 used. I got a notification that it was delivered with a picture, and no shit went down stairs, opened the front door and it was gone. Someone was following the Amazon truck and taking packages almost as soon as they delivered them. I got on Facebook market place the next day and boom there was my text book for sale. I contacted the seller that I wanted to buy it, showed up at the house and asked to see it and said I needed to make sure it was the right one and low and behold the packing list with my name on it and amazon prime account number was neatly tucked inside the book. I stepped about ten steps back from the guy and called the police, which I am friends with. They showed up and arrested the guy for receiving stolen property. He claimed that he bought it at a garage sale but the date and receipt and my text notification from Amazon was proof that he was lying. The police got a search warrant and his three stall garage was completely full of stolen Amazon and UPS packages and also stolen credit cards and mail. Police did their job, judicial system did not, the guy spent one night in jail, pleaded down and is on probation. He is also in this country illegally and due to California sanctuary laws, he has no fear of ever answering for his crimes or being deported.
And this is why people have almost no fear of getting caught. I see this stuff happen all over the country; people get caught on film stealing packages, even getting arrested, and they don't even get slapped on the wrist, more like tapped, and they are back out stealing packages. Few years ago, there was a woman and a man following the Amazon delivery driver around, scooping up the packages immediately after they were delivered. Amazon delivery driver called the police. Both had priors for theft, the courts gave them 30 days probation. I had USPS drop a package at my door at my old apartment complex, the box contained medication. That was stolen, but recovered months later after the police raided another apartment in the same complex for selling drugs. Found tons of stolen packages; the courts dropped the charges of stolen goods.

That's only for federal mail. It has to be delivered by the actual U.S Postal Service to be consider for tampering/theft of federal mail. Stealing packages from any other delivery service is just considered theft. It could be marked up to grand theft depending on the amount stolen or overall value of everything stolen.

Better , cut holes in bottom of box about 1 inch diameter x10 , put layer of tissue paper over holes, mix dog or cat poo (cat is the smelliest) into a sludge with water , as much as possible 2 or 3 pints , fill containers 2 or 3 with sludge and with no tops put in box on top of tissue paper , now pack the vacant areas in box around containers with cutup newspaper , seal box carefully . Hopefully it won't leak out till thief makes it to car or somewhere else pristine or if box is carried and turned sideways will leak out down their leg . Paint can be substituted for excrement if you want to be real nasty , my preference .

Package thieves are everywhere and it's about to get worse during holiday times. Just have your packages dropped off at a retailer where you can pick them up without having to worry about this. The police aren't going to do anything even with video unless you happen to be there to restrain them and catch them in the act.

I am so lucky that my cul de sac has a few retirees living there. One of my neighbors, whenever she hears a truck roll through, comes out just to make sure everything is good. Last xmas season she came to my door and secured a package for me when she saw it from the street. She called me to let me know she had my package at her house. I was so grateful.
Amazon needs to invest in an option when ordering something to include a small tracker inside the package in case it gets lost or stolen. I’d gladly pay a $5-10 fee for one if the order is an expensive one.

might have been an audio delay between the news casters and the reporter on the street. you will often see reports seemingly "wait or stare blankly" while we wait for them to speak. its because they hear a life feed of the news room talking to them, but that audio feed is slower than what we are hearing through the TV broadcast. This is normal for any news report

I remember when people was saying everything was way better in the past but they dont think about world war 2 was happening, lots of diseases couldnt be stopped nearly as well, and everyone worked in a factory.
Personally, I think all these package stealing can be solved with one simple solution. If the person doesn't answer the door right away, don't leave it on the front door step. Leave a note and take it back to the delivery center. Then the person can pick it up whenever they need to. If a thief tries to use the note to take what's not theirs, then the workers for the package center need verification like ID or proof they did indeed order the package. It's not rocket science to solve a simple crime.
In other countries if you are not home they leave the package with a neighbour and post a card through your door telling you where it is. Alternatively they could take it to the nearest post office and you can go pick it up using the card and your ID. Leaving it on the doorstep is just a really stupid idea.

It turns out the garage could only be opened via remote control so the intruder was stuck in the garage for a couple of weeks and had to live off the guy's dog food. The burglar was awarded for damages. "Anal Space."
I once had perps drive INTO my apartment, abandon the car at a local hospital, and when the cops tracked it back to them, they "helped" them report the car as stolen. Didn't matter that they were both bandaged up, they told the cop "this happened in another accident."
The system there is really weird, they should never let the courier leave it outside. In here, the courier have to deliver it directly, sometimes they have to take a pic with the one who received it as the proof. There's an option to send the package to your work place as well.

I've never once had a package stolen. Most folks are pretty decent. I mean I had a silver ring mis-delivered to me once (that one was small enough to go in my mailbox) and did a little detective work to get it to the proper owner.

When I was in law school I had ordered one of my textbooks used on line because it was the only place I could find it, $280 used. I got a notification that it was delivered with a picture, and no shit went down stairs, opened the front door and it was gone. Someone was following the Amazon truck and taking packages almost as soon as they delivered them. I got on Facebook market place the next day and boom there was my text book for sale. I contacted the seller that I wanted to buy it, showed up at the house and asked to see it and said I needed to make sure it was the right one and low and behold the packing list with my name on it and amazon prime account number was neatly tucked inside the book. I stepped about ten steps back from the guy and called the police, which I am friends with. They showed up and arrested the guy for receiving stolen property. He claimed that he bought it at a garage sale but the date and receipt and my text notification from Amazon was proof that he was lying. The police got a search warrant and his three stall garage was completely full of stolen Amazon and UPS packages and also stolen credit cards and mail. Police did their job, judicial system did not, the guy spent one night in jail, pleaded down and is on probation. He is also in this country illegally and due to California sanctuary laws, he has no fear of ever answering for his crimes or being deported.

And this is why people have almost no fear of getting caught. I see this stuff happen all over the country; people get caught on film stealing packages, even getting arrested, and they don't even get slapped on the wrist, more like tapped, and they are back out stealing packages. Few years ago, there was a woman and a man following the Amazon delivery driver around, scooping up the packages immediately after they were delivered. Amazon delivery driver called the police. Both had priors for theft, the courts gave them 30 days probation. I had USPS drop a package at my door at my old apartment complex, the box contained medication. That was stolen, but recovered months later after the police raided another apartment in the same complex for selling drugs. Found tons of stolen packages; the courts dropped the charges of stolen goods.

Better , cut holes in bottom of box about 1 inch diameter x10 , put layer of tissue paper over holes, mix dog or cat poo (cat is the smelliest) into a sludge with water , as much as possible 2 or 3 pints , fill containers 2 or 3 with sludge and with no tops put in box on top of tissue paper , now pack the vacant areas in box around containers with cutup newspaper , seal box carefully . Hopefully it won't leak out till thief makes it to car or somewhere else pristine or if box is carried and turned sideways will leak out down their leg . Paint can be substituted for excrement if you want to be real nasty , my preference .

Package thieves are everywhere and it's about to get worse during holiday times. Just have your packages dropped off at a retailer where you can pick them up without having to worry about this. The police aren't going to do anything even with video unless you happen to be there to restrain them and catch them in the act.

I am so lucky that my cul de sac has a few retirees living there. One of my neighbors, whenever she hears a truck roll through, comes out just to make sure everything is good. Last xmas season she came to my door and secured a package for me when she saw it from the street. She called me to let me know she had my package at her house. I was so grateful.
Amazon needs to invest in an option when ordering something to include a small tracker inside the package in case it gets lost or stolen. I’d gladly pay a $5-10 fee for one if the order is an expensive one.

Personally, I think all these package stealing can be solved with one simple solution. If the person doesn't answer the door right away, don't leave it on the front door step. Leave a note and take it back to the delivery center. Then the person can pick it up whenever they need to. If a thief tries to use the note to take what's not theirs, then the workers for the package center need verification like ID or proof they did indeed order the package.
It's not rocket science to solve a simple crime.
In other countries if you are not home they leave the package with a neighbour and post a card through your door telling you where it is.
Alternatively they could take it to the nearest post office and you can go pick it up using the card and your ID. Leaving it on the doorstep is just a really stupid idea.

The system there is really weird, they should never let the courier leave it outside. In here, the courier have to deliver it directly, sometimes they have to take a pic with the one who received it as the proof. There's an option to send the package to your work place as well.

Vader56 BJ I think that is a better idea where a package comes and you go and pick up it at the post office by putting a letter of some kind in the mailbox but at the same time you got to make sure the package belongs to that person so hopefully when you go they show identification and besides sometimes people don't get to go out that much and some people might not drive and the package is going into the post office would be inconvenient for many so it has its good in bed

Other options are to deliver to your work address, leave with the neighbours, etc., the options are all decided at the time of placing the order. If one is not at home just leaving it unsecured is ridiculous as this video demonstrate.

I've never once had a package stolen. Most folks are pretty decent. I mean I had a silver ring mis-delivered to me once (that one was small enough to go in my mailbox) and did a little detective work to get it to the proper owner.
