I love the fact that for a brief moment, the bot spammers showed up and someone who was operating them noticed what was going on and just decided to abandon ship.
That in itself is a pretty great own on the bot spammers.
You're giving them too much credit. I'm sure the bots have code to abandon any stream that goes into emote only mode for a certain amount of time.

I'm gonna be honest, if I popped into Doug's stream and saw the entire chat screaming happy birthday, I would assume it was a bit before I assumed it was actually his birthday
I was there that day and legitimately thought it was a bit for a good 20 minutes.
I love that Dougdoug's solution to people striking and wanting rights was to only allow them to use words from a document famously about declaring war for not having enough rights.
The funniest part about this is that he accidentally left the "1 in 10,000 chance to end the stream" thing on during the next stream, and then got confused why the stream kept ending out of nowhere.
That is absolutely hilarious, oh my god. How long did it take for him to discover the code was still running?

The fact that twitch chat got the 0.001% BEFORE the 1% is the biggest use plot armor EVER.

He thought that 10,000 was low odds, but it's actually likely to happen fairly quickly.
This is because the only way to roll the dice for say the 500th message is if the previous 499 messages didn't trigger it.
We can find the expected number of messages required for 50/50 odds of the stream ending by solving the following equation:
P(🔨)^x=0.5 where P(🔨) is the odds of the message resulting in a ban and the stream continuing.
(1-0.0001)^x=0.5
(0.9999)^x=0.5
log_0.9999(0.5)=x
x=ln(0.5)/ln(0.9999)
If stream ended before they posted a total of 6931 messages, then they beat the odds.

the fact that dougs audience is still growing after banning nearly all of them multiple times amazes me. if he would just let them be he would overtake everyone on the entire platform
Well it's not a perma-ban. If it was then his stream might not even survive lol. Also he tries to stream on a weekly basis from what I know, so usually by the next stream all his chatters are unbanned already. If not then they will certainly be unbanned by the stream after that.

@@jayde4872Some of those messages he was getting seems like some actual butthurt, although Twitch chat definitely blurs the line a lot sometimes. Still, he's big enough that Twitch probably won't bother him too much, but then their admin team doesn't have the best track record either... hrm.

I had randomly joined the stream when it was live at the exact point his dad got banned having no clue what was going on and just immediately went "Ah this is what we're doing today"
It's incredibly funny how the banning bot was activated so chat wouldn't be too focused on Doug's birthday and not pay attention to Spelunky, only for the banning to completely take over the stream anyway
