ads only make sense when you're not doing something important- i used to have a redeem to tell me when an ad was auto playing so i could wait for it to end. it ruined the flow of the stream bc either i stopped to wait for the ad or i let viewers miss important moments
or something else, like when ur gonna do something for an hour and dont want any interuptions for the chat, so you play like 3min of ads to not get any auto ads during the event or whatever.
So, interestingly enough, I used to be a moderator for a smallish twitch streamer. He would much rather prefer not playing ads at all, and just relying on subscriptions. However, that wasn't an option for him. I'm not sure how it is now. But back then, he could either manually run ads every now and again, or have it automatically run for viewers at the start of them loading into the stream(and sometimes randomly during the stream IIRC). Given those two options, he much rather preferred the first one if he could do it whenever he got interrupted and needed to take care of something IRL. The only issue is that he constantly forgot to run an ad every time there was a reasonable time to do so. So that ended up being part of my job was managing the ads. All in all, ads just suck all around. I think both viewers and creators can generally agree on that.

I got an unskippable Dune ad, then got the second ad in the ad break, looked up and realized the video continued without me realizing because the ad break ended directly into the start of a Chips Ahoy ad.
In psychology there is this study where when left alone in a room for long enough with a button that they know electrocutes them, people would press the button because they would rather be in pain than bored, same thing here

Oh my god, way back when I worked in a supermarket there was an ad for Chips Ahoy that used the chorus of the song Don't You Want Me and they played it THREE TIMES AN HOUR for the ENTIRE DAY, opening to close, for WEEKS. The same ad every time, every twenty minutes, "Don't you want me babeeee" over the store speakers. It was a crime so egregious as to be beyond redemption.
This reminded me that when technoblade used to stream, he kept saying “subscribe to technoblade” to the point it was a catchphrase and became a community joke that he sells out. This spiraled into him making promoting stuff and selling out part of his brand. Honestly 2000 IQ
