I can come up with one reason why you’d use gunboats as trolldier. Some people use it to simulate rocket jumping and market gardening as roamer soldier, and since there’s no secondary to protect yourself, you’re forced to improve if you want a chance to survive

@@kewlman5417 the point is that mantreads change your trajectory because they improve your air strafing, so if you're practicing specifically to improve your gardens on roamer soldier, it can be worth handicapping yourself for learning purposes so that you don't ruin your strafing muscle memory

When you whipped out the rocket jumper I was expecting you to say swapping the mantreads for a shotgun. Guess now I get to try and think about it myself!
Here's what I'm thinking about such a loadout-
1. Shotgun gives you an answer to pyros that would airblast *both* your sources of damage.
2. Gives you some fast, conditionless close-quarters damage if garden fails to kill, making up for mantreads damage
3. they'll see your rocket jumper and might be tricked into thinking you're helpless on the ground
Now, you will be having the downside of just being slower trolldier on things that the market gardener doesn't 1-hit, trading mantreads for an extra shotgun shell or two, and you'll still struggle a bit against sentries, but it could be an option if pyros are your bigger matchup problem, or if you're playing on maps that'll sometimes force you into tighter quarters.

Best thing about the Air Strike is that even if you're unable to get the Market Gardener due to the map you're in, you can still dominate with the multiple clips you have alone. Such an underrated gem of a weapon!

The Cow Mangler is secretly the silliest Trolldier weapon. If you pair it with the Mantreads and use the secondary fire to jump with, Soldier will T-pose on his descent

Another problem with the faster projectile speed from the direct hit and liberty launcher is that sync jumps become functionally impossible. I'm sure they're possible on some super-tall map intentionally designed for jumping, like maybe a double or quadruple sync jump, but not in realistic gameplay.
Give it up for Soundsmith, the only RUclipsr on the planet who can make a sponsored segment you don't automatically want to skip through.

I ADORE this more choppy, snappy full animation mixed with Gmod, and Id assume its less work intensive then like, fully animating all of the non-gameplay skits lik you do in the Manns Guide, I honestly really hope this style stays, its super nice, and hopefully is a lot less torture for ProGamingNerd and everyone else animating in SFM, and probably just working with it in general-

Keep in mind that more technical jumps become either really difficult or completely impossible with higher projectile speed. You are NOT using the Direct Hit to hit a sync.
I'm not sure what it is you're using but I think this sort of "puppetry" animation is really cool and gives it a distinct feel!

God I love the airstrike even as just part of reg soldier because the 8 rocket capacity is such a blessing. Even with the long reload times and lower damage and smaller splash, you have 8 rockets. You simply have a much MUCH larger margin of error and attrition force than any other soldier because no one else can shoot 8 rockets without reloading. And it gives you burst damage on par with the direct hit and even faster sentry busting capabilities even at 0 kills (3*76 damage rockets = 228 damage > 216 needed to kill a level 3) cause you can get 3 rockets out in like 1/2 a second. Hell pair it with a shotgun, you can have 14 shots before you have to reload, each of which can deal in the range of 90 damage. Amazed the airstrike's not even used more, especially since the damage output doesn't very badly weigh your damage threshold, it's still very likely to kill light classes and meds in 2 hits, as well as it's expected to kill heavies in 4 and other soldiers in 3 rockets anyway, not many players can realistically and consistently kill heavies in 3 rockets or enemy soldiers in just 2 rockets with stock, I guess the argument for it being worse vs pyro's and demo's who could be easily killed in 2 stock rockets might now consistently start taking 3 rockets instead.
