EDIT: I am very wrong about random crit damage contributing to random crit chance. If you hit someone for -234 with the Skullcutter, only the base damage of 78 is counted towards your “damage done in the past 20 seconds” meaning I am supremely wrong in saying your chances immediately go up 13% after getting a random crit. shounic made a video on this and I trust him, he’s smart, so my bad. Also this means I failed my own random critology course which is a little tragic.
The extra damage from critical hits do not count towards raising the random critical hit chance. Every single swing will only contribute 78 damage to your crit chance, even if you're really doing 234 damage. The fastest way to max out your crit chance on the Skullcutter is to equip some kind of grenade launcher and hit as many direct pipes as possible, since each pipe contributes 100 damage, rather than 78. Reaching max crit chance takes 8 pipes, instead of over 10 Skullcutter swings.
So the Skullcutter is very good for Hybrid Knight. Thats funny because my #1 go to loadout is Skullcutter, Loch n Load and Charge n Targe. Loch N Load for anti sentry and mid range combat, Skullcutter for anything that gets too close, and Targe for get-aways, surprise charges on Vacc Medics and damage resist against pyros and demos. I guess I accidentally made a really good combo loadout.
Back when I was new to tf2, I tried out demoknight and had the skull cutter equipped, I then proceeded to charge a enemy medic and random crit them and they typed in the chat “ skull cutter crit crutch” truly a highlight moment that I will remember, especially since that was the first time I ever made someone mad in tf2

as for the tide turner bug, if you spectate someone in first person, upon respawning your shield will show up where they were last. you can fix this by doing "cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1; cl_first_person_uses_world_model 0" in console.
snowcicle was clearly using crit bucket at 10:21 you can see him getting a crit, toggling it off to preserve bucket charge after he lost line of sight and toggling it on when elmaxo charges him. You can see that it took about the same ammount of time as the avg human reaction for him to toggle it on again. The chances of getting a random crit on the same spin-up as heavy are so low, imagine on the same second... He also had silent aim on that clip.
if you actually go frame by frame there is no toggling of the crit. between halfway through 10:23 and halfway through 10:25 every shot they fire is a crit. while i don't actually know how long the crit period lasts for, but it's long enough to get double crits with the hot hand. a little under 2 seconds sounds about right to me
the skullcutter is also pretty nice for targeting enemy demoknights because the crit leaves even max head demoknights on 1hp, which they are NOT surviving. even on servers that lack random crits, using a critshield allows you to instantly pull them back to earth. if they're overhealed, utilise the splendid screen shieldbash to total 319 damage instead of just 234 :)
Is that the famous youtuber who makes very good trimping tutorials for the splendid screen? good to see ya lol Also, as a demoknight player i hate the scullcutter, bc the enemy demo always gets a crit with it, so i always run away from them until i have 4 heads and then i try oneshotting them with the charge crit. Once i was playing against a friend on degroot keep and they swapped to this weapon just to counter me and i still managed to dominate him, winning some fights with 1 hp. As a demoknight you gotta make sure that the scullcutter guy doesnt hit you, no matter how much health and how many teammates you have before you, never try tanking the one hit because a stray bullet will kill you even if you win the duel. Use your speed, and scullcutter's lack of speed to do the weird wiggly dance, and hit them without being hit.
The 1HP survival definitely does happen and it's the only ace up the sleeve of a skilled demoknight that knows what they're doing against an axe noob that swings and prays. The only crucial thing to remember aside from the obvious "don't get hit a second time" is to also not jump or charge in mid-air because then the random crit will in all likelihood send you high enough that you do die from fall damage. And besides seizing on opportunities to attack someone who is not paying attention to you when you are a short distance away, most people that use the skullcutter would not know how to properly time a charge to grant them a crit as point-blank bash crits got removed.
1. The shields will glitch in the air if you are spectating in first person right as you respond 2. You are not the clown for using the skullcutter, you are the entire circus. 3. Did I not tell you to use the claid in the detonator video?
The skullcutter is my go-to on demo, not even demoknight. The extra damage and random crits making a crit instantly take off someone's head is just super satisfying. Sticky jump in and hope for the best
It’s pretty solid on regular demo esp because the movespeed penalty only comes into play when you’re using it, and you’re probably not gonna whip it out until you’re in range anyway
I believe it was DESIGNED to take advantage of the crit system and also be a check to Eyelander... the fact this guy can walk out of spawn and just end your Eyelander killstreak is hilarious
That's the literal design of tf2 Rock paper scissors everything has a counter but players are too stupid to realize this and thus everything got nerfed
One thing to note about the Skullcutter is that it’s slower movement speed penalty affects your charge distance as you’re moving slower compared to if you had 4 heads for max speed with the eyelander where you’d match/surpass the charge distance of a Claidemohr Demoknight
@@Kossumies6 it could still be that valve tried to fix it and just messed up, or that it eas readded later on. I dont resllu know any details about it, solar just talks about the skullcutter slowing your charge in his big charge video essay

I think the visual bug with the shield has something to do with dropping weapons when you die, the shield still has the properties of a weapon being held (I.E visible through walls and disappears if you turn off viewmodels), when it happens to me I like to position my character so it looks like it's still on lol
The glitchy "extender" swing is probably really useful with the skullcutter. When you start a melee swing and THEN charge, you get more range than demo's swords no matter which weapon you're using and are still able to swing again in the same charge. The one downside of the extender swing is that it has to not crit, but that basically does not exist with this thing.
I think with only one eye, Demoman always sees straight. He's not using his missing eye for anything. Also yeah, those weapons bring so much power to the Demoknight, you can barely stop them if you're in their sight, all you can do is try and fight back, or run and hope to survive.
I love using the half zatoichi with the tide turner demoknight or not. Besides the random chance some other guy is using the sword and one shots you out of the blue, you can keep a constant 300 hp and always have a mini crit charge ready if you play right. It's best especially for the comboknight, where if you're on low health it's a better alternative to the caber. It actually gives you good damage and a chance to live instead of just... unreliable and terrible damage
The axe is definitely the silliest weapon.. giving a melee only class who relies on movement to get around a movement penalty is a bit.. lol, definitely meant to be used as a demoman melee than a demoknight's; when random crits are thrown in the mix though.. things definitely get a lot sillier That said, I think you should give the Half-Zatochi and Claidheamh Mòr some more time, I often find myself using them way more than the eye lander. The Half-Zatochi is the perfect demoknight sword most of the time for me, it lets you take risky plays you normally couldn't because of the immediately massive health reward, it lets you escape after getting an important pick thanks to the healing, it lets you stay in the fight and go on insane rampages thanks the healing, I've cleared entire control points by getting back to back kills thanks to it's healing ability alone, definitely the best generalist sword in my opinion. For the Claidheamh Mor, it's very useful on long maps where players are usually spread out, best paired with the tide turner for 100% charge refill after each kill. You'll usually be engaging players from a further distance, and the extra charge duration makes a world of difference in that scenario. Outside of using the Claidheamh Mor, the Splendid screen is the best shield, the extra charges, bonus charge damage and decent durability really glue it together, it also doesn't have the charge-time-damage penalty of the tide turner The eyelander I usually see as a niche weapon, it's either good for when you're already winning and want to win harder, or good for when there's scouts on the enemy team giving you a hard time so you want the extra movement speed it offers to catch up. It doesn't come with any innate benefits and starts you off with a pretty brutal health penalty, once you at least two kills though it starts to shine, but that can be a lot to ask sometimes against a team weary of your presence when you have no benefits to help you out in that scenario until you halfway finish your head quest. It's by all means great when it's great, but feels like a curse when it isn't.
The persian is my personal main sword, as it gives you so many charges so often that you can reliably use your charges for pure mobility going around the map, planning your route based on the positions of ammo packs. Effectively, you become faster than a scout if your routes are good. It also allows for such stupid cheese in getting out of rough situations you should not reasonably EVER be able to survive otherwise. It's similar to the katana in allowing a lot more survivability, because after hitting just one crit kill you get 95% of your charge back, practically always giving you a charge for escape. It's not AS generalist as the katana, but it's up there, and I find it to be the most rewarding despite how underrated it is.
heres the weird thing with the skull cutter. Notice how all of his swords have a special attribute? - the eyelander is an all-round melee - the zatoichi is all about sustain - the Persian Persuader is more about aggression with its charge on ammo packs. - and the Claidheamh Mòr is good on hybrid knight. and what is the skullcutter's attribute? its entire gimmick is to get as many random crits as possible.
It wasn't forgotten, random crits were added to the skullcutter because of semantics, the rule for no random crits was no random crits allowed on *swords* of which, the skullcutter is technically not
The presence of crits on the skullcutter is probably what its power is over the other swords. It's a big chunky beating stick that gives you no out in a fight, worse speed, no health restore, no way to get charge back from pickups. This is a snowball by damage number and not by survival
I’ve been using it for a while for the shits and giggles, never really started taking it seriously until I started hitting a few too many crits. Elmaxo is very correct, the Skullcutter is very silly goofy
@@NoName...... If you're actually good at hybrid demo you don't need to be able to outrun the fastest class in the game. You're a hybrid because you're not willing to take up the risk that comes with getting rid of your grenade launcher, one of the most insane dps weapons in the game. So if you're capable of employing common sense, maybe you'd realize that as a hybrid you only use your melee when it's beneficial.

Let that sink in.
elmaxo when he walks directly at his class counter and dies
7:53 just you wait, venussian rapper is ‘bout to drop a video about you after that kill xddd
5:19 This is such a pure genuine laughter Its like a toddler experiencing I Got Your Nose for the first time
Well said. Elmaxo really found childlike delight in striking fear into the heart of that medic. Which is king shit, imo 👑
Nothing that makes my day better than when Elmaxo (TF2's most professional gamer) uploads!
The Half-Zatoichi is my personal favourite sword but the Skullcutter is really the one for the occasion where you want to feel like a goober
I love the fact this subclass is built around swords and they were just like "Give that drunk guy a battleaxe, It'll be funny"
actually the golf club is better, because golf club

Legend says he is still turning around, critting and thanking the game
heres the weird thing with the skull cutter. Notice how all of his swords have a special attribute?
- the eyelander is an all-round melee
- the zatoichi is all about sustain
- the Persian Persuader is more about aggression with its charge on ammo packs.
- and the Claidheamh Mòr is good on hybrid knight.
and what is the skullcutter's attribute?
its entire gimmick is to get as many random crits as possible.
This video continues to demonstrate why I love random crits. They cause such ridiculousness, it's lovely.
But muh skillz

2:40 why his eyebrows look drawn on
I find in medieval mode especially the crit rate is like a hidden stat that puts it above some of the other swords for me 👀
Too bad no one plays medieval mode anymore.
@@Scarifar1 I play It daily and the server is basically always full.
The Skullcutter is also the only sword-type weapon demo has without a taunt kill, right? Just another thing to set it apart.
5:49 I literally was looking at the description at the same time of this joke
Gotta say my favourite demoknight weapon is the ham cause
1: random crits
2: you're killing people with a goddamn demoham tf2
hear me out. He's useful when you dont have the eyelander, and that attack bonus really kicks in sometimes.
The claidheamh mor is way better
Depending on your playstyle
It wasn't forgotten, random crits were added to the skullcutter because of semantics, the rule for no random crits was no random crits allowed on *swords* of which, the skullcutter is technically not
Elmaxo: Eyelander reigns surpreme over the other swords
Nessies Nine Iron/Headless Horseless Horsemans Headtaker: Do i not exist?
Erm, actually, those are a golf club and an axe
That medic popped uber because he knew the 234 damage was coming
Gotta love how "random" crits aren't actually random
You wouldn't have to worry about that if you use the claidheamh mor
they're still random
With this weapon it's called random noncrits
This man has the most calm laugh😂.
This guy is genuinely insane
Valve be like for Skullcutter: *We doin a little trolling.....*
2:48 I hear the music from when Alphys was introduced in Undertale with this and it fits rather well for some reason. Good vid
When a RUclipsr says they hate random crits, my respect for them goes up because they validated my unbridled anger. Thank you Eskimole.
But his reasoning here is based on a flatly incorrect assumption...
3:25 I don't mind random crits, but what I do mind is having to look at a grown man with a tiny, shiny earring, that he stole from his 6yr old sister.
shut up
I passed clown college!
When you realize the pain that is Skullcutter crits doing 1 less damage than the max hp of Eyelander knights with 4 heads and booties
The presence of crits on the skullcutter is probably what its power is over the other swords. It's a big chunky beating stick that gives you no out in a fight, worse speed, no health restore, no way to get charge back from pickups. This is a snowball by damage number and not by survival
It's kinda weird that I don't see many people using the skullcutter in casual with stock demo, I mean, it has random crits people, *Random crits*
Probably cause you can't hit anyone since your so slow
I’ve been using it for a while for the shits and giggles, never really started taking it seriously until I started hitting a few too many crits. Elmaxo is very correct, the Skullcutter is very silly goofy
@@NoName...... use it with stickybomb launcher or the sticky jumper if you're in dire need of mobility

14:19 okay daaammnn that was pretty fucking slick max
Elmaxo: "Stop being a bitch and fight me like a man"
My wireless earbuds: "Goodbye"
I dont blame that medic. If some random guy came running at me with a massive battle axe making solid eye contact in the middle of a sewage canal, I'd pop uber too.
15:25 the disheveled “I’ve been practicing” sounded so genuinely sad
Nooooem (•n•)
1:47 You missed an opportunity to say "RNGsus"
Its interesting to see this after watching solarlight's video declaring the eyelander as not king in any category
At 12:53 when the scout killed you his name was clown coach
Would be funny but I regret to inform you elmaxo was named clown coach in the clip
11:38 all that talk about clown school yet no joke about being killed by a spy named bing bong? 😂
You’re the reason I have trauma, I’ve seen everyone use this or the eyelander and I seethe
"we hit them with the counter silly!! :D"
amazing
Im actually not lying when i say: Im a level 2 student of the Clown Collage of "somethingsomething" and this video helped me out ALOT while preparing for the final exam!!! THANKS ALOT ELMAXO!! GOD BLESS YOU
