- A test of a style of video I want to try! This is a video from creator Grouch that's been floating around the TF2 sphere recently and become rather infamous for the absurd rebalance ideas. Originally I wanted to dissect them with fellow weapon rebalance enthusiast FishStickOnAStick as a more serious analysis of what makes rebalances work and not. However, upon having more friends join the discussion and seeing more and more ridiculous rebalances, it became a lot more silly. Let me know if this is something you'd like to see more of!

MY REQUEST TO YOU: Please do not harass Grouch over this video - in fact, do the opposite and check out his non-rebalance related stuff! I'm sure he knows by now that his ideas in this video are questionable, and the rest of his work is actually super solid. Everyone occasionally puts some weird takes on the internet (myself included), and although that can certainly warrant criticism, from what I've seen of Grouch in particular it's very much a standout in the greater scheme of his entire catalog.

"Why upload this on your side channel instead of your main?" The direction my main channel is heading is beginning to warrant higher and higher quality per video which I don't think quicker videos like this uphold very well. While this wouldn't have felt out of place on Great Blue 2-3 years ago while I was still experimenting quite a bit, nowadays I really want every upload on there to feel exciting rather than having a bunch of filler. That being said, these quicker videos are still a lot of fun to make, and the only reason I stopped doing them was for the quality reasons mentioned above. So my compromise is to use Blue's Stockpile (probably to be renamed soon) as a "parallel universe" channel that has videos more conceptually inline with my 2019-2022 uploads (at least before the "What If?"/stuff with friends started taking over).

Cuz if medic can heal you but only SLIGHTLY faster than you die from bleed than clearly you are making the medic choose from being useful or sitting there wasting 20 seconds fixing you while only getting 1% uber from it, so giving the medic the option is clearly worse than not giving him one at all

No you see your not accounting for the psychological damage your inflicting. I mean have you ever been shot before? It's very traumatic, and with each shot your imparting more and more trauma onto the player till they get PTSD. It's really a buff depending on your point of view

@@peterpanther23 The Pomsons main problem is the fact the projectile is completely broken nearby teammates at ANY distance it will be deleted. No other projectile acts this way. It used to penetrate teammates and buildings before Valve somehow messed it all up. Rn it forces you as the Engineer to stay away from your teammates which is very very bad. The projectile being slow was never the problem.

Some time later revisiting this, I think a core driving force to the decision making here, regardless of intentions, was basically "how do i make this interesting".
Most of the video was basically making wacky new weapons with other weapons being used as a starting point.

The best part of the video is that there are moments of genuinely good ideas, like buffing the steak's speed. It makes all the utterly baffling ones so much more painful.

I can balance the Danger Shield:
The first critical shot that hits the sniper has its damage negated, and the sniper becomes covered in Jarate. It then breaks and is only restored from the Cabinet.
Another one: when sniper would take lethal damage, he survives, and then gets old school max sandman stunned

heavy main here The dalokohs bar does not heal 50 hp it heals 100 hp. It always gives you the 50 health overheal if you are below 300 hp, so if you are not max hp it always gives you 100hp. It only heals for 50hp if you are at the max of 300. Don't believe me? Test it for yourself.

What if Heavy's hypothetical riot shield only reduced damage instead of negating damage? make it a more interesting alternative to the Fists of Steel.
That is quite literally what the fists of steel does, 40% damage resistance to range damage (it does not negate damage)

Two way teleporters are a terrible idea for normal gameplay for a pretty obvious reason they don't mention for some reason. Your entire team has instant access to the resupply cabinet from anywhere on the map.
I don't know why, but I can't get the idea of the Ullapool Caber acting like the Market Gardener out of my head.
Like think the Caber's explosion launches demo to space then the blown up version gets crits.
This started as a meme in my head but now I want to make it just because.
I mean, in defense of the enforcer, the idea of a spy weapon that doesn’t deal immediate damage, allowing his position to remain uncompromised while the enemy dies *is* a pretty interesting concept. In practice, however, any hypothetical weapon made with that philosophy would just be extremely weak, because he has to decloak no matter what, and if not, then it’s basically a less reliable version of the YER. Spy is a pick class and sometimes needs immediate results, so a slow kill weapon would be effectively worthless outside of niche scenarios that you couldn’t possibly predict.
The Enforcer change is horrible though, I’m just saying a concept with that loose idea in mind
I think sarwins danger shield can be creatively reworked to be fun, just make it let youbite back. +50% melee damage when suffering from afterburn. There, now pyros CAN still kill you, at just the same speed, but they better be ready to use airblasts and evasive manouvers to keep you away, because you bite back.

It's actually refreshing to watch this video after watching Zesty's reaction, because he seemed to take it infinitely more seriously (despite hating eSports, apparently).

bleed in games really just be either basically useless unless utilised in large stacks (first example i can think of is warhammer darktide) or the most ridiculous thing in the game (elden ring)
Key difference there being DoTs are almost always worse than burst damage.
Also Elden Ring's emphasis on single large enemies versus Tide games having waves of expendables you can typically kill simply enough without bleed.
I have an idea for the rework of the enforcer, give it one shot in the clip, make the damage bonus always apply, and give it a new upside, instantly reloads on hit, kind of like the Widowmaker

Kinda high right now, so take these ideas with a grain of salt, none of these are serious.
How to buff the heater:
-change nothing, make the ring a bubble. It's still poopy and situational but now the situational advantage can't just be entirely negated by hitting the spacebar before planting a knife in the big fella's back.
A possible way to buff the shahanshah:
-speed boost on hit or speed boost on kill. Reward the player for surviving the encounter by letting them reposition faster.
How to fix the diamondback:
-make it follow phlog rules with a meter instead of being banked.
How to fix the enforcer:
-give it an obscenely high rapidly decaying firerate after uncloaking or breaking diguise, just dump the entire cylinder at whatever smartass pyro found you out. Iunno, spy panic attack seems funny and distinct.
Up until the sniper rifle changes, "Eh, not amazing, but I don't see what everyone's problem is". After that, it was non-stop laughter from the absurdity of nearly every change. All those sniper changes do is increasing his skill floor, while making him even better in hands of an expert. The Enforcer change makes it both the most useless and the most annoying weapon in the game - it's like hit scan Wrap Assassin, problem is, it's on the Spy. And the Scorch Shot change makes the problem of brainlessly spamming the corridor with it even worse, because now it doesn't even need to be reloaded so if you're next to an ammo pack or a dispenser, I guess that sucks for the enemy team.

It's probably still bullsh!t anyway, but in a "okay, you get to bypass the normal nerfs I placed on snipers, but you'll get entirely different nerfs" kind of way.

@@Jorvalt Hopefully so, but given his other edits, I'm not assuming. Even if that's the case...You can still be clapped in one hit by almost every class in the game. Only medics can't kill you in one shot without a crit. Technically heavies, too...But that minigun will still shred you before you can get away if you're even mid-range.
@@RookMeAmadeus It is only for scout, I'm pretty sure--although it was talked over--he said that the scout gets full health from ALL health packs too. Not just dropping full hp packs.

You know what changes like the Eureka Effect reminded me of? Reading through the framedata and strategies regarding characters from JoJo: Heritage For The Future.
You'd go through an entire list of utterly sick-nasty stuff that'd be absolutely broken in any other fighting game, only to get hit by "yeah also over half the cast is immune against his gameplan for most of the match lmao, he's bottom tier and if you throw someone, you get killed for hitting a move". The whiplash is palpable.
I never played that game so I need an example.
@@Spacebugg Hol Horse is pretty much exactly what I described here.
His whole gameplan centers around knocking the opponent down and hitting them with nasty setups, often involving his glass shots (he can shoot the ceiling to make glass fall down). You have to block them standing, and since he can move as they fall, he can simultaneously hit you with a move you'd have to block crouching. So you're getting hit either way, it's unblockable. Same applies to his unblockable Slow Bullet super, if he shoots that thing out while you're on the ground and places it on top of you, you're eating the hit as soon as you get up. Nothing you can do about it, because you can't do anything but block for the first frame after you wake up from a knockdown in this game. Slow Bullet is an absurd move in general, it's what gives Hol a fighting chance.
All in all, if Hol gets a good start, he can often just end the round from there by looping these things, and he also boasts suprisingly high chip damage.
The problem is that a large chunk of the cast can just... turn both of these win conditions off. "Active Stand" characters can summon their stand to fight with them, and while it's out, they don't take chip and can't be knocked down. Same applies to Weapon Stand characters if I recall correctly. Meaning Hol, lacking great ways to open people up, has to resort to running away, zoning and trying to sneak hits in. But while his kit _is_ geared towards that, the low damage he gets off of hitting you if he can't do his loops makes this a very tough situation for him. The fact that Active Stand characters tend to be higher on the tier list doesn't help either.
And yeah, his throw just... let's the opponent recover way earlier than you. They can punish you for landing it. I don't know why they made it that way.
This is the last place I expected to see HFTF being mentioned on but this is a pretty good comparison actually.
The Caber change is actually a deep diss to valve: as the demo dies and respawns, the engi will have built a new sentry, the demo will forever be on a treadmill of destroying, dying, respawn and doing it all over again

If he was going for the Machina tracer rounds angle with the Sniper Rifles, then why not invert the Heatmaker? Have it fire off tracer rounds normally, then fire off "stealth" rounds when in Focus mode.
Would it be very annoying still? Yeah, but at least you know the Sniper player _earned_ the right to be annoying for 10 seconds, instead of earning the right to show the entire enemy team where their hiding spot is.

I think if you really wanted the Hitman's heatmaker to be the "stealth sniper" that gets to not have tracers, it should have the classic's downside of needing a full charge in order to headshot. That way you get the old upside of the enemy team not being able to see you, but you can't just quickscope light classes at the drop of a hat

I think another way would be to instead replace the focus with no bullet tracers. But then again that probably just works better as it's own concept rather then reworking the Hitmans Heatmaker.
It allows you to camp for a bit, yeah, but you have only a limited amount of time/bullets before you're revealed again and have to switch spots.
