I met an elderly couple at the range one day; they were trying to teach their college-bound granddaughter how to shoot. The only gun they had was a 5-shot .22 Magnum revolver. One of those NAA pocket pistols with a folding grip. I stood and watched this poor girl as she cringed in anticipation of each trigger pull and then shook her hands as if they had just been struck with a ball-peen hammer. She was clearly NOT enjoying this experience. I introduced myself to them and offered her my TX22 to shoot. I walked them through the process of loading and chambering the weapon, gave her some brief instructions on safety, grip, and sight picture, and turned her loose. She fired her first shot and gave me a HUGE smile. 150 or so rounds later she and her Grandparents thanked me and went straight to Atwoods and bought one.
I see them at the range from time to time. Still running the TX22. She's actually quite proficient with it now.

I have had the Taurus since it was released. I have always avoided this brand because of reputation but this gun is American made so I tried it. I could not be more pleased, it’s an amazing pistol. I have put well into the 2000 round mark with 0 issues. It’s not ammo sensitive or quirky in any way. Magazines for the pistol are simple to load and very reliable. Sights, finish and overall construction are good, what else do you want at this price!!

I also have both, and I put the red dot mount on my TX22 and the stainless guide rod... I have ran close to a thousand rounds in my SIG and closer to 2000 on the tx. Love them both and shoot both suppressed, but with the tandemcross mag extensions on the Taurus mags, I find myself enjoying it more than the SIG. I also routinely have less failures with the Taurus as well. The SIGs failure problems are almost all mag related, but if you load the mags properly, you can fit in one more round and will have less failures.

I've been carrying the TX22 when feeding the farm for a while now. It's been perfectly reliable (*) to the point where if that is the only handgun on me, I don't feel the need to to go back and get a centerfire.
That being said, the asterisk was earned by shjtty quality control. I put the thread protector (but after extensive use) and carried it for several days. Later I needed to dispatch a chicken house predator and got a click-no-bang. Took two clearings to get a shot off.
After much examination, the barrel was threaded too deeply or the thread adapter was too short. It stopped the slide from reaching battery by JUST enough to cause light strikes (during troubleshooting I had about a 50% success/failure rate)
I would trust this gun with my life (as configured today, with tested ammo) but here's the punchline..
It is still a fkn taurus.

It seems like everyone who has a TX22 loves it, and the ability to choose between with/without external safety, and frame colour, _and_ be able to buy a standard or competition upper so you can have both versions is really just the icing on the cake for the TX22, not to mention the Competition takes full size red dots, it isnt limited to shield micro sized red dots like the P322 is.

Thanks for the info - glad to see higher capacity 22lr semi-auto pistols on the market.
Many moons ago, I picked up a 22lr Sig Mosquito, to help teach my kids and other folks new to firearms/pistols how to safely manipulate and properly shoot a semi-auto pistol. Definitely served its purpose well, but boy was it a picky eater (which was helpful at times). Thankfully, mini-mags always ran well. My Ruger 10-22 and Sig Mosquito were always a great pair for teaching new folks how to safely and effectively operate semi-auto firearms.
On a separate note, I want to thank you for your efforts in defending our American freedoms. Unfortunately, many RUclips and social media firearm channels/enthusiasts lack bravery and fail to use their fame, influence and considerable fan base to help support and protect our American freedoms, yet their very livelihood is directly dependent on said freedoms. It's very disappointing that they choose not to actively participate in preserving and restoring our rights and freedoms. Within their huge fan bases, I'm certain there are a lot of dissatisfied folks in the middle and other side of the political teeter totter, that are finally opening their eyes and beginning to understand the importance of restoring and maintaining our rights as American citizens. Reaching all these folks and providing THE truth (there is only one) about all the tyranny currently in play and helping them to understand why we need to stop it, could have a huge positive impact on preserving our rights.
    Stay frosty out there folks!

I'll take the TX 22 for a couple of reasons.
    1. Holster compatability. After shaving the nub off the front of the trigger guard the tx22 fits my walther pdp holster. I've also heard that it fits Glock 19 holsters (I can't confirm this though). Whereas the Sig 322 is not compatible with any existing holsters so you would have to buy a new one, added cost to an already pricey 22.
    2. Price: For the price of the sig 322 I can get a tx22 and upgrade it with a dovetail red dot mount and a red dot and still have money left for hundreds of rounds of 22.
As a training aid it's a no brainer to me. As a plinker the extra couple rounds in the sig 322 is nice, but it doesn't justify the extra price.

I have the standard TX22, as well as the TX22 Competition. Both are amazing .22lr semi-auto pistols. I think if you compare the Sig vs. The TX22 Competition, which are closer in price comparrison, the TX22 Competition wins every time.

Standard Tx22 owner. Take it out and put a box of bulk through it weekly. The usual occasional light primer strike or magazine related failure, but the pistol has been very reliable for a .22lr handgun. Just keep it clean and carefully load the mags.

My wife has 10k + rounds through the TX22. We picked one up when it was first introduced and she puts at least 325 rounds through it almost every week. It has handled every type of ammo, but seems to really favor the Federal Automatch. I have a TX22 Comp with about 2000 rds through it, runs fantastic. I've not handled the Sig yet but looking forward to it. Good comparison!

I was waiting to find a 322 locally but no luck. Came across the TX22 and was blown away by the price point, but was hesitant since it was a Taurus. Did some research and the TX22 had some solid reviews. Walked into an outdoor shop to browse what was on hand and they had the TX22 on sale. It was a no brained at that point and I ended up getting the last one on hand in store! No optics cut but I can deal with that. Such a fun gun to shoot!
I also ended up ordering more magazines and some +5 extensions directly from Taurus USA. Pretty fast shipping from them as well.

I've owned something over 100 different .22lr semi automatic handguns in the last 10 years or so. As you say reliability is very subjective compared to center fire as are ergonomics. From Voquartsen Scorpion to Keltec P-17 they all have features that make the them the "Best" for some folks. I own both the weapons compared and although they are similar, comparing a striker fire to a hammer fire is super difficult to do. I do have more time and rounds through the Taurus than the Sig. Right now the Taurus TX 22 wins out over the Sig but that could change as time goes on. I would suggest anyone looking to buy one of these weapons for plinking and putting holes in paper to get both and see which one is the most fun and most accurate. The one that works best for you may not be the one for me. Like they say in the commercials, "Your mileage may vary". Thanks for your time and effort to provide a fair and unbiased opinion.

The p322 is a fine firearm. Owning for only a month, I love the optical sights and the overall feel. Magazines deserve careful loading, to lessen feeding issues. No lead buildup issues at all, using copper plated 22lr.

  • @ron8566

I am biased, but I’ll comment anyway. I have a Taurus TX-22 and I absolutely love how it shoots. The ergonomics are great, the sights are very good and if you load the mags properly, it is very reliable. I note that you can buy the +5 mag adapters direct from Taurus, so I’ve converted most of my mags to 21 rounds. My recollection is that extra mags from Taurus are relatively inexpensive, so I ended up buying 15 of them to make my range days painless in terms of reloads. The grip is more of a full grip compared to the Sig., so I think it feels better to me than the Sig. Last, Taurus customer service has been outstanding!

Have both pistols, purchased the TX 22 first and fired over 5k rounds before I got the Sig. I'm very pleased with it. It truly does cycle all 22 lr ammo reliable and loadeding the mags is a breeze. Take the rim lock out of the equation and the Sig mags are still crap. You really have to baby them while loading so you don't get the follower to start nose diving. Past that and my Sig is finicky about what ammo it will reliably cycle and its a 50/50 crap shoot if the I will get a lock back on the last round regardless of ammo. So far I have 3 types of ammo that will give me 4-5 light primer strikes per magazine. And that ammo cycles flawlessly in all my other 22 firearms. Many of my same experiences coming to light now along with other consumers having major issues with barrels leading up. After they get the gun back and Sig states they swapped out the barrel and test fired it with a few different brands of ammo only to have the person fire the gun with less rounds of the same ammo and guess what, yup the barrel leads up again. I was a Sig guy, I edc their center fire pistols. With this shit show they are showing with this firearm and lying to customers I don't think many of us are gonna keep the loyalty with this manufacturer. I also find it odd that none of these popular RUclips creators didn't have any issues upon the release of this pistol. They all sold the Sig's narrative that this is the best most reliable 22lr pistol. 🤔 Sorry, but so far I will have to give that title to the Taurus.

I recently purchased the Taurus TX22 in a green splatter finish. I am VERY happy with this gun. Honestly I bought it because I am a big Palmetto Fan and they had it on sale for $289 and honestly I thought the green splatter finish was cool. Also, I had purchased a Taurus G3 full size 9mm for $269 last year and it had been a very good . I like the PRICE of the TX22, but it has been 100% reliable and as accurate as ....I can shoot. My 3 grown sons also have been impressed by it. I have to say I am a life-long absolute HUGE Sig fan and I own several Sigs and my EDC is a Sig365XL. I also own a 228 (for 30+ years) and a relatively new P320 in .45 ACP. The 45 was to be my carry gun, but the director of the safety team which I am on requested that everyone carry 9mm for certain reasons so I switched to the 365XL for EDC....and I do like it very much. Having said that....I purchased the TX22 recently (mostly due to sale price) and I wanted another 22 pistol...AND I was impressed by the G3 I have owned for about a year. I have fired about 600 rounds through this gun (TX22) and I admit I like it very very much. Okay, I love this gun. I have zero complaints and it is very very accurate. I also recently purchased a Taurus G2c compact 9mm for $219 and this gun is an absolute steal at $219. I now own 3 Taurus guns, and despite their somewhat flawed reputation, I have been impressed by all three. The G3 full size is very comfortable and easy to shoot. I have average to large size hands, but short fingers (insert your own joke here) and I find the G3 very comfortable.
Sorry for the long rant, but basically, I absolutely love the TX22. I have fed it every cheap basic bulk 22LR ammo I have and the gun has functioned flawlessly and very accurately. I own a GSG firefly 22 (which supposedly is a Sig knock off) and it has had some feeding issues with various ammo. Not so for the TX22. I have shot Federal bulk 40Gr, CCI, Browing, Remington Bucket, and Norma tactical through this gun without a single flaw. Okay...one flaw - light hammer strike on ONE round out of the 500+ I have fired. I am very impressed with the accuracy of this gun as well.
Sorry for the long rant, but I am surprising impressed with this gun, and I AM a HUGH Sig fan. I guess now I have to go in search of the P320-22 just so I can compare. Oh the woes of this ever increasingly expensive pursuit. Too bad I'm not a big internet sensation like MrGunsnGear so I could get my shit for free. :-).

I'm getting a TX22. You know why? This is why:
"Thank you for contacting SIG SAUER.
I am sorry you are having trouble with your firearm. To best serve your needs and to obtain the pertinent information in an accurate and timely manner, as well as for additional troubleshooting, we do suggest that you call our Customer Service Department."
I emailed them about a substantial POI shift I was having while my P322 is suppressed (approx 2" right and 3-4" up at 7 yards with an uncomfortable number of wild fliers) on a suppressor that has zero shift of 4 other guns. Sig cares so much about customer service that after laying out the issue plain as day they just said 'call us'. I'm also getting an APX to replace my P320. Sig wants to be classy and be seen as a higher end brand, _higher end brands have better customer service_

Have you noticed that the Stingers' case is about 1/10" longer than standard .22 LR cases? Overall length is the same, but the cases are WAY longer, and some chambers (e.g., target, match, Bentz) are too short to handle them.

First off very good review/comparison, keep up the good work. Purchased one of 322s recently and am enjoying it a lot. Have not had any issues with rim lock so far but its still going through break in and Im usually loading 10 rounds to cut down on “big grin mag dumps”. In case anyone is interested the bbl thread is 3/8’x24, which may be important if you had say an older AWC Archangel can, nudge nudge wink wink. Pulled the rear site and replaced it with a FastFire II as a test bed, works great and it returned pretty much to zero when the factory site was put back on. Can see this one being real good for plinking, camp/ranch carry and steel challenge (is there a “stock” category) along with being an almost perfect intro to shooting type handgun. Last but not least this IS NOT a Mosquito, nope, these work!

I have both I get less gas in the face when running them suppressed with the TX because it only has a side cut for ejection. Unlike the Sig like most pistols has top and side cut for ejections. Also it runs what’re ever I feed it be it 36 grain or 60 grain, I believe since it only has the side cut more gas is trapped and thus runs the slide better where as the Sig lets more gas out thus not allowing me to run the 36 grain ammo unsuppressed. I like the sig bc it hold mire and red dot but I almost always pick up the TX because it’s more reliable. My suppressor is a Hydra SS.

It took me a while to get the P322 here in NJ, but Magblock finally came out with the block to limit to 10rds.
That being said, this is indeed a fantastic firearm. I mostly shoot CCI ammo, but will also shoot Federal bulk-pack as well. The Federal will fail-to-extract, or light-primer-strike once in a while. Typical for bulk-pack "dirty" ammo. I actually sold my G44 because of all the issues I had with it.

It’s also a fantastic suppressor host to my Dead Air Mask 2. The trigger is great, no complaints and 16 rds is plenty( extensions are available though). It’s half the price of Sig 322! I was careful how I loaded the mag making sure the rounds weren't tipped improperly. When I switch to CCI mini mag copper jacketed it worked fine, 100 straight rounds without one incident. Unfortunately, the copper jacketed rounds are almost twice the cost. If I hadn't already bought a holosun red dot for the sig I would probably exchange it for the TX 22. Maybe I'll keep trying different ammo until I find one that works well with it.

The Taurus keeps breaking down, the roll pins keep trying to walk out, jams, the only ones that seem to run and keep running is the glock 44. Buck marks are a 50/50 proposition, they may or may not work reliably. One thing about steel challenge is, if your gun has a weakness, steel challenge will bring it out. We haven't seen the sig yet. Nothing can beat Ruger Mark series pistols! They are awesome!

      I agree with you, and I own a Ruger sr22 that’s also a very reliable 22 pistol.

Quality on the Taurus’s built in America 🇺🇸, not so much on the others built abroad

I've been trying to find a P322 for months, and I'm going to stay persistent. The TX22 seems like a viable option, but I still think I'll keep looking for a P322 to show up locally. Thanks for the info!! ~Frank

I have a Taurus TX22 competition. The perfect beginner 22lr handgun since the Red dot does not reciprocate and easier to track. Plus suppressed is so quiet.

Thanks for sharing, I just purchased my TX22 and have not shot it yet looking forward to putting some different brands through it to see how they perform.

I purchased my TX22 before the Sig came out, it's been a fun little gun! I might try the Sig but I'm in no hurry...

I've had the Taurus tx22 for a long long time and I am pleased with the pistol. Taurus has a factory in Georgia and that is my home state and anything that has come out of that Georgia Factory has been good. I am a member of a shooting club and I have seen so so many people bring in brand new Taurus firearms made in Georgia and they are very very impressed also. I have a Taurus 1911 45 that I've had for like 18 years and that gun has never given me any problems. Another good thing about the Taurus tx22 is the magazines are less expensive.

Have shot the P322 and a Ruger 22/45 lite. I like the lower price P322 a little better than the 22/45 until the Voquartsen parts are added. The upgraded Ruger 22/45 with Voquartsen accurizing kit makes the 22/45 the better pistol but that ends up being twice the price of the P322.

Some owners have complained that their Sig's barrel leads up after 400rds or so, even shooting plated, or washed bullets. It's not everyone complaining, but it would be something to monitor. Refined... Is a good description of the Sig. I'd pick the Sig over the Taurus, because it is more refined. If there was a problem with the barrel, Sig would fix it no problem. I guess the TX22 would be ok... After all, I do have an early model G44. It runs as flawlessly as a 22lr can, but it is still far from perfection it was claimed to be. Many people say the Taurus is the best. I held one, played with it, and wasn't overly impressed. The Sig was different, I wanted to buy it, but the Walther WMP came home with me instead that day. That, is a well refined 22WMR pistol... I think I made the better choice.

We got a Taurus tx22 competition & holosun 507c ACSS for my wife and our boys to learn red dot pistol on. Had a few failures early on. Maybe 1 per magazine. After 1000 rounds though and a good clean/lube it has broken in nicely. My family really enjoys it. That said I will definitely add the sig soon. Thanks for all the hard work mike!

Have the tx 22. Over 500 rounds, no failures - Both suppressed/un suppressed
