Yeah it’s intentional compromises that didn’t have to be there (except ibis maybe) just to divide it from the r6 and make the r6 look more “professional” than the r8

I'm in the market and thinking the same, I was looking at the R6 Mark ii, more research needed but this could be the winner.

You dont care about video? So get a 2nd R or RP… especially the RP is great i used it for over 2 years before i downgraded to APS-C (for video and wildlife)

@@harrison00xXx meh the autofocus is way worse and the dynamic range and iso performance of the r8 would blow the rp out of the water.
IBIS is 20 year old technology, and one of the biggest improvements to modern mirrorless cameras. Look at what OM System can accomplish with it. No way I'd go without it unless you only shoot from a tripod.
IBIS on the R5 handheld is not as great as its made out to be, as an editor I hate getting handheld footage (when its not motivated), gimbal and tripod footage is just better for professional work, so IBIS doesnt really count 🤷🏽♂️ but the R5 footage looks better regardless.. even the autofocus can sell you down the river at a crucial moment so you still go manual focus in a clutch moment, like a wedding kiss, had the R5 catch eye focus on the guests sitting in the church front row watching the kiss, because the bride and groom were wide profile 😂😂😂 I was like WTF R5!!! how you gona sell me out like that man?? Bra I watched the focus shift to random people at the main moment, don't put all your trust in it, is all im saying.
Ibis is a 20 year technology , held back by camera giants , so that they can milk cash out in the name of flagship feature. Main while Iphones here are doing 10x better job while as doing its job as phone ! 😂 , in fact almost all of these professional features such as bigger battery , joystick control and Ibis are long due from being the basic features of a camera in 2024!

Though the single card slot isn't really a big deal. I've shot 18 years as a pro and had some of Canon's best 1D cams that were the first with dual card slots... never used them and I shot events that had more on the line than weddings.
Now with touch/drag AF on the new Canon R cams, you can move the AF point around with your thumb on the lcd screen while looking through the EVF and it's actually faster than the joystick. I have the R6 II and rarely use the joystick anymore because of this.
Exactly, 😂 might ad well use the screen @@77dris single card slot? How often do pros with high end card expierence card malfunctions? Ive never had a dual card slot and have never had a card corrupt or be unrecoverable.
I have the R6mii now and ill just be using it to store an extra SD card 😅
Reminds me of what Fuji has done with the X-S10 as a scale down of the X-T4. Just that the X-S10 also has IBIS.
I think it's great that they make scale down versions that don't make too many compromises but cost a lot less. Great for beginners or people who don't have a months salary to spend on their camera 😅
R8 with IBIS is same with R6ii lol
No Ibis is in certain cases a feature for a camera. Is a moving part that doesn't break in extreme environments and usage.

But None of Canon's DSLR cameras have In body Image Stabilization (IBIS) except The Canon EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS R3. So for someone who is upgrading from a 5d mark3 its ok
I wanted to buy R8, but there is no make sense without IBIS, I do not care abt other things, but IBIS is a game changer these days, Canon screw this up completely

@@Sepia1989Stabilization is needed at longer focal lengths and it's necessary for video that you're not stabilizing with a gimbal, but you can spend more to get lenses with image stabilization built in.
Hopefully with me replying a year later, you can conceptualize how money works and how you get more when you pay more. Do you pay for things?

I lowkey love my R8, I do 35mm mainly so I use my R8 to take composite photos.
Bought the R50 last year. Only to decide to buy the R8 this year. 😂 Next year probably will have to buy the R5 M2.
I never truly understood the IBIS when lenses have IS now days and a basic fumble is way cheaper than paying for the next model up with IBIS. I have a steady hand with video and my lens picks up the rest of the minor movements and handles it.
Its nice to have with really long lenses as you dont need as fast shutter speeds, so nature/wildlife photography its very useful.
The camera is amazing. Buy it!
Single SD Card, extra risk if used professionally especially for 1-time events that you cannot repeat... So mainly, this can be used casually or on semi-professional level only (events or shoots that can be repeated in an unforeseen scenario, like a corrupted SD).
Or you shoot tethered to an iPad or other device using tether software that can automatically save the images to both the memory card in the camera AND the tablet.
@@AStageForTheKingdom tried that, severely depletes the battery faster, and the buffer also slows down as it needs to process the transfer as well as the new images being taken
I love this type of Cameras and love to be a photographer and im my opinion phones are just killing Real Photogaphers.
I dare your phone to create a properly lighted photo (key light, backlight) without ambient light and just ocf.

Start with the Canon M50 mark ii, for around $450. You want to upgrade from there? The go straight to the R5, imo. Its what I did, and I dont look back. And the m50's serve as my b amd c cams. Still great little guys, eapecially paired with speed boosters 😂👌

R7 is crop sensor, R8 is full frame. Which to pick depends what type of photograph you you want to take.

No comparison of crop sensor with full frame
R8 will do better with lower lighting albeit the R7 comes with 32MP. The recommended camera for wildlife photography out of these two is the R8 imo the sensor is just too good. Get yourself a good lens to pair with the body and youll have a beast of a kit.

Frickin Canon. I got the r6 mark ii and than they release this which is like almost the same for half the price. I hope they do some sort of firmware or something to make it seem a little bit more of a difference between the two besides the IBIS and a few video features…

IBIS. Many lenses come with image stabilization. IBIS adds onto this by providing image stabilization for lenses that do not have it or in tandem with lenses that do. This feature is more advantageous for video where every tiny movement of the camera is seen. Bottom line, it's just another layer of image stabilization.
IBIS didn't exist a few years ago. If it's a deal breaker, then how we're uou able to take a photograph 3 years ago? Good lord....

Catch is that half of the shutter assembly is missing 💀
It distorts your out of focus areas and increases rolling shutter. Cool video camera but isn't a budget full frame camera's entire gimmick is bringing you full frame IMAGES at the lowest cost possible? RP still seems smart with both its price and it having a full shutter assembly despite the extremely old sensor.
The mechanical shutter is missing also in RP. Canon R has it

My canon eos r doesn’t have ibis it’s basically for video cuz when you move the sensor is essentially moving to to compensate for your shakey hands it’s great for handheld video work but doesn’t do much for photography
Of course ibis helps for photography also. Means you can shoot at a much slower shutter speed hand held then you can just with the lens IS.

R7 --> APS-C
R8 --> Full Frame
If you want to take pictures of sport/wildlife go with the R7. If you simply want to take pictures of landscape take the R8. And if you want to take very, very good videos take the R8 because the bigger sensor has got a better resolution and low-light capacities.

@@Jaylikescar You´re welcome. If you value ergonomic forget the Sony. They were made for super small hands. Canon is their way, way better. If you were a tech-nerd and wanted to have the absolut best sensor then go with the Sony.

@@alliswell1121if you're low on budget then take the 90D. If you have enough money take immediately the R8! Much, much, a LOT better. It's smaller, lighter and more capable than the 90D.
