FIXES AND UPDATES: If you're doing a Quest avatar, then when you're installing Unity for the first time make sure to install the Android components (should pop up as an option that you can check when installing). If the "Extract Textures" option is grayed out for you, then make sure that you changed the Path Mode to COPY when exporting from Blender. Also if you're on Quest: If your eyes/any other parts of the avatar look messed up (pointy, deformed, larger than it should be) this is due to the QUEST shaders (as demonstrated this happens to the eye brow, eyeliner, and eyeline, which is why we apply those directly to the skin texture). To fix this for the eyes, you need to adjust the mesh in blender. I have a short video demonstrating how to do this in my Discord > avatar help channel > pinned messages. I CAN'T MERGE THEM WITH ATLAS always when i do this the texures are getting like you said crazy comined but then when i export out blender in unity it stays and i cant use it so i didnt merg them together and export it with more then 4 layers but now i cant use them or extrakt them so how i can fix this merg problem do i need to remake the texures in vroid and recreate all ?
@@n1co_gg check the pinned message in the last video. You need to unpack the files in blender before creating the atlas OR use an older version of the vrm add on to import the avatar (an update broke it)
A single, EMPTY unity project folder is ~2GB in size. I constantly have to delete older project files for new ones. Probably why some okay-ish computers can't run it.

Big tip for other peoples that I hope some will find and be able to use. If using the Poiyomi Shader and you have a few invisible textures only from one side, remember to go into the shader settings and set "Cull" to "Off" in "Rendering". This is the option that will hide the back of some textures, but you need this back for some avatars.
I’m having a problem when uploading to vrchat. On the auto fix screen, I’m getting an error that says “spine hierarchy missing elements, please map: chest.” So far, I’ve remade my avatar twice and still it doesn’t work. Do you have any suggestions for this, because I really don’t want to lose my work. It won’t let me auto fix it and only gives me the option to “select”. EDIT: I fixed the issue. You have to go into the same menu where you mapped the jaw bone and instead find the chest (or missing element). Then, you have to click on it and find the missing bone.
Yeah, I had this problem, In blender go to edit mode and click the bones, make sure the 'Neck' bone has its parent set to 'Upper Chest', the 'Upper Chest' bone has its parent set to 'Chest', the 'Chest' bone has its parent set to 'Spine' and the 'Spine' has its parent set to 'Hips'
I was just having the same issue but then I read you fixed it! It's funny how this one little mess up and butcher this whole process. I'm just saying thank you because I would have NEVER figured out this was the problem.
I highly recommend dropping by a doppelganger world when testing avatars. It just lets you get a good look from an outside perspective to check all the nooks and crannies you might miss in a mirror :)

I'm terrified what people might do with the ability to upload two versions of an avatar that show up differently on different platforms, especially since many of those users have no way of seeing how their avatar appears on another platform.
Yeah I've thought about maybe an avatar that tells you what platform you're on. And maybe it roasts you on quest. Or in a world with 1 pc user not including yourself, you can make them go insane. Like it's a dog and it has fake eyebrows on PC but not quest. Don't even say a word. It will happen naturally if everyone has the avatar.
I've actually seen some avatars that are Quest avatars where their textures aren't quite showing up right and been told my textures aren't loading by Quest players. It's kinda funny but I do hope they fix it one day.
Doesn’t work in blender you combine the materials and becomes one mash and there’s no way to fix that tbh at least the tutorial was easy to follow but again doesn’t work
I find that holding down Alt changes the mouse cursor to an eye and allows you to move around your viewpoint. Also holding down Alt and right click-drag allows for a more fine "dolly" move in when compared to the wheel-move.
For some reason when I save an ATLAS it decides the textures need to be randomly placed all over. First time I tried she had her underwear texture duplicated on her face. Next time her hair was wrapped around her arms. Third time her eye texture ended up on her heels. But it seems I need the Atlas texture for unity to recognize it. I'm on the verge of just giving up.
im real fucking pissed cuz i ended up doing all these steps just as you did but i only made 1 thing for all the textures and shit so now im stuck with my whole avatar just being the texture for my hair and it autosaved in my blender so i have to do everything all over again
There's a fix for this in the pinned comments. An update to the VRM add-on broke it. You either have to use thr older version or unpack the files before atlasing. If your avatar textures turn to one in blender, it'll be like that in unity.
FYI, if you didn't notice, the outlines aren't there anymore for his avatar. You have to add them back with the shaders if it's supported (poyomi's shader supports it)
@@Hunter248GM When you go to select the shader, you would pick Poiyomi Outline instead of Toon. There will be a menu option in that window now for Outline that you can tweak how you want. You need Poiyomi version 8.0 at the time of this comment for this.

I’ve been working on this for the past week, even fixed the ‘grayed out texture’ button. But when I click it and make a folder for it, it does absolutely nothing. Avatar is still gray. I don’t think I missed any steps as I’ve watched all three parts more time then I can count. Anybody know a way to fix it?

Click on the Body in the Scene, on the right side "Add Component" search for VRC Avatar Descriptor. If you followed the tutorial to a tee it should show up as an addable component, did you log into the VRChat SDK before you tried to add the component or after? (You should always log into the SDK after adding every Asset "as the first thing"). Do you have the latest SDK downloaded, everytime VRChat updates the SDK you need to redownload it so you get the newest version. Also check the console for errors to see what the problem is.

First, you probably didn't export your textures from blender on "Copy" like they said Second, you have to switch to the android sdk if you wanna upload from Oculus Third, then go do that, not complain because you can't follow instructions

I figured out why the eyebrows look weird under the Vrchat mobile toon lit shaders @ 5:13. In blender, if you look at the mesh of the eyebrows, you'll see that there are several polygons that are completely transparent. The toon shaders in Unity ignores that and colors in the rest of the polygons. *A* way to fix it (I don't know of a *fast* way) is to edit the mesh to fit the textures. -Unfortunately, you'll have to edit the mesh *several different times*, once with every shape key (at least that's how I figured out to do it). I tried using "propogate to shapes", but that seems to break the shape keys on the eyebrows. Has anybody figured that part out?- EDIT: Okay, so to save hours of your time, don't move the vertices around. This only affects one shape key. Instead, trace around the textures using the knife tool, then delete the transparent faces on the outside. This affects every shape key.

For the people still having issues extracting the textures, I changed My Blender version to 2.9.0 and it worked! Now I'm only having issues with the SDK, it says "this avatar has mipmapped textures without 'Streaming Mip Map' enabled" now, whenever I enable it, the SDK builder screen goes blanc, I've read that it has to do with the Avatar missing and Animator, but I've already fixed that, thats the very last thing for me :'(
Ive don but I dont have the left eye/ right eye option, just the ones you dont use. I tried those though but the eyeballs dont react well to using them (eyes completely inside out and de synced). Any advise?

i followed all the steps to the T. but for some reason ive found some differences with my sdk, and when i try to open up the vrc sdk console the drop down menu only shows the option to reload sdk. no matter how many times i click reload nothing changes. ive also checked if the unity console shows any errors and it doesnt so i really dont know whats up but i cant upoad avatars because of this issue

So i noticed a issue with my avatars, and was wondering if you know what may cause it. i have tried both Blender, and VRM importer, and both look to be the same issue. the eyes on the avatar looks off to the corners when looking at a mirror, or camera, and i think also the layer but not fully sure on that (mixed answers from users,) Any idea what may cause this?
When I was making an avatar, underneath some of clothing was transparent instead of having the texture it does in VRoid. To fix this on PC go to your material shader and down to Render Options. Make sure Cull is set to "Off" instead of "Back". I couldn't find a solution to this using the mobile shaders.
Hey so to follow up on this for any beginners working for mobile quest avatars: if you go into edit mode in blender and select all the faces for what you want to see the backside of, you can duplicate those faces and then flip them. This will increase your poly count so only use it where you really want it visible, but it's an alternative since turning off culling isn't an option yet.
I should have looked at the comments before sending the same tip. But I'm gonna like for more visibility since I've also found this fix really useful for loose clothings and hair which needs the back texture.
3:48 Im having issues here, in your other video when i saved to the Atlas you mention how it looks there wont be how it looks in Unity, but when i make the textures folder it looks exactly how it did after saving everything to the atlas, to describe it to you the entire model stays gray but only the jacket the model has gets color and texture
I believe there's a fix for this in the pinned comment of the last video. When I say it'll look better, you gotta look at the video to see what I mean. Obviously if in blender the entire model turns gray, something wrong happened.
I found that using vrm add-on version 2.1.11 works. The newer version gives me the gray/white model as well. took me a whole day to troubleshoot this. Cheers!
0k so now I fixed that, but now when I select auto detect for the LipSync, it just detects 3 things, the rest don't even exist when I try to search them :(
I am experiancing a small issue, at 7:05 The "Add component" button. The option to pick VRC Avatar Discriptor is not showing up for me. I've been trying to fix it I even tried to redownload unity. I've tried other things but, I can't figure this out. If theres anyway to help I would greatly appreciate it!
problem my SDK just says reload SDK when i click it. attempting to reload it doesn't work and displays this error: "'Assets/VRCSDK/Plugins//VRCSDK3-Editor.dll' does not exist UnityEngine.StackTraceUtility:ExtractStackTrace () VRC.SDKBase.Editor.VRC_SdkBuilder:ReloadSDK ()" edit: I've restarted my computer and now it won't even display the SDK menu at the top.

I mean, the worst I've seen was on quest, someone looked like a furry, but for PC users they were a creepily realistic version of a minecraft villager

Didn't give up.. went and learned how to mark lines, unwrap and texture paint it myself so I don't need atlas.

So far everything has been great but when I try to add the avatar descriptor it just doesn't show up and I have no idea what the hell I am doing please help I have tried everything. I cannot find a solution.
For the people still having issues extracting the textures, I changed My Blender version to 2.9.0 and it worked! Now I'm only having issues with the SDK, it says "this avatar has mipmapped textures without 'Streaming Mip Map' enabled" now, whenever I enable it, the SDK builder screen goes blanc, I've read that it has to do with the Avatar missing and Animator, but I've already fixed that, thats the very last thing for me :'(
i heard that sdk3 is no longer support in2023, u might want to check creator companion on youtube, i dont know if this help but wish u luck :

Ive don but I dont have the left eye/ right eye option, just the ones you dont use. I tried those though but the eyeballs dont react well to using them (eyes completely inside out and de synced). Any advise?
help my avi came out green i think its because of a step in the last video where it was told that if the avatar looks weird it would fix - it turned green there and now it is on unity bruh
i followed all the steps to the T. but for some reason ive found some differences with my sdk, and when i try to open up the vrc sdk console the drop down menu only shows the option to reload sdk. no matter how many times i click reload nothing changes. ive also checked if the unity console shows any errors and it doesnt so i really dont know whats up but i cant upoad avatars because of this issue

vrcSDK doesn't work correctly for me, and I have been at this for 5 hours
hi Panda. So i noticed a issue with my avatars, and was wondering if you know what may cause it. i have tried both Blender, and VRM importer, and both look to be the same issue. the eyes on the avatar looks off to the corners when looking at a mirror, or camera, and i think also the layer but not fully sure on that (mixed answers from users,) Any idea what may cause this?

When I was making an avatar, underneath some of clothing was transparent instead of having the texture it does in VRoid. To fix this on PC go to your material shader and down to Render Options. Make sure Cull is set to "Off" instead of "Back". I couldn't find a solution to this using the mobile shaders.

Hey so to follow up on this for any beginners working for mobile quest avatars: if you go into edit mode in blender and select all the faces for what you want to see the backside of, you can duplicate those faces and then flip them. This will increase your poly count so only use it where you really want it visible, but it's an alternative since turning off culling isn't an option yet.
I should have looked at the comments before sending the same tip. But I'm gonna like for more visibility since I've also found this fix really useful for loose clothings and hair which needs the back texture.
3:48 Im having issues here, in your other video when i saved to the Atlas you mention how it looks there wont be how it looks in Unity, but when i make the textures folder it looks exactly how it did after saving everything to the atlas, to describe it to you the entire model stays gray but only the jacket the model has gets color and texture
I believe there's a fix for this in the pinned comment of the last video. When I say it'll look better, you gotta look at the video to see what I mean. Obviously if in blender the entire model turns gray, something wrong happened.
I found that using vrm add-on version 2.1.11 works. The newer version gives me the gray/white model as well. took me a whole day to troubleshoot this. Cheers!

Try restarting in blender. Might just be a bug

I followed every step until this point, but at the end my avatar is all grey :(
0k so now I fixed that, but now when I select auto detect for the LipSync, it just detects 3 things, the rest don't even exist when I try to search them :(

I am experiancing a small issue, at 7:05 The "Add component" button. The option to pick VRC Avatar Discriptor is not showing up for me. I've been trying to fix it I even tried to redownload unity. I've tried other things but, I can't figure this out. If theres anyway to help I would greatly appreciate it!

If I use quest 2 on vr chat through pc do I have to make the avatar have less polygons still?
if you are using link then go off the PC count, however standalone quest is another story
