Something very important for those of you importing VRoid Models! You may wanna go into your hierarchy and delete a lot of the phys bones that are provided if you want your avatar to be somewhat optimized. A lot of them are useless, so I recommend going in and seeing which ones you actually can use/want before uploading, otherwise you’ll encounter a lot of clipping and be unoptimized for basically no reason. Be sure that after deleting from the secondary/body, you right click again and apply to prefab ‘avatarName”. I believe this is only “required” on the secondary, but check your VRChat SDK, as this could be a bug
VRoid models just have wacky bone parenting. If you want to properly optimize your PhysBone layout, duplicate the head bone(Hair Root), parent it to the head, and then parent all the hair bones to this new(Hair Root) bone.
Very well explained with great visual guidance. Starting from an FBX instead of an already made Unity package is absolutely the way to go. This video is actually really well done. ❤
I've been so intimidated by avatar creation for so long, but this explanation was so clear and concise! I have so many ideas for unique and creative avatars, but I'm going to start with a VRoid model to get the basics under my belt. That's going to be so much easier with this tutorial! I love all your uploads, and I'm looking forward to the tips in the next video, especially VRoid optimization!
Exactly the kind of comment I was hoping to see! 🥲 Best of luck, and hope you’ll share your work in the Discord or join our events to say hi! Thanks for watching!
@@TheVirtualRealityShow I've been to a few events, and I'm hoping to get more involved in this community in the future! You've got a great group of people helping you out, Phia, and you've created one of the most welcoming environments in the whole VR scene!
Don't need this for myself as I make my own avatars from near scratch now, but this is an excellent resource for my friends that don't know what they are doing. Thank you.
This is a fantastic guide! You did a great job on making it easy to follow without missing parts or skipping over things other than the obviously more advanced parts that most players won't even need to worry about. 100% recommend this guide for anybody starting out on their avatar journey.
Definitely helpful, so much information in one place. I do VRM models myself and use Blender and Unity a lot to make them more spicy than "just" a Vroid, but I always struggled when it was time to move everything to VRChat. Great work Phia like always ^^
WOW! It took me months to figure out the basics of animation and you covered a TON in just a few minutes, wish I'd had a video like this a few yrs ago :D
Its funny becouse 2 years ago or so i learned FROM her earlyer videos :p Was nice to be able to recomend phia again when asked about avis. Those old ones where outdated.
This was very approachable, thank you! As a gamedev, and not a technical artist...I find modeling, rigging, and animation very intimidating. This helped make it more approachable and gives me some idea of what to look for in VRChat.
THIS IS SO NICE?? I'm coming back to making Vroids after going on break and this was an amazing refresher! So glad we don't have to put it through Blender anymore
Wish I had this video a year ago I’ve been making my own FBX for a year and even a few things you covered I didn’t know. This video is definitely going to be shared to my friends.
hehe thanks for this I never posted hut I been a huge fan for a year ish? I started vr because of your videos! the helps a bunch because a year in on vrchat and i’m still not very good at uploading avatars. thank you so much!
One thing about the FX layer. Instead of turning WD ON i suggest using a default animation above the other layers to "reset" you expressions (VRC also recommends this). Though I do understand that this tutorial is more aimed at the beginners and this setup would take more time/knowledge. For the rest its an excellent tutorial for the basics of uploading an avatar. Lets just hope unity 2022 does not put all the effort to waste.
thank you for such an amazing guide, this hopefully clears out all the most frequent asked questions about Avatars. also i love that you are also calling them Blendshapes more often than shapekeys, just like i do :D
I tryed to make my own avis a cople of years ago but gave up but now I can try to make it on new again with your help. Thank you so mutch and also I love your content ❤
I am planning on getting my start into VR with the Quest 3 when it releases! I hope you can make a nice simple guide on how to get setup when it comes out :)
Does anyone know what to do now that the VRM to VRChat converter on Booth no longer works? It just says to download the VCC version instead but I can't find that anywhere :(
well, first of, thank you for the detailed tutorial. its amazing, but i have a quick question. in the physbone part, when i got to that part, i couldnt find the VRC physbone thingy. i looked through the whole video and didnt see any instructions on how to get it. am i missing something or what? and is the avatar SDK needed? if it is, how do i use or upload it?
vroid avatar tourtorals on 2024 uploadeing and everything changed for blender 4.0 you should make a video im freaking out because im been doing this all day learning and got no were even with a book about blender
Your guide is so clear and makes it so easy, but I still have problems. When I import VRM converter package, the VRM0 menu doesn't appear on the toolbar so I can't continue...
oh I just solved, I migrated my project on another version of unity, always suggested by CreatorCompanion, reimported the Converter package and it worked ^^ (the working version for me was 2022.3.6f1
i do appreciate you for uploading this, but i found this difficult to watch, there wasnt much visual guide, and it was going very fast, i hope you can upload a more detailed and updated guide, ive been really struggling how to upload my vroid avatar and its been very discouraging💔💔, i honestly wouldnt mind watching a super long video, and even with extra help with what could go wrong, its better for me to watch a straightforward detailed step by step visual video, i hope you read this😞
I'm wanting to get into VR at some point but I don't know what to start with.. I'll have to save up for a gaming laptop, the VR headset, monitor, and find a cheap yet decent internet service in my local area.
This is a well made tutorial! However, due to Unity changing their business model, I have concerns about using Unity. This is probably a long shot, but are there alternate ways to create and upload avatars without touching Unity?
I just cant get this to work for my vroid model i just need to make it quest compatible and all the shaders for vrchat screw up the eyes i just dont understand
for vroid you can't use any transparent layers, so for a face, you need to move most features onto the face Skin and delete the ones in eyelashes etc from the editor. Or if it's the irises you mean, those need editing too to have a white background instead of transparent. I watched ruclips.net/video/c2-o4l6eagQ/видео.html and one by virtual panda about it, I can't remember which one showed the editing in detail as it's been a while but I got quest ones working when I followed them!
I paid for the Patreon to make it easy and I tried loading the models up how you say and keep getting "It seems to be an instruction-following model with template "Alpaca". In the chat tab, instruct or chat-instruct modes should be used."
LITTLE DID I KNOW in blender, if i make the avatar in Blender, I hae to add the VRM rig under add and armeture, and it will atomatically have the humanoid bones set up in blender. (NOT IN UNITY THO IT WILL NOT MAKE IT TO WHERE YOU DON"T HAVE TO SET IT UP!)
I wonder what will happen to vrchat and its community now that, ONCE AGAIN, something dumb happens around it (the engine this time, it's not even their fault) Will we see a rise in ChilloutVR and NeosVR?

I’m planning to go over optimization tips in the next vid, so I’ll refresh on VRoid specific stuff like this to make more notes 😆 thank you!

Great tutorial Phia! You just simplified a ton of info that would otherwise taken many people months to figure out!
Wake up babe🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥 phia has uploaded‼️‼️‼️
WOW! It took me months to figure out the basics of animation and you covered a TON in just a few minutes, wish I'd had a video like this a few yrs ago :D
Me too!! Hopefully this helps many people save that exact time and stress!🤞 thank you for the support
I swear this is the first tutorial that actaully covers this part without getting lost in the weeds

You did an excellent job on this! 💙
Thank you Ry!!✨
THANK YOU , iv been looking for a vroid/unity tut that dosent have a bunch of stuff to do
finally found a simple, strait to the point tut
The physics and motion capture is so incredible
THIS IS SO NICE?? I'm coming back to making Vroids after going on break and this was an amazing refresher! So glad we don't have to put it through Blender anymore
I was just struggling with my first upload when I got the notification for this video, exactly what I needed! thank u based phia 🙌
Absolutely amazing, you really just crammed a years worth of knowledge into one video. Love seeing your improvements from where you first started!
Wish I had this video a year ago I’ve been making my own FBX for a year and even a few things you covered I didn’t know. This video is definitely going to be shared to my friends.
My brain couldn't handel this much informetion at once 😭😭
This would have helped a ton when I was trying to make my Avatar. You did literally the best job
hehe thanks for this I never posted hut I been a huge fan for a year ish? I started vr because of your videos! the helps a bunch because a year in on vrchat and i’m still not very good at uploading avatars. thank you so much!
I remember having to learn this with several different videos before and it took me so long to upload the dang thing to Vrchat 💀😭
Yes, same! That's why I wanted to make this! ^o^
Great comprehensive vid! plus its up to date with all the massive changes from the past couple of months

9:05 That’s some great advice in general.
Doing this for a homeschooling course, thank you so much for making it easy to follow ^-^ (I can finally make custom avis for me and my gf >:3)
I tryed to make my own avis a cople of years ago but gave up but now I can try to make it on new again with your help. Thank you so mutch and also I love your content ❤

Omg I was just thinking about starting to make avatars and this will definitely help me!
hmm maybe I should finally try to upload my own avatar hmm, these steps make it seem a lot easier then I felt it would.
thank you, this video is very helpful! during it i also got an idea for an avatar, maybe ill try to learn the skills needed to make one too
Great tutorial for beginners Phia!
Been playing with my stream account, didn't' know I had to merge it into a VRChat account so thanks for telling me about it
Great info! Love that I'm still learning stuff to this day, didn't know you could just use online generators to make a normal.
This was so insightful. I think it's time to upgrade my Unity. Please do more videos about FX layers. They look really fun!
i have been trying for months trying to find how to do such thingss that is so help full thank you
Best video on the topic!
Very good explaination on how to do this! thanks
my mind has been refreshed
Thanks so so much for this video Phia!
Just in time for me to start thinking about making a new model
Can’t wait to see what you put together!!! :)
thank you for saving me some time by telling me that i need a real account rather than steam.
You should do one for worlds because there is only a couple of tutorials out there for it
thanks but im stuck on physbones, my unity dnt have the VRC physics :(
I wish i had this video like 2 years ago.
bruh why is this so complicated
Idk bro I’m just tryna make an avatar for myself💀
I’m a unreal engine game dev so it wasn’t that hard for me😂 (ask if you have questions)
Because we’re not buying an an add on we are physically “adding it on” ourselves
Because Unity hates its devs
@@NumbScxllVRwhat’s your Discord so I can add you for questions
Dude that was easy to figure out 😅
Does anyone know what to do now that the VRM to VRChat converter on Booth no longer works? It just says to download the VCC version instead but I can't find that anywhere :(
Damn, right after I finished making mine, lol
The next video will still be full of goodies for taking things to the next level 😁
well, first of, thank you for the detailed tutorial. its amazing, but i have a quick question. in the physbone part, when i got to that part, i couldnt find the VRC physbone thingy. i looked through the whole video and didnt see any instructions on how to get it. am i missing something or what? and is the avatar SDK needed? if it is, how do i use or upload it?
I FINALLY DID IT THIS IS SOO COOL
Making avatars is the most mind numbing thing ever
The vrm thing did not show up when I imported it to unity
Thank you so much for this video!
So for some reason the upload button or anything to do with the editor isn’t even there and I have opened the project through the editor
also is there atchuly going to be a video explaining the whole prosses of converting and optimizing vroid models?
Another good video idea could be to cover some of the errors in unity and how to solve them
How do I make an avatar when I logged in with meta
I'm game have to watch this like 20 times and make my recemended VR chat avatar vids
This is so helpful!
vroid avatar tourtorals on 2024 uploadeing and everything changed for blender 4.0 you should make a video im freaking out because im been doing this all day learning and got no were even with a book about blender
where can i find that vrm converter? it's not in booth
Wait I have to create the model 3d? That’s hard so hard
Can you create a tutorial mainly about how to create control on pet ears or tails please?
Your guide is so clear and makes it so easy, but I still have problems.
When I import VRM converter package, the VRM0 menu doesn't appear on the toolbar so I can't continue...
oh I just solved, I migrated my project on another version of unity, always suggested by CreatorCompanion, reimported the Converter package and it worked ^^

This is a well made tutorial! However, due to Unity changing their business model, I have concerns about using Unity. This is probably a long shot, but are there alternate ways to create and upload avatars without touching Unity?
Why does vrchat and unity have to make porting a literal avatar maker (vroid studio) so fucking difficult to port over
To note recently. Poi toon is available as a vcc dependency, so feel free to add it that way to be able to update and install easily
Same goes for liltoon
I just cant get this to work for my vroid model i just need to make it quest compatible and all the shaders for vrchat screw up the eyes i just dont understand

When setting to Humanloid the Apply doesn't work.. I'm losing hope its been 2day's looking for issue-
I paid for the Patreon to make it easy and I tried loading the models up how you say and keep getting "It seems to be an instruction-following model with template "Alpaca". In the chat tab, instruct or chat-instruct modes should be used."
The booth VRM Convert link doesn't work for me.
I'm stuck so early on. I'm not sure where to find the Model FBX that you mentioned to drop it into the project.
I can't get it to upload. I hit the build button and it just says building avatar and just sits there. No errors nothing just sits and does nothing
omg.TYSM
5:16 hey isn't that NAKU? :D
Phia, can I translate your guide into Russian and reupload it? This guide is amazing! I hope it will help a lot of people!

How did you make the singular material/texture ball for the Quest avatar?
How do I get it into a fbx? I've been trying and rewatching the video incase I missed it but I really can't figure it out
help please!
Im having trouble. It says i have VRChat SDK and VRM, but i can't find them. Does anyone know what the problem is?
wow
Can i get how to make the avatar for beginner? I never touch blender and unity
when i drag the vrm convertor in the tab on the top never shows up no matter what i do
I wonder what will happen to vrchat and its community now that, ONCE AGAIN, something dumb happens around it (the engine this time, it's not even their fault)
Will we see a rise in ChilloutVR and NeosVR?
Where can I find all of the textures? One thing I’m kinda confused about 😅
with vtuber models in vrchat how can you give it toggles and gogoloco?
Cool and all, but..
What if we have a pmx that we converted to a .fbx file? Would this complicate things alot or no?
When i use vrcc i had untiy re installed but it said it could not find it and i don't know why
:) early (14 sec ago)
What do I do if the avatar is pink when I upload it but I’ve already uploaded poiyomi?
