@@queenslandballistics2987 I'm not sure everybody's to their own I still need to take it off my car it's at the workshop getting the motor built you should look at my channel🙂
Hey Ross, I'm just about to embark on a very similar build to the one you are reviewing in this video. I just sold my Vixen Red 2004 BA XT (base model N/A barra with the BTR 4 speed and 3.27:1 rear gears), that I had owned for 5 years. She was slammed on a sweet set of 18's, darkest tint, exhaust dumped at diff, and huge I.C.E. setup i pieced together and installed myself. I put a BF XR6 rear end in to get that 3.45:1 rear gearing, and it actually made my lighter XT quicker than the N/A XR6 Falcons and looked better than most XR's. But 2 low speed side impact accidents in the passenger side, and a hail storm put my BA plans into the scrap bin... And then the final nail in its coffin was the metallic blue 06 model BF XT mk2 i picked up for $1K. Even has dual zone and premium audio package, dual fuel, and as icing on the cake, its a ZF6 auto equipped car. Ive got a GT35 copy with journal bearing and a genuine Garrett GT3582R from a BA turbo, BA XR6T turbski manifold, aftermarket intercooler with 4in alloy piping, 4in exhaust, PWR trans cooler, Aeromotive 340Lph fuel pump, 4 bar FPR and Bosch 550cc squirters, remote Throttle body setup, FG turbo valve springs, Greddy BOV, Earles braided oil filter/feed, multiple gauges for boost, oil press etc, new water pump, SCT XCAL3 flash tuner and I'm sure I'm forgetting heaps more... I was looking at buying a turbo, but i am either looking at paying over my budget for a nice, clean stocker, that hasn't been flogged at a Westfields Carpark on a weekly basis. Or i can fork out 8K for a car with banana peels keeping the gearbox from crunching, turbo with bearings that would squeal if they had enough metal to lock the wheel up with. So I'm diy my build, so far with the $1K minus $200 I sold the leftover BA for, plus about $2K in used and new parts and I'm only 1 MAP sensor and the oil return pipe short and i should be boosting in no time! Lol
The BA is the best looking Falcon.. well the XR range... can see you really loved it.. especially the love the owner has for the car.. Rare thing the BA in this condition...Again the music and camera angles.. will have to pay you to do a video for my car,,, not a review just a video.. Haha

I wish GM had brought out their twin turbo 3.6 to compete with the mighty Barra. BTW - Fasterproms K24 smartcar has over 530hp atw's - absolutely terrifying to ride in but fun to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it man! was easily the cleanest example of a BA i've seen.. that would have been great to see some major competition to the barra.. ill have to check that out haha sounds nuts
You know what? The BA/BF exterior has really grown on me. Especially in these colours like silver/black it looks more like a JDM old school era car. Just wish I could have the FG interior in it.
@2onefour8 That's a huge amount of power for a stock ba, did your friend buy the car new if not maybe its got a forged bottom end, no proper tuner would push a stock ba that far and for it to last 4yrs that's a record.🤣
They did have weaker rods but BF onwards were still not the be all end all. BA was new to tuners and mod scene so in the early days poor mods and tuning killed alot of motors, by the time FG came about reliability improved alot from overall knowledge over the years. I think the BA motor would still hold fairly well with proper tuning and is not as bad as they are made out to be. Plenty of stronger rod motors have also failed from people not knowing how to tune and mod properly as well
Hi Johnny mate, nothing puts a smile on your dial like a good old Barra mate hahaha, great review & beautiful Ba,i'm devastated just like everyone else that we've lost our car industry,I cant imagine what Ford & Holden would of produced in the future if they had of never collapsed, anyway there's a lot out there so we should still be able to enjoy them for a long, long time yet,ok take care you & your family bro.
The 4sp in any Falcon was always terrible when it came to overall ratios, they required some weird final drives to even get them moving, even then it still wasn't enough, kinda what killed their performance potential in all reality. The biggest let down with BA & BF models across the entire lineup was the super "cheap" plastics that had terrible graining/texture, to the point they looked like bloody tic tacs. Along with the overall build quality, constant issues that plagued them (Ford US refused to let Ford Aus come out with a better part), etc Also ever since the BA, seating position was a constant complaint, even from myself included.
@@RossReviewsau Look i won't deny the plastics/vinyls in the AU were alot more nicer looking & feeling. The 6sp manual was ideal, but until the ZF 6HP26 followed through in the BF, that's when i'd take it over the notchy manual
Great review like always and a nice clean sleeper. Sounds like you should add a snail to the xr8 then you will have all the great spooling and wastegate sounds and a great rumble.
Would probably be better to actually buy a turbo falcon and sell the N/A. Or upgrade to a FG /FGX XR6 N/A or Turbo. The NA BF on wards with ZF is way faster than the BA N/A with 4 speed auto. I have a N/A BFii with ZF and it is quick enough. Probably close to 7 secs to 100. Turbo BF on wards is faster still. If you are still keen then do alot of research first.
@@rabidsminions2079 done my research bud :) cheers though! Low boost setup with all the right bits is pretty reliable :) good for 300-350 rwhp , more for shits and giggles than anything else haha
@@RossReviewsau cheers.man! yeah will be sweet! Got all the parts and a tuner sorted, hoping to make it to Perth powercruise later this year with it done if it happens :)
i really want to do a comparison video on my XR8 and a SS im yet to find a SS thats similar year n mods to review tho.. would be nice to see the differences.
It used to be that Aussies + Kiwis talked about V8s but bought the sixes. Now they all talk about Falcons + Commodores but drive Japanese + Korean. I love these XR6T + V8 cars.. but nowhere near enough of us created a demand by actually buying one. Tow the boat with a Toyota or a Ranger. Second car is a Kia or Hyundai. But the WORST thing - that Im convinced killed V8 sedans is that Ford + Holden put a "shithead magnet" in the rear bumper of every V8 they built. Every dick in a Ranger or a V6 Holden still feels compelled to unfailingly drive 3" off my towbar especially in the rain.
If you throw in 1000cc injectors and a stock FPV front mount, I've got a tune you might be able to try, 900nm 300rwkw, its for a Ute though bf mk2 turbo motor :P
not sure on the total figure but they did a lot of work getting this BA to look the way it does.. its a fairly straight forward mod tho making it a XR6T if you wanted to do it to yours..
That interior surprised me. The infotainment screen makes a big difference to the centre stack and the knob controls look neat and user friendly overthe backward step of confusing buttons everywhere in the FG. The seats help to remove the taxi image. The wheels are on point and that colour really brings out the car. My dad would not be happy with the camouflage though. That's a sharp looking specimen of a BA. Congratulations Mitch!!
Dude that sounds awesome the ba falcon saved ford from a all time low with the au falcon the ba saved ford from the bottom in 2002 the ba won wheels of the year award the ba falcon may have flaws all the way to the fgx but to me the ba bf falcon are my favourite model I love em I'm saving to buy a bf gt been my dream car since I was a kid hopefully get to buy one this year you should make a bf gt gtp review even the bf gt cobra mate that would be awesome
@@heckler3119 I bought 12 month old AU (Series1) Forte wagon when I had two nippers under the age of 3. It was the only car you could buy at the time that could fit two child seats and a full grown adult on the back seat (equivalent commodore was tiny in comparison). So much storage space you could use it as a van, and it was a fairly rapid mover and great long distance cruiser, especially with aforesaid nippers... Personally I really liked the look of the series 1 with the vertical slat grille too, much better than the higher spec and later versions with more conventional nose. If I was a backpacker today, looking for something cheap to cross the country (when allowed again...) and sleep in, an AU wagon would be the top of my list.
@@johnphaceas7434 Thanks for telling your story. I really think the AU falcon is an unsung hero of the car world. An ugly ducking by birth but a beautiful swan for those who saw past its unconventional appearance. I currently drive an AU XL Ute and it hasn't let me down, just some minor nitpicking for a 21 year old car is all. I'd happily have a wagon next, they're so bloody roomy aren't they?
@@heckler3119 Great to hear mate. Yep the wagons are cavernous. I'm not even a "Ford" guy, but have always had a soft spot for some of the "maligned" Falcons. Had an EA Fairmont at one stage too that I bought for $700. It was fantastic, probably the most comfortable car I've ever owned though not exactly rapid.
How is it heavily modified? All I see is a capa cooler on it. And I doubt it has 300rwkw with no mods. My 300rwkw xr6t was baking tires from 1st to 3rd, this didn't even spin brake boosting from takeoff
heavily modified as it was a XR6 turned XR6 Turbo n fully restored.. the dyno sheet was given so hard to argue its not what it says🤷♂️ felt about 300rwkw to me
Not all us kiwis "boganise" them lol..My factory original 2005 BA2 turbo is still unmolested, ive had it since it was 2 yrs old and it gets lots of attention because its so clean.....it even has 400k on the clock but looking at it you would never know! The ford dealers who service it reckon its better than a new car to drive. Comes down to how well they get looked after, and unfortunately the burnout brigade got into BA's and then FG's after the R33/R34 skylines. Add to that the turbos are all getting their motors ripped out and stuck in other stuff, will soon be hard to find a "genuine factory" BA turbo in good nick, if at all!
Bro awesome video, I wanted to ask tho.. so anyway I picked up bf XR6 n/a it's got 133kms on it and was 7k I know I'm getting ripped off.. anyway how much to turbo it and will it kill the engines life span much? Cheers bro awesome vid.
7k for a NA ya bit pricey.. but covid tax lately i guess.. will cost you a bit to turbo convert it unless you are a mechanic lol prob at least 7k i think the turbo kits are like 3K alone.. then you have to do all the work.. shop around tho man hope you can find something
i mainly use just a small rode lav mic with a wind sock.. its still difficult to get good sound when driving but drive bys n exhaust shots it works a treat.. also use it for all my voice audio
@@doug-core8850 ya its so much better to have good audio.. can be tricky at times with the exhaust but i've had good success generally with the rode lav mic
Great review mate.., can agree with pretty much all u say.. BA,BF turbos are so cheap atm can pick a over 400rwhp one up for under 10k. I’ve got one and will never sell.., America killed our performance car industry as did our own government in the late 90’s early 00’s., put simply we were building better cars the America witch they didn’t like.., and when u let in bmw, Merc, Audi, vw etc with no billing to our own country will u soon sink our cars pretty quickly.. love the Barra and all Aussie fords and holdens as all we have left is what’s out there.., so buy ur turbo falcon or v8 holden ford as soon everything will be worth a lot more in the near future and you all will regret no buying that ba bf fg turbo for $k when u had the chance!!
its insane the price of them at the moment! im really tempted to get a turbo barra at the moment to park next to the ute! haha its a real shame they are all not still in production :(
Hey mate still loving the videos. I know it's not the point of these cars, but I'm curious how would you rate the handling of the BA vs FG turbos? Cheers!
haven't driven enough stock ones to make a good call.. but to be honest they have mostly felt similar.. you basically gotta get new suspension on both to have really nice handling.. the FGX was the best yet.. much more composed
i can see how you would think that i guess.. i've tried to not be doug lol but i do really like his reviews.. i prefer the older cars.. anything from the 90-2000 is my fav
if ford sold the falcon globally i reckon it would be more famous than the mustang
100% these would have eaten mustang for breakfast
Ford America wouldn't let that happen...such a shame

That, is a revelation.
That's 240kw at the crank for the stocker turbo, didnt this model have weak rods compared to the later model ?
yep.
Plenty of stronger rod motors have also failed from people not knowing how to tune and mod properly as well
Hi Johnny mate, nothing puts a smile on your dial like a good old Barra mate hahaha, great review & beautiful Ba,i'm devastated just like everyone else that we've lost our car industry,I cant imagine what Ford & Holden would of produced in the future if they had of never collapsed, anyway there's a lot out there so we should still be able to enjoy them for a long, long time yet,ok take care you & your family bro.
always love a barra haha glad you enjoyed it m8! was a ripper.. it is a shame the industry is dead here.. they made some of the very best. :(
The 4sp in any Falcon was always terrible when it came to overall ratios, they required some weird final drives to even get them moving, even then it still wasn't enough, kinda what killed their performance potential in all reality.
The biggest let down with BA & BF models across the entire lineup was the super "cheap" plastics that had terrible graining/texture, to the point they looked like bloody tic tacs.
Along with the overall build quality, constant issues that plagued them (Ford US refused to let Ford Aus come out with a better part), etc
Also ever since the BA, seating position was a constant complaint, even from myself included.
this is all true.. owning a ute BA myself (6 speed manual) thankfully.. interior quality has always been something ford has never done strongly..
@@RossReviewsau Look i won't deny the plastics/vinyls in the AU were alot more nicer looking & feeling. The 6sp manual was ideal, but until the ZF 6HP26 followed through in the BF, that's when i'd take it over the notchy manual
BA got the blue oval Bathurst back, only reason why I own one.
love a B series
@@RossReviewsau my only beef is headliners get more droop than a ball bag. Otherwise they are bloody tanks
So glad I live in Australia and have a BA falcon
2 of the best things in this world :)
BA always puts a smile on my face. mine is in standard form, but mint.
Great review like always and a nice clean sleeper. Sounds like you should add a snail to the xr8 then you will have all the great spooling and wastegate sounds and a great rumble.
That's the plan! one day haha! would love a turbo in the ute
Turboing my n/a ba in the coming weeks :) way to keep me inspired!
You got this! haha that will be awesome bro
@@RossReviewsau cheers.man! yeah will be sweet! Got all the parts and a tuner sorted, hoping to make it to Perth powercruise later this year with it done if it happens :)
@@RossHollandAU hell ya man make sure to say hello if it happens ill be there!
You need an xr6t and a ss. Best of both worlds!
i really want to do a comparison video on my XR8 and a SS im yet to find a SS thats similar year n mods to review tho.. would be nice to see the differences.
Ross Reviews I have a 2012 ss with a l77 (ls2) that may be similar but I have bolt ons. If pure ever in Victoria I’d gladly bring my ride for a review
@@Dylmark appreciate that m8! hope to go east soon once the country opens up again
I had a mercury silver ba xr6 turbo manual. So annoyed I sold it, was the best car I ever owned and so much fun.
its always the way eh! instant regret after you sell
@@RossReviewsau actually no joke picking up another BA xr6 turbo mercury silver 6 speed manual today haha!
@@beyondbackwater4933 congrats!
Another good vid Ross 🤙 laugh at your facial reactions everytime you put your foot down lol😳😳😜🤪
haha!😆 i love it eh!
If you throw in 1000cc injectors and a stock FPV front mount, I've got a tune you might be able to try, 900nm 300rwkw, its for a Ute though bf mk2 turbo motor :P
yup 300rwkws is what im after for a initial tune
Great video. Do you have any detail on the exhaust size/combination fitted?
No, sorry was only given the mods list thats in the description m8..
Sounds like the most expensive one out there :)
I get your enthusiasm ..
It comes through √
lot of money spent on it but the owner grabbed it for a steal price.. you would be shocked..
I really do love a good BA
Looks shit hot, love the xr8 bonnet on it too.. fucking clean too for a 15 year old car
so clean for a car over 15 years old! love em
How much did it cost to restore back to original and upgrade performance parts so it matches a stock xr6 turbo from a stock non-turbo model?
not sure on the total figure but they did a lot of work getting this BA to look the way it does.. its a fairly straight forward mod tho making it a XR6T if you wanted to do it to yours..
Heh, maybe if I had money....
I have a 2011 fg NA with only 120,000. How much would it cost me to turbo it and get 4 or 500hp?
That interior surprised me. The infotainment screen makes a big difference to the centre stack and the knob controls look neat and user friendly overthe backward step of confusing buttons everywhere in the FG.
The seats help to remove the taxi image.
The wheels are on point and that colour really brings out the car. My dad would not be happy with the camouflage though.
That's a sharp looking specimen of a BA. Congratulations Mitch!!
ya its got a bit more character than the FG i reckon haha still nothing flash but they did a good job cleaning this interior up!
Also it would be good if you’re a p plater (at least in qld) cause you wouldn’t get pulled over by the coppers for having a big arse turbo
yeh you most likely would get away with it haha
The 2004 to 2010 barras are absolutely sexy
HOT*
Is it just me or 2000s cars are the best?🚗
90s and 2000s are easily the best
Dude that sounds awesome the ba falcon saved ford from a all time low with the au falcon the ba saved ford from the bottom in 2002 the ba won wheels of the year award the ba falcon may have flaws all the way to the fgx but to me the ba bf falcon are my favourite model I love em I'm saving to buy a bf gt been my dream car since I was a kid hopefully get to buy one this year you should make a bf gt gtp review even the bf gt cobra mate that would be awesome
ahhh man thats awesome id love to get a review on a FPV GT-P the BF/BA is one of my fav when done right...
Even though there was nothing wrong with the AU falcon really, it was the styling, especially with the Fortè that caused a loss in sales.
Woow this is almost look like my ba xr6t except the rims mine once got stock wheels.. same turbo same hp same setup ❤❤❤love barra
thats awesome m8 haha almost like i gave your car a review without actually reviewing it🤣 glad you liked it m8
@@RossReviewsau thanks m8 you legend😂😂
Do you contact people for a review or do they come to you ? Just curious
99% of cars i get are offered to me.. i've been very lucky to have such amazing support and trust worthy owners :)
How do I like this video thrice? And btw I love that exhaust sound 👍
sounds mean eh :)
How is it heavily modified? All I see is a capa cooler on it. And I doubt it has 300rwkw with no mods. My 300rwkw xr6t was baking tires from 1st to 3rd, this didn't even spin brake boosting from takeoff
heavily modified as it was a XR6 turned XR6 Turbo n fully restored.. the dyno sheet was given so hard to argue its not what it says🤷♂️ felt about 300rwkw to me
6:52 - I was anticipating a ZF fart on the gear change even though you mentioned it was a 4 speed. That was almost a seemless gear change.
no farts here lol old BTR does alright for what it is
Actually a dope set up no lie
its so nice really makes me want a xr6 turbo
Definitely hit that thumbs up for you great work we are also car enthusiasts we hope we can support each other’s channel 🙏
I like the car, but i struggle with how the barra sounds especially compared to other straight 6 turbos
true.. they def don't sound as good as my XR8 lol but i love the turbo spooling and blow off noises :P
There is traction control on the ba xr6t
Awesome man 👌🏻 the OG
Cheers brotha
So hard to find a clean BA. That one ticks all the boxes .
it is so hard to find a good one! was really really impressed with the amount of attention this one got :)
Warren Ballard yeah most of them get boganised especially in Nz 😂😂
John T respect to you then, I’d hold on to that one 👌
Get yourself to 50,000 subs and you can get your xr6 turbo no worries. We need to see barra skids lol
lets hope we get 50K one day! will be skidzzz for days m8
Looks way cool without the rear spoiler.
sick cars
Was this done in Victoria? I'd love to go to the mechanics you went to for it
Perth
Reliable cars ? I’ve got a xr6 turbo 2013 fg mk2 and that has never given me a problem. Is this version of the xr6t reliable ?
engine is reliable but the bodys are not that great lol. diff bushes, roof lining, window switches to name a few
I drive on that road often. Never seen that car unfortunately.
great road! hopefully one day you will catch it driving around
Bro awesome video, I wanted to ask tho.. so anyway I picked up bf XR6 n/a it's got 133kms on it and was 7k I know I'm getting ripped off.. anyway how much to turbo it and will it kill the engines life span much? Cheers bro awesome vid.
7k for a NA ya bit pricey.. but covid tax lately i guess.. will cost you a bit to turbo convert it unless you are a mechanic lol prob at least 7k i think the turbo kits are like 3K alone.. then you have to do all the work.. shop around tho man hope you can find something
u still got her
Hey ross, i was wondering what sound equipment you use to capture engine nose so well inside and outside the cars.
i mainly use just a small rode lav mic with a wind sock.. its still difficult to get good sound when driving but drive bys n exhaust shots it works a treat.. also use it for all my voice audio
@@RossReviewsau the drive bys are a favourite of mine.
But full load exhaust audio is something i wanna capture on my car.
@@doug-core8850 ya its so much better to have good audio.. can be tricky at times with the exhaust but i've had good success generally with the rode lav mic
Nice video bro ✅
Thanks 💯
Great review mate.., can agree with pretty much all u say.. BA,BF turbos are so cheap atm can pick a over 400rwhp one up for under 10k. I’ve got one and will never sell.., America killed our performance car industry as did our own government in the late 90’s early 00’s., put simply we were building better cars the America witch they didn’t like.., and when u let in bmw, Merc, Audi, vw etc with no billing to our own country will u soon sink our cars pretty quickly.. love the Barra and all Aussie fords and holdens as all we have left is what’s out there.., so buy ur turbo falcon or v8 holden ford as soon everything will be worth a lot more in the near future and you all will regret no buying that ba bf fg turbo for $k when u had the chance!!
its insane the price of them at the moment! im really tempted to get a turbo barra at the moment to park next to the ute! haha its a real shame they are all not still in production :(
Ross Reviews yeah it mate.. so very cheap now jump on one unit
what rims are those?? they look mint as! i want them
i think they are in the mods list in the description possibly..
@@RossReviewsau do they at least handle better than a Camry? Lol
@@zachmo9587 oh ya man for sure.. still go alright.. but big cars.. so bit boatie haha
