I never ever normally comment on anything, but after owning my ba mk2 xr6 N/A for 3 years that I still daily today, to owning a MK2 BF XR6T 6 speed zf in breeze that came completely stock for me to learn and mod for myself, all at the age of 19 before I even get my opens! (Only 20 now btw) I just wanted one that bad. The bf is just the best looking falcon, so aggresive, not European looking like the FG, not to rounded in the front like the ba, the bf is just right. I could go on forever, but in my personal opinion, the BF is the bees knees.
They're a solid car, road presence and a heavy falcon feel. Steering one is easy as, drives real hard sideways but they got a heavy wheel unlike the Au
I owned a BF Fairmont for 13 years. I bought it in 2006 when it was 11 months old with only 16000kms on the clock, and sold it in 2019. It is absolutely worth buying a BF Falcon if anyone wants a cheap, reliable, comfortable cruiser. I love Falcons, always have. Spacious, comfortable cruisers, with an effortless straight six engine, and if I could buy my old Fairmont back I'd do it in a heartbeat. Before the BF I owned an EA for 7 years. Even now, there's just something very familiar about jumping into a Falcon - any Falcon. I now drive an MD Mondeo Titanium Ecoboost, and no I don't regret buying the Mondeo. It is a better car in every objective way, except for aural pleasure. It has the low-end torque like the Fairmont, and the engine certainly doesn't feel strained despite being only a 4 cylinder. It just can't replicate the awesome noise of the Barra six, that's for sure. I just regret selling the Fairmont.
I had an EL sedan before my BF Ute and tbh I prefer the older model in many ways. The cabins of the E series seem to be much better put together, less cramped and more comfortable. The car that I wish I had bought ten years ago would be a 2001/2 AU Fairmont. Unlike many I love the quirky look of the AU Sedans and the interior looks awesome. I suspect it would be the most comfortable version of the lot although unfortunately I have never driven one.
Just bought a mk2 Fairmont ghia 4 weeks ago as a tow car for my motorbikes for 2k with 160kms as the fgx xr8 can stay on road lol, then bought a bf,mk2 xr6 with 130kms yesterday for 2600
Bring back Australian car manufacturing. I own 4 Australian made cars and I love driving them. I have a 1966 Morris Mini Deluxe, my first car. A 1977 Leyland Mini Van, A 2010 FG XR6 awesome car and a 2013 VF Holden Commodore SV6 also lovely to drive. I do feel that the FG seats are more comfortable. I drive the Falcon from Brisbane to Sydney a few times a year, and I never feel fatigued after a 10 or 12 hour drive depending on the traffic. Australia built great cars. Now the government is trying to make us all buy EV’s. This country is just to big and not set up for them yet. I won’t buy one, I couldn’t afford one anyway and I would be scared to park it in my garage incase it caught on fire. I will keep driving my Australian built cars for as long as I can. I’m proud to drive them.
EVs only work in ideal conditions, as soon as you take them out of ideal conditions they are rubbish. They can work in a narrow use case for some undemanding people , but they are not versatile, due to their very design, any time they are under load , in adverse conditions, or towing they are rubbish, add to that , the range they have the day you drive them off the showroom floor, is not the range you will have in 3,5,8 , or 10 years time . They are not a good value prospect, the best case scenario would be if you must own one , would be to use the EV for local , short shuttles , short trips , but have an ICE vehicle as well to do the heavy lifting so to speak.
Back in 2018 I sourced a BF2 Fairmont Ghia, candy apple (Red Emperor?) over cream leather for my younger brother. Lovely car in every way. Last year he bought a small runabout and I got the Fairmont Ghia... and every time I use it I thank myself for finding such a terrific car..!
My parents have a VZ commodore wagon that I’m learning in and I must say you are right. They feel planted and comfortable on road. The wagon handles like shit around corners but it’s a super relaxing car to drive. I would love to drive a falcon at some point because the alloytec isn’t smooth and definitely isn’t as niceas the old 4L
@@seanowens3153 yeah idk, maybe just something wrong with it or the fact it’s a commodore (it’s also base model and doesn’t even have power windows in the back) but yeah doesn’t handle that great and very heavy to drive
Best thing about the BTR is they are reasonably cheap to service and replace and are fairly reliable. Having owned both BTR’s and a few zf 6 speeds. The BTR holds slightly higher RPM on fwy which yes means more fuel use but it’s in a better power band when you hit a hill. 6 speed will drop more speed initially before it reacts. Not much but especially noticeable with a b series turbo.
I own a Territory TS (2004) and with it having the same running gear as the BA BF it is effortless to drive also. The only thing I noticed when I first bought it going from an E series to an SUV was slight heavier steering due to the bigger tyres but within weeks I didn't notice the difference anymore. Long live the Barra.
I once owned A b series fairlane, other than A few drivetrain parts self destructing & the cheap feeling door handles. It was overall a solid car the 5.4 had a reasonable kick to it for a saloon!
Yes, the commodores drive well along australian roads as well, driving in a manual v6 vx commodore for years, and it is very smooth and comfortable on the road even with 370,000 kms (although it hasnt been driven on the road for a few years now), and even comparing it to a 2022 toyota kluger that i recently got to drive the kluger absorbed individual potholes a bit better, the overall drive was a bit rigid and rattly and not quite as smooth as the commodore even though it was still comfortable.
Very nice car for the money Nathan will be interesting seeing how it serves you over time, I think you're spot on about BF's offering the best ride & handling experience, back in 2008 I bought a new BF XT sedan as a run-out special it was a beautiful car to drive you could get the exact seating & driving position to suit your height & weight, even the standard radio sound wasn't too bad. Anyway for years I've owned a FG XT its not quite the same as the BF almost like Ford dropped their quality control just doesn't seem to be as comfortable and has bit of a cheaper feel. Thanks again and will look forward to seeing future updates on your very nice BF XR6
Having owned XT , XA , XC , EF , EL , Egas AU and an Egas BA I am looking at a BF wagon for a tow car as our Pootrol has $hit itself needing a new engine for around 10K . There are plenty BA-BFs around for under 5K but many are either wrecks , have high mileage , are full of rust or have mechanical issues etc . Hoping to look at an 07 BF tomorrow for 4K.
Usually first thing to do regarding bt r s is external tranny cooler, me nc being a v8 got it standard but still going through the radiator so I bypassed that. Au yep did a tranny cooler.
I bought my BA SR about 2 and half years ago now and the only problems I have had with it is the BCM in the ICC played up and wouldn’t start was very pricey to get fixed but it’s well worth the money and as a my proper first car they are great and also had just over 124000 Ks on it for and bought for $3100 now just under 160 been a very good car, but if you’re doing silly things in them get a different radiator those stock ones just don’t cut it in my opinion
My dad got a BF MK2 XR6 with the ZF6 transmission in 2007 in the stunning breeze colour that was the first car I was in when my dad drive me home from the hospital it’s now just sitting in my back yard one owner with just under 112,000ks it’s all stock except for some black Simmons but still have the OEM wheels
Yep an excellent independent suspension set up that was bulletproof on the AU S2/3 as well, unlike the later b series model falcons that chewed through bushes , just like the territory. You only have to ask a taxi driver which model was in the workshop more often for bushes , and that was the B series. I drove a S2 XR6 for 15 years , best driving position, best leather seats you sit in rather than on , you could drive from Melbourne to Sydney with a 17 foot van on the back , it would be like a laser beam going up the highway , and you could get out at the other end without aches and pains. Mine still had all the original bushes and ball joints at 260,000 odd K’s , and the ball joints still had minimal movement , that was a good car , I parked it up at 17 years of service because the body was tired , it also had hail damage from being left out in the weather for 17 years. I did always think it looked like a cockroach, but it was a good car , not without one or two little flaws , some of the switch gear in the cabin was a bit cheap , Power window buttons for example , on the plus side when the contacts where dirty , you could pull the switch out with a butter knife easily and often repair them , or replace them, the driver side of the steering rack could have been engineered to have a better seal in it rather than just an O ring that after some miles where prone to weep a bit , the timing chain adjuster also had this little annoyance, not a big deal though. The Au S2 was one of the few cars in my life I said if ford ever brought it out again I would buy another. And I’m old and worked in the motor industry for some years , and have had a lot of cars. Series one AUs I’m not a fan of though , they had some serious issues. I’d still have a bf though if it was in good nick , I have a mate with a pristine BF XR6 with 60,000 k’s on it , been garaged its whole life, and probably comes out of the garage once a month . There are good ones out there.
I've owned a lot of commos for falcons Always go back to my VE UTE it was my first car and I will drive it until its dies. Coil springs all-round, factory lad, manual, pletty of power Skids drifts what ever, Its only a 6 and no they don't have timeing chain issues if you service your car!!! Mine 250,000 oringal chains never opened
Used to have this exact car same colour. Biggest issue I had was intake manifold gasket blowing out and me not knowing how to drive in the wet with an open diff at 19… I put pacemaker 4490’s, venom cat and red back exhaust on it and it sounded great. If I did an exhaust again, I’d probably just delete the middle muffler and leave the rest. Being an old man now I’d keep it stock. It had 250,000km on it when I sold it 8 years ago so it’s probably scrapped by now. They’re still great for a cheap reliable daily. Family had many B series clocking mid 400,000km’s and still going. I Replaced it with a low km BFII F6 Typhoon as I was that into them I wanted the “top model”. At the time it only cost me $13k. I might end up selling my FG ute and daily driving that F6 for a few years. B series feels a lot tighter than the FG and easier to work on. Finally, cars are a money pit. If you want something that is nice to drive, cheap and practical these are good choice. Its a better choice than half the crap people shell out for these days. Put the money into something productive.
The BTR is great in the BF Falcon with the 3.23 or 3.45 diff gears iv owned like 10 B series falcons and the BF 4speed actually smokes FG 6speeds no problem from 100-200kmh
My ba 2005,air con still icy cold ,never been re gassed, gearbox never been serviced, doesn't use a drop of oil,no oil leaks, trayback with 569.870ks ye haa!
I love B series. Compared with my FG - a b series with fresh bushes and suspension will drive tighter than an FG. They don't require as thick of a sway bar to feel good. The ball joints are super easy to replace, 20 minutes a side. But you have to be proactive. They can destroy your car if you let them collapse. The FG is a bit safer in that regard. But.. wait until your heater decides it won't change temp anymore Did the job once. Never again. I paid someone to fix mine 😅 worst dash to remove
I 100% agree with most points. All new cars I’ve been in have super uncomfortable seats and have too much of this driving assistance bs that you dont need at all. With older cars like a falcon, you feel like you have complete control and they’re super easy to drive. Nice on the pedal with good resistance unlike modern cars and the steering is just so easy, its not extremely sensitive which makes your drive more stressful in my opinion. UP THE FORD FALCON!!!
World class for the price point even when new,The engines Barra or V8 go 600-800,000 without a problem if serviced correctly and mt BF XR8 is epic with track suspension and adjustable whiteline bars and the Vortech supercharger and PcmTec tune has transformed it into a mental case yet 9.5 litres a 100k on cruise at 110kmh (750nm and 575hp) at the engine simply add modern stereo and brighter fabric etc
If you don’t mind throwing money at it ! Because in reality that is what you’re gonna do whether you like it or not ! Overall amazing cars and drive beautifully and solid. And I’m a Ford fanatic. 😊
Throw money at it??? as in like two dollars?? I own a shed full of cars and honestly my BF's (3 x RTV's 1 x Fairmont Ghia 1 x Fairlane Ghia) are the cheapest, simplest and most reliable cars around. No car is dickhead proof but the B's are pretty close to it.
What about compared to an AU? How do they compare? I have owned an EL and now have a BF but the AU is actually the most desireable to me but I have never driven one sadly.
Hey, naturally isn't a bf gonna be better than an au? Ford usually make improvements to newer models so ain't surprised on what ur saying. I got few cars with all different stuff but being fords. Nc fairlane v8 Xh xr6 manual Au2 vct auto Me parents having had ef gli Ba mk2 future still got it
Not gonna even bother watching the video the answer is yes absolutely. Big improvements from the ba , still has that classic B series look, has a ZF6 , end of story.
I own the same subi and a xr fgx falcon, The Falc seats are softer and more wrappy and comfortable, the subi seats are flater and harder being leather but the set warmers are handy, the subi is still quite spacious though.
Yeah totally. ..the B series plastics go brittle & break....whereas the AUs are a weird kind of ooey gooey sticky yucky....but they dont break....AUs are totally disgusting in EVERY respect. ...but they just dont break😜😈👍
@@lancecooper4646and the AU didn't have that stupid fucken ICC unit, so you could easily whack in a better radio, or if it's radio died, you'd still have air con.
BF2 xr6 manual Ute, new suspension under it and decent brakes(territory fronts) Looks rough but I’m never selling it. Will get another 300,000 out of it easy.
What about fuel consumption? You pay a price for that powerful large capacity six. I had a T4 Toyota Lexcen (rebadged VS Commodore) and I felt fresh after a five hour country trip. Ample power certainly helps.
Let me see, oil pump gears, weaker transmission, two pinion diff centre, irs that takes a day to pull out, interior panels that fall off, Ignition barrels that break in two, i'll stick with older ford.
got given a BF falcon ute in 2020 as a work car to haul parts, full service history, had only done 90k when we got it 1. within 12 months cab corners started to rust badly and bottom of the doors started to rust, now in 2024 bottom of the doors are toast and cab corners have been fixed twice 2. wiper arms seized out of nowhere, went to the wreckers to get a new motor and was told ''common ford problem, no stock'' so had to hunt down a set on ebay 3. ignition barrel seized and broke, found out i had to replace the entire steering column because ford made it one piece, and, you guessed it, ''common ford problem, no stock'' car was out of action for a week and had to have a new key programmed also 4. replaced battery as it was getting tired and factory radio locked up, cant just enter a code it needs a scan tool (why?) i dunno, i guess i got extremely bad luck, but its absolutely scared me away from ever buying a BA/BF myself
They are mechanically tough but everything else is fragile. Ford Australia build quality was diabolical in terms of rust and the interiors. A throwback to the 80s. I have a 2006 BF Ute while in the UK my sister has a 2006 Focus (built in Germany) and the quality of the Focus interior and body work is streets ahead of my Falcon. It is difficult to believe the cars are from the same company. It is really the inline 6 that is the heart and soul of the Aussie Fords.
got mine with 130000k for 5 grand and honestly if your a p plater just get yourself a f series if you want something that’s quicker, though i still think the b series is the better looking car.
It depends whether Turbo, in SA you're not allowed to upgrade a NA XR 6 to a turbo, anyway whether 5 or 6 speed manual is better than auto less trouble and more fun
Diff bushes require replacement around 140,000 problem is idiots tow 3-4 tonne behind them and still whinge when they get the rear end clunks at 120,000 lol fir superpro bushes etc and whammo never touch again
ICC unit still working? Heater blowing hot and cold? Seats still have plenty of cushion left? 178kw 4ltr straight six with VVTI is dismal and we all know the BA Barra and 4spd auto are weak as piss and cannot be reliably modified without being built. Best things I like about the BA is the looks, the way it feels planted on the road, highway economy and the overtaking punch.
Crumble doors are shit and the only good thing in a FG falcon is the engine and gearbox if it’s manual transmission I’m old school and don’t like the b series falcon everything breaks on them inside and the little crap computer screen is shit plastic crap 💩 seats are crap the IRS diff is gay like a crumble door and they rust out in the sills boot lid and rear quarter panels basically there clone car boring as bat shit like a common door
Something's a bit wrong with the car being a "BF Series 2" and yet having an old BA series BTR auto in it... At the start of the BF series, all BF moved to ZF 6HP26 6 speed auto. I think you have a BA there with a BF front bar on it. Also, the BA tail lights and seats are a dead giveaway this car is not really a BF...

shell out for these days. Put the money into something productive.
The BTR is great in the BF Falcon with the 3.23 or 3.45 diff gears iv owned like 10 B series falcons and the BF 4speed actually smokes FG 6speeds no problem from 100-200kmh
Baha what u are blowing smoke out of your ass mate
U have legit no idea or no money to afford better
@@nickwilliams-li6wr says the guy watching bf falcon videos hahahha u must be a real space cadet with ur 2cents haha legit guy u dumb af
😂😂 zf is a far superior gearbox
Love my BA MkII XR8 6 speed manual Ute and my wife's FG XR6 auto.
But.. wait until your heater decides it won't change temp anymore
Did the job once. Never again. I paid someone to fix mine 😅 worst dash to remove
Yep my heater stopped working last winter.
I have BF MK 2 euro pak (XT), 6 SP. auto ,5 17 in mags, LSD, rebuilt engine, plenty more done, for sale
I’ve owned pretty much every series of Falcon, and absolutely agree the B series six packs are the way to go.
What about compared to an AU? How do they compare? I have owned an EL and now have a BF but the AU is actually the most desireable to me but I have never driven one sadly.
Great video there, Nathan.
Keep it up, great content.👍.
Cheers from William.
I’ve had both commodores and falcons and the falcon is better on the highway, much less taxing to drive.
I own a xr6 turbo in the same model best car love it to bits , nothing like the prime of AUSDM
Ba falcon = the best modern falcon
Bf lol
honestly, I'd say fg is definitely the most developed, bit heavy though
Hey, naturally isn't a bf gonna be better than an au? Ford usually make improvements to newer models so ain't surprised on what ur saying.
I got few cars with all different stuff but being fords.
Nc fairlane v8
Xh xr6 manual
Au2 vct auto
Me parents having had ef gli
Ba mk2 future still got it
Owning an FG BA and AU
Gotta say I like the AU most
the only downside to them is the way the stereo is a permanent fixture in the dash doesn't allow for easily putting a double din unit in
Short answer, YES!
Not gonna even bother watching the video the answer is yes absolutely. Big improvements from the ba , still has that classic B series look, has a ZF6 , end of story.
BF MKII turbo here 350,000km, 600hp, the thing keeps going. I still see no better car to replace it
My missus bought a 2019 Liberty "premium" and the seats in it are shit compared to the XR.
Made for Asian frames, not Caucasian.
I own the same subi and a xr fgx falcon, The Falc seats are softer and more wrappy and comfortable, the subi seats are flater and harder being leather but the set warmers are handy, the subi is still quite spacious though.
The B series interior may look significantly better, but from experience, the AUs interior build quality is miles ahead of the B series.
Just put a decent facia kit and double din stereo in it.
What about fuel consumption?
You pay a price for that powerful large capacity six.
I had a T4 Toyota Lexcen (rebadged VS Commodore) and I felt fresh after a five hour country trip. Ample power certainly helps.
I have a BF Fairmont 4 speed auto. I get 8 lt per 100km on the highway
yes love mine 07 mark 2 xr6 na , it has the zf in it goes wekk with the zf , just diff bushes and suspension issues other that that it goes,
Gotta love a Copperhead BF
It’s worth buying any Falcon
Idc that mine is falling apart it’s worth it the only good car
Ba Bf falcons are perfect highway cruisers. they clock up the kms effortlessly even 4deep with a bootload of crap. 😂
Let me see, oil pump gears, weaker transmission, two pinion diff centre, irs that takes a day to pull out, interior panels that fall off, Ignition barrels that break in two, i'll stick with older ford.
Love my ve. Easy to to over long distances. Would love a bf too
got given a BF falcon ute in 2020 as a work car to haul parts, full service history, had only done 90k when we got it
1. within 12 months cab corners started to rust badly and bottom of the doors started to rust, now in 2024 bottom of the doors are toast and cab corners have been fixed twice
2. wiper arms seized out of nowhere, went to the wreckers to get a new motor and was told ''common ford problem, no stock'' so had to hunt down a set on ebay
3. ignition barrel seized and broke, found out i had to replace the entire steering column because ford made it one piece, and, you guessed it, ''common ford problem, no stock'' car was out of action for a week and had to have a new key programmed also
4. replaced battery as it was getting tired and factory radio locked up, cant just enter a code it needs a scan tool (why?)
i dunno, i guess i got extremely bad luck, but its absolutely scared me away from ever buying a BA/BF myself
Weld the diff, Winton ready 🤪
Needs more Peter
got mine with 130000k for 5 grand and honestly if your a p plater just get yourself a f series if you want something that’s quicker, though i still think the b series is the better looking car.
Why do people spoil them with those black moustaches?
Facts, it looks horrible in my opinion.
Even worst why do people remove the spoilers on the xr6 it completely ruins the car
I just got my bf ute with a t5 manual gearbox omg it is really good
I’ve got a 2006 Fpv typhoon and 2015 Mazda2. The mazda2 is a much nicer car to drive believe it or not.
3:20 in saying that my au s3 xr6 has the same irs so au are still viable
Have you driven a irs au? Better in my opinion and rear ends stronger then b series don't flogg out as easy
Hey what exhaust is this BF running on? Do you have any idea?
This has to be AI, he put the bonnet up on a b series and it stayed up.
What exhaust are you running ???
Ford, like GM build cars down to a profit margin. Toyota build their cars up to a reputation.
Short answer?
Yes it is worth it.
I loved my Ef xr6 but my BF fucken awesome .
bro just tell em nah. i need more but the price keeps rising, i dont need competition
Have a BF XR6 Lowndes Ute great car
Nice vid
BARRA POWER SON
The most American sedan that was never sold in America.
not unless you are prepared to spend about $24k in repairs.
I thought bfs only had the 6 speeds?
i thought these had the first 6 spd can someone help me with that? or do these have the 4spds
2000kms a week? What do you do for work bros
That’s like Melbourne to Sydney and back
I like Ford's n Holdens but my wife hates bogan .. I secretly love bogans
It depends whether Turbo, in SA you're not allowed to upgrade a NA XR 6 to a turbo, anyway whether 5 or 6 speed manual is better than auto less trouble and more fun
Fg is buy far the best
i own 2 Found on rubbish dumps a ba and a bf
Diff bushes require replacement around 140,000 problem is idiots tow 3-4 tonne behind them and still whinge when they get the rear end clunks at 120,000 lol fir superpro bushes etc and whammo never touch again
It's got the longer legs
Just paid 30 K for a GTP
ICC unit still working?
Heater blowing hot and cold?
Seats still have plenty of cushion left?
178kw 4ltr straight six with VVTI is dismal and we all know the BA Barra and 4spd auto are weak as piss and cannot be reliably modified without being built.
Best things I like about the BA is the looks, the way it feels planted on the road, highway economy and the overtaking punch.
First
Crumble doors are shit and the only good thing in a FG falcon is the engine and gearbox if it’s manual transmission I’m old school and don’t like the b series falcon everything breaks on them inside and the little crap computer screen is shit plastic crap 💩 seats are crap the IRS diff is gay like a crumble door and they rust out in the sills boot lid and rear quarter panels basically there clone car boring as bat shit like a common door
Great cars, I'll have any Falcon over todays modern rubbish.
Sorry mate you’ve got this completely incorrect. The base model BF XR6 had the BTR as standard.
Go on car sales and you’ll see.
