Same as the LS1 kept stock I bought mine with 210k kms and sold mine with 357k kms and car has been sold twice since then , no mechanical problems besides components around it that needed replacing, starter motor , alternator, power steering pump ect all parts bought cheap used good car for 5k
@@nikoniko9251the old SS is a great car. I've always had valiants but the SS has been just as reliable. Just had to get an Fg turbo, seems like a good car so far.
This is my car! Glad you enjoyed reviewing it. Unfortunately there will always be haters for any car judging by some of the comments. I've owned more than 15 performance cars of all makes and models over the past 10 years, including Chrysler, Holden, Ford, BMW and Lexus. So I think I'm pretty qualified to have an informed opinion. None of the others have ever put a smile on my face like this XR6 Turbo does. It was in properly rough shape when I bought it as it had been hardly maintained since leaving the police force. The clear coat on one half of the car was completely gone and the interior was falling to pieces. I've been fixing it up bit by bit - retrimming all the seats and roof liner, fixing the steering wheel, welding some cracked seat rails, replacing diff bushes, ceramic coating, new rotors etc. It's getting there and I'm proud of how it's coming along! The aftermarket head unit seems to be a sticking point and a lot of people don't like the look of that Aerpro one. Personally I've tried both Kayhan and Aerpro. They both look crap compared to factory, but I've had terrible experiences with Kayhan products in the past. This Aerpro unit has served me well. This car has been the most reliable, trustworthy and practical car I've ever owned. Plenty of power, great looks, no major mechanical issues. It's a bloody crying shame Ford was starved of cash by the end because this platform would have been an absolute weapon if they had more funding to luxe it up a bit. As it stands, the driving experience is so involving and immersive, the transmission is smooth like butter, the balance is perfect. Only other thing I'd say is that yes, the position of the drivers seat certainly isn't for everyone. Personally I've gotten accustomed to it and now find it really comfortable. EDIT: oh and the fuel economy! I promise it's not that bad in average real world conditions. I take this car to work most days and unfortunately I have to sit in a lot of a stop start traffic which really hurts fuel bill. Plus I've got a heavy foot.
I had a G6E Turbo as a company car. I did a 400 meter event. With the traction control on it had wheel spin in the first 3 gears but still did the 400 in 13.05 in standard road trim and tyre pressures. It was a sleeper that shocked a lot of people that thought they had fast cars.
i have a 2010 g6e turbo with an un opened bottom end here in nz with about 260ks on the clock had many falcons before this one but this was the panicle imo and wanted to get one , old boy owned it before me did a lot of open road driving. Im no stranger to turbo 6s but absolutely love this thing have just done a bunch of mods to it and got it dyno tuned it made a staggering 550rwhp on moderate boost i did the valve springs oil pump gears and the head studs but all in all straight forward simple stuff and these barras are woken up my one still has a heap more in it but for now its a mint sleeper and looks like a grandads car. Its a bloody shame Ford dropped the falcon.
I came across your "ReDriven "channel by a random search, and I am glad I did.... What a fantastic video, absolutely love it. The review was spot on. ... I have owned 3 FG's, firstly a 2009 FG G6E N/A, then a 2010 FG G6E TURBO, and now I drive a FG MK2 G6E N/A. Anyone who has driven these cars are well aware that the 4 litre Barra matched to the German ZF 6 speed is a match made in heaven. In fact if you do a search for the most reliable 6 cylinders in the world, you will find the Barra in this list. There has to be something said for the excellent torque characteristics of the Barra. Such a silky smooth drive. For those people who aren't aware, using premium fuel in the naturally aspirated FG with the Barra will increase your power and torque. Figures from Ford Australia indicate: 91 RON is 195 kW and 391 Nm 95 RON is 201kW and 409 Nm 98 RON is 208kW and 420 Nm Not too shabby for an Australian designed and built Engine.
I’m not Australian and not living in Australia. Visited Melbourne for a month in 1997, car manufacturers were Holden, Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan. That same year Nissan closed. If I remember correctly. 2007 I went back there for 1 year. Mitsubishi closed. Only the last three still standing. Eventually all closed down. Sad.
300 million tax payer dollars every year, isn't even enough to keep either Holden or Ford domestic manufacturing afloat. Practically an alternative Centrelink to keep the racial hierarchy strong, similar to how tradies are so overpaid.
and now unfortunately we're getting chinese crap cars imported over here now with the lack of manufacturing because our government for whatever reason froths over everything china
I own 26 Falcons which includes 11 turbo Falcons from BA to FGX and unlike everyone else that traded them in , I kept all of mine. These engine will do a million untouched if serviced every 7,500k . How do I know because my BF turbo Ute has done 933,000km and counting.
@@chrisgregory4796 I collect Falcons especially XR’s and turbos. As for the BF Turbo it’s a delivery ute for my mechanical/ freight company and does more like 50k a year. I haven’t bothered to replace it as it doesn’t give me any problems . That’s the things with Falcons , if looked after properly they will just keep going and going .
I've owned a BF, two FGs. Still have my FG XR6. Super low ks. Falcon's always handle and drove extremely well. For a large car they have excellent cat. The turbocharged models are very quick and capable.
The FPV F6X is the unsung hero in the Barra engine fleet. With that WRX style scoop on the bonnet, All Wheel Drive and Brembo brakes, it is arguably the best Australian made SUV ever made.
Love the review guys and all without using “agricultural” to describe the falcon at any stage. I have the Turbo Barra in my 09 SY2 Territory. I get an average 15-16l/100kns. Great power 7 seats, xr6 leather interior and the 3rd owner now for 7 years and now approaching 260k. By far the most practical car, fun to drive, reliable and without having to be precious about it. I keep thinking about updating but would feel like I would have to give up something in the process
Buying a newer car you will only get more technology but you will lose rid and handling quality the Falcon and Commodores were built for Australian roads
O.M.G! BULLSEYE! Great review! Tears to the eyes on what we've lost (and what we took for granted). Not perfect but pretty perfect for our environment and our lifestyle. Our local cars made true and faithful friends.
Thanks for the vid guys. Love the big barra turbos. I had a BF XR6 Turbo from new, followed by an FG G6E Turbo, which I put 200,000km on before selling last year. The ONLY thing that let down the FG and forced me to sell it in the end, was the farking air con. It starting going haywire when the car was 4 years old, and drove me nuts for the next five years. I had a new HVAC unit ($1200 part!) installed twice, and rebuilt once. When the tell-tale ticking sounds started up again, I decided it was time for us to part ways. Other than the air con, the FG put a smile on my face every time I drove it. The surge of torque from 1200rpm is phenomenal. Long live the mighty barra! PS: If Ford was still making the Falcon I would have bought another new one. I love sedans, and opted for a Lexus IS350 F Sport.
I think the FGX update was a great way to finish off this amazing line of vehicles and am so sad it sold so poorly. The front end was a great reflection of the global Ford look of the time, and the tail light treatment was amazing!!
I always liked the FGs, never owned one, when the FGX refresh came out I had to buy one. Liked it so much I bought another. Can't figure out why they didn't sell well either, I can't think of anything I'd rather be driving today.
In 2018, after "suffering" Japanese/Thai built utes, including 3 hiluxes, 4x2, 2.2 diesel, v6 single cab 4x4, 3.0 diesel DC then DMAX DC 4X4 and Triton 4x2 petrol for close to 30 years I bought an FG2 ute with steel tray. I bloody loved that thing. Unlike my previous utes it was powerful, handled, had great brakes, very comfortable (sorry mate, my FG had much more comfortable seats than our RAV4 eg) totally reliable had a reasonable amount of tech and could carry a decent amount of gear or load with little effect on performance. I sadly had to sell recently due to too many cars and not enough money😢. It's also so sad that Ford thought so little of its Australian arm that they allowed it to wither on the vine with little to no real investment or marketing since 2009. Oh and the Barra has to be the world's most underrated I6!
Heres a hot tip Jim, The XRT's have a fine mesh filter in the turbo oil line near the engine block. This filter is supposed to be removed in the first service and it there to catch finings and silica from the engine casting process. Ford are SUPPOSED to remove this filter, but almost never do. This is a common blockage point and cause of oil starvation. I took mine (06/06 BF Mk1.5) out at 115k KMs, and when I said goodbye to her at 180k KMs with a lazy 250kw atw, the turbo was in pristine knick.
I've had my FG MkII XR6 Turbo since new, have done just under 50k in it, in glorious condition. It's my absolute pride and joy. So reliable, the only thing ever wrong with it was the bloody ICC where the touchscreen failed to operate from delivery. But a replacement solved that, no other issues since. If you're thinking of getting one, bloody do so!
Throughout my whole childhood my dad has had a 2008 falcon wagon lpg. And he’s put 320,000kms on it. It drives beautifully and only getting rid of it now because we can’t find fuel for it anywhere.
I've owned a 2014 F6 manual for nearly 10 years, 130,000km, and it's been pretty faultless. Diff bushes have been the only really issue but after 2 replacements I just put the IMS diff hat on and it's solid since. I've modified it slowly over the years for a good balance of power, handling, braking, and reliability. Surprisingly capable on the track - got a fair few vids on my channel for anyone interested. Burns no oil, leaks nothing, looks mean, goes hard. It's the perfect car.
I miss my FG F6. I KO’d 4 diff bushes, twisted one tail shaft, blew one clutch and snapped 3 vent actuators on the AC… buuuttt I loved driving it every day. Always put a smile on my dial.
My dad had a Territory of this generation with the NA Barra 24v in South Africa, it was awesome. The only thing that caused issue was the front suspension. I much prefer this generation of tech - I cannot stand touch screens or ADAS, analogue is so much more better than all the current technological crap. The Barra is a legend too. I feel that new cars are far too disconnected and numb with zero appeal. The analogue feel of older cars is always going to appeal more.. great video.
I think it's awful manufacturers are moving away from physical buttons for things like climate control for a big touch screen thing. And it's not for convenience, it's clearly a cost-cutting measure. What happens when these screens go belly up.
Had a drive a few times of a 2010 G6E N/A, wow I was impressed with everything about the car. But the power of the Barra without turbo was amazing and made it fun to drive
Amazing if you mention you own an FG then the first thing people say is "is it a turbo" and when you say no they say "Oh you have to have a turbo" and I ask why but other than performance they can't answer. Where I do my most of my driving koalas and roos aren't impressed by a turbo car. So the NA Barra in the FG only has 261hp - 288lbs ft Torque so not bad for a non turbo car plus you have a choice of fuels E10, 91, 95 and 98. But with the turbo 98 and at a push 95 but not the other two.
I bought an XR6 Turbo manual brand new in 2005. with premium sound system. Red interior and red exterior. It had fantastic performance and great handling to deal with the performance. Easily one of the best practical super performance cars out there. And still is.
FG MK2 2012 owner here. Replaced serpentine belt, alternator, and at 200k replaced ignition coils, and spark plugs and acceleration sensor. Been an amazing car.
The FG was the missed opportunity from Ford Australia, the local market got sick of the taxi feel of these cars. In saying that you got a good car for what you paid for just don’t expect European quality. These are a good solid car and cheap to fix and mod but personally I would not pay $25k plus for one 10 years old. Great video again guys! ❤
missed** ZF 6 speed gearboxes can have a "milkshake" issue and bushings need to be checked prior to buying as they bad on a lot of these cars hope this helps!
Ok ... I've subscribed ... just to keep you guys happy. I love your channel. Great stuff. For the Falcon ... we hired a non-turbo version for our stay at Longreach in Queensland ... yes a family car being rented out in FWD territory. We had it two days, it got a flat tyre, the result of a rock puncturing the tyre and the alloy wheel. So we rang the rental company ... they didn't have a spare wheel (alloy) and so they gave us a VF Commodore instead. That sold us completely - the Commodore was a much better car to drive and live with for the rest of the stay. Having said that we had to be very careful where we took it as it was low and would bottom out on the country roads.
I have a FGII ex-HP car and drive it everyday to work. It has been tuned, 310kW at the rear and gives me 13.8l/100km. I love it and puts a smile on my face every time I press down my right foot.
Love it! Had a BA Turbo, FG Turbo and an FGX Turbo. Got rid of them all in time to get good re-sale as well. It's a shame the Aussie motor industry fell apart... :(
Ford and Holden were subsidised to the hilt by the Aussie taxpayer. In the end they were left high and dry making ridiculous gas guzzlers that cost too much
Another very accurate review! My NA series 1 XR6 has just clicked over 300K kms and the only thing replaced was the water pump, only because the plastic pulley came off. The roof line is sagging and I’m currently opening the drivers door from the outside! Still, best car I have ever owned and have always preferred the more conservative design compared to the commodore
The XR6 Turbo, XR8 & Holden V8 variants were the best cars ever manufactured in Australia. The Commodore SS was sold as a Pontiac G8, and my USA friends loved it. It was a performance car that actually handled corners/bends! These are worth a fortune now. I still have my 2015 V8 model, it has never missed a beat, and it is worth almost as a much as I paid for it brand new.
Overall mate a good review. Some things though to note. These cars are structural bulletproof as a chassis and very stable in corners and steer very very well for a car of its size. It's true what journo's many years ago said when they reviewed the xr6 turbo, the turn in and hold in and around corners feels like a lighter and smaller car. It isn't a WRX but you can still go quick around corners and hold it well. Just don't be thinking of track handling. The seats are good. They aren't super tight and feel more like lounge chairs with support. You never roll out of them. The xr6 turbo is the best of both worlds in that it is a true cruiser but you can go tight around corners on a highway if you choose or beat everyone in a straight line. Just have to look at the nose of the car so you don't oversteer in tight cornering If you get these cars out from their rear, they are a handful just due to their weight so recommend someone does a drift/RWD course if you choose to buy one of these vehicles. I'd say buy modified that has been done right. These cars are old so just replace stuff on your own. Easy to work on just big in size. I've replaced front and rear control arms, shocks, water pump, front crankshaft seal, serpentine belt and tensioner, rear tyres, bonnet struts and rear boot struts, expansion tank, radiator hoses (all genuine), crankshaft pulley and all fluids. Plus some interior bits that were broken and missing (glove box, glove box light and bracket) and valve cover resprayed. All installation (except tyres) done by me, home mechanic. If I did this on Japanese or European, parts alone would cost about $10K, on this it cost $3.7K in total for parts that will last the life of this car and its easy enough to install myself. THESE CARS RUST. RUST THAT YOU CAN'T SEE. Under the front guards along the weld seams at the chassis, rust can appear unfortunately. You can pull these guards off and respray to prevent further rust. Nothing you can really do, its the metal Ford used when they welded these cars together. Are they a great car? Yes. Are they fun to drive. OH YEAH. G6E Turbo doesn't come with Limited Slip Diff (a must for turbo falcons) RIDE: FG XR6 Turbo + 400rwkw @220,000kms, 6 speed auto. Std Brake setup. New parts and it drives so good. A few noises (interior) but nothing to be worried.
My dead stock 2012 FG II XR6 turbo did 12.9 @ 110mph at heathcote. With mild modification (tune injectors cat etc) it does 12.4 without me thrashing it at all. This car is a weapon.
Great video. My Falcon has all the bodywork and interior issue you bring up. Those are the weak spots. The mechanical bits are bombproof and can take a lot of punishment. The biggest problem by far for me is, as you mention, the lack of comfort. It is really disappointing for this type of car. My first Falcon was an EL sedan and that was the most comfortable car I have ever driven. The later Falcons dropped the ball for comfort imo. I still love my car though and Falcons in general as they are just honest, tough cars that just go on and on and are surprisingly easy and cheap to fix.
I've had a 2011 FG Falcon N/A XR6 since April 2021 and its been nothing but an amazing car. I have had a few issues with power steering and have had to replace the tailshaft mount and coupling but aside from that its been a fantastic car mine averages 9.2L per 10 ks. Done over 60,000 ks in the span of nearly 3 years and its never let me down.
I've a 2005 BA MKII XR6 Turbo advertised for sale right now due to lack of use. Six-speed manual transmission, original condition and 155k kms on the clock. Having watched this video, I think I'll take the ad down and hang onto it because whenever I do get behind the wheel it never disappoints.
I have a 2010 G6E Turbo. Aside from a water pump pulley it's been faultless. Goes like a shower of sh1t, is incredibly comfortable and I'll never part with it. The barra is a mighty engine!
Good video Adam I used to watch your channel all the time because I was on the lookout for a another/used car.I ended up buying a 2017 Toyota Yaris because of the good reviews Jim gave. Its a very economical car I was on the hunt for a more powerful car like an XR6 but they use too much fuel.
Hi from NZ. Purchased my 2003 BA Turbo black on black from new. Drove all over the country Nth and South Islands and still have it .I just couldn't part with it with 245000 kms on the click always garaged and fully serviced since new. Only up grade was Brembo Brakes up front .Always replaced tires with the Dunlop Sps .They stick like glue and give the car a soft ride with super grip. The old girl has had a few bonnet and frontal resprays and a new headliner ,other wise all original. Still a head turner looks like and drives like the rocket she is. Thanks Ford Australia .Aussie built ya can't play rugby but you built a winner hot rod with the Barra
I drove an FG taxi for many years. It started life as a Police Car before becoming a cab. For that it was fitted with an LP gas system. .When it was retired from Cab duites, with 740,000 Kms up and a replacement transmission and diff , it went on to a life as a private car. It's still on the road, with over 900,000 kms up and it still has the original engine. One item that most Taxi owners fitted to Falcons, irrespective of the model, was an aftermarket transmission cooler. It ensured extended life of the transmission, and by passed the factory cooler, which ran through the bottom radiator tank. A known weakness when the pipe going through the bottom tank would get a hole in it from electrolysis.
FGs werent cooled in the radiator, there was a heat exchanger bolted to the outside of the transmission... that could fail internally and milkshake the gearbox.
I'd love one. Just a couple months ago, I saw a Holden R8 Maloo here in North America and I really want to know how the hell that guy got around our 25 year import law. I'd probably buy the Ford Falcon cause Ford quit selling those here back in the 70s for some unknowable reason... We have lots of cars with LS engines like the Holden but we never got that Barra and it's a bloody shame. I thought I was going crazy when I saw that Maloo cause I'd never seen a genuine Aussie RHD Holden before. We got a few cars here like the Pontiac G8 and Chevy SS that were Commodores technically... But a real Aussie Ute, that's something special, I had to take a picture.
Trivia - from 2012 onward, the Falcon (and Territory) had improved corrosion resistance with additional seal and pre-coated steel panels, particularly in the engine bay. Whilst not perfect, it did rectify many of the rust issues seen in earlier models.
I bought a new XR50turbo ute, the XR50 was a special edition. I sold it at 30,000kms. It was hard riding and noisy and the novelty wore off. I had no issues with it and loved the tremendous power. The seats were too high. I had my fun with it and replaced it with something more comfortable and practical. There was only turbo lag when the motor was cold for the first few kilometres.
I have a fg turbo.i can get 7.1 liters per 100 on the freeway.the most comfortable leather seats I have sat on.on the other hand,I had sz territory, which had shocking seats.i can't believe they came from the same factory.
They are fantastic cars; I had an earlier BF FPV F6 Typhoon, it was a weapon, the only issue I had was the rear diff bush which was the weak point by design in the drive train. I had an AU XR6 VCT before the BF and a FG GS (Supercharged 5.0) after and I think the BF was my favourite, all super reliable and a lot of fun to drive, now I'm in a Ranger..... Lol.
I have a manual 2014 FG F6 owned from new. GREAT CAR! Can't fault it. It doesn't get flogged and still looks as good (if not better in my opinion) as it rolled off the factory floor. Replaced rear diff bushes, centre bearing in the Tailshaft and just general maintenance. All now serviced by myself (I have lost faith in mechanics and idiots that just want to joyride in it when they "service" it) and with 94,000kms on the clock. Totally stock, and still an absolute weapon. Will be a sad day if it ever has to be replaced because there is just nothing else out there on the market that even comes close to matching it.
I had an International Scout, put in for a service in the morning and just happened to walk down the street later that day, when I heard a screaming V8, looked up and there was my car drifting around a corner. I found out it was the apprentice taking it for a 'test' drive. I got a discount off the servicing cost, when picking it up
@gradesixrapidsonly8453 here's one better. Dropped the F6 off for a vibration complaint at a driveshaft business, and went and played golf. Went and picked the car up in the afternoon and took it home still vibrating it's guts out. The misses told me of a friend that was at a shop near the highway saying I was in a hurry driving my car down the highway. The misses told her friend I wasn't even with my car. Checked the dashcam footage, and old mate was "test driving" my car down the highway at 182km/h, and showing off in tiktok videos while doing it.
Two main problems. Bad brakes and an aftermarket brake setup helps a lot. Main problem is that the gearbox cooler sits in the radiator. They wear through then puts coolant into the gearbox. Best thing to do is to put an external gearbox intercooler on.
negative... the gearbox cooler is attached to the gearbox and both ATF and coolant flows through it. this is to keep the gearbox fluid at the right temp. Unfortunately this cooler can crack internally just like the ones that were in the radiator on earlier falcons with the BTR 4 speed.
@@UnimpressedAussie I had the external cooler fitted, which meant no ingress of coolant into the gearbox if cracked. Had it done by a specialist gearbox shop. Never had a problem with it and it is a known weekness that has cost plenty of gearboxes if left stock.
I have had a 2010 G6ET with a tune for 270KW's - with 1000cc injectors - and currently have a 2009 G6ET where the previous owner did many mods including e85, which I took to the tuner and got his opinion on - if one you look at is modified, I would ask the tuner - if not looked after, the ZF transmission can have flaring issues. Another thing is the dreaded milkshake, Ford's auto cooler connectors can corrode and the auto fluid will mix with the radiator coolant and basically goodbye electronics in the ZF.
I have an FG XR6T ute, tray back now after it was rear ended. 420 000km mostly country on the clock service every10k. Yes it has had a few of the interior issues you mention all repaired along the way at little expense, Turbo replaced. due to wear with new improved standard one. The. motor still runs sweet, auto has been serviced twice still does everything well. Diff will be overhauled in near future. I get can get 10.5 lt per 100 if i baby it 12.3 lt is avg I do have builders racks on the tray which has made a difference to the fuel consumption avg. Updated the suspension when its need to be over the years .fixed some paint issues as time has moved on . People that do get to ride in it cant believe how well it looks, still rides and performs for the age. Yeah I could buy a new car but still felling it with this one, I dead set still love driving it. I could go on but have all ready long live the XR6 Barra T.
Been following your channel since the beginning. Since you have access to the Jim’s garage, why not life up the cars up and have a commentary about car’s underpinning and chassis such as Savagegeese, Sarah tuned channels in overseas. You could feature Jim a bit more in that section. It will be a unique point as most reviewers only go skin deep
If I could have any Falcon, it'd be a 1988-1991 Argentine version. They were literally the 1962 Falcon with a 1980s style grille and rear fascia tacked on. It fascinates me that they kept building the thing with very few changes for 30 years.
I'd definitely have an fg-x, not the Argentine version, falcons are comfy but the VF Commodore is much nicer an interior for tall people and it comes as a wagon with irs unlike falcons.
FG Falcons are so underrated! I've owned and still own many Falcons, my daily is a 33 year old EA, I have a mint 1981 Aussie Ford LTD and an FG XR6 Turbo I've owned for 6 years. Amongst most of my Aussie Fords, the FG has been absolutely brilliant they certainly do not drive and act as old as they are! They make better family / long distance touring cars, they were built for this big brown land unlike anything else sold today. Long live the Falcon! 💪🏽
@@lobsterwhisperer7932 Honestly they cop a lot of flack, the early ones weren't so good very hit and miss, the series 2 however were muchly improved (mine is Series 2) and as a mechanic honestly working on other vehicles makes me appreciate my trusty Falcons even more. And as you said imo the EA drives beautifully and definitely well styled etc for its era.
been waiting for this video from the time redriven at 85k subs, i did owned ex patrol NA BARRA. didnt, go wrong with that .FE was good to 10 or 11/100 at city driving... its a bloody TRUE AUSSI LEGEND. its a car thats properly made for AU.........PS its got 800000ks on it same damn engine &transmission
I've had both an NA xr6 and a turbo fg and loved them. I never had any issues. Great video as usual, keep it up. Also I'll add that the xr6 turbo's had an LSD and the G6E turbo did not.
Great job guys absolutely spot on A mate had that model XR6 turbo stock auto and I had a E series HSV R8 stock manual and that thing of his was bloody quick … My HSV was blood and guts flat to the boards just trying to keep up with him. Keep up the great work . Absolute Legends
After 2016 all Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo became 2nd hand. When buying one, do all " Fluids and Filter Changes " ASAP. That includes engine oil, oil filter with OEM sump plug, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, cabin filter, rear diff oil, ATF and filter with Torque Converter Flush, brake fluid flush, Coolant drain with new thermostat, new battery and new tyres. Then change them regularly. When I bought my XR6 Turbo in 2014 the Ford Dealers didn't change the fluids and filter regularly and when I took it to Garage to do ATF with filter and Rear Diff oil change it came out Thicc and Burned.
My FG Xr6 2009 model done 286,000km. So far no problem just regular service. Either I’m lucky or either these Aussie brands of cars were built to last forever. Knowing some the taxis clocked minimum 700km 800km I think using it for private it will last longer
I have a 2009 G6E, non turbo but still relevant for some things. Love the car as a driving car, but problems do add up after a while. Just hit 200k on the ODO and have replaced all bushes in the suspension, need to do the ball joints, need to do the uni near the diff, need to work out why no-one can stop my tyres (all round) from wearing on the inside edge and needing replacement after 12 - 15,000 Kms. Also, the HVAC system blender doors has a plastic part that is fragile and on mine has broken, which does require the dash to come out. Expensive fix if you don't have the knowledge or area/tools to do which I don't so it is staying broken for the moment. The interior leather is not the best quality and has worn badly and I did have the roof lining sag issue which required it to be replaced. Still, my second favourite car ever (first was a 5 litre AUII LTD) and love the way it drives. Yes, it's not the turbo, but the fuel economy is so much better and still have enough power and torque.
I never liked Falcons back in the day, i always loved my little 1.6L Mk2 Escorts and the 2.0L Mk5 Cortinas, those engines are absolutely amazing IMO.. Just a block of metal and those little 1.6L OHV Escort engines ran so amazing when all tuned perfectly and the tappet clarence is done right (same with the 2.0 OHC Cortina engines), they ran so smooth and almost run forever. The one i drove for over 9 years had 17 previous owners and 14 of them were females lol, it was a 1978 4-door Mk2 1.6L.. I hate how they make engines these days, too much to go wrong and too much plastic where it shouldn't be.
I'd also mention the door cards can fall off, the buttons on the steering wheel fall off and the intercooler piping can blow off if you pump it with boost.
A friend had one as a company car and he let me take it for spin- very impressed. Very strong and smooth power, and quiet with that big turbo. The guys that engineered and built those things must still be crying that their creation is no longer produced, as am I.
I pains me that Ford never brought the excellent Barra engine back to the US (it was originally based on the 3rd gen small block inline six Ford that started way back in the 60s as base economy engines). My favorite slow vehicle I ever owned was my 88 F150- 5 speed 300 6 2wd. The 300 6 was an absolute joy to drive even though slow. So smooth and just a waft of effortless torque. On that note- why didn't Ford bring the Aussie Falcon to the US market? Looks like they considered the idea back in 07 and 09 to replace the US panther car. But.. the issue was fleets (cops, taxis). They loved the Panther Crown Vic because they knew it inside ad out, it was extremely durable, and some even had frame straighteners so they could properly fix almost any curb shunt. Any change was an issue- those fleet sales were probably what kept the Falcon going for so long in OZ too. Fleets do care about fuel consumption, but they care more about Total Cost to Own. A car that last a very long time and doesn't have much downtime for repairs can offset higher fuel consumption easily. *Wish the Falcon was sold in some LHD country so I could import one. I can't drive RHD here.. just can't do it. JDM is dead. Lol.
Can’t believe you are pushing 200k subscribers! Feels like you were creaming your pants at 30 thou this time last year. Incredible effort guys, and really useful information as well
Gotta disagree about the styling, Holdens look like they're trying too hard with all those non-functional ducts and stupid spoilers - the Fords at least have a bit of dignity about them. The seats in B series are way better even though they look similar. I love the seats in the B series but I can't get comfy in an FG either. That Aerpro stereo facia might give you more functionality but jeez it's ugly... Overall though, you're exactly right. They were a fabulous thing and it's really desperately sad that we don't make anything like that anymore.
I have to disagree with you on the styling. Except for the Senator, you are right about too many spoilers but the Holden's styling was very good. There were not too many fake vents and the wing was quite small if you didn't option the large version. Ford's styling went down hill from AU onwards. I find the BA, BF and FG boring and they are definitely are sleeper. But each to their own.
@@tomnewham1269 the problem I have with HSV was it felt that what ever was in ( style wise) at the time they put on the car and that dates it badly were FPV was very subtle. for example I see a HSV going down the road I'm like whatever, FPV on the other hand I think nive. That being said the late model Monaro have aged very well
Great video i own an XR6 TURBO 2012 Mk11 got it at 70000 klm done 149000 and have only done diff bushes $600 plugs $120 and service every 10000 klm what a great car and goes like shit of a shanghai with bigger injectors and pump im 58 and loving it
I had the same feeling with the seating issue. But once you figure out how to adjust the seat correctly it’s a game changer. Ford was to poor to afford premium adhesives, badges fall off, roof sag, rubber edge’s falling off.
Love my G6ET. I never get tired of spanking Commodores. You forgot to mention the ZF milkshake. Factory trans cooler fails and stuffs the transmission. Expensive to fix.
Would love one. My BA XT Falcon is on 550,000km on the clock and it still on it original engine & transmission. Hell yeah I get another one, specially with a turbo.
IMO the 2010 FG Series 1 - 50th Anniversary XR6 is the real looker here - snowflake wheels/XR50 decals & carbon fibre spears/piano black interior/partial leather seats etc dresses up the interior a lot! 2300kg/towball 230kg towing capacity, best in world for a sedan - is icing on the cake. IMO FG Series 2 (in this video) went backwards in the front end and interior appearance 🦋
In 320,000kms. We have experienced all the problems mentioned (no mechanical problems) but they’re cheap and easy fixes. Awesome cars!
They can have oil pump issues

@@nikoniko9251the old SS is a great car. I've always had valiants but the SS has been just as reliable. Just had to get an Fg turbo, seems like a good car so far.
@@petergoodwin2465 that’s right mate , and nice how’s the gig treating you
This is my car!
Pin this!
A great example!! Mine's red and before I owned it, it trundled up and down the Gwydir, Newell and Carnarvon highways as a NSW Police hwy patrol car.
I wish all the owners of these cars did a little write up like this
There’s only one person who needs to like it mate - the person who owns and drives it 👍
Is that whole centre stack Aerpro? I''ve never seen anything like that in an FG or FG-X.
I have a g6e turbo with a lot of mods (410wkw) even without tc it wont spin 3rd unless I get on the brake
I have a 2012 630hp fg with 340000km on it on e85 and still puts a smile on my face🎉
Figures from Ford Australia indicate:
91 RON is 195 kW and 391 Nm
95 RON is 201kW and 409 Nm
98 RON is 208kW and 420 Nm
Not too shabby for an Australian designed and built Engine.
Sad.
That's odd, they seem to be a fair few in Brisbane
300 million tax payer dollars every year, isn't even enough to keep either Holden or Ford domestic manufacturing afloat. Practically an alternative Centrelink to keep the racial hierarchy strong, similar to how tradies are so overpaid.
@justinoberle7818 he is talking about the manufacturing these brand cars in Australia. We don't manufacture them here anymore
You're an honorary Australian now.
and now unfortunately we're getting chinese crap cars imported over here now with the lack of manufacturing because our government for whatever reason froths over everything china
I own 26 Falcons which includes 11 turbo Falcons from BA to FGX and unlike everyone else that traded them in , I kept all of mine. These engine will do a million untouched if serviced every 7,500k . How do I know because my BF turbo Ute has done 933,000km and counting.
How do you get time to drive the other 25 cars? 933,000km is nearly 20,000 hours of average driving.
@@chrisgregory4796 I collect Falcons especially XR’s and turbos. As for the BF Turbo it’s a delivery ute for my mechanical/ freight company and does more like 50k a year. I haven’t bothered to replace it as it doesn’t give me any problems . That’s the things with Falcons , if looked after properly they will just keep going and going .
you are super fortunate :)
26 is crazyyy, can i have one😂
Yeah saying 4 or 500000 ks makes me wonder what he knows. If it was a toyota he be saying it does 5 or 6 trillion ks.
I've owned a BF, two FGs. Still have my FG XR6. Super low ks. Falcon's always handle and drove extremely well. For a large car they have excellent cat. The turbocharged models are very quick and capable.
Interesting, I always thought they were insanely nose heavy.

From fleet purchasers and taxi’s, to highway patrol… there’s a reason this series of Falcon were more popular. 😜
That's how they got the numbers up. Adelaide had commodores for cop cars and taxis. 🤷
I liked the rear end of the FGX, the front not so much, it almost looks like it's not finished properly.
Long live the King.
The mighty barra turbo!
I honestly would buy a falcon. These things are Australia's icon and should have more love and attention over the suvs of today.
I had ba RTV Barra Ute. Lifted with diff locker. Was a awesome work Ute
Im 7 turbos in and just discovered that mine wasn't replaced when it was forged built like they clamed it was. 😅
Mate had the same 450k. Incredible car and people knock Australian cars😅.
Quite a few BA - FG Falcons hitting 1 million KMs, honestly great cars.
A Falcon on gas was once the Internet’s answer to all car questions.
I agree..Analog = old school but also less to go wrong and less computers getting in the way. Much more engaging drive
One of the best written set of vids on the tube. That pointer is funny, too😂
I have one. I love it so much. Nearly 300000km and not one problem, just regular maintenance.

ZF 6 speed gearboxes can have a "milkshake" issue
and bushings need to be checked prior to buying as they bad on a lot of these cars
hope this helps!
Yes, they can have a catastrophic failure due to left-over swarf from the casting process.
Owned an XRT for 10 years. Still in love!
It didn’t fall apart it was deconstructed abandoned by Australian and murder off..
The FGX Turbo could have appreciated given enough time?
@@alanngli FGX is terrible.
Ford and Holden were subsidised to the hilt by the Aussie taxpayer. In the end they were left high and dry making ridiculous gas guzzlers that cost too much

Such a shame these didn’t sell sufficiently to keep Ford manufacturing in Aus. We are a country of SUV’s
Just have to look at the nose of the car so you don't oversteer in tight cornering
If you get these cars out from their rear, they are a handful just due to their weight so recommend someone does a drift/RWD course if you choose to buy one of these vehicles.
OH YEAH. G6E Turbo doesn't come with Limited Slip Diff (a must for turbo falcons)
RIDE: FG XR6 Turbo + 400rwkw @220,000kms, 6 speed auto. Std Brake setup. New parts and it drives so good. A few noises (interior) but nothing to be worried.
I have a BF xr6 and the thing has 290000km and it still drives like a dream. Amazing cars
Owned a T56 manual BF XR6T ute and a ZF BF2 XR6T sedan. Incredible drivelines, horrendous build quality 😄 loved them as much as I hated them 7/10
I've a 2005 BA MKII XR6 Turbo advertised for sale right now due to lack of use.
I'd personally be very happy with an NA G6E but a turbo would be great.
T56 F6 RSPEC here. Original owner…, I still love it every time I take it for a drive.
Glad to know that others find the seats a bit awkward, thought it was just me. My EB II's seats are spot on, though!
Love the 5% Tint 😂
I miss the Aussie Fords. Had Fairlane's and LTD's in the past and they were super smooth cars!
Sincerely, I would purchase a falcon. Compared to modern SUVs, these items are Australia's symbol and need more love and care.
Well, the project name for the development of the Barra turbo was seagull, because it was going to shit on everything.
Should have called it duck or Pigeon then they Shit on heaps more stuff
I had a bf rtv Ute factory lpg I loved it the barra is the best 6 cylinder engine ever made in Australian
Finally you took the plunge to review the legendary Falcon FG!! I have the XR6 N/A variant and i love every bit of it. Long live the Barras!
The Argentine version is amazing that they didn't use the Australian 4.1 alloy head.
great review!
Would love to see a BA/BF XR8 review at some point. There'a plenty out there but love how Adam and Jim review cars.
AU XR 6 Tickford series2 .650000klms best handling car I ever had. Also very good at showing dual cabs how slow they are at going uphill.
Those AU Tickford XR6 had a brilliant chassis Double Wishbone front Double Wishbone rear suspension set up with anti roll bars pity about the looks
Im with you on the seating position. Every falcon ive sat in from the ef onwards i could never get used to it unfortunately
When i first saw the EA Falcon on the road back in 1988 it blew my mind how futuristic it looked compared to other cars of its time.
Us Brits have Escort and Sierra Cosworth and ST Focus’s. I’d love an Aussie fast Ford !!!
been waiting for this video from the time redriven at 85k subs, i did owned ex patrol NA BARRA. didnt, go wrong with that .FE was good to 10 or 11/100 at city driving... its a bloody TRUE AUSSI LEGEND. its a car thats properly made for AU.........PS its got 800000ks on it same damn engine &transmission
I've had both an NA xr6 and a turbo fg and loved them. I never had any issues.
Great video as usual, keep it up.
Also I'll add that the xr6 turbo's had an LSD and the G6E turbo did not.
Great job guys absolutely spot on
A mate had that model XR6 turbo stock auto and I had a E series HSV R8 stock manual and that thing of his was bloody quick … My HSV was blood and guts flat to the boards just trying to keep up with him. Keep up the great work . Absolute Legends
About time you guys had a falcon on the channel
My son bought an FG mk2 xr6 auto for his 1st car. Ford blue. 150,000km. Very easy, nice, smooth car to drive.
My FG Xr6 2009 model done 286,000km. So far no problem just regular service. Either I’m lucky or either these Aussie brands of cars were built to last forever. Knowing some the taxis clocked minimum 700km 800km I think using it for private it will last longer
Depends om maintance use
Lol.
JDM is dead? JDM is damned expensive here... It's right at the top for enthusiasts.
i own 3 falcon utes from the au to fg, amazing cars! wouldn't ever buy anything else unless I need another body style
The 50th anniversary G6e turbo has special seats that are just fantastic and won international awards for the leather trim.
Spot On.
That being said the late model Monaro have aged very well
Agree! Holden put all the fancy muscles on it and completely overdid it. Much prefer the conservative look of the ford
Yessss! Finally this video! I’ve been waiting for years
Love my G6ET. I never get tired of spanking Commodores.
You forgot to mention the ZF milkshake. Factory trans cooler fails and stuffs the transmission. Expensive to fix.
Owners fail to service the car - leaving dirty coolant which causes electrolysis and rusting out of the coolant pipes.
Have to disagree even with regular maitenance with coolant changes and checking the condition of coolant they still can milkshake
Yes, have a FPV F6 which is a keeper. Smile on my face everytime I drive it. Classic Australian car.
Would love one. My BA XT Falcon is on 550,000km on the clock and it still on it original engine & transmission. Hell yeah I get another one, specially with a turbo.
Still have my GT 2013 and love it …. Sold the FGX 6 sprint as I preferred the FPV GT.
Only 20,000 km so will probably outlast me .
Have a G6e Turbo laid up in the shed. Since new, over 90,000k's it has averaged 12.1L /100km, majority town (not city) driving.
That Barra engine is the holy grail of tuners, particularly in the US. Plenty of vids from those lucky Americans that got their hands on one
I love my 09 xr6. I’ve owned Holdens and Nissans prior.. my Falcon is by far the best car I’ve had.. Fords all day 🎉
IMO the 2010 FG Series 1 - 50th Anniversary XR6 is the real looker here - snowflake wheels/XR50 decals & carbon fibre spears/piano black interior/partial leather seats etc dresses up the interior a lot!
2300kg/towball 230kg towing capacity, best in world for a sedan - is icing on the cake.
IMO FG Series 2 (in this video) went backwards in the front end and interior appearance 🦋
The styling is subtle to hide an iron fist in a velvet glove
