I came to Falcon late after owning basically everything else for decades. I’d never, ever, thought of myself as driving a Ford! It was a matter of elimination that led me there. I figured out my requirements, my price point, my cost of running etc and did a lot of research. I’m now a very happy owner of a 2010 wagon running on gas who actually, for the first time in years, enjoys going for a drive.
I found driving feedback was best in AU, B series dropped off in fit and finish but got the better driveline, and FG got the quality control back and felt most ‘complete’ but gained weight and size to the point you had to go a fair bit faster to have as much fun. My 2c after owning each but I’d prefer any of them over a new car payment!
The best car I ever owned was an FG XR6. it was super quick with the Barra 195 and beautiful to drive. I found out a few weeks after I got it that it was an ex-detectives police car. I had an AU II Forte before the FG and it was a nice car but I always wanted the FG. Unfortunately I had to sell the FG due to a few of life's unexpected problems but if I can ever go back to a falcon it would be either the FG or FG-X.
I just bought a mint AUIII VCT Ghia for the same reason, and the double wishbone IRS is the only decent IRS ever made here and only available on the AU.
BF2. Far better than BA, and miles better (fit & finish wise) to the FG, FG2 & FG X. I owned a brand new BF2 XR8 manual, and the fit, finish, NVH et al is far, Far better than my current FG2 XR6T. The redeeming features on the FG series was the drivetrain; if Falcons from B series onwards had used the AU3 IRS, it would have been miles better as the Control Blade system tram lines badly, and was made to a budget.
I own a BF Mark2 XR8 Manual ute it has 180000 on it put new coils, clutch, ball joints, brakes and it's running great I service it regularly and she's awesome on the highway with the six speed manual.

Just seen this vid as a former au 1 xr8 owner and driven a few series 1 au xr6's,.the series 1 au's have awfully light steering to the point they feel extremely nervous at speed, the au 2 xrs are much better in terms of steering feel, i wouldn't ever consider an au series 1 ever, the sweet spot in aussie cars is the ve series 1 sv6, the sv6 has the awesome red dash and its steering is sublime, I can clearly see why they said in the wheels mag at the ve launch that the steering is as good or better than any bmw, and the ve feels like its been built like a bank vault compared to the ba. Important to note that the ve v8s lose the incredible steering feel of the 6's due to the heavier engine up front (my ve2 ss ute) lost the beautiful steering feel of the ve sv6. The vf commodre also loses the beautiful ve steering by going electric. Oh and a demo bf xr6 i once drove at a dealer displayed some of the nervous steering at speed that the au had but no where near as bad.
To be honest really any Falcons from the late 60's + till 2016 are all good in their own way.
