- The conclusion of how to install the Akishop PCB from www.focusattack.com into a PlayStation 3 FightStick. Part 1: • How To Install an Akis...
This video is aimed at beginners, and is therefor rather lengthy (2 parts) due to long explanations. The goal is to help you understand the decisions and process of the modification, so that you can apply it to future projects and actually learn something, rather than just following along.
Wiring guides:
6 wire ribbon cable:
------------------------------
1 (red) - L1
2 - X
3 - O
4 - R2
5 - L2
6 - Ground
5 wire ribbon cable:
------------------------------
1 (red) - Start
2 - Select
3 - Square
4 - Triangle
5 - R1
Joystick harness:
------------------------------
1 - Black = Ground
2 - Green = Right
3 - Yellow = Left
4 - Orange = Up
5 - Red = Down
If you chose to use the stock harness w/ 5 black wires, the ground pin/wire is the one closest to the top (or back) of the stick.

Thanks! I just linked all my related videos together in the descriptions. I appreciate the suggestion.
Yes! Along with the Joytron Paewang Revolution, the only other PCB I know of that has both PS3/PC & 360 capability built in. Most of the time a 'dual-mod' consists of adding PS3 functionality (with a separate PCB) to a 360 PCB. This is everything in 1.
I have tested them and finally found the right pinout.thanks for your answer.
@RodmanIsASadPanda Yes. It is basically the same exact electronics from the SE. The "punch down" as I like to call it has either the PlayStation or Xbox button labels on it depending on which version of the stick you have.
@SWFfear4 There is an Install Primer that you can download from the Focus Attack product page that has many wiring diagram examples for different combinations of button count.
It shows for 11 buttons (8 attack, 3 function) you could have Turbo & Back/Select be the same button, Start, and Guide/Home.
For 10 buttons (8 attack, 2 function) you could have Start, Turbo/Guide/Home.
So, I'm thinking yes, you can have 1 button be PS/Xbox/Turbo.
@robytrice22 Yes! In fact, it will be much simpler because you don't have to do any goofy soldering to hook up the home and turbo buttons. Just add some 24mm buttons to your custom stick and use them instead.
Great Stuff. My only criticism is to put links to the other videos that are part of each series
This Akishop is from the first run, and I don't have any experience with the headset PCB that's an option with the new/current Akishop PCB. I don't see why you couldn't use it, but you'd have to drill a tiny hole (around 1/8"? measure!). The TE frame may have an area for you to mount the headset PCB to, but if not just epoxy it or use some strong glue.
@daidouji The PCBs between the SE and TE sticks should be the same. The only difference is the case. The case is smaller so you'll have to find a suitable mounting position for the Akishop PCB inside the smaller SE.
Cool man. Thanks. I think I am gonna give it a shot. Great video.
The Akishop PCB is a total replacement for any stock PCB. So, it will work with ANY stick.
The only reason you would want to SWAP the PCB is if you have a PS3 stick and want to add 360 functionality. Similarly, if you have a 360 stick and want to add PS3 functionality, you might use a 'dual-mod' PCB like Toodle's Cthulhu or ChImp that is added along side your stock PCB.
A Cthulhu won't really get you anywhere unless your PS3 TE PCB is fried. The Cthulhu only ads PS3 (or I guess multi-console if you want things other than 360).
The problem with the PS3 Mad Catz sticks is that the main PCB and turbo/home functionality are all on one board. In the 360, it's split and connected with ribbon cables, so it's easy to tap into those. Unfortunately you're only route with the PS3 is to solder. I guess you could add 24mm buttons somewhere on the case.
Yeah, the PCBs are similar if not the same. The only difference would be the physical ones from the design differences between the two cases.
@DaDoppen Yes, actually. Excellent idea!
I unfortunately never got an Akishop PS360+, from what i've seen it's just as easy or easier than the previous version (which I show above). You're basically replacing the stock Mad Catz PCB(s) with the new PS360+ PCB. You'd have to do the same tip I show in the video to get access to the home + turbo buttons. There are some PDF install guides on the Focus Attack product page, but nothing spells that part out to you.
It should, they're not the same, but similar. The VS has some plastic covers over the PCBs too. Look in my channel. I have 3 videos on the VS.
Sure, can you have HitBox send me a stick? ;)
The process is pretty simple. Remove the whatever PCB is in there. Put in the Akishop PCB. Connect up the wires to the buttons. Everything is labeled, so I'm not sure where you could mess it up. Send me a message or a reply letting me know any specific questions you might have and I'll try to help.
I use an X-ACTO knife and use the point to try and dig in and pull it up.
@specialk122 They do not. You are basically only using the button presses from the stock PCB, everything else goes through the Akishop.
It would be nice if there was a way to connect up the LEDs to the Akishop PCB since it does include turbo functionality of its own. Maybe in a future version?
Very good guide! Just one thing, if you never disconnect the wire from the joystick, you can prevent it facing the wrong way, and being connected poorly, right?
I think you could probably Google search 'mad catz te soul edition pinout' and find a graphic of which wires are which. You could also use a multimeter and test the contacts to figure out which is which. I have a Soul Edition and can probably do it for you. Message me if you weren't able to find this on your own and I'll help.
I see. The only reason I'm modding it is because my laptops mobo doesn't support it and this MC Cthulhu is widely supported and has a 30day return if it doesn't work. I may look into possibly soldering it then. Though apparently it can emulate the home button feature by pressing start+select simultaneously. I'm still not sure how to connect turbo with it, but I don't have to have turbo. I've found a soldering iron and rosen for about 15$ on amazon which isn't too bad.
Ok Awesome! Got everything open thanks to your vids. However, seems like there is 2, 6 pin ribbons instead of a 6 and a 5. Any idea what the wiring diagram is? Can't seem to find it online. Thanks for the help!
Thank you. That worked great.
Another question: I'm a newb that's installing a Cthulhu PCB into my PS3 SF4 TE so that it will work with my laptop and PS3. It claims soldering isn't needed for this kind of mod. I don't really want to solder mostly because I don't own a tool for it and I don't want to spend more money to fix this issue. According to your video it seems this is required in order to make my home button/turbo work. Is there another way to workaround this?
Are you familiar with the ps360+?
How easy is that to install into an existing MadCatz stick?
Can you post a picture of the wiring of the Home and turbo butons?
I have a Madcatz Te Round 2 and I'm intalling a PS360+. Thank you.
may i know how/ where did you put the ribbon cables? can you send me a picture where did you put that? thanks
If the led are blinking it is because your usb connection is bad. It happened to me too. Im having trouble hooking up the buttons, plus their is no turbo spot on my akishop. Im trying to hook up a te soul edition so i have 2 branch of 6 wire and only one has a red wire. Any suggestions?
I just got my ps360+ today and i hooked it up,for some reason the only thing happening is that the 1p and 4p leds keep blinking on the pcb and my ps3 won't recognize the stick.
Any thoughts?
Hi, thanks for the video.
I have a fight stick pro. Can i follow your video ?
I recently bought the tekken 6 hori stick for PS3 and the usb receiver wont work anymore. No light in it while plugging it to the usb port. Is this the best solution for making it work via USB cable?
What do you use to remove the glue that's on the screws?
subbed! :)
IS THERE ANY REASON WHY I WOULD NEED TO CHANGE THE ORIGINAL PCB. WHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE?
im having trouble finding the home button in my round 2 mad catz can you help?
can you use this pcb when making an arcade stick from scratch
how would i install the head set pcb to the ps3 madcatz te with the akishop ps360? or can it even have a head set?
Hey Donovan,i'm going to dual mod my ps3 mcz Te wityh padhacking, could you pls make a clair video of that,i want to maintain the use of the home and turbo buttons, also the thing about "setting triggers to neutral" bothers me,have to do this too or it doesnt matter since i wanna keep using LB RT .....
Does this work the same with TE VS? I heard the pcbs are the same but i wanted to confirm
Is this PS360 both a ps3 pcb and xbox 360 pcb. I dont have a pcb in my round 1.
Is there anyway I can install the Akishop PCB in a HRAP3?
I ordered the ps360+ but doesn't have a turbo spot to screw in....what can I do about that? Is this one an upgraded pcb then the one you have? I see you're connecting yours to a turbo slot
+ae86miami The PS360+ does not have turbo support, sorry.
can you use a psx and usb cable at the same time or do you have to switch id everytime?
This Akishop is the original. I don't have any knowledge about the new multi console variety. However, I don't see why you couldn't have both hooked up to the PCB. I would only plug the PSX or USB end into 1 console at a time though.
Hey there. How on Earth did you just 'plug' in the USB in the PS360+? I had to solder the ends of mine after cutting.

This is the older model, not the +.
Oh I see. Thanks for reply
Should be the same as this original TE. You can send me a direct message through You Tube with more details about what's not working and I can try and help.
Hey if anyone does this to their 360 fight sticks I will buy the original pcbs from the fight stick
IS THERE ANY REASON WHY I WOULD NEED TO CHANGE THE ORIGINAL PCB. WHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE?
