The one thing that people always forget with locks is that a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. The maximum effectiveness for any lock is for it to be easier for a thief to break the container instead.
Great incremental testing on the safe. You could see the principle of how a blast works - exerting force against less resistance (the air), vs. the door. Next time, put the fire crackers on as you did, but put the safe face on the ground, so you ave the firecracker between the ground and the safe door. I'm thinking 3 firecrackers at most would blow that door that way. More force will be channeled towards the door.
For any true beginner, and just a good lockpicking tool, you should grab some Lishi picks. I know you mentioned LPL and his brand Covert Instruments sells some good ones. They help because they make sure you know where the pick is at all times & they let you decode the lock once its open.
I recently had a locksmith out to rekey an old lock where the key had been lost. He used a Lishi tool from Covert Instruments to open the lock so he could disassemble it to rekey it. I got a chuckle out of that.

Way I figure it, locks are like armor for whatever you're trying to keep safe. And just like armor, there's degree of protection. Yeah, a truly determined thief will always find a way break a lock, but most thieves are opportunists. Your average thief will ALWAYS go for the unlocked door over the locked door because it's easier. So a lock is less to keep your stuff thief proof and more to act as thief deterrent, with different grades of locks offering different levels of resistance
Even most lockpickers will tell you that you don't need some unpickable nightmare of a lock in most circumstances - you pick the right lock for your purposes. If you're locking and unlocking something multiple times a day and the lock is in an area with plenty of witnesses then you don't want some cumbersome heavy duty lock that is a lockpickers nightmare - you'd be much better off with a more simple lock that is easy and fast to use because odds are nobody is going to try and pick it even if they can.
Yeah, it's often enough if you're not the most convenient and tempting opportunity around. Like I've got an old beat up looking bike with a lock that's probably worth more than the bike itself. I'm sure that someone determined could still open it pretty quickly but why would they bother when there is basically always a shinyer bike with a worse lock in close proximity?
It may be relatively easy to get through most locks, but that doesn't mean they're useless. They deter opportunistic criminals, and non-criminals. It's much more of a commitment to break open a locked box to see what's inside, than it is to see that it's unlocked and take a peek. This means people are much less likely to do it, even if they know how to open locks already.
I have a feeling that the groups of 5/6 firecrackers didn't combust- most of the explosive material just got spread out before it could combust- that's why with home made versions of this use steel pipe, never PVC. For this, wrap the bundle in a roll or two of duck tape as tightly as possible- that'd probably allow it to fully combust.
Or just take a thick pipe, fill it up with previously said match heads, and weld it shut. Drill the hole for a fuse, and voila - a self made 19 century grenade (bomb). Although, these weren't made out of pipes, but still - would work just fine (For those wondering - no, I don't make IEDs)

Right. No-one has ever claimed that locks are impregnable. The point is just to put off a particular level of thief, with "particular level" being basically proportionate to the value of goods being protected. The cheap lock in this video is the kind used to, say, secure clothes in a gym locker. Lol I got arrested when I was 19. I simply opened the handcuffs barehanded by jiggling them while applying pressure. The funny thing is that should've been the end of it since I was still in the back of a squad car, but apparently the window regulator was shot because after a couple kicks the back window just SHOOP dropped straight down into the door, letting me crawl out and bolt. Cops were stuck in traffic at a red light so they were kinda screwed. Not sure what happened but they didn't even try to catch me.
A key safe outside a house is easy to defeat…. But you can smash a window on the same house and gain entry to the house in about 1 second. So if you want to burgle the house ignore the key safe, and smash a window, it’s far quicker, and works every time.. . . .
That safe is likely a lever lock. Your key, as it's turning with the various heights, shifts a series of plates into position. The plates each have a hole and channel in the middle of them, with the latch passing through the hole on each. When the plates are properly aligned with each other, the channels line up to create a pathway for the latch to release through. Still pickable, just a different arrangement and geometry of the mechanism inside.
The padlock in the matchstick video one is probably one thats made from pot metal (cheap weak version of cast iron) thats painted brass colour, and the core is made of plastic with nylon locking pawls. The fire melts the mechanism.
7:45 Handcuffs. You can also insert the paper clip between the teeth of the ring and the locking mechanism, pushing the mechanism teeth down and separating them from the ring teeth. A wider, flatter piece of metal often works better for this.
after recommendation from LPL with not one but TWO videos on the kryptonite evolution series 4 bike chain lock I got that one - and although it does seem a quite secure lock it fails at bad weather: the disc retainer cylinder is already problematic and due to rather tight tolerances if it gets below freezing the lock just completely .. well .. locks up and can't be opened with the key anymore - so, as it's winter right now here - now my bike is permantly locked to the pole at my front door and although I do have the key I can't unlock it due to the lock is frozen - and I guess waiting till it thaws it will then rust shut ... so yea, the kryptonite is quite a good look - but only for inside use defeating its purpose as a bike chain lock
That firecracker you have in the video is called Megatron. It have 5 grams of gun powder in it and i honestly think i would not brake the safe with that " small " amount of gun powder in them. Another fact if you tape them togeder one will brake the other one around it and not blowing out at same time. 5 grams of gp " gun powder " is small amount for czech because here they sell 50-300g firecrackers ( illegaly ) and that would do the job. the safe had to be easy to brake.
I like how he also completely ignores LPL's videos on these same locks and tries brute force. The fingerprint one is especially funny as they are trivial to get around, being a Master Lock.
Rip tony. Also the last conclusion was great lol, but the lock picking lawyer has a video on a great way to get a lock and pickproof it for 20$. It's called something like "pickproof your kwikset for only 20$"
@@danc2014 I don't think a person will be using explosives, this could attract some attention of the neighborhood lol. And a lock is only as secure as the door or window that it is protecting, by force you can do a lot.
This is actually useful for me to learn considering I have a lot of locks where either the key is missing or I/My family don't remember the code to the padlocks.
0:08 wait... is that a paintball gun in the background!??! I was thinking for the past few days I want him to learn something paintball related. (this is because I'm a big paintball player myself)
Also LPL's double wrench method is not the classic one. you used the classic one. The one where the wrenches are 90* from each other is the LPL's modified version to pull up on the shackle. His method stresses the locking mechanism inside, not the strong shackle and lock body
A lock is not there only to protect. A lock is there to display that the asset is secured and any attempt to tamper with the lock proves malicious intentions. Even the cheapest lock delivers a clear "private property, no entry" message.

I use single pin picking on the majority of locks, such as door-locks and most padlocks, but for locksport only.. The ones that give me the most challenging challenge seem to be Yales for some reason. As part of the locksport community, we frown on using destructive methods, and never on a lock in use. I heard the Lockpicking Lawyer mentioned, and highly recommend his videos for all kinds of tips and tricks. I would not reccomend using Lishi tools unless you know the particualr tool for the lock in question as there are about 100 to choose from. A couple of picks and a couple of rakes and importantly some good turning tools that allow you to access either the top or bottom of the keyway will open most commonly used locks. This was a fun video though, and yes, I carry a big and little paperclip in my wallet in case of emergency!
For those who could not read that on 2:52, here is what was written: ''you m ight think these are yeezy but I actually paid them $4 on Shein and they look particulary bad in this frame but i still love them alright''. Hope this helped
3:31 I've broken a lot of locks with that wrench method, really thought it was common knowledge. It's very effectve, needs no skill, very little strenght (it can be strainous if the lock is good, but even a weak person can do it with enough time) and the tools it need are very simple.
Locks are NOT intended to protect your belongings from lock picking experts. They're there to protect against the average person stealing what's locked for a smallish amount of time, which is the vast majority of people. You can't expect a lock to protect against an expert lock picker or even someone carrying heavy enough bolt cutters. The point is, locks are useful for protecting against theft as long as you use them sensibly and understand their limitations and their risks. Locks aren't risk free, they are simply intended to reduce the risk of theft for a small-ish amount of time.

U know u could still get into prison 4 thzg

I love this
11:19 I did that once myself, that’s not a picking tool. That’s meant to retrieve broken keys from a keyway.
A key safe outside a house is easy to defeat….
But you can smash a window on the same house and gain entry to the house in about 1 second.
So if you want to burgle the house ignore the key safe, and smash a window, it’s far quicker, and works every time.. . . .
i don't know about your windows, but they're usually not simple glass plates anymore.
Lever locks, such as the one on that lock box (It is not a safe), are generally easy to pick.
14:14 for the image at the end
bro is so underrated you are AMAZING. 10 mil plus my guy.
The padlock in the matchstick video one is probably one thats made from pot metal (cheap weak version of cast iron) thats painted brass colour, and the core is made of plastic with nylon locking pawls. The fire melts the mechanism.
2:02 the way he was lighting a match on a wooden table put my anxiety very high up
12:19 you should check if your method would blow up the inside content of the safe.
1:35 casually just making like basically a bomb 💣
0:50 you are using a MasterLock Model 140. It can be opened with a MasterLock model 140.
Ive seen that before
9:30 that laugh is the laugh of a robber who knows the next thing that will happen to the lock
Thanks now I can enter my friends house (:
"Desert eagle in American Units" 💀💀💀💀
Often, i can’t do any of the skills presented in your videos but as an arab i can confidently say that i know everything in this video
McNally: If you have a Master lock, it can be opened using a Master lock.

this guy has to be my dream self like LOOK AT HIS HAI GODDANM😱😱😱😱😱😱
7:45 Handcuffs.
You can also insert the paper clip between the teeth of the ring and the locking mechanism, pushing the mechanism teeth down and separating them from the ring teeth. A wider, flatter piece of metal often works better for this.
10:12 damn that joke was wild 💀
Best joke of the year😂. (The american units one)
after recommendation from LPL with not one but TWO videos on the kryptonite evolution series 4 bike chain lock I got that one - and although it does seem a quite secure lock it fails at bad weather: the disc retainer cylinder is already problematic and due to rather tight tolerances if it gets below freezing the lock just completely .. well .. locks up and can't be opened with the key anymore - so, as it's winter right now here - now my bike is permantly locked to the pole at my front door and although I do have the key I can't unlock it due to the lock is frozen - and I guess waiting till it thaws it will then rust shut ... so yea, the kryptonite is quite a good look - but only for inside use defeating its purpose as a bike chain lock
Instead buy a two dollar ruler you get a $700 katana💀💀💀 5:30
You know, just in case you have to slash the lock when it cannot be picked
That firecracker you have in the video is called Megatron. It have 5 grams of gun powder in it and i honestly think i would not brake the safe with that " small " amount of gun powder in them. Another fact if you tape them togeder one will brake the other one around it and not blowing out at same time. 5 grams of gp " gun powder " is small amount for czech because here they sell 50-300g firecrackers ( illegaly ) and that would do the job. the safe had to be easy to brake.
First time watching LPL?
bro really got shook at how easy it is to pick a lock
I like how he also completely ignores LPL's videos on these same locks and tries brute force. The fingerprint one is especially funny as they are trivial to get around, being a Master Lock.
14:00: I think nobody would do it, except there are bars of gold, that are blast resistant in there.
Rip tony. Also the last conclusion was great lol, but the lock picking lawyer has a video on a great way to get a lock and pickproof it for 20$. It's called something like "pickproof your kwikset for only 20$"
The 20 dollar fix only stops a pick not 5 firecrackers
@@danc2014 I don't think a person will be using explosives, this could attract some attention of the neighborhood lol. And a lock is only as secure as the door or window that it is protecting, by force you can do a lot.
mike you will be one of the best grandpas out there dude
This is actually useful for me to learn considering I have a lot of locks where either the key is missing or I/My family don't remember the code to the padlocks.
12:27 "Hola Peter"
Eh piter!! Te agarré con la mano en la macha eehh
Teofreci mi amistad y me explotaste la caja😔
12:48 quiero recordarles que lo estoy haciendo en una propiedad privada así que el espacio es más seguro, espero que el dueño este de acuerdo 😂
0:08 wait... is that a paintball gun in the background!??! I was thinking for the past few days I want him to learn something paintball related. (this is because I'm a big paintball player myself)
This explanation is so clear! Thanks to God
You are one of my favorite RUclipsrs not only because you teach a lot of great things but because you are also funny
Also LPL's double wrench method is not the classic one. you used the classic one. The one where the wrenches are 90* from each other is the LPL's modified version to pull up on the shackle. His method stresses the locking mechanism inside, not the strong shackle and lock body
Yep, he used the wrong approach with just about everything he did.
A lock is not there only to protect. A lock is there to display that the asset is secured and any attempt to tamper with the lock proves malicious intentions. Even the cheapest lock delivers a clear "private property, no entry" message.
I am following you when you have 300k-400k subscriber...and you improved your video very nicely mike...professional to professional + humour..we want more video like this
Shut up lil bro
10:12 Oh thank god, I needed that conversion.
Mike Never fails to impress

13:54 He blew it’s back out! (Yes I know what I said lol)
Better video than I expected, thought it was clickbait good video!
when it comes to wrenches, sometimes what you need is a longer wrench because of how levers work.
7:48 he sounds American here
Bro your right 😅😅😅
For those who could not read that on 2:52, here is what was written: ''you m ight think these are yeezy but I actually paid them $4 on Shein and they look particulary bad in this frame but i still love them alright''. Hope this helped
3:31 I've broken a lot of locks with that wrench method, really thought it was common knowledge. It's very effectve, needs no skill, very little strenght (it can be strainous if the lock is good, but even a weak person can do it with enough time) and the tools it need are very simple.
This one was very exciting to watch.
The lock with a knife as you said “I don’t trust locks anymore” is peak comedy.
