The thing is that we had a pandemic when PS5 released. It was a perfect time for scalpers to mass buy and sell overpriced. People were desperate to get their hands on the new console (also the 3000 Nvidia series), especially when you had to stay under quarantine. This time around most people got current gen consoles and their desired PCs. Scalpers will definitely not touch this shit.
This quote really resonates with me: "I already accepted the fact that I am no longer the target market for the majority of things people are making". I am noticing I am really checking out on a lot of stuff, weather it's consoles, videogames, movies, media subscriptions, new phones. The thick layer of greed in providing goods & services is getting so obvious and obnoxious that I am opting out on a lot of things. Not because I am not potentially interested, but I am tired of being used as a walking wallet/cash machine.

Ultimately it's a completely optional luxury product (as bad of a product as it appears). PS5 still seems like a much better value and product for vast majority of gamers. You can also buy a PS5 used/refurbished $300ish, so that is still the way for nearly everyone.

The fact that 60fps is still used as a selling point is abysmal. 60fps shouldn't even be a thing that you aim for, it should just be the standard. It's 2024, we've had 60fps for well over a decade
Over 2 decades for consoles. We were playing lots of 60fps games on the Dreamcast back in 1999... Soul Calibur, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Crazy taxi, Sonic Adventure and many others. Super Nintendo did it even before that.
As a PC gamer its insane that consoles are still in the dark ages. 60 fps is the BARE MINIMUM. Im so used to playing games at 100+ fps on my pc that now even 60 makes me go "ugh...". Though yes, you do get used to it after a while and its not terrible, unlike 30. I have no idea how people play games at 30 fps, not only does it look like a slideshow, even the inputs are so unresponsive. Its just a terrible experience.

Its worth it their are alot of settings that vastly improve your experience compared to trash scuf. Not only that but stick drift is non existent either this or spend 200$+ of controllers a year because how garbage the default controllers are. And sticks are replaceable

Because they aren't.. Basically their went for example from a 4060 to 4070. Sure it will be better but the difference really depends on the game. There's no special tech here.
It's even worse when you live outside the US like the UK, and the PS5 starts at $800, not even talking tax/fees, disk drive, stand they cheaped out on and don't include either... You're looking north of $1000 for a full PS5 Pro setup prob including a game or two.
The funny thing is they're literally charging around the price of a PC blu-ray drive (which are still being made), despite PC blu-ray drives being uncommon (economies of scale doesn't apply as much to things like the drive controllers, which aren't the same as say blu-ray players for TVs and the like)
I'm in the UK. I just completed the North Coast 500. It's driving 500 miles around the Scottish Highlands. An utterly amazing trip through the most remote and beautiful terrain, castles, history on earth... it took 2 weeks and It cost me less than the UK price for the new Playstation.

Satoru Iwata was the first person that came to my mind after Sony announced the price for the ps5 pro. A lot of people criticized him for not putting much effort in making consoles more powerful but overtime, his concerns for the industry back in 2004 became true 2 decades later

I think it actually came from a "we aren't a giant tech conglomerate like sony or microsoft", and Iwata's documented love of Apple. The latter's Jobsian philosophy focuses more on how people use hardware (at least in Iwata's application) as compared to raw power especially at around 2004 when PPC lost its efficiency edge. Nintendo didn't have the power of companies like AMD/NVIDIA (no, Flipper/Hollywood (GCN/Wii GPUs) don't count, since they were made by ArtX who was bought out by ATI and share no lineage with R300/Xenos (ATI's then chips). )
This is such a laughable move by Sony. We want more games not consoles, what good is the $700 console if there’s no new games to play them on. Not to mention like Joe mentioned, all the graphical updates on the PS5 Pro are irrelevant if developers are still only targeting 30 FPS and less then 4K resolution.
i dont have a ps5. ive had the idea of getting the ps5 pro since the rumors of it coming out. i had planned on buying it because i wanted to play gta6 on the best platform at launch. I hope theres a good enough difference for me to justify getting the pro..

This is how it's done in marketing. You create a limited supply so that scalpers drive the price up while your marketing and finance teams watch closely to find out how much people are willing to spend. You have 2 options from there. Hike the price and push the scalpers out, or leave the price so that the after-market drives brand awareness while the steady price maintains brand trust

I'm sticking with the PS5 I currently own. I am not spending $700-$800 on the Pro version of the console. And I'm most definitely not paying for a disc drive expansion if I want to play my physical copies of PS5 games.

With inflation i don’t think its that bad my only problems would be it not having a disc drive and them still using zen 2. But we get a lot more gpu power and memory bandwidth plus 2tb of storage. It not gonna help games that are cpu bound like space marines 2. At a bare minimum Sony should’ve use a 5000 series chip. I buy everything and like collecting even though i have 2 beast gaming rigs 7950x3d 4090 and 7800x3d nitro 7900xtx i play many games on console because i like buying a physical copy. Many times i end up buying 2 copies of the same game to play on consoles and pc. But if i can play games at 1440p or 4k at 60fps I’m perfectly happy on a console. And we will probably see more games run 120hz with the Pro. I have a series x, ps5, og switch, oled switch, steam deck 512gb, asus ally, and a couple laptops 13900hx 4080, 10875h 4070S, 8750h 1070. So im all in on this gaming hoppy and just love to play games and collect gpu’s and pc parts hell some of my tinker systems are still decently powerful 5950x Taichi 6800xt, 5800x3d ftw 3 3080ti, 5700x strix 2080, 3600 nitro 5700xt, 9900ks strix 2080ti. I dont think the pro is for everyone as you can see by it sells, mainline consoles sale out fast but mid gen refresh not as much. Only time will tell and I’m wondering if Microsoft gonna respond.

Don't kid yourselves. WE ALL LIKE HI FIDELITY IMMERSIVE GORGEOUS games. If the devs did what want, dropped visuals, so you can run 60fps, at 4k etc, then people would complain the graphics and immersion is not great. Anyway there is no competition right now, so they can price it like that. If someone else comes out with competition at a lower price, then they'll adjust.

I've seen people arguing the industry should focus on "smaller" games, but the situation is so ridiculous, even Astro Bot took 4 years to be made. A direct sequel like Forbidden West, recycling assets and etc.. Took 6 years to be made. Meanwhile Capcom was able to develop RE7, RE8 and RE4 Remake, 3 years for each. Neither of these RE games are "smaller" or less "realistic", nope, they were simply made on a more efficient engine. By the way, to put things in perspective with a niche example, the Overwatch "2" devs blamed the engine as one of the excuses to change to 5v5 instead of continuing with the 6v6 format, the "new" engine couldn't sustain 10 players at the same time, we're talking about a early PS4 game who have potato graphics that mimics Pixar, c'mon now

As much as I'd like to upgrade to a new PC, I'm rather content with the consoles I do have, since some of them I can take on the go, like the Vita and the Switch. Upscaling is both a blessing and a curse for the gaming industry since Nvidia first released their version DLSS 😂 it just leads to unoptimized games and lazy Devs who let companies like Nvidia, AMD, Intel and now Sony to push these technologies

Thing with upscaling is the processor works harder to complete more task, which generates more heat. I would not be shocked if this system has some thermal issues or fan noises. I take native over upscaled any day.
Not including the disc drive is one thing, the audacity to not even include the vertical stand is crazy, that should be standard. If you have to use it in marketing, it should come with the product.
Any casual gamer with a brain knows not to buy this. But privileged, super rich people probably will. And just like with microtransactions and Madden, that is what will drive the market for nonsense like this.
The good thing is, I feel like those people make of the great minority of gamers. I think most gamers, especially now a days know to look for a better price or wait. At this point there isn't even a graphical leap anymore like how you could see the difference between the PS1 and PS2 graphics and from PS2 to PS3. Now days everything is about frames which I believe the Pro version is just a rip off. I'm sticking with my standard PS5
Because zen 2 was designed for 7nm. They are absolutely tiny tiny cores in today's age and they are fast enough for 60 full stop. This is absolutely the correct decision to keep using zen 2 and spend every last mm^2 on more CUs. Upgrading the cpu in the pro would be tremendously stupid.
It will have higher clocks, around +10% on base clock. It would be a stupid and reckless decision to completely switch to newer architecture; that would be a nightmare for developers. Now they have it much much easier.

It's even worse when you live outside the US like the UK, and the PS5 starts at $800, not even talking tax/fees, disk drive, stand they cheaped out on and don't include either... You're looking north of $1000 for a full PS5 Pro setup prob including a game or two.
The funny thing is they're literally charging around the price of a PC blu-ray drive (which are still being made), despite PC blu-ray drives being uncommon (economies of scale doesn't apply as much to things like the drive controllers, which aren't the same as say blu-ray players for TVs and the like)
I'm in the UK. I just completed the North Coast 500. It's driving 500 miles around the Scottish Highlands. An utterly amazing trip through the most remote and beautiful terrain, castles, history on earth... it took 2 weeks and It cost me less than the UK price for the new Playstation.

Satoru Iwata was the first person that came to my mind after Sony announced the price for the ps5 pro. A lot of people criticized him for not putting much effort in making consoles more powerful but overtime, his concerns for the industry back in 2004 became true 2 decades later

This is such a laughable move by Sony. We want more games not consoles, what good is the $700 console if there’s no new games to play them on. With inflation i don’t think its that bad my only problems would be it not having a disc drive and them still using zen 2. But we get a lot more gpu power and memory bandwidth plus 2tb of storage. It not gonna help games that are cpu bound like space marines 2. At a bare minimum Sony should’ve use a 5000 series chip. I buy everything and like collecting even though i have 2 beast gaming rigs 7950x3d 4090 and 7800x3d nitro 7900xtx i play many games on console because i like buying a physical copy. Many times i end up buying 2 copies of the same game to play on consoles and pc. But if i can play games at 1440p or 4k at 60fps I’m perfectly happy on a console. And we will probably see more games run 120hz with the Pro. I have a series x, ps5, og switch, oled switch, steam deck 512gb, asus ally, and a couple laptops 13900hx 4080, 10875h 4070S, 8750h 1070. So im all in on this gaming hoppy and just love to play games and collect gpu’s and pc parts hell some of my tinker systems are still decently powerful 5950x Taichi 6800xt, 5800x3d ftw 3 3080ti, 5700x strix 2080, 3600 nitro 5700xt, 9900ks strix 2080ti. I dont think the pro is for everyone as you can see by it sells, mainline consoles sale out fast but mid gen refresh not as much. Only time will tell and I’m wondering if Microsoft gonna respond.

they learned that if you have competition, you can't do that. but if you don't have, you can do that. however, there is literally no reason to buy it. they should have az least launched a few new games for it, because rn all you can do is replay the same games on a tiny bit higher resolution

So many good games, and OLDER games. Yes, sure 720p ish but who the hell cares. You'll have so many FUN games to play.
They did the research and found out that 75% of their market preferred 60 fps compared to maximized graphics.
A smart person would take this and say: "hmm, maybe we shouldn't waste so much time on realism and graphics and instead focus on making a fun game with a defined style that isn't so graphically demanding and ages poorly when the technology gets better."
And then you have Sony. 700$ for a box that does the thing that only 25% of your audience wants.

Its for those who want 60 fps more consistent and prettier. The 25% does not care about fluidity. I would hope that the old games with 900p get a sharper image as well.

Don't kid yourselves. WE ALL LIKE HI FIDELITY IMMERSIVE GORGEOUS games. If the devs did what want, dropped visuals, so you can run 60fps, at 4k etc, then people would complain the graphics and immersion is not great.
Anyway there is no competition right now, so they can price it like that. If someone else comes out with competition at a lower price, then they'll adjust.

The visual fidelity is already great as it is, I want stable performance. Even if it's on PS5 Pro, none of the games will render at native 4k.

I've seen people arguing the industry should focus on "smaller" games, but the situation is so ridiculous, even Astro Bot took 4 years to be made. A direct sequel like Forbidden West, recycling assets and etc.. Took 6 years to be made. Meanwhile Capcom was able to develop RE7, RE8 and RE4 Remake, 3 years for each. Neither of these RE games are "smaller" or less "realistic", nope, they were simply made on a more efficient engine. By the way, to put things in perspective with a niche example, the Overwatch "2" devs blamed the engine as one of the excuses to change to 5v5 instead of continuing with the 6v6 format, the "new" engine couldn't sustain 10 players at the same time, we're talking about a early PS4 game who have potato graphics that mimics Pixar, c'mon now

What about console players who are gonna stick with the original system? As much as I'd like to upgrade to a new PC, I'm rather content with the consoles I do have, since some of them I can take on the go, like the Vita and the Switch. Plus I ain't interested in the PS5 Pro, since it literally makes no difference graphics-wise.
Consoles are definitely still worth it. A no disk drive ps5 is 400 bucks. But this on pro thing is just insane

Upscaling is both a blessing and a curse for the gaming industry since Nvidia first released their version DLSS 😂 it just leads to unoptimized games and lazy Devs who let companies like Nvidia, AMD, Intel and now Sony to push these technologies

Thing with upscaling is the processor works harder to complete more task, which generates more heat. I would not be shocked if this system has some thermal issues or fan noises. I take native over upscaled any day.

Not including the disc drive is one thing, the audacity to not even include the vertical stand is crazy, that should be standard. If you have to use it in marketing, it should come with the product.

Because zen 2 was designed for 7nm. They are absolutely tiny tiny cores in today's age and they are fast enough for 60 full stop. This is absolutely the correct decision to keep using zen 2 and spend every last mm^2 on more CUs. Upgrading the cpu in the pro would be tremendously stupid.

It will have higher clocks, around +10% on base clock. It would be a stupid and reckless decision to completely switch to newer architecture; that would be a nightmare for developers. Now they have it much much easier.
