Wow! What are the odds of that?!
Airport completely disabled by a single lightning strike!

When you travel you should have enough extra money to cover alternative transportation and/or hotel
Also get travel insurance so those expenses will be reimbursed
But don’t expect the airline or any travel provider to cover that for you
You don’t become their responsibility ever
You are always your own responsibility
    Always

He should be happy to not get to new Orleans where there was plenty of tornados that came down as soon as it got over to Louisiana border. I was watching a ton of rotation south of Houston, sienna, Missouri city, Pearland all heading that way. Lake Charles had like 3-4 tornados alone

Why the people complaining about having to wait knowing that the airport had no fault in that lightening strike. People, have some common sense

Lightning hit a wet soccer field during a soccer match and all the players on one team died and all the players on the other team were unhurt. The players that died had metal cleats on their shoes and the other team had plastic cleats on their shoes.

TIL in 1998, during a soccer match in the Congo a lightning bolt struck the pitch and killed all 11 members of one team. The other team was left unscathed.

A hole in the ground from a lightening bolt!? I never heard of that. I do believe that unusual solar storm probably left a lot of electricity in the air though.

If you've never heard of a hole in the ground after a lightening strike then you need to have your hearing checked. ;) It's not a rare event.

For the price of flights? Yeah, I'd say they're entitled to it. Southwest really doesn't need you to defend them.
