  • A senior living apartment complex in Houston is accused of abandoning it’s vulnerable residents after a severe weather outbreak in Houston on Thursday.

      I don't think that's going to happen. Saying things like that might feel good for some people, but it achieves no results. This is human nature. Expect it from everybody, trust no one, and try to be as independent and self sufficient as possible, because nobody is going to help you when the weathers turns bad.

      The absentee, probably out of state, land owners are paid big bucks through HUD for these buildings to be maintained. This has been a problem for many years in Houston. After 36 years living in Houston when I needed an affordable place to live after Harvey I ended up in Tennessee. They are not perfect here but pretty close and we are inspected yearly

      The "more to this story" is it's section 8 housing for disabled seniors. If this place was bad for a long time like the Mayor said... Wtf was the housing authiroty doing. There are supposed to inspect all units annually and when someone moves into a unit.

    I'ma paraplegic vet confined to a hospital bed.. you'd be surprised how much this happens.. my town has 🌪️ the other day (Kansas) and they saud we would get ten minutes notice to go to the shelter.. that's not near enough time for me to call an ambulance and get to the shelters as i cant move without help.. we will all be abandoned eventually..

    I'm afraid Whitmire just uncovered a whole can of worms. If you've been around commercial real estate in Houston a few years, this condition like this building is more common than you think. Houston has more slumlords than NYC. And we have 1/10 the buildings.

    This is happening all over the country. Big companies own most of the senior centers, and they are abandoning the people at these facilities. Young people don't want to take care of these people. That is the real problem.

    The manager was tired of being the fall guy. I get that part, but at least report it and call their families🤦🏽‍♀️ Don’t just leave the people. When I worked in the hospital, you had to save at least one person. Of I’m not pushing a wheelchair so I’m getting all my patients that can walk.

    In my experience living with PCWs and nurses, it's when the storm hits that they get called on to help people like this. The government literally send cars to theirs homes to make sure they get where they are needed during snow storms (I live in the East Coast of Canada so that's the only storms we get really). So sad

    God Bless the emergency services and mayor for heading there.......The management of this facility needs to be fined because you SIMPLY CAN'T leave vunerable people unsupervised...
