We, as Americans, have little understanding of how local politics works. If more voters understood local politics, we would understand national politics. We are steeped in corruption and paying an enormous price for our ignorance.
It's funny because it's almost the exact opposite of the intent of the founders. It's supposed to be your local Representative or your governor who worries about national politics while you live your life, but we don't really have "representative" Representatives anymore when each one "represents" almost a million people each. There was even a constitutional amendment in the 18th century that would've set a standard of 50,000 constituents per Representative max (so today it would be ~7000 people in the House). Because they're meant to represent a local community. Imagine if your Representative in congress was someone you could know personally, watch like a hawk, speak with regularly and easily rally to remove. Yes they gave her the key but what records did they hide or destroy?
yup, they had a week to clean house.
ALL of the incriminating ones!
How much “business” was conducted off the record?
They're gonna keep her around? For *ANY* length of time?
@@spikespa5208
It's either that or pay her over $70K to go away. The town gets off cheaper if they keep her on right now and then fire her once they can prove wrongdoing (otherwise, they risk a lengthy legal battle regarding unemployment, breaking contracts, etc).
yeah, she handed over the keys after she and her dad had time to clean out everything they didn't want anyone else to see.
They only handed over the key to the building. They didn't give her the key to the file room
It must have taken months to clean up all the mess the daddy daughter corruption left behind, can you imagine how horrible this daddy is to be aiding his daughter in this messy matters? 😢🤮
They might be able to destroy the files on hand but if there's any questionable money transferring the banks will have all those records. Those records show who authorized them and to whom they were paid to.
States attorney general needs to make an inquiry into this crap.
Good job exposing corruption!
Nepotism should be illegal, even in a small town. Not only should conflict of interest be avoided; the appearance of a conflict of interest should be avoided.
This. It’s so annoying and very hard to work anywhere that allows nepotism. If I find out family members are working together in a company I am applying for or it is a family owned and operated business, I will walk away. I learned my lesson and I will straight up ask when interviewing.
@bombero3368, having lived all my life in a place like this, my bet would be that most of the council are friends/relatives of the fiscal officer and her dad.
They get voted in, usually unopposed, because nobody else wants the job. Then they rubber stamp anything that benefits their friends and family.

Why would you give these 2 people all that power, how was that allowed to happen.
We, as Americans, have little understanding of how local politics works. If more voters understood local politics, we would understand national politics. We are steeped in corruption and paying an enormous price for our ignorance.
Every single person in politics is corrupt. From the small villages right up to the Oval Office.
Agreed 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽💯
Another thing they took out of schools
It's funny because it's almost the exact opposite of the intent of the founders. It's supposed to be your local Representative or your governor who worries about national politics while you live your life, but we don't really have "representative" Representatives anymore when each one "represents" almost a million people each. There was even a constitutional amendment in the 18th century that would've set a standard of 50,000 constituents per Representative max (so today it would be ~7000 people in the House). Because they're meant to represent a local community. Imagine if your Representative in congress was someone you could know personally, watch like a hawk, speak with regularly and easily rally to remove. In the age of the internet, they wouldn't even need to leave the neighborhood, why does everyone need to be in DC in the 21st century?
It’s the same as national politics: none of your business
I lived north of there (on the Indiana side of the line) and drove through that town on a regular basis. It looked like Mayberry to me. I had no idea there was this much malfeasance going on there!
All the council members and the father and daughter need to be investigated at a federal level.
no federal jurisdiction on this kind of situation. It's local government, and that's a 10th amendment matter, reserved to the states. So this is on the state of Ohio.
Federal level? Fox trying the weasel?
The new mayor and council now have a responsibility to get to the bottom of this.
You can tell by there demeanour, that they are committing fraud.
That's theft of your hard worked for cash, they should go before a court of inquiry to justify their thieving actions.
Skip the court. Straight to the scaffold.

She doesn't know she can do that. She thinks they have power.

Sounds like there’s an investigation ongoing and she’s doing the smart thing and not letting them leave without a penny. Plus they’re easier to be forced to make cooperate if they still work there.
The whole place needs audited and fast!

Correct. In my local county government we did not have to accept a resignation just for that reason. They could then be fired and even charged and arrested later on.
