First priority when up against Hungary - conquer your city state neighbors.
Lol. U made me laugh , then he told me why and I thought... yup... makes sense lol
Meanwhile Matthias be like "I'll get you, bitch."
Let’s play a drinking game! Everyone drink when Marbs says the word “Insane!”
Wow, that drinking game is actually insane
@@Damogen I'd be much more sober than if I played Quill18 "It's gonna be alright" which would likely prove fatal.
"I'm ok with that"
@@hamishmcdog48 what can possibily go wrong?
I should not have played this game before breakfast
My favorite thing about your videos is your great explanations of why you make the choices you do. Love it.
That's what made him an icon in the Civ community. Try his older videos.. There're "insane" LOL
Persia LP is a great example. It has all the favorites: Ramkhamtrollface, Korea being Korea and most importantly THE LEGENDARY BATTLE OF ECBATANA. Excuse my shouting.
"That's actually insane!" - counter: Over 9000!
That many? That’s actually insane
Loyalty isn't a problem if there are no enemy city nearby right? ;P

Your city can't flip to your neighbors, if you have no neighbors 🙂👈.
Marco Giuliani should have kept and just taken Stockholm
Wow Marbz I have not heard you laugh so much in a long time. It is rather infectious...it was so fun seeing you have all of this fun....it reminds me of your Civ V Persia videos. Love it!!!

The most balanced civ so far!
As all things should be.
I counted 14-15 swordsmen. Damn.
And roughly 12 turns to obliterate five cities.
Looks like all the Civs you've covered so far are "the most balanced".
Maori is "the most balanced".
The Ottomans are "the most balanced".
Phoenica is "the most balanced"
And now Hungary too.
jesus fucking christ
Just a minor note that the rivers on the map Tiszia, Rába, Körös are actual Rivers from Hungary, the few bigger ones it actually has. :P Also the Karpathian mountains are matching as well. Not sure if this is new or not but a pretty nice touch that the game generates the geographical names based on the civ that spawned on the area. XD
ProtonCannon yeah it’s based on the civ. So say England settles London on a river, that river becomes the Thames. With Egypt the Nile etc. great new feature imo
*Tisza
They do! The Danube always spawns really close when you play as Hungary. They even did it for old civs like Sumerian too!
There was also the Carpathian Mountains, Kőszegi hegység (mountains).. .D But the funniest thing was that it was actually properly displayed. The river Tisza joined up with the Danube at the sea, and the Kőrös river joined up with Tisza at proportionally the correct location, and the Carpathian Mountains were properly laid in a circle around the Basin, and in it there were vine and wheat :D And Miskolc had iron, which is funny because Miskolc is the City of Steel. XD
Now that is the ultimate attention to details on the part of the random map generator.
Kind of exactly as expected. The ability seemed crazy OP.
Another thing about Hungary's ability is that being able to get Suzerans that easily especially early on will almost guarantee golden ages.
I'm also noticing that map seeds seem to be far superior in terms of land and resource distribution
They can't get Suzeranity much easier than other civs, since to gain extra envoys from levying you already need to be a suzeran, what they are good at is holding on to city states they gained control of. Though later in the game they will have more spare envoys due to that (and be able to do "use Amani with last promotion to temporarily gain suzeranity -> levy troops to gain bonus envoys until you have control normally -> rinse and repeat" steategy but that seems fairly slow and expensive) so they are better than baseline at getting suzeranity I guess.
Your enthusiasm is infectious. I love it.
Damn, I had a feeling this would happen when I read the Hungary abilities, but seeing it in action is still scary. I think Hungary will have to be banned in mp before they get nerfed. There is literally no way for any other civ to compete with just rushing Swordsmen tech. The +2 Movement Speed and +5 Combat bonus is just overkill at this point. You even get more envoys for using the ability so other players can't even compete with your Suzerainty to stop you until you get spies.
Even with spies fabricating scandals, Hungary can in theory buy envoys every turn if you establish, levy, remove, and reestablish Amani.
I think they should remove their ability to upgrade units for free. Or make a 50% discount for upgrading or something.
skyhunter156 just to put how powerful they are in prospective- swordsman based strength is 35 (I think) then they get +5 from raven king = 40 and another +4 from oligarchy. That's 44 combat strength... Almost knights. One knight? No.. 6 of them. What do they cost? Around 120 gold. Completely ignoring the +2 envoys it's so stupidly broken.
Polak, Węgier - dwa bratanki
Can't wait to play the expansion
Hungary and Poland should be permanent allies in the game
I do szabli i do szklanki
So, were ther playtesters from Hungary or something?
Playtesters?
>playtesters
Nice one.
Hungary is best Civ. We got gang raped by our neighbors, who destroyed all the City States and Mongols came and injured us only for the Ottomans until to come in and leave us with one city. Too bad we couldn't reload the save. XD
Charles Anthony lol do not forget to mention our disloyal greedy nobles...
@@vicePVic ..and the ones who always blames themselves (ourselves)...how typical:))
Finally a reviewer is playing Hungary!!
That was utterly ridiculous. I can see the player being able to have a small, heavily promoted defensive army with this while they just spam the city state troops when they want to attack someone. Firaxis may have gone too far with this one
Nothing is too far with city states
At this rate, Marbs’ videos will be responsible for 75% of the balance fixes in the first GS patch
I find it funny the two warmonger civs that got included. Ottomans and Hungary came together in the same pack. Considering their fierce rivalry.
28:10 Soviet general discussing his invasion tactics on Nazi Germany (900BC, Colourized live footage)

These focused videos are far more fun than lets plays. Thanks for doing them.

banned in multiplayer.
And gets the Oddjob treatment.
@@DeludedOne Hey It's not my fault you suck at aiming down.
tintim85 if someone takes Hungary in a multiplayer game you can be sure everyone else will be attacking city states as soon as they meet them.
These videos have been incredibly fun!
Best way to fight Matthias might be to stockpile envoys and have Amani at the ready.
Hungary levies a city state and upgrades all their units. You steal the city state and levy those units right back. You don't get the combat and movement bonus but still benefit from the free upgrade. Obviously the difficulty is in keeping up with Hungary's envoys, but levying costs gold and and only be done every x turns, so I think if you focus on one city state you can potentially keep up unless Hungary also focuses on it, but if they do they're just limiting themselves and are manageable anyway.
It'd likely be too expensive, Swordsmen cost more gold to levy than Warriors. You could flip the city state's loyalty by doing this, but if Hungary's already upgraded all of the units it's going to be extremely expensive to actually counter levy them. It could work but you're investing an extreme amount of resources to try to counter someone investing way less.
Amani cant go to citystates you're at war with, so that part of your plan doesn't work
@@FIamestalker Marbozir didnt declare war until he had already levied, upgraded and moved them. That means there's a window of oppurtunity to move amani, dump envoys and levy their units to instantly have an army ready at the borders of hungary.
It would mean that you have to have at least one scout near hungary permanently, stockpile all of your gold and basically focus entirely on the possibility of hungary attacking you. Sounds like a good way to mess up your early growth, but certainly doable.
The solution is to conquer nearby city states to your empire.
So proud to see Hungary as an actual civ! :)
Even prouder that they're overpowered
@@Mate_Antal_Zoltan For once... :D
Damn. You always make me come back to play Civ because you make it look real fun.
This was so fun watching you steamroll a Civ so early and all you had to do was find the city-states and pay for their army's Sweden? what sweden? never heard of.
I lol'd several times during this - you just got yourself a new subscriber
still come here when i'm feeling under the weather... it cheers me up so much!
Ok, this was so much FUN to watch!!
Funny how Hungary, which by R&F standards would've been a mediocre Civ, is solidly S-tier due to two small changes: the Resource mechanics and the new map tectonics which improve river generation.
Thank you for confirming their strength. I've always felt there were some insane syngergy between cheaper Commercial Hubs (because you'll build those cheaply in your cities, like, in every freaking city you own), and then using their gold to endlessly levy city state troops, monopolizing the suzerain bonuses and gaining tonnes of Diplomatic Favour per turn which you can use to win Diplo Victory or sell for even more gold. It's good to see that in action.
Truly a sublime civ.
Will we be seeing Eleanor soon? She's also capable of some crazy cheese with her Loyalty flipping abilities.
This was so fun to watch. Thank you
This is a comment to please the RUclips algorithm.
This one as well. All praise the mighty Algorithm!
Praised be! praised be!
Pretty new to your channel. Love this stuff, thanks for making them!
why do i have the feeling that this is going to be the first civ that marbs play in full? that was bit stressful... "go go go!" :D
That was hilarious Attila.
Nope, it wasnt me, but somebody who was in sync with the ways i did things like this! :)
Insane huh? You know what they say...
You're not you, when you're Hungary
i suppose when you levy troops just to get the extra envoys, you could use those troops as scouts to meet other citystates before the other civs, get those bonus envoys, and snowball the whole map (plus you'd snag all the goodie huts, barbarian encampments, and pop some eurekas in the process). in the case of this game, you could use the second and third citystates' swordsmen to explore, since the troops you got from the first citystate were sufficient to eliminate sweden.
Oh my damn. I thought Genghis was a terror. Now it's like, "Oh, Hungary is on the map. Now this city state next to me is a wrecking ball riiip"
As a hungarian, I'd like to teach you only one expression: világuralom! (World domination) :D
@Russel Schwartz as it is written. :D [vill-lag-ur-all-ohm]. Sorry, I'm not so good in that pseudo-phonetic transcription what english speekers use when they don't know the pronunciation of a word in their own language. :D
ok, marb Please, i beg you, make a series of this civ, this is so crazy to look at. it the first time i seen swordmen rush like they from a zombie game. wars with hungary have to be a lot of fun. please show us some mid game wars, this is acually scary. nice video
Excellent video. You've made us... hungry for more.
Did you mean... Hungary for more?

This brings back flashbacks to no upkeep warcarts and 1 turning wonder with overflow.
Marb's favourite City State, Antanabananarivo, the only other one that could compare (if it exists) is Jimboomba.
I think we should all remember that he hasn’t even unlocked Hungary’s unique units yet!! Absolutely insane
Who needs their own units when you can throw endless waves of upgraded city state units at everyone?
Hey Marbozir. I'm happy to hear and watch you having fun, laughing and being enthusiastic. It's fun.
I know I am not entitled to anything, Marbozir, but is it possible for you to make a video about your review/critique of CIvilization 6 in its current state? I'm one of those people that dropped the game before, and returned to Civ 5. I would love to hear your thoughts now regarding this game in its current state.
Lol hilarious! And nice showcase! But do you loose the levied units if someone else becomes the suzrain or do you still keep them for 30 turns?
You have to carry on with this play through. Domination victory by the end of the medieval era assured...
"It's actually insane!" -Marbozir 2019
best one video showcase ever!
That is brilliant! Can't wait to get my hands on it, I imagine it won't always go quite to plan... Also I wonder how long you can keep it up until the entire world is at war with you! Sounds like a hell of a fun game though!! :D
i love the way marbs says "construction"
I am not sure I understand the pearl of the danube ability. So the district as to be on a river, but it has the side which doesnt have the city center on? Does it have to be adjacent to the city center still?
I wanna ask something... does the ability "pearl of the danube" requires a flooded river area? Or ordinary river line will do?
Would love to see you do a full game with Hungry and see how fast you can do world domination
@ 27:34 it looks like when you move your swordsman adjacent to the city the loyalty pressure flips in the other direction... I don't recall this being a thing, but it always frustrated me when I had 6 armies surrounding a city an the city is still able to flip. It never made sense in real life terms , so I hope they changed this so that adjacent units also apply some level of loyalty pressure
... maybe it just finally was updating though....
You don't need to keep checking the city state tab to see if you're first meet. If you are the 1st meet 3 icons will pop up on the right instead of the normal 2.
who needs battering rams when you have thousands of dudes who can just kind of knock on the door at the same time?
dawg you razed the hanging gardens
Impressive empire size Marb, obtained through totally peaceful and legitimate means.
This is to funny... thank you marbs for saving my day😂
Kind of reminds me of Germany in Civ 5 but with no upkeep, no resource cost and the combat bonuses this just takes it to the extreme. What were they thinking?
Settling on luxury resources and strategic resources is actually really good! You get the bonus yield and the resource itself, without having to work a tile (it's just on your city center!)
What map settings do you use to get map generation like, I typically get very few rivers in my games?
realy liking ur vids xD
What happens if someone were to steal the suzerain status from you while you have troops levied? Do you keep troops, or do they return to the city state?
Marbozir: Hello ThereMe in My mind: General Kenobi
What does the giant death robot classifide into? Cause if you can upgrade a unit into giant death robot, basically you can bypass the 3 uranium cost to build it
The funniest thing was that geographical names and formations were actually properly displayed. The river Tisza joined up with the Danube at the sea, and the Kőrös river joined up with Tisza at proportionally the correct location, and the Carpathian Mountains were properly laid in a circle around the Basin, and in it there were vine and wheat :D And Miskolc had iron, which is funny because Miskolc is the City of Steel of Hungary XD
Now that is the ultimate attention to details on the part of the random map generator.
You could have easily kept that first city. A governor would solve the loyalty problem long enough for you to capture the other cities.
Would you 'balance' this by getting rid of the movement speed bonus?
23:54 Marbs is thanos confirmed 😂
I'm not a Civ 6 player, but I am getting the impression that the theme of this expansion is not natural disasters so much as power creep. :D
ramela I’d much rather they add really strong and unique civs and buff the existing ones to fit in rather than the alternative
ah, it gets even better when you get to their special units :) and when your settler spawns ON a geyser :) (yes you can settle them, best tile to settle in the game - plains hills geyser next to a river - and hungary has bias to have them around)
Late game, do you have to pay the resource upkeep on units you levy from a city state? Just curious, since if you don't then that ability is absolutely absurd, since it'd give you a big power spike early game and late game, while still being powerful mid game as well.
I honestly don't even know how you counter that early game rush from Hungary. You have to either compete for city states early, attack city states early (and hope you kill them before Hungary starts his assault) or you have to just turtle and hope he has bad tactics, or attacks someone else. Regardless it seems like you'd fall behind, since while you're doing all of that, he can just play normally, since he doesn't really have to waste production on building his own army early on.
What's your favorite of the new civs so far?
Hungary can turn into an Empire
Once again.:)
@@Boborjan1986 It was just Austria. Hungary was a puppet.
@@notyourdad361 Independent Hungarian Kingdom was a regional power, we don't need those inbred Habsburgs. 'Austria-Hungary' was a joke.
Finally, someone who plays hungary and his not german! This civ is by far, the best in the extension (in theory) in my opinion.
This is actually insane!
No way it's correct to raze that first city that had the hanging gardens, it will flip but we can easily get it back later once we conquer Sweden (so pretty much instantly).
Quiz:
How many "Swordsman" can you squeeze in 30min episode? xD
Another gr8 video. Thanks m8~!
What about settling on the wheat tile so you have 4 tiles for the Pearl of the Danube?
Why would you raze that city? Even if you cant keep it, just leave it as a free city until you took Stockholm and then reconquer it. Then it will have enough loyalty to not flip until you took out the rest of Sweden. Or you, just take 2 or 3 cities at the same turn, with that many units and without walls that would be no problem.
Just to loose the hanging gardens...:"Ddd
@@attilakonetsny6155 yes and you can't even rebuild the wonder anymore after it got destroyed. Which is annoying because that was the only way to make a terrible Petra city disappear. The developers said they adjusted the AI to make this more unlikely but in my first game of Gathering Storm Canada built a St. Basils Cathedral on the only tundra tile available in that city....
I lost it at "Nice General" :D
Is civ 6 actually fun now Marbz?
you sound like Borat Very Very Nice!!!
The foreign ministry government plaza building would synergize incredibly with this civ
If you take all of the levied units from the city states, aren't they become vulnerable to others? I mean can't a third party kill the city state while you use them against your enemy? And what happens to the levied troops when their owner city state gets captured/razed?
Did you actually finish all of those games with other civilizations before starting a new one?
Hungary's my go-to pick for my first game of GS, and this just reaffirms what I've thought about them.
By the way, when settling your capital, you missed out on a +3 campus. The extra science you get from rationalism outweighs the discount from Hungary's UA (do the math), and you didn't get any additional danube tiles from moving two tiles out. I would've crossed the river up north and settled there, imo.
Go ahead and ban that civ from multiplayer
I think Eleanor of Aquitaine is worse. Your cities just will 'join' to her empire...
@@sectorgovernor Very late though, and she's weak early. Hungary is probably worse than Scythia in multiplayer.
Looking forward to Hungary now.
I like that Sweden's last ditch attempt to fight back was to hire a citystate army of her own
Drinking game: if Marbozir says "insane" or "crazy", drink. Enjoy.
Are you trying to kill us?
And "nuts"
Award for title that looked like clickbait but really wasn't goes to ... Marbs!
This must be what the late bronze age collapse felt like
Beautiful. :)
Can you please do a video of Eleanor of Aquitaine? I don't enjoy watching 2 hours of borong game play by the defs. I rather enjoy your style of videos nthat somehow gives way more insight. Im excited to see loyalty war
I don't think the word "insane" has enough been repeated in this video. So let me go one more time: This is actually insane!
The only problems I have with this video:
1. be careful who and when you raze a city. the warmonger penalty can hurt friendships
2. you probably won’t want to destroy a whole civilization, since that makes you lose tourists (just for consideration)
3. I am way to envious of civ 6 gathering storm. you make me wish Christmas was way earlier
noice video tho 👌
