    Tbh, I think you're playing Hungary too much like a normal civ. I have already won 3 games as Hungary on deity and their strength is that they can conquer the world WITHOUT focusing on military. The play is to use the extra production towards districts across rivers to sim city really quickly towards campuses and commercial hubs and then just levy city states. Rush for iron at the beginning to make sure you can get early swordsmen. I was able to win a conquest deity game only building 3 of my own units and I was suzerain of all city states by the midgame. Even in the case that there is no good target for your levied units you still get the extra envoys and you can use their units extra movement to rapidly explore the map and clear barb camps for gold. IMO Hungary are OP after my three games with them.

    • @madmartigan1498

    • @VariaVespasa
      @VariaVespasa 5 лет назад +8

      Its save all your pennies, dont spend anything you dont have to, beeline to swordsman tech, do city-state quests for envoys while hunting barb camps for cash, get Amani as your first governor, and when youre nearly at swordsman tech put Amani in the citystate you have the most envoys in that has not been in a war that her effect will make you suzerain of, levy their troops for a further 2 envoy advantage, upgrade, and curbstomp the everliving crap out of the nearest civ with 6 swordsman while theyre still going "wait, what?" If you can get 2 city states then even better.

    • @PotatoMcWhiskey
      @PotatoMcWhiskey  5 лет назад +2

      I'm of the opinion that the +50% production towards districts is not entirely worth changing how you settle your cities, since its only applies to a small amount of the total production your cities will genetate across and entire game. So I'd rather have objectively more optimal cities than play around a small bonus.

    for 1 more hammer you lost 3 district slots for the pearl of danube. but more broadly as hungary the easiest way to win this game is to find 1-2 city states, get the +2 envoys for first envoy and amani and then save gold. Research should aim to get iron. Once you have iron just raise two CS worth of free super swordsmen and conquer your nearest neighbor. after that basically anything is possible. probably the second easiest civ after maori.

    The very start of the video kind of turns me off. I really enjoy your videos, but a common trope I hear from you (especially in Emporer or Immortal games) is "Oh, in Deity I would've done this" and then proceed to play loosely. I'm all for playing this game to have fun, but from the very start, it seems like you didn't read the most powerful ability this Civ offers. Placing your cities to be maximally effective as a stand-alone city is completely fine if you have 3 cross river tiles to build Campus, Commercial Hub X District on and start powering out infrastructure. That leads you to the mid-game in a position to kill everyone with Black Army and levied units, or just start taking over all city-states with massive gold income. I wouldn't sleep on the power of half off districts and district buildings. This Civ is a powerhouse with that in mind. You are a REALLY GOOD player and your content is great and could be that much better with just a little bit more time taken to make decisions :)
    It may be worth it to consider taking time on live stream to pause and reassess the map, state of the game, and strategy every once and a while to make sure you don't lose focus, then for RUclips, you can just cut the fluff and get right back to the gameplay. Well informed decisions with comprehensive gameplay :) Keep going after it, man!

  • @NitroOfficiel

    I had the same problem than you with barbarian. There are now two type of games: one where you don't found a single barbarian, and the other where you are dealing with every barbarian ever. I think they messed up the spawn system and they all appear at one place on the map.

  • @mmccarthy9458
    @mmccarthy9458 5 лет назад

    Jeremy is right, the challenge is to keep all of the city-states alive and free of occupation around you until you can collect 500 gold or so, and then levy and steamroll your nearest 1 or 2 neighbors. There is literally nothing they can do against your 10-12 buffed kamikaze swordsmen you upgraded for ZERO gold and iron.

    As a Hungarian, I was really excited to play as Hungary. I love the themes in the music and I did manage to win a deity game too. However, based on the first couple games (I played them on Emperor and Immortal too) the Hungarian spawn bias seems to be: "Terrible with some thermal fissures." which makes the early game and especially the first few turns just painful. Maybe I just got really unucky all times I tried, but I rarely got a decent hills or forests spawn. :/
    That said, if you can get going, and get one or two city states, you can absolutely slaughter your neighbours, as early as swordsmen.

    I don't see why you don't like that start location, it has a lot going for it...floodplains and two volcanoes will skyrocket base tile yields, at the cost of destruction, so get liang with reinforced materials in there and profit. Tobacco gives you your pantheon without slotting god king, or faster if you do. Later on, you can get housing and amenities from a dam, and a hydroelectric dam plus a geothermal plant on the geothermal fissure will give the city all the renewable energy it will ever need. I can see a tile in range that can have as many as 5 mines around it for industrial zone adjacency ( 2 of those would need to be in another city however). That single desert tile on its own between the volcanoes is a potential pyramids spot, so you've got the option for that wonder. Theres also a +4 campus spot in range. Overall that start seems pretty decent, ive certainly had far far worse

    Why didnt u go for the +4 campus in Gyor, between the two fissures liek u can get at least 2 campuses with plus +4 just with the fissures. Not to mention it's by the river so U get bonus production as well.

      He thought Everest is considered a mountain, and thus that place could have been a +5, but it's not. The tile between the 2 fissures doesn't get production boosted, only tiles next to the city that are on the opposite side of a river do. That's why he should have settled the cap one tile west and Győr one tile north, where it would have 5 river tiles around it utilizing the district production bonus.

    What a dumb idea to settle on place. You want to use yours boost to production of districts across the river. But you only have one spot instead of 3

      I tried that before and got shitstomped, keep watching and you'll see why I'm reticent.
      I consistently have the AI simply steal the CS away from me when I try stuff like that. So I'm going for a more consistent push.

  • @DaniilShevelev

    Imho, a rather poor play, some bad choices, e.g.:
    1. Not crossing the river.
    2. Not attacking the barb scout with the slinger but walking around it.
    3. Not settling the 2nd city in the river fork which would give 5 bonus district tiles vs. just 2.
    I am sure there are many more if I kept watching...
    I checked the Maori videos too - similar mistakes.
    Watching this might be interesting to noobs, not so much for anyone who knows how to play Civ.

      Yes, I love Potato and his vids, but this game (or at least this episode), he made some non optimal plays. I know he doesn't value the unique +50% production ability, but I don't see why. It's not like he would have to give up anything to utilize it. Oh yes, not settling on a hill, but 1 production vs 3 disctricts and buildings boosted by 50% doesn't seem the right move to me. When I played as Hungary I did go for these boosted positions and went for a lot of commercial hubs + markets. With those building faster, my income was crazy early on and it was so easy to levy CS units and roll over enemies with them upgraded.

    what is the reason for building a builder and reseach animal husbandery with no tiles to improve, u start improving a plain from 1-1 to 2-1 and picking that tiles over ur newly accuried salt which yield 2-1-1 .
    u could have build a scout and been looking for more CS and then straigth into a settler
    u just spendt 9 turns producing a builder and u gained nothing besides missing out on CS and tribal huts
    I dont get it

    Your mouse is kinda weird, looks slow and a bit out of sync. Also, why not settle your capital across the river? It has a lower yield, but you'd be able to build 3 districts faster.
    edit: the audio also seems a bit out of sync
