    Btw Whiskey when you're trading strategic resources to an AI they will initially (most of the time) say they will only accept 1 gold per turn. However, if you increase the amount of gold yourself and then ask what they will accept then the true acceptance value will be shown - I've found it's a pretty useful way to generate money during the early game and snow balling because of it...

    Unfortunatelty the river bonus doesn't work like you think. It only counts for tiles across a river AND adjacent to the city center.

  • @ieattables

    I'm far from qualified to give you strategic advice Potato, but I do at least have some thoughts to share. I think your play in this game is falling a little short of your usual level for a few reasons:
    1) I think you're rushing yourself a bit more than usual. Maybe this is for the entertainment side, you don't want to be sitting and thinking for ages while recording, but you're missing things and making careless mistakes as a result. Things like not spotting much better campus locations (you bought your way to a +3 campus when there was a free +5 in range), not paying enough attention to trade deals and potential to make much needed money through them, forgetting to take the flanking civic for so long etc. Several minor things, but they add up.
    2) while I agree with not overly relying on city states (I have noticed the ai is MUCH fonder of trying to remove your suzeranty the moment you go to war with them in this expansion), I think exploiting Hungary's district over river bonus a little more would have helped. +50% production is a lot, essentially cutting 1/3rd off the build times of many districts potentially. On the other hand I'm not 100% sure about this one, it's still worth taking a good adjacency bonus but I'd probably say sacrificing 1 point of adjacency for campuses is worth it for cutting out 1/3rd of the build time for the campus and Library.
    That said, I do agree you've gotten some rotten luck in this game. This is turning into quite a brutal game for you just because of the barbarians and other factors. I feel like there's a significant bug in how barbarians are spawned, possibly something like it's only spawning them on one continent or something weird like that.

    • @jeremyjones2361
      @jeremyjones2361 5 лет назад +2

      I'd say with hungary it's worth it to go for the river bonuses and ignore adjacency. You get so much extra yield from your envoys at CS that it's much better to just have more districts and more buildings rather than good adjacency.

      i remember in one he said he is a lefty so that explains a lot of his mistakes that i have noticed. one game he was complaining about one city not having any food as he literally hovers over a pillaged orange grove which would have given him 4f yet he builds a mine and ignores it for a whole freaking video. same game he complains about no gold yet 3 times passes on building a trader in 3 turns for an aquaduct ffs. he did this quite a few times. he seems to be completely blind to certain things and having worked with a lefty it is infuriating. he continually lets barb camps just hang around yet whines about them when units rush to his cities after remarking the scout just took off after spotting his city. he has adjacency shit on lock(lefty shit) but he completely misses the common sense shit. he should know by now get rid of barb camps especially since he always goes for horses first which means once researched if it pops up(and it has) he gets the rush. i watch and am incredulous how he wins when he misses so much low hanging fruit all the freaking time.

    In my experience Hungary can be really strong. For example, i had a game with having 5 envoys in turn 19 in one cs. The AI can't compete with that, but you need to find an envoy in tribal village and have an easy quest + the envoy for making contact first. That is a lot of 'if' , too many to make it reliable.

  • @JamesMichaelDoyle
    @JamesMichaelDoyle 5 лет назад +2

    You hold onto you envoys, thats why. Pump them in as a buffer before you levy

  • @isaacjohnston8831
    @isaacjohnston8831 5 лет назад +6

    You are playing this game very well but damn you are playing Hungary terribly. At turn 96 you have 2 districts across a river from a city center but both aren't even built, just placed. You've yet to levy any troops.
    50% production to a district is decent but the big thing is that its 50% to the buildings too. That's a faster market for trade routes, faster libraries for a quick early game science boost - something you were trying to do anyways.
    Levying gives you free envoys, levy Antioch then move amani to a new city state so you can control both. Then use those levied units to scout. Open border the Zulu to see what they're doing, you were slow to explore because of all of the early barbs but you could've easily had 5 swordsmen roaming for 30 turns.
    You're doing well as a player but you are not using your civ at all.

    Trading strategics is so buggy and exploitable... especially when you're a bit ahead and don't fight much. If you sell 50, they might give you 3 per turn plus 3 direct. If you give them 1, they give you... the same amount. A lot of clicking, but you can effectively rob the AI.^^
    Also, buying strategics is always cheaper 1 by 1 as well. Buy 1 - pay 5. Buy 2 - pay 20. Buy 50 - pay 200 gold per turn and 12 extra.^^

    Gotta put a strong emphasis on gold. Commercial hubs in every city. Prioritize gold.
    If you get bought out, simply buy them back. Get bought out. Buy them back again. You should be aiming to be rich in the city-state strategy. And fully upgrade Amani for the 6 envoys. Every few turns, levy a city state. Can't levy it? Put amani there, levy, then pull her out in the same turn.
    Gold is more important than science, culture, or faith.
    You wanna be levying every few turns. And you want to put heavy emphasis on the Pearl of the Danube ability to get your districts online quick. Everytime you have enough gold to levy, do so. That's 2 free envoys every time.

      @@PotatoMcWhiskey That someone didn't read the ability. You can even see in this video. At 11:10 you place the encampment of Székesfehérvár and once placed it's still shows 22 turns to build - same as in the list of districts before placing. However a minute later when placing a comm hub of Eger, once placed the before shown turns to build reduces because it is placed on the river opposite of the city center.
