"Third Ave and Third Street is a navigational nightmare" Meanwhile in Woodside NY, with 60th Dr, 60th Pl, 60th Ave, 60th Ln, 60th Ct, and 60th St all either intersecting or within two blocks of each other.
And here I thought my city was bad with having four streets with the exact same name all intersecting each other, or the amount of streets we have that just randomly end and start again several kilometres in some arbitrary direction, or the amount that randomly change names mid-block with no signage
I love how the storytelling moved from the political justification for your game choices to the personnal life of the characters. We're going to end up needing a wiki with the characters and their lives. And possibly some people writting fanfictions about them.
That seems like a decent idea. I would love to do that in my free time someday... I believe fandom will be the correct place to write this... I'll try to do this in the near future...
Phil bro! ... Just keep making this series... I'll like to see the population of Magnolia County upto 500k, or better still a million, if your PC allows :p ...
I see nothing wrong with using Find It to get those signature buildings, this isn't a min-max playthrough. Your city is the perfect mix of beautiful and functional, and I look forward to each episode so much!
I do it too sometimes, especially as it also lets you place them multiple times which comes in handy for the signature row homes (to actually use them in a row, which can't be done in vanilla)
Some things to consider for the new pond: With the sides all being walled off, its going to prevent pretty much everything but birds and bugs from living around and in that pond. It also can create a bit of a public safety issue with the path along the wall where if someone fell in (especially a child or other assisted living persons) they would have no way they could get out. Having sloped embankments can provide a nice transition for wildlife and vegetation to grow and live, which also provides a nice buffer for runoff and erosion. It also reduces the possibility for someone to fall in, and be unable to escape. Its my opinion but this generally looks better as well, I've typically mostly seen the walled off version in more commercial settings.
exactly, it looks more like a reservoir than a pond, it's too brutalist for the centerpiece of a neighborhood. but you made a good point about it also being dangerous, there is a reason why reservoirs are fenced off or have slopped walls, it's so it doesn't become a death trap for anything that falls in it.
0:32 Someone at air traffic control needs to get yelled at or fired for that. There is no way anyone paying attention would have cleared the olive plane to taxi to the runway like that with the teal plane coming in.
It could also be pilots not following instructions (e.g. the departing aircraft interpreted the "line up behind" as "line up and wait"). Regardless, someone's going to be given a phone number to call for that near miss!
Absolutely thrilled to see such a desireable new neighborhood get good bus access! Two pointers about the route, however: 1: Buses and trains are best if they complement each other, and if your route only has to travel 1 extra block to have a direct stop at the train station, it most often will! Having the new bus route stop right at the same stop as the other one in front of the university train station helps interconnectivity, supports transfers between bus lines better, and reduces confusion for passengers. 2: The bus travels basically all of downtown bend already before making it's first stop coming from the bridge; can you imagine how frustrating it would be as a passenger to drive right past your destination in downtown and then have to walk 6 blocks to it? I know you probably don't like adding a bus stop on an arterial but in reality I think you'd see a bus stop right after/before the bridge, especially since this is part of downtown already! Really hope you can make these two small changes, as they'd improve both realism as well as make taking the bus way more convenient for your citizens Either way, I'm super hyped to see what sort of Development Bend is going to go through next, I'm fully on James' side that Bend should be the main city in the county, and hope to see Downtown Bend go through more upgrades in density!
With the retention pond, an approach taken in the UK is not to quay wall it and keep it very natural and use it as a means to improve the natural environment and stuff. It's normally a main selling point of them (to my limited a-level student knowledge). Also, in a neighbourhood like this there might be retention ditches running alongside roads to help carry that water to the pond. I'm having to keep myself from fulling nerding out here but I love the idea, keep these videos coming!
someone else also made a really good point, it's also very dangerous. the ways the walls are designed it's basically a death trap for anything that falls in it, specially with the paths alongside it.

Given that he did all the legwork and backroom deals before mentioning anything to her, it's a pretty small improvement. I'm with the wife in feeling like he put her between a rock and a hard place with how he asked. Feels like going from behind her back to being manipulative.
I think that adding something that resembles cherry blossoms around the retention pond would make it look similar to the Tidal Basin in Washington DC. DC is replanting a ton of cherry trees after they repair and upgrade the seawalls so this could pay homage to the trees they're removing.

my only problem is the pond, it doesn't look like a pond, it looks like a reservoir, it looks a bit brutalist and lifeless for something that is supposed to be a leisure space. I say remove the quay wall and break the geometry so it looks more like a natural lake. also I'm not sure why you don't use more mixed housing. the lake front homes sound perfect for mixed housing. who wouldn't love to sit in a small cafe or deli with a view of the lake ?
Yea, seems too formal for the area it's in, and kinda big for a pond? Although eyeballing it compared to the high school sports field, maybe it's like 2.5 football fields? 250-300 meters? When does a large pond become a small lake??? 😂 Reminds me of the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial in DC in terms of the style with the quay walls - just the formality of it
@@3badgersinatrenchcoat i legitimately love it though, if it's well taken care of, it could be a really nice leisure space. What a wonderful addition to Magnolia County. The only thing I did not like was the quay-walled pond. I think it should have sloped embankments. At first, I wasn't sure I was enjoying the characters and storyline in these videos, but man, I am here for the drama! Great video. I would have gladly watched the longer version of the build.
I believe that the Bridge St. Bridge should be either a cable-stayed bridge or a suspension bridge. Consider this: it leads directly into downtown and should serve as a representation of the city of Bend. The current newly built bridge looks no different from the other bridges that cross the river. The City Council of Bend should ensure that the newly built Bridge St. Bridge is regarded as the "Gem of the City," unique to the City of Bend, especially given the amount of money the city has invested in improving its infrastructure. Perhaps something similar to the newly constructed Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington, DC. This bridge significantly improved the city's aesthetic and includes pedestrian pathways that connect the trails and Riverwalk parks on both sides of the river, catering to active runners and bicyclist.
Id love to see more of an isolated/co-op, like bailey, farming community placed in the county. Especially now with loss of production with the new development. A place for people like chuckles and the farmers who wouldn't sell
absolutely a fan of using find it to place the signature buildings. Unlocking them either requires a lot of cheesing or abandoning plans. 👍 though I'm not a fan of that "Groovin' with Gary" song... the vocals are just kinda shrill and grating. 👎
This is the first one of these I've watched and I was gobsmacked at how good it was. I spend hours of my free time looking at old maps, following roads on Google Maps and seeing where they used to go, going back and to between developed land and how it looked like historically, so I loved being able to watch you roleplay that here especially with those insane transitions at the end. Thank you!
I just want to let you know that i really enjoy your videos. You are someone i look forward to watching routinely and watching magnolia county develop into such a big city with your commentary makes my evenings time and time again. Also you are so calm and i feel seen watching your vids which i know sounds weird, but it's kinda crazy how you make me as a viewer feel so engaged and involved.
You kinda skimmed over it, but the clinic was full up in Bend downtown. Perhaps had some relief now with the new clinic, but I would perhaps expand that. And then the mail as well, your handling capacity is not keeping up, so glad you put a new port office in, but it seems you might want to deal with that handling capacity.
I don't know why but I absolutely adore those new twin apartments on either side of Bridge Street on the Bend side. They really add character to that area.
Coming from a place called Franklin where this is actually happening to the rural landscape (and community), I am not a fan of James. However, I LOVE THIS SERIES. thank you CPP
Would love to see Bridge street eventually get Bend's first light rail transit. It's a perfect spot for it, and would provide a crucial link between East Bend and Bend. An awful lot of episodes are just sprawl based developments, so the focus on densification of Bend is a welcome change from the usual. Hopefully we see a little more. I also think it would've been cool in the last episode to leave the scars of the old train lines you deleted and converted them maybe to pedestrian trails. But, too late for that. Looking forward to seeing where Magnolia County goes, enjoying the content!
I just realized, after 2 years watching your channel, that when you're basically working on the channel! You are a city planner You are playing city builder games You try to be realistic You could apply some decisions taken on the game to real projects You're working! 😅
Watching the Bridge St. bridge spanning a wider portion of the river, I couldn't help but feel like an island (albeit man-made) might be fitting somewhere along the span. I think it'd open up some opportunity to get more creative w/ the bridge, not to mention could serve as a really neat place for some public and/or private amenities (park, entertainment, etc) situated between the new development and Downtown Bend.
Watching these videos have made playing the game more fun. Thinking about my city from a connectivity perspective. Letting it grow more slowly instead of massive growth really fast. Now I just need to pay attention to controls on things like Move It. Didn't realize you could raise and lower height which will be a game changer for a city I'm working on now.
the way you tell stories makes me watch these videos even though i am not a huge cs2 fan, but your planning and layouts make it a fun watch. and ofcourse im a huge fan of detailing regardless of whether it's cs1 or 2.
I love watching these, tha backstory for each episode jus brings it all together, with a 90s soap feel. Lol. Keep doin ur thing man. Can wait for the next one.
Your discussion of "3rd Ave." vs "3rd St." is so funny because as a firefighter in a medium midwest city, having several same-named streets throughout the city with "Drive", "Avenue", "Street", "Road" and sometimes "Place" or "Lane" too can be a nightmare when responding in the middle of the night. Also "Terrace".
Holee, that park trick is huge news to me. I love creating custom parks, and it's so frustrating that even by adding activity zones, no one really uses them. This changes everything for me now.
James Jones is going to drive his wife away into the arms of a better man due to his obession to 1-Up former governor Sheila Johnson. They're relationship is going downhill so fast.
I wish the bridges were more decorated for vanity! Nothing crazy or historic just a lil character that modern cities would do. Amazing build though, I used to live in Boston/Cambridge and it's making me miss that place a lot
I’m really hoping the bridges are improved and beautified in the future. Bridges are a hallmark of a city’s skyline and the current bridges leave something to be desired.
Can you put path bridges over that pond? It would provide more walkable connections to both schools and the commercial area from people living on the other side, plus it would be a nice feature for the people who live there.
James sees progress and that is a plus and he is even asking for permission, if anything this all being well will bring more to their community and pockets! Love the story of MC and here for the future of the series. Would love to see more density pop up with the increase in population, office and cooperate jobs might relocate due to possibly lower taxes and availability of jobs in bend
Sugestions: The names of the streets of the new "urban" Franklin district, could it be names of fruits or fruit trees, because there was a farm zone. .. and change Franklin to MacDonald :D (kidding this one) The lake could have a circuit for little boats or pedal boats. Nice video as always
The split road in Franklin (near the railroad tracks) is awesome. It reminds me of Garden Ridge Blvd in Lewisville TX, just south of Justin Rd. I would recommend adding two lanes on each side though, so that there's a passing lane (especially if there's an accident or something, or if emergency vehicles need to get through).
Superb designing and building! Your professional background give you a lot of knowledge that us mere plebs don't have. Some of us struggle with making a beautiful looking city because we don't have your knowledge! I'd love to see a video on starting just one area of a new city with step by step road building along with the reasoning behind each step. I get road hierarchy, but have difficulty in puting it into practise and making a great road system. Thanks for everything you do in your videos.
I feel a bit off about the key walls used around the retention pond. Unless it will be a foot deep reflection pool or dry for most of the year, there could be a big problem with loose pets, wildlife or even people falling into the pond and drowning. I suggest leaving at least one side as a grassy slope for a way to get out or in for maintenance. I really like the merging of the elementary and high school buildings and facilities. The elementary school now looks like the kind of McMansion houses we built in Sims 1 when we were kids 😆 The high school has a lot of open space left for small sports facilities. Right now you could add tennis and basketball decals that should fit in
seeing the whole area made me realize how few bridges we have in the biggest cities here compared to bend! The capital has only 2 bridges linking it to the other side of the river and then the next bridges are hours away...
Nice neighborhood. Where you moved the small parking on Cozy St back a ways, you could put some decals for disabled or EV parking spots. They won't get used in-game but you could place a vehicle prop there to make it appear in use.
That is one sweet neighborhood. I especially like the addition of the pond :D Though, you need to redraw the bus line that cuts right through the custom parking!
@cityplannerplays I feel like you are putting out your best content to date! That was a really impressive episode. I love how you are making incremental thoughtful improvements and development. Killing it!
I’m pretty sure with the water elevation tool you click and move the cursor to your chosen contour line and that’s what changes the height. Great vid as always 🤌🏻
That pond is going to be great for ice skating in the winter! 🚌 Oh, and I really think there should be a bus service on bridge street, its a straight shot into Bend, maybe have it turn down the couplet in Franklin and end at the university train station.

Considering what the massive headache that the Canadian rail strike is going to give me at work, I really need to buy a "Struggle is Rail" mug.
Coming from a place called Franklin where this is actually happening to the rural landscape (and community), I am not a fan of James. However, I LOVE THIS SERIES. thank you CPP
It’s a good day when you come home from work and there’s a new magnolia county video
I absolutely LOVE the lore on this. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the series!!!!
It's so cool to see a community come to life like this and feel like it's always been there.
A.) I love the details included in the story elements in your videos. It’s so real and relatable.
B.) Jamila is the killer of James’s dreams😂
Bro the writing for this is getting wild!! Such fun lore for the expansion of the city. Feels real.
The detailed story telling take priority over waiting for signature buildings. If it fits the story and the area cheese to your heart's content!
Watching this series has really changed the way I look around when I drive in my home town. Love the great content! Much love.
You are a city planner
You are playing city builder games
You try to be realistic
You could apply some decisions taken on the game to real projects
You're working! 😅
The neighborhood trees look amazing with all the fall colors.
I'm not a big fan of that bridge.
The new neighborhood is beautiful! Are we going to see alternative agricultural development to sustain the population growth?
I really like the way the bridge clips into the buildings and the narrow 4-lane road itself. It reminds me of W Burnside in Portland, OR
The area on the inside of center street and the ramp seems a very natural place for a retention pond. Love the series, been watching channel for years
Watching the Bridge St. bridge spanning a wider portion of the river, I couldn't help but feel like an island (albeit man-made) might be fitting somewhere along the span.
Hi City Planner! Thank you for the Birds Eye view of the city to show where the build is! This really helped me know where we are on the map.
Looks great. I like how you expanded the schools and added the diner. The pond looks nice w the row homes
I think a decorative fishing pier or pedestrian bridge over the pond would be a great addition to the area.
Holee, that park trick is huge news to me. I love creating custom parks, and it's so frustrating that even by adding activity zones, no one really uses them. This changes everything for me now.
I’ve never been a big city skylines person but everyday I’m hoping a new episode of this series pops up
James Jones is going to drive his wife away into the arms of a better man due to his obession to 1-Up former governor Sheila Johnson. They're relationship is going downhill so fast.
I love this serie, your storytelling, thank you for letting us enjoy it with yuou
Franklin looks great! Give the main trough road a statue as a focus point. That place just ouzes Statueenergy.
Its awesome to start to see the different parts of the city mixing together.
I play your videos every night to relax me before bed...the probably is I get super invested and I can't watch just one!
Sugestions:
The names of the streets of the new "urban" Franklin district, could it be names of fruits or fruit trees, because there was a farm zone.
.. and change Franklin to MacDonald :D (kidding this one)
The lake could have a circuit for little boats or pedal boats.
I adore these videos man, not a single dull moment, so much knowledge!
Right now you could add tennis and basketball decals that should fit in
58:45 the bus taking a short-cut through the parking lot haha
Loved this build!!!!! Its a really gorgeous development
seeing the whole area made me realize how few bridges we have in the biggest cities here compared to bend! The capital has only 2 bridges linking it to the other side of the river and then the next bridges are hours away...
Love to see you reuse the old trees.
I'm so lost in the story, but I love the way you tell it anyway 😅 Thank you for keeping the series engaging!
These planned neighborhoods are my favorite videos!
anyone just feel so relaxed watching these?
Just noticed and maybe been watching too many vids from RCE, but good to see you adopting the strongest shape mildly into the layout of the area
I'm 100% fine with the signature buildings thing. I am a strong believer in "do what you want forever" :p
Hooray for fences! I’m from the Bay Area and live in LA. Fences are around nearly every private property and school.
Nice neighborhood. Where you moved the small parking on Cozy St back a ways, you could put some decals for disabled or EV parking spots. They won't get used in-game but you could place a vehicle prop there to make it appear in use.
I'm really interested in James and Jamila's journey. Thanks for all the updates ;]
That is one sweet neighborhood. I especially like the addition of the pond :D
Though, you need to redraw the bus line that cuts right through the custom parking!
@cityplannerplays I feel like you are putting out your best content to date! That was a really impressive episode. I love how you are making incremental thoughtful improvements and development. Killing it!
I just love this channel! It's one of the main ones I watch.
Magic as always. ”Like a PRO” in the headline you not like a PRO you are a PRO!
You, @Infrastructurist and @Keralis are the reasons i play this game. Thank you for all the content!
I like the bridge! But perhaps it could use some sort of truss or other decoration?
PLEASE make some Magnolia County merch w/ some flames in the background lol it only seems right 🤣
I love the video output this last weeks! It seems you found the fun in the Game again with these new mods.
Keep up the great work!
