Very interesting, I gotta try Mali for myself sometime.
Though a little irksome thing I noticed is how you were placing districts. Using the mountains for the holy site does net +1 faith compared to your other options, but it also means you won't get a +3 campus, and holy sites are also used for the extra adjacency towards sugubas. Considering how this game meant you had to give up potentially building the Great Zimbabwe in exchange for the +2 adjacency, the problem really came down to the holy site placement.

I know this is a strange request, but could you turn on yields for your next video? You do a good job explaining a lot, and I know yield icons can be viewed in the city view, but seeing them on the map makes it better to understand what you're doing and why you're settling where you are.

Heres what I did and it was fantastic. Get as much desert and desert flood plains/ desert hills in your capital, river if you can mountain works with aqueduct. Get the +2 gold pantheon for each desert tile. Build mines over desert hills, thats 6 gold per a mine. Maximize adjacency bounces with holy sites and commerce hubs, preferably with another city close by. Get the old lady Governor that gives the +2 gold and appeal per an unimproved tile, now normal desert tiles will have +4. Build Petra, +2 more gold and you pretty much have a super capital at this point with mines giving you +8 gold. Send trade routes only from your capital or city with the most desert, I've gotten around +20 gold per a turn form trade routes originating from my capital. Also focusing on faith be sure to get tithe and anything that increases gold production.
Pretty fun way to play, buy out literally everything.

Well, there are a lot of features and changes I REALLY like, but I haven't even played through one full game from start to finish yet, so it's hard to say for sure.
For me personally, a lot will depend on the modding scene, and also on whether the game will get opened up more, because right now it's not possible to mod Civ 6 to the extent Civ 5 can be modded (.dll mods for example are not currently possible).

Combining Jesuit Education, Reyna and Moksha's tier 3 abilites as Mali will allow you to buy all districts with faith or gold, Campus, Commercial and Theater buildings with faith, all with gold and get a 20% discount to all those along with insane gold and faith generation. This should be a really powerful civ (at least against AI) when played correctly (probably not a beginner civ though).
Because such a large % of Mali's yields are just two resources (gold and faith) rather than all 5 that means many of those big bonuses that only apply to one resource that you pick up from like a governor or policy card is applicable to a larger portion of your empire than other civs (similarly Pingala's base ability will be most valuable to Korea). Reyna or Moksha's district buying abilities for example are great and they're worth far more to Mali than other civs since such a large % of their yields are gold/faith, as opposed to a civ that's trying to grow all 5 resources.
Buying strategies have always been strong in the game but are usually limited for most civs that don't specialize in gold/faith because they can't generate enough yields to overcome the increasing prices and governor titles, policy cards, etc you have to invest. Mali should be one of the few civs that can generate so much of those two, very flexible resources and can actually make a purchase strategy flourish.
But the bonus food their desert cities start with (and especially so if you get floodplains) should be enough to grow them through the early game when they admittedly will probably be rather weak. They'll need to watch out for getting early pushed by neighbors.

Did you notice this? About 3:50 you were one turn from border expansion to the SW of your city. You purchased a tile to the SE of the city. On the following turn you were then 16 more turns from expanding to that SW space. If you are close to getting a new tile, sometimes it's worth waiting to purchase new tiles.

If Civ VI had slavery like Civ IV, he would have a slavery bonus as well. Where did he get all that gold from? Oh, man.. in Civ IV, slavery plus good food tiles = OP. The Earth 1000AD was not good for Mansa Musa. While he was along flood plains, there was no food tiles arounds, and with low production, you had to farm the flood plains intead of cottage them.

You shoulda been a bit more aggressive on the settling. You took early amenities penalties, and you could have solved that by making settlers. Further, you could have easily used said settlers to claim the extremely valuable desert tiles to your west, cutting off the inca and securing the valuable natural wonder (as well as numerous lake and river desert tiles, which are stupid good, especially for a civ like Mali that synergizes so amazingly well with them)

MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION! WHAT ABOUT THE AI?? Can it war like Civ 5 now? Can it maintain a standing army past turn 150? Can the AI siege cities? Can it actually conquer other AI's now so you have to deal with a challenging "runaway AI"? Is Deity actually hard now? If the AI is terrible I will not buy! The game is no fun if the AI is not challenging. Did they update it? If civ 6 deity is not hard, then there is no point, regardless of the new features. Does the AI still auto declare war by turn 2 regardless of anything? Does the AI conquer all the city states in the first 30 turns leaving like 4? etc etc
