      I think making Civ would be the opposite of "branching out" for PDE, seeing as their games are each a massive deep dive into what would be just one simple era in Civ
      Imagine someday having the perfect balance between the two though. A game where you have a crazy level of detail making each era feel different, yet not so much that one era takes 10 hours of gameplay. Like, if you could go through all of human history in one 10-20 hour game. Someday.

Marae only makes you even more broken as the city borders growing. Don't forget the special unit. Area debuff effect for all enemies is a huge bonus especially if you have general. On top of that you can steal settlers from city-states if they don't place the city fast.

    The interesting/tricky thing about Maori seems to be that depending on which continent you choose you can end up on a continent that the AI generated to be balanced for your civ's growth and give you ample space or you can end up on a continent that gets you cornered between 1-2-3 other civilizations that are already competing in close proximity and you get boxed off pretty early.

    I'm confused, is Galapogose not a good city to settle? Not a lot of food, but production can be gotten from the land and the science you get from those yields seem extremely profitable.

    • @xriban4363
      @xriban4363 5 лет назад +8

      You can't settle directly on the Galapogose because they're a natural wonder. The best he could do would have been to settle on the stone that was closest to it to get the 2 4 science tiles into workable tiles in that city, but he likely wouldn't have been able to get the turtles then. I'm not sure if there were other factors in his decision, but the Galapogoes are really hard to position your cities around to get the most benefit out of them.

    • @brcoutme
      @brcoutme 5 лет назад +7

      Settling on the stone, he would have been able to get a TON of science from the Galapogose. The problem is that it might have problems growing (and very poor production), which would make the science 'possibility' mostly null and void. One solution would be rushing the governor that with upgrades allow you to build fisheries. I was serious upset that he didn't settle for it, but truth be told it is reasonable for him not to, due to how weak the city would be.

    • @0xc0ffee_
      @0xc0ffee_ 5 лет назад +2

      @@GrantSweatshirt There's a really good series on youtube that explains each district separately. Basically civilization 6 is fun because of districts. Because you actually need to place your cities correctly and each city has to specialise in something different.
      That said, generally speaking (not for all civilizations), the port has an adjacency bonus
      +1 gold for each adjacent costal resource
      +1 gold for every 2 adjacent districts
      +2 gold if adjancent to the city center
      +1 gold if adjacent to the market
      I went by memory so I'm not sure of it but you can check on the wiki.

    It surprises me that city-states start with a settler. I always assumed they were just a fixture of the map.
    There is an amusing thing one can do with early settlers. Playing as Rome on a small, true start Earth map, put down your first city (you may have to move one tile east for this to work; I can't remember). Greece or Macedon won't be able to put down their initial city due to proximity. So you wander over with your warrior, and... free settler(s)! So now, I have to wonder if it's possible to do that with any city-states....

    What I'm curious about is if anyone would try to build a couple of strong scouts with the Maori. I think their promotion tree has something like +20 strength, but most times scouts get bopped pretty quickly. I think they gain exp from discovering tiles and tribal villages and with the Maori ability to embark right away they'll see much less threat sailing across the seas in the early game.

      It's designed that way, you can't pick a tech untill you have settled. You however get bonus science etc. to compensate.

      @@Einomar I play maori in multiplayer all the time and I can pick one before I settle. I only play multiplayer, maybe it's different or we have a mod interfering then?

    • @jacobwiens659

      The science gets banked, so you don’t actually have to research anything. You can make a better decision based on what’s nearby your settle location, eg. animal husbandry for camp and pasture resources.

    Late but, while you are looking to settle your capital, you can still go forwards with researching, which can let you keep up in terms of the civics and sciences. However, the game won't make you pick a new one when you complete one. I didn't realize until my second play through with 'em.

    Wouldn't buying the cotton and then the turtles instead of the sea tile and then the turtles have been more productive? Also, you may still want to buy that, I've seen the AI do some quick tile acquisition when you got a city near theirs.

    The initial landmass search should be redesigned. Maybe add an approximate sonar signal/gradual "fog of war" far wider as it is now. I can't count the restarts because of sailing around antartica resulting in -15 round settlement :P And because of this deity is not an option i would even remotely consider.

    +2 science per turn but you never set your research while exploring

    • @JHawk111
      @JHawk111 5 лет назад +3

      The dev stream for this Civ actually talked about that. The 2 science per turn is banked as overflow until you settle your first city. That is why setting a research is not turn blocking like it normally is. This gives you a bit more flexibility to settle first and then research the tech you need. Culture doesn't do that because Code of Laws is the only option, so it is picked by default (just like any other Civ).
