History of Australia, Chapter One The Australian people emerged from the Outback and founded Canberra in 3960 BC. They were led by Prime Minister Curtin, who formed a Chiefdom. An explorer saw the rest of the continent and named it Oceania in 3560 BC, as well as finding the Great Barrier Reef. Australia raised sheep and made pottery as part of their craftsmanship. PM Curtin's desire to explore outside of Oceania led to a galley being built. Newcastle was founded next to the Great Barrier Reef in 3040 BC. Curtin also focused production toward the Navy and builders. He discovered a second continent named Asia, and met the nations of China, India, and Japan. He also met the city states of Kabul, Jakarta, and Seoul. Seeing pearls on the far west side of Oceania, Adelaide was founded on that spot. Meanwhile, PM Curtin made several projects to get Canberra to grow. In 2000 BC, India founded Hinduism, making Curtin worried about the influence that was going to have on Australia.

You could always build some Entertainment Complexes for Amenities, and seeing that the AI usually doesn't build those early you could even have an easy time building the Colosseum for even more amenities. Also keep in mind that Entertainment Complexes, Theatre Squares and Holy Sites also give +1 Appeal to adjacent tiles, so you should build those close to eachother as that would synergies really nicely with Australia's Civ Bonus.
Canberra being on the coast isn't ENTIRELY incorrect. The main part is entirely landlocked but there's actually a territory here in Australia called the Jarvis Bay territory that is technically a part of the ACT, that allows Canberra to have a port. Uh, I mean, harbour district.
My friend won't let me play as Australia anymore because I get the "advantage" of not having people close to me. OK maybe it's because when he builds his second city I already have like eleven ~

I've played this map with Australia and I think you've made a big mistake to move your capital in the coast. It is called Motueka, it would be so awesome if when you settle a city there or around there you could call it Motueka please.
