New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place!
this is the weirdest shit, been playing/watching civ for years and i never even expected they would actually add my own people, ultimate fookin immersion
Two videos and no war yet? This update seems to have broken quill…
Had you settled that city one more to the right, you would have been in range for tobacco and crabs aswell.
Clearly Quill not a fan of tobacco.
Or crabs.
@@drunkenhobo8020 I propose we ban crabs!
Personally I prefer it when he plays on a difficulty lower that deity. The fact that deity prevents early game wonders and pretty much the entire religious game for players just means whole sections of the game are prevented. If anything, the game becomes less interesting on deity because there's very few deity effective strategies.
That and you need to war to slow down the ai and the ai likes to surprise war you early because your military strength is so low early game.
I guess you have a point if you just want to play in a sandbox.
@@pengli4108 Wooh look out! we got a badass over here...
@@Einomar Beast has no clue. Last Deity game in GS I had ToA, Pyramids, Oracle and the Colosseum up by turn 102. Deity is the new Emperor.
and on lower difficulties he just rushes pantheons and campuses making the gameplay boring and repititive
I'm not super familiar with civ VI, so I actually find it really helpful to see the Yield icons ^^
If you're gonna settle a crappy desert island, you at least ought to get the tobacco.
Archapelago is the easiest map on deity as the ai isn't smart enough to rush shipbuilding and is really bad at building and using a navy. This prevents the ai from aggressively expanding or declaring war as they can't leave their island. The ai can be delayed even more if for some reason their island is completely surrounded by ocean tiles as they would have to tech up to cartography during the Renaissance until they could leave their island.
Actually that depends on how the map turns out, I played my first archipelago game on a map that looked much more like continents, 3 civs battling with each other on a large landmass. Ocean did not separate the huge islands, there were many "coastal bridges" and most civs not hampered by early warfare rushed Renaissance tech, so before the middle ages there were barbarian caravels roaming the oceans. I played on king difficulty.
To say the AI is horrendous in this game is an understatement. Deity difficulty isn't even worth trying on most maps because a solid 1/2 times you'll get rushed by the AI military that would be actually impossible to match.
Turn 17 war getting rushed by 6 warriors - good luck! You'd think they'd tackle some of those issues or maybe the mass of notifications in the late game but they don't see a problem for charging $40 for this DLC.
I can hold my own in Deity...but not in archipelago....get my rear end handed to me every time.
The things i'd do to play this right now...hell i'd even play as india and not nuke someone.
I sure hope there is a city called "Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu"
It might be an achievement, just like there was an achievement in Civ V for calling your city "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"
@@moramento22 It wasn't for labeling one of your cities with that long Welsh place-name, per se. Actually, it was for playing as the Celts and building enough cities to completely exhaust the list of default Celtic city names (for which Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was the last entry).
@@Ycekhold Aaaaaahhhh yes, thanks
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu is a hill not a city
@@RyknowChaosYou are not wrong. It's a hill in the Hawkes Bay region of the North Island. Regardless, my initial comment still stands.
Gotta admit the Maori soundtrack is the best I've heard so far
Anyone else not play these games and is just barely grasping what’s going on but still having fun regardless?
I play.
We've got the Empanada over here for the Apanada got a good laught out of me. Thank you quill
I was just thinking.. when you build a city, it shows you where it might flood. What if it didn't show you, and in the future your city gets bopped by the ocean?
He almost saw the good Galapagos placement... so close! (Honestly I don't know if the turtles and more land make up for the loss of science)
The Maori also get a good classical/medieval tech push, it wouldn't be unreasonable to try and grab the Inca's forward settle and still get the turtles/land.
I think Quill has something against natural wonders, he actively avoided two in the last game too xP
@@S23K I mean, that one made more sense to me, as he had tile yields off (he kept referring to that one at his south as a mountain range)
is it even possible to have good relations with anyone in this game?
Hot damn Quill, keep them coming and keep up the great work :)
Just finished my first play through with them. Dom victory, immortal, archipelago, turn 196. Super powerful civ if you scout properly and get the bonus envoy
Quill what do you hate about wonders that you actively choose not to settle near them to get the bonuses?????
And this is even one of the better ones. He is mad i tell you.
Haha, yeah, I would settle in the stone for sure for all tiles in Galapagos
If you want to see well thought out city placements, you’re watching the wrong channel. I love quills videos, but he rushes a lot of pretty important decisions.
@@haydenalbrey we know, specially on this pre-release vids
@@haydenalbrey Thing is in other games this may not be a big issue but it is quite possibly THE most important decision you make in Civ as it directly influences what you can or cannot do in the future. This is not some little mistake in perhaps what you research or what civic you start, or building you build first etc. This decision makes or breaks a game. If you want to have a gaming channel then you have a bar of rudimentary knowledge and skill that you must have or else why bother watching because you know that you're not witnessing a proper representation of the game. That's like watching a COD channel and the person not knowing how to scope in or switch weapon, etc. You cannot simply defend someone's actions because you like their personality.
Do you still get some sort of bonus for being first to circumnavigate the globe?
+4 era score for being the first, and +3 for everyone else.
I was thinking the same thing. Quill could do this quite easily
Really bothers me that he doesn’t even make an effort to do this then...
It just bothers me in general that he always auto explores.
You ought to replace that northernmost farm with an encampment.
I've noticed you're struggling to pronounce te reo maori so this should help.
Short vowels:
A as in aloud
E as in entry
I as in eat
O as in ordinary
U as in to
Long vowels:
A as in car
E as in led
I as in peep
O as in pork
U as in loot
T The ‘t’ sound depends on which vowel appears after it. When it follows an ‘a’, ‘e’ or ‘o’, pronounce it with as little sibilant sound as possible (almost like a ‘d’). When it follows an ‘i’ or ‘u’, it includes a slight sibilant sound, but not nearly as much as an English ‘t’.
R Pronounced as a soft ‘rolled’ r.
The ‘ng’ digraph is pronounced as it sounds in the English word ‘singer'.
The ‘wh’ digraph originally sounded like the ‘wh’ in ‘whisper’, but in most dialects has evolved to be more like the English ‘f’ sound.
hope this helps!
3:13 OMG DESERT!!! PETRA, QUILL PETRA!!! ;)
Thanks Paradox!
This game is overwhelming
Please play with yields on
It looks better with them off. But he should use the Y hot key every now and then when the settler or builder is selected. It's not too hard to hit the Y key.
@@jimmym3352 I like yields on for the early game (especially important when you're expanding/city planning) and off late game.
"we're not going to be destroying rainforest" abandoned after less that 2 episodes LOL
*aggressive running away*
The obligatory *Petra-hype* haha
Dude I haven't seen this much hemming and hawing since the donkeys took up sewing!
Hey quill, don’t mean to be pedantic or if someone else has said this, but marae is pronounced ma-rye, and Maori is pronounced mao-re/mo-re depending which part of nz ur from
Mao-reeeeeeeee
U have no idea how tempted i was to do that
Al Dunlop I’m an Australian
Below Average me too lol
I'm glad you're mixing in the tile yields on and off instead of just keeping them off. I can barely stand to look at the map with them off.
Man i wished the governors were more civ specific art wise. Like I wished each of their portraits and names would fit that specific civ. Like how in civ 5 the spies had names from their civilization. It would give the game more diversity. But that's just my opinion.
The spies in Civ 6 have civilization-specific names........
@@pixelgemini230 yeah i should've mentioned that too
@benjamin gonzalez
Civ specific Govs are a great idea and would add so much depth each Civ. They could easily have diff abilities/bonuses to add that min/max factor. Maybe an inclusion in a big patch in the next DLC? Or could be modded in?
I cant wait when you buy those science field next to the wonder
I am surprised you didn't try Pingala First with the huge boost to Science and Culture can be OP in the early game.
Since you are kinda isolated you could grow tall which seems to be what Pingala is all about in this expansion.
Connoisseur is the main plan to get +1 culture per citizen... that is kinda a big deal.
2 hours to go till the rest of us can play this game unless your country conflicts with the release time :(
SWEAR I hear Sid Meier's Pirates, your people are constantly singing - hehe.
Yeah Moari music sounds like a party :P
It's one I love about playing the Maori is listening to the waiata playing.
Some of my favorite content you produce is play threw of Civ. Keep up your awesome work Quill18. I appreciate all that you do as an entertainer.
Aren't rainforests "passable features"?
Funny, the Jolly guy called you a barbarian ;D
Not picking up Pingala was a huge mistake honestly, his tier one promotions are BUSTED now
They were changed?
@@Ozhar1 yes. Now, they each give +1 per citizen of their respective resource
The episodes are way too short.
Follow your leader
10:00 Look at all that Food.
16:56 Limits.
I don't think I'll ever understand why Quill places the government plaza like that. Normally he seems to care greatly about adjacency bonuses, but this district actually gives adjacency bonuses to any district, yet he usually places them far away from any other district.
It works best when you can put it in the middle of multiple cities.
Make it 3 resources! Those outside your borders count as well. Yum fishieries.
Someone should play a game where you run a certain gov like communism or fascism for an entire game...once it becomes available you run that government until the game is finished.
7:54 I dunno if that guy was bugged, or he was making an insult to quill18 that his Maorians are barbarians. Or quill18 knew that was an insult and just took it ever so lightly. I'm confused.
Is being able to put fishing boats on water without bonus/luxury resources possible without any dlc?
its pronounced mowri like in the word grow
Thank you for removing the yield icons. It is useful for settling and improving, I concede. But too noisy for the rest of gameplay :P
i even take off resource icons until needed - i hate clutter
Also, love the different play styles Canada and Maori are giving you. First pacifist and now spread out naval empire. Very cool
You get culture bomb with farming sea resource? can you fish the turtles?
"We've got the empanada here."
why you are expanding more fields than you have citizens able to develop them?
Why is vid quality so poor? Can hardly see any text in the screen
I have one question,Kupe really exists or is a Mythological character ?
Umm, he’s in some oral history, but he also features in mythology
@@belowaverage4638 Thanks!!!
All good
According to oral history it is said that he discovered NZ, the Polynesian were amazing ocean bound explorers with what technology they had at the time.
I guess if you are in a business agreement with a company, you don't have to worry about them rooting around in your pc for your privet info.
What do you mean by this comment? Do they look at your personal info?
@@danieleriksson5587 Yes, It's all in the new user agreement for the update and game. Beats out any spyware.
18:48 is that Ceddin Deden playing in the background??
I know this is only the second episode but maybe Eleanor next? :3
whats the list of mods you use?
5:00 can anyone explain why you lose loyalty for settling in those spots?
@Quill18 DO Land-Units still count as embarked when traveling along a canal?
. . .
Don't even think about killing whales... PETAAAA
between mountains there he would get tobacco too
Is there a list of the mods used? I see fancy things like building queues, and indications of settling proximity and stuff like that. Can someone help me out with those?
Its the base game with the new expansion
Watching this after Potato's LP is painful. You need to watch him and learn a few tricks
Nah not really.
Hm. Fishery on the 4 science tile man ...
Quill after this play though you should play as America and to win you have to win with a dominant BUT you have to COMPLETELY destroy the environment.
And raze every non-capitol city that you capture
Don't forget to spy remove all the governors you don't approve of...
Actually it would be far more accurate to play as China or India then America if you want to pollute a ton
@@kaz1145 quick, someone silence this man for not playing according to the narrative!
FrontierBrainRobby what is rAze
Kinda wish high difficulty ai got a penalty to the early wonders
Hattusa needs to be conqurered.
I want to play a game against you !
to be fair quill should be rushhing the marae it just to good to be pasted on
Enjoying watching this a lot, but damn your pronunciation of words “sue zair ree un” not “sue za run” and “arch i pedge a low” not whatever your saying, otherwise good play through.
+1 for yield icons from me
Tunneling is an Incan ability
Please say Maori probably it’s not pronounced mawri it’s pronounced mouri
"this is not a good Petra location" HERESY!
wasted galapagos damn
Alright, I'll stay awake for more 30 minutes here in Europe :D
My largest issues with this game till now are: City build radius is way too large with so much land empty in between cities. Big cities need more districts. Well, This expansion is masking those basic needs with a 50$ price tag. Please, all you streamers and youtubers are just harming the game world! STOP MAKING THIS SHIT LOOK NORMAL~ They are just adding crap and making us all think its roses!!!! Why are you all so stupid!? Im not against DLC, I really am not. But this crap is just insane. So now we have to fight global warming and socialism!?!? Really!?!? Why not just decrease the city radius and add some new districts for $5? Nope, you decided to make us need wind power and Canada politics to survive. I HATE THIS. I wont buy this. This is the type of expansion that makes half your audience stop caring and paying.
Hey quill, don’t mean to be pedantic or if someone else has said this, but marae is pronounced ma-rye, and Maori is pronounced mao-re/mo-re depending which part of nz ur from
Hi James!
Jonathan Gibson hey?....
