In Barbados now. Very different experience being in a place like Holetown . I am usually in St. Lucy. I am enjoying the experience but very different . I love everything about Barbados. I love the people , beaches and the food.
Thanks for this comparison as I’ve been looking at places I could go when I get my Jamaican citizenship and these were the top two CARICOM countries. I love to travel and I think that your comment about easy travel to other spots nearby in Mexico would make a big difference. I already travel throughout Mexico frequently and it did seem like the cost of living in Barbados was considerably higher than I expected. Thank you! Love your videos
I am from Toronto. I am not that familiar with Belize besides hearing the name .l have been to Barbados, as that is my background. I am now because of your description considering visiting Belize as it sounds like a nice place. Take care.
I want to visit both places! Im American Egyptian Ive lived in both the UAE and the US( New York) but feel more at home in the UAE because the lifestyle is more relaxed and easy going. I want to visit Belize and Barbados someday! Both countries seem amazing to me!
Hi Jamie....I highly appreciate this video, I was looking for a Caribbean perspective on Belize and your video was my answered prayer.....how can I get in contact with you?
Wages everywhere are always seemingly behind the cost of living. The trick is to live within your means. Like I'm not eating out every night, I don't have every cable channel, when I know I'm not sitting home watching TV; by the time I get home is to prepare a meal and myself for the next day. The food thing is strange, since I wanted to believe there was a big influx of norther South Americans (Guyanese) in Barbados and I'd have thought they'd have brought with them some of their culinary diversity. But you're right, them Bajans might be a little stuck on themselves. I have some relatives from there and so they stay.
You’re so right! Living within your means is important in a city or country that has a high cost of living. I’d also add look for specials, discounts and limited offers cuz those help too.
Hello Jamie it's nice coming across your video.. pls I will like to ask is it easy to cross from Barbados to Canada or America.. and same for Belize.. then in Belize is there more job opportunities than Barbados... Am from Nigeria and hope to relocate and settle down in an economy that is friendly and easy to get jobs ... Thanks ...
Hi Thanks so much, I have researched both the Cayes and find the rents on Ambergris to be within my budget, I am interested to hear your views on where in Belmopan is the best place to live I know the history of why the government choose to locate the capital inland after the hurricane a number of years ago I thank you in advance Best regards GW
I don't know much about Belmopan, because I'm from Belize City. But anywhere in Belmopan is safe to live. It's our capital so it is a developed city but very small so its easy to get around and most things are accessible.
Hello: are you in Belize? Because I'm looking to go there, i need some contact? I never been there..i live in the u.s. if you can help i would appreciate it.thanks
Thanks for sharing, for someone planning to relocate to Barbados from Africa and want to finally settle down after Masters degree how easy is it for student to find job and settle down in Barbados?
Depending what you are planning for your future career Barbados is limited for employment. Tourism is/was a big island revenue but Covid has kiboshed that. The ambitious have emigrated to somewhere in Europe for better employment prospects.. Depending what your degree is? My boys who are in their late 20's wouldn't live nor work here both have good careers, nightlife almost non-existence for young people, but it's great for a holiday chill out and the slow pace of life is a welcome recharging of batteries they said.
Hello new subscriber here. Watched one of your vlogs where you spoke about chronic lower back pain (sciatica). Just FYI prolong sitting can cause the hips to widen (open up) in men and women causing the sciatic nerve to become compressed. Here’s what my doctor recommended and prescribed me a sciatic belt along with hip strengthening exercises. The sciatica belt not only relived the pain in a short period of time, but also negated needing any pain relievers. If you can’t get one from your pharmacist, they sell them online as well. Hope that this helps. Keep creating a great day for others😊
Thank you for the suggestion! My back pain is the result of an injury, so I went to physical therapy and I'm doing much better. 😊 Now I do exercises to manage the pain and strengthen my back. It's the only thing that's made a world of difference!
Hello Jamie I feel a bit star struck, I appreciate the reply. Last tidbit, have you tried Kratom? It’s a natural plant out of Thailand, legal to order online to most countries. Look it up, it works for me. Enjoy your day.
I think the african influence in afro bajan culture is actually quite big, I would say it‘s not less than the british influence although of course the language is an english based creole. I also think barbados has some diversity because of the indian people, asian people etc although the indian influence is bigger in Trinidad or Jamaica
That's an interesting perspective. Other than the food and the dialect, what other aspects of Bajan culture do you see as influenced by ancestral African heritage?
I was pleasantly surprised that the Barbados government insist on keeping all beaches public thus allowing Bajans to enjoy the entirety of their island. It's nice to see a government for the people rather than selling out completely to big corporations. Thank you for your comments on Belize but I am so stuck on Barbados for the moment.
What's with the aspiration to own a dog or two tied up all day as it's hot they might sleep if nothing is passing but come night time when one might want to sleep barking all night long.. yep right on cue here they go😬🙄 seems every house or other has at least one
@@jamierocke I am sure there are lots that are loose within their property as well as a lot are tied!!! Of course there must be some areas in Barbados where there isn't a dog fetish!!!
@@jamierocke I agree coming from the UK it isn't the norm for dogs to be tied, or kept in an enclosed area outside all day. Recently 200 dogs and some cats were exported to Canada some the owners couldn't afford to keep them Covid etc..
Btw Barbados also has some natives called the lokono. They came in the 1900 from guyana because most of the natives in Barbados either got killed, fled to bigger islands or intermixed with the black population very early in history
Thats interesting. I don't doubt that there are different ethnicities living in Barbados. The point I was making about Barbados is that the other ethnicities make up a very tiny percentage of the population. Over 90% of the population is predominantly black. So there isn't a lot of diversity.
@@listenup2882 Yes when the british arrived. However, there were natives on Barbados before that, that have been captured by the spanish, and there have been natives after the british settled on Barbados. 1. The british settlers took indigenous people from guyana that were familiar with the agriculture on the island to help them cultivate the land and 2. The family of Princess Marian who came from Guyana about 1900. Even in old diaries of english travelers who traveled the lesser antilles around the 1700‘s during the time of colonization, a few native people habe been noted, of course not nearly as many as in Dominica or St Vincent
Totally agree with the cultural aspect. I personally find that bajans are not as patriotic and proud of our culture like Jamaicans, Trinis or Guyanese . Bajans tends to be very enamoured with American culture which is sad seeing that the culture is quite rich.
Oh that’s interesting. I thought Bajans were very patriotic, especially from some of the comments that I get on my channel. Anything I say that seems slightly “negative” about Barbados, people want to come for me 😅
@@jamierocke hun that is just social media performative patriotism. Lol. In North America most of the islands have their culture on full display all the time and they rep proudly for their country and people. When are you visiting
I would like to live in barbados, is there places to do some small business?
Hi from Barbados spot on.
1:17 is it really? How about the crime rate?
curious. what is the name of the apartment building you were living in?
Hey! I wasn’t in an apartment building. It was a single apartment attached to the owners home, and It’s currently rented.

What is described as "latin American" culture is heavily influenced by African cultures. This includes the food, music, dance etc
How do you get to Belize from Barbados? Is there a flight from another island or do you have to go through Miami?
Yep you’ve got it, thru Miami. There aren’t any direct flights as yet
