Hi Jamie, for those with the Caricom skills certificate and who may have found a job in Barbados. How does it work in terms of using the certificate and being able to begin work also. Also, any advise in leasing/buying an affordable vehicle, what companies are the best one to do this with?
Hey Melissa, when I moved, even tho I had a skills certificate from Belize I still had to apply for one through the Barbados Accreditation Council. It took about 8 weeks, costs $100 and you’ll need a police report. After you get the certificate, you take it to immigration and they put a stamp in your passport which allows you to be a resident. In terms of getting a car, I don’t know of any leasing company, I’d say check Facebook to buy a car and get financing. Signia and Capita are great financing options. I hope this helps!

You’re welcome! Great question. If you reapply for the welcome stamp and it’s approved you won’t have to pay taxes. If you stay here on a work visa, then I think that’s when the need to pay taxes kick in. Hope this helps!

Hey Shania! There weren’t many… I’d say the cost of living is the biggest challenge; getting around can be challenging if you don’t have your own transportation; the cultural differences can require some acclimation and can be a challenging thing to get used to. Those were the main ones I’d say.
