But it was worth the wait: Mike, Jamie and Barry are going head to head to head to come up with the most creative and most delicious dish using 3 different flavours of mayonnaise.     This whole episode just shows how much the “normals” have just leveled up. I also appreciate that we could see their thought process, not just for the idea, but even during the actual cooking and how they recalled specific steps or tips to help make an overall great dish.       I respect Barry walking the off-beaten track, or any person who takes the off-beaten track. If done right, what seems 'ridiculous' can become the most amazing solution. IIRC, Barry was the guy who made the Dehydrated Lunch Box concept in the Lunchbox Battle previously, and Ben proclaimed him the first winner for being the most stand-out idea in Sorted in 8 years.

      They are all given a number 1-5. Then a camera person draws a number from a hat to determine who goes first. Then after their time they draw a number from said hat to find out who goes next

    100% thinking that Jaime had it in the bag especially by how well he managed his time and cooking process on everything, but Bazz's dish at the end seemed the most original and flavorful option.

    I'm so proud of Barry!! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that his was the most unexpected yet creative use of flavors. I'd never have thought of doing black pepper in a berry-lemon ice cream sandwich, but it totally sounds awesome. Second in line is definitely Mike's - also very creative. But Barry definitely deserves this one, which is even more awesome bc he isn't usually the winner. 🤗

    I feel like Jamie was the most in control. Mike went the furtherest, in regards to pushing the boat out. And, as usual, Barry went so far out of the box.... he needs to be returned to the store for a warranty.

      I will stand by saying I think Jamie is arguably the best cook out of the 'normals.' Maybe not the most diverse, but when he delivers he really does. They've also said for a long time he's king of flavour and that's got to be the main point of food.
      His rep as the worst seems to be a carry on from Pass it On and even there I feel like he got a raw deal a lot of the time and was rarely the worst.

      Jamie may bring the most chaos to the mix and arguably lacks the most patience where skill refinement is concerned but he cooks with his stomach and I feel that makes him quite strong in the kitchen because he knows what tastes good and that's all he cares about and honestly in my professional opinion it's all that matters at the end of the day.

    I was well impressed at all the hacks, tips, and tricks the guys used in their dishes. You can see how impressed the chefs were with Jamie's process. They've come such a long way over the years! Fantastic video, fantastic ideas, fantastic dishes! Was a welcome surprise to my day, thank you all.

    Wow. All of these recipes look and sound amazing. They were all very well done, but I do agree that Barry had the most innovative use of the ingredient. I mean whoever would have thought to use mayo for ice cream sandwiches? Well I will certainly be buying these mayos and trying out these recipes myself.     I really enjoyed this format, it definitely worked well! I'd love to see more battles where the normals are given a specific ingredient (or variations on an ingredient theme, like this) and are challenged to use it in creative ways.

    The "normals" have been working with food for so long that they're actually better than most chefs. No legit trained chef in their right minds would use mayo in waffle batter, cookie batter, marinade, or even ice cream. Ben and James should be proud of their mates.

      Izzy quarantine must have gotten to him,...maybe they have an egg and meat shortage like where I live here in Germany for while because of corona....(apparently several farmers and slaughterhouses had employees with corona, so everything had to be shut down....)

      You sound like you work for Heinz. A tablespoons of truffle oil in your mayo bottle would probably cost you 50p.

      Truffle oil does a job, but it's nothing compared to the real thing and once you've had a good amount of the real on, the oil tastes bitter and acrid by comparison.
      He probably doesn't work for Heinz - he's someone who knows a little about truffle.

    A lot of people dismiss British chefs because they historically haven't had very good food but you guys have done so well showing that there's talented chefs with complex palletes in Britain that aren't named Gordon.

      The three trembling normals all started to cry :
      "Put us back in our box - we're too scared to try"
      But they brainstormed ideas and invented a dish
      First there was tinned duck - it was delish,
      Then there was pork from flavour dad Spaff,
      Barry went off-piste with a dish that looked naff.
      But it took only one bite for Judgy James to pout :
      "This dish is amazing and well balanced out!
      I thought you were mad when your cookies weren't flat!
      You have won today Baz - or I'll eat my hat!"

    A huge difference from the unproductive chaos that goes into those thrown together meals in the pass it ons. It proves that all three of the normals when left to plan and invent are more than capable cooks and I believe both James and Ben would have been proud to have produced any of these plates of food themselves.

    All the recipes were spot on and the flavor combos were intriguing, but what impressed me most was the organization brought to the table - everybody was "thinking like a chef", cleaning/tasting/checking as they went about other tasks. It showed at the end, when all of them were done as the clock ticked to 0. Well done!

    Boys, fair play, hands down one of the most enjoyable episodes you’ve done for ages, and I adore all of your episodes, genuinely inspiring, editing was perfect, even the interview style stuff at the beginning, the boys even look like chefs!     I don’t think I’ve ever thought about cooking with the mayo. I’ve only ever used it as a condiment. This opens up possibilities! All the dishes looked really exquisite.

    I don't know if Heinz has those in Germany, but I am pretty sure, the garlic and caramelized onion one would be perfect for the crust on a grilled cheese 🤤

    This is what I love about these guys, they actually make me think about what I could do with the stuff in my kitchen! Usually with something like Mayo I would just put it on some chips and be done with it! I never thought about using it in something different!
