I'm just learning to sew knits on my sewing machine. I've been trying to learn as much as I can before I start a project. None of the tutorials I've watched were so specific about the use of a twin needle. Also this video was so concise and watchable. Guessing you are from Australia. A lot of great needlework tutorials from down under. Will be looking at more of your work. Thank you.
Wow! Really helped me understand. I had no clue. Thank you! Just for us older aging eyes people I could not read the written info, too light against light background.
Thank you for bringing this flaw to my attention and sorry for the late response ☺️. I added RUclips subtitles for better text readability. I hope this helps 🌺
Brilliant! Great now I know so many ways to add the 2nd thread....thank you so much for sharing! Look forward to sewing some beautiful decorative stitches especially when I now know the twin needles are not just for straight stitches! 💖
I think most household sewing machines are capable of up to 4mm twin needle. I wanted a 5 or 6mm one because some clothes come with stiches that far apart, but I'll probably have to stich twice with a single needle in order to replicate that.
You're quite right, for some clothes I also lack a 6 or even 8 mm double needle. I wasn't paying enough attention to this setting when I chose a sewing machine model for the purchase. And sometimes I have to run two parallel stitches with a single needle because the max zigzag width of my machine is only 5 mm. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!
Thanks a lot, nice to hear that. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, for decorative stretch stitches, I used the max stitch width (for my sewing machine, it's 5 mm) and a twin needle with a width of 2 mm.
There was a video where the narrower twin needle was used to sew dimensional decorative stitches on a lightweight tshirt type of material. When it was stitching, say, a scalloped stitch the material was pulled up between the needles and was raised between the stitches. Other stitches were used and it was a pretty effect. But, the people said they would show it but haven't. Do you know of this or how to correctly set it up with the proper tension etc.?
This is a hemstitch. It joins two pieces of fabric to create an open work appearance. Here, the stitch length is set to stretch stitch mode and looks like that. That is, it's a decorative stitch that joins two pieces of fabric together with a space between them. Thank you for stopping by 🤗
Hi, thanks for watching! No, a regular zigzag presser foot works with a twin needle. In the video, I used a buttonhole foot. I like that it's transparent, and it works excellent with a twin needle too.
Please change the type, it can barely be seen! This is one of the most informative videos on this topic but the font needs to be a different color please!
Thank you 🌼. I wouldn't say that the twin needle makes stronger seams. In woven fabrics, the twin needle makes purely decorative stitches. In stretch fabrics, it makes a neat hem that will not break when stretched.
There are several reasons why stitches may skip. The most common cause of skipped stitches is using the wrong type of needle. A knit fabric requires a twin stretch (ballpoint) needle, not a universal (sharp). Please check your needle type.
Sapphire Vidal Yes, you must get sequins by the yard at your sewing supplier then use the Ribbon & Sequins Presser Foot. If you have a high shank machine, make sure you get a low shank adapter and purchase a presser foot specifically for low shank snap-on presser foot or check out Sewing Machine Parts Online tutorial here on RUclips for this presser foot to see how it works, and if they have one to fit precisely YOUR brand of machine. (No, I am not affiliated with the RUclips channel, but I have the presser foot for over 10 years! Great foot!). Hope this helps!
It isn’t necessary to unscrew the needle holder that loose doing so the screw could fall into machine causing a lot of unnecessary problems instead a single turn is all that’s needed be careful and happy sewing
Hi Steve, thanks for watching and the advice! Do you mean that on my wrong side the top thread loops should be more tightly tightened and the bottom thread should look like a zigzag?
Very interesting observation. What made you decide this? Tensions, and what is right and what is not and how to tell the difference have always confused me.
Very helpful. This is best video I have seen on this topic. Thanks
Thank you. It's very pleasing to hear these words.
Very helpful. Good video with lots of practical info 👍

Thank you for this brilliant video. Learnt a lot, had to turn down the music but I like straight to the point and not too much talking..
Thank you, glad to hear that!

Really helpful, thanks Koala!
Glad to hear you liked it :) Thanks for watching!
Please include the settings for example the tension ,stitch width , and length please.
Really informative. And the part of figuring out the max width of the twin needles was very clever!

I see comments about music, but kept sound muted while I copied notes off of captions option. Thanks so much, Koala Sewing! Great tips! 😊 💡👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️
Thank you this wonderful video!
Thank you, so glad to hear that!
This is really helpful. I didn't know it was possible to use decorative stitches as well. Question: Did you use a longer stitch width?
Thanks a lot, nice to hear that. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, for decorative stretch stitches, I used the max stitch width (for my sewing machine, it's 5 mm) and a twin needle with a width of 2 mm.

Thanks for the comment! Really pleased 🙂
Nice video. If you have ever sewn with a triple needle, I would love to see a video about how you use it.
I never used a triple needle, but it's definitely worth a try. I wonder how decorative stitches will look with this needle...
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much your video was so useful for me my sewing machine has this option and nothing mentioned in the manual
Glad I could help. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!

I love BUT I’m curious to know what’s the name of that stitch on 4:02 the 3 from the left to the right 😳 looks like “ overlock “

Hi, thanks for watching! No, a regular zigzag presser foot works with a twin needle. In the video, I used a buttonhole foot. I like that it's transparent, and it works excellent with a twin needle too.
Yes yes yes. 4 choices.....simple and so easy.

great video! does a twin needle help with stronger/better seams or it doesn't make any difference compared to the other methods? (without a serger)
Thank you 🌼. I wouldn't say that the twin needle makes stronger seams. In woven fabrics, the twin needle makes purely decorative stitches. In stretch fabrics, it makes a neat hem that will not break when stretched.

I'm glad you like it and thanks for watching!
Really.. I have been wondering about this because the company doesn't advertise that mine can do this. Neat... Anyone try this on a Janome HD5000???
Which pressor foot we have to use
It's a transparent foot for a manual buttonhole. It's also used for button sewing, appliqués, and decorative stitches.
Can’t see what’s written white writing on white background????????
My singer machine no 'is 3368.Can i put 2 needl .
Yes, you can if your sewing machine can sew a zig-zag stitch. A twin needle can not be used if a sewing machine can only straight stitch 🤝
My inside thread ( your red) skips. Please help
Do you sew knit fabric or woven?
Koala Sewing ......yes, stretchy pants. Is that the reason?
There are several reasons why stitches may skip. The most common cause of skipped stitches is using the wrong type of needle. A knit fabric requires a twin stretch (ballpoint) needle, not a universal (sharp). Please check your needle type.
Where to buy twin needle??
You can find double needles for a sewing machine in almost any sewing supplies shop.
beautiful 👌👌

What model is that machine Janome?
This is a Janome 525S machine.
It isn’t necessary to unscrew the needle holder that loose doing so the screw could fall into machine causing a lot of unnecessary problems instead a single turn is all that’s needed be careful and happy sewing
Thank you for your comment! I overdid it a bit with the unscrewing ;) Indeed, a single turn of the screw is all that is needed to replace the needle.

Nice job however your bottom thread tension is just a tiny bit loose need to tighten up the tension on your top thread.

Yes, could be tighter; I thought the same thing!😉
