I Made a Retro Skirt with Extra Large Pockets | Sewing with a Ready Made Pattern

I've checked this skirt pattern, and it's fantastic. It evokes the '50s with its ultra-feminine style. Some might call it vintage, but to me, this cut is timeless. I made a few modifications to the original pattern. I eliminated the back zipper, widened the waistband to 6 cm (2,5''), and hid the elastic band under the rib knit fabric. Folds, gathers, and extra-large pockets on the sides add ful...

    • @KoalaSewing
      @KoalaSewing Месяц назад

      Sorry, but this is not fake. It's important to note that oven self-cleaning allows you to clean perfectly its walls. Baking trays and grates should be washed by hand, otherwise self-cleaning will damage them. Self-cleaning does not work on the surface of the oven door, it also needs to be washed by hand. So anyway, if you have any questions about it, let me know 🤝

    Would it be safe to use a compressed air can to blow away the crumbs? Or is the compressed air toxic?

    • @KoalaSewing
      @KoalaSewing 3 месяца назад

      It's difficult for me to answer your question, I don't know anything about its toxicity. But looking at it from another side, using compressed air for cleaning pushes dirt, dust particles, and lots of burnt crumbs from the toaster bottom into the air we breathe. That's definitely not healthy.

    If one side of the jean pant leg has a thick stitch in it can I take the whole amount in on the other side or would it fit funny? (Like how you did 3cm on both sides instead of 6 on one side)

    • @KoalaSewing
      @KoalaSewing 3 месяца назад

      We take in the pant leg an equal amount of centimeters on both sides to maintain the grain line along which the pants were originally cut. Otherwise, the pants will hang poorly, not on the straight grain, they may look twisted. I took in the leg by 6 cm (12 cm total) - this is quite a lot. If you need to take a little, perhaps one-sided sewing won't lead to noticeable deformation. I would try making a temporary stitch on the wrong side without cutting the fabric. This will help you understand how acceptable the final result will be for you.

    There was a video where the narrower twin needle was used to sew dimensional decorative stitches on a lightweight tshirt type of material. When it was stitching, say, a scalloped stitch the material was pulled up between the needles and was raised between the stitches. Other stitches were used and it was a pretty effect. But, the people said they would show it but haven't. Do you know of this or how to correctly set it up with the proper tension etc.?

    Before watching this video I did almost all the steps including using the chopsticks and the toothbrush, but didn't know the vacuum trick. But my toaster didn't work afterwards. According to the user manual of that same manufacturer you shouldn't do any of this! Even not turning the toaster upside down to remove the crumbs. They just want it to be rotten with bread remains without giving any useful information about cleaning it properly or supply tools to do so!

    • @KoalaSewing

      They just want us to keep buying new ones. Again and again. I'm sorry your toaster stopped working. You likely hit the heating element with the vacuum. I should have emphasized in the video that you need to be especially careful around the heating grid.

    Nice and complete. A bit finicky. Seems like there ought to be able to make a toaster you could just flop open or that you could slide out parts for cleaning. I suppose if you could use a heat plate instead of wires, you could pull out the plates. Probably longer to heat up though. There are some range of household fixtures and appliances that one thinks should be redesigned.

    • @bl8388
      @bl8388 6 месяцев назад

      They have "toaster ovens," that are much easier to clean, that do the toasting sideways on a tray. Otherwise they are a pain in the butt to clean.

      @ghandimauler Toaster manufacturers seem to believe that the ability to buy a new toaster for as little as $10 should eliminate our desire to clean it simply and effectively. The entire evolution of toasters over decades of production has resulted in the addition of a crumb tray. And that's it. It's sad.
