Just to say a double needle post bed sewing machine is of great help in case of doing 'double stitches' /'french seams'.
For this demonstration on leather material I am using a heavy duty Durkopp&Adler 268-FA-273 sewing machine.
The big foot was especially designed for this purpose. It has a blade as a guide in its center that follows the groove left by first closing seams.
The two needles were graduated at a distance of 10 mm between them. The lenght of stitches are 6 mm.
The first sample in black leather shows a seamles french stitching that could be used for armrests, consoles and dashboards giving a flat appearance.
The second sample was done on leather 1.3 mm thick with a foamed backing of 5 mm thick. The leather edges were not skived. We would realize the stitches on inside seams are shorter.
The third sample shows how useful is a post bed machine while sewing rounded covers. The leather edges were skived at 1 mm. There is also a foamed backing material of 3 mm thick.

Wow ! that is very nice work ! i started doing Upohlstery way before You Tube was began to put it into perspective my single needle Walking Foot sewing Machine was the very first thing i ever purchased using the Internet and Ebay ! i felt i got lucky by getting a seller that sent me what he promised to do, i was also lucky enough to speak to the person via telephone before i made the purchase and inthe long run i’ve remained happy about the purchase I am all self taught and began learning how to sew to do personal projects on my boat and Vintage automobiles ! i wish You Tube videos weren’t available when i began as now i’m retired and a enjoying learning tricks of the trade and how do do better work!

En efecto, es de gran ayuda una máquina de poste. Ademas se cuenta con espacio suficiente a la derecha para manipular con mas facilidad una funda grande.

You should check out a 768 or other model with split needle bar or adjustable. You will get that cleaner 90 degree and rounded corner. We use a split needle bar for upholstered sofas, to make a perfect right angle double stitch on sofa arms. The newer machines allow you to change the stitch length on the 2 needles separately, so that you can do a rounded bend with the inside and outside of the double stitch appear to be the same length on the material. The sewing machines are insanely expensive. Even the slightly older 268 postbed in this video, if purchased in the US with table, pedal, drive, etc. is like $5,000 installed. Brand new Juki or adler with all the bells and whistles ready to go turnkey is like $15k+++

El acabado es perfecto, pero veo que hay que tener muy buena técnica para coser curvas con esa máquina, porque en las máquinas de una sola aguja, en casos como el mío, que tengo poca práctica, puedo dejar la aguja abajo, levantar el pie y girar ligeramente la pieza para dar la siguiente puntada justo en el sitio donde me interesa. En esta máquina hay siempre que girar el cuero justo en el momento preciso para que no se note una diferencia en el espaciado de las puntadas. No sé si me explico, pero aunque tuviese que practicar bastante, no me importaría nada tener una máquina de doble aguja!!! 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉

Si le entiendo la duda. Yo pensaba lo mismo. La clave está en la guía que tiene el pié de presión que corre por la ranura. Solo se acomoda para dar las puntadas frente a frente. No sería necesario mucha práctica.
Una máquina de poste nos permite espacio para enrollar y acomodar una funda y manipular mucho mejor.

No siempre funciona la regla. Hay tapiceros que pueden tener muchas máquinas pero no saben manejarlas para realizar un buen trabajo. Hay otros que si saben como pero no cuentan con un buen equipo. La conclusión es que debe ser balanceado el asunto.

Nice video, I like the post bed.... Can I accomplish more than a flatbed? Pros & cons?.... I also noticed that it looks like you don't pull the leather much when sewing...do you let the foot pressure do most of the flattening?
Dear Oliver, It has enough room on right side to let a big cover inside. A post bed let to do easier sewings on headrests or another rounded pieces.
The machine is triple transportation(alternating feet) that does not allow puckering of material.

Estimado Wilmer, si vale la pena contar con una máquina de poste como complemento en la tapicería automotríz especialmente para hacer las puntadas dobles. Aunque podemos resaltar que no es un artículo indispensable. Las puntadas dobles se pueden hacer también con la máquina de una sola aguja.

Both stitches are paralell. When reaching the curves the inside stitches are always narrower.
On two paralell rounded lines, the outer circumference is wider than inner circumference.

Maestro gracias por el tiempo que se para contestar mis mensajes, en este video la máquina es de poste, doble arrastre y la distancia entre las aujas de cuanto es, el número de auja, y el hilo que usted utiliza, para mi es de gran ayuda sus videos, gracias a usted me decidí a superarme y entrar de lleno en este hermoso oficio, inspira que todo trabajo que en algún momento pensé imposible, hoy sea realidad, gracias maestro
Estimado Daniel, Esta máquina es de triple arrastre porque la barra de aguja se está desplazando de atrás hacia adelante constantemente (movimiento de vaivén). La barra posterior que sujeta el pié mas grande solo sube y baja verticalmente.
La distancia entre las agujas es de 10 mm (estas distancias son graduables, todo depende de cambiar el cubo porta aguja para sujetar las agujas, luego la placa base y sus dientes de arrastre también hechas a esta medida de 10 mm entre los orificios por donde pasa la aguja). Si deseara otra medida mas ancha o mas angosta, entonces tendría que comprar el kit de estos tres componentes y fijarlos nuevamente en su lugar.
Los postes so ajustables y se mueven al aflojar unos tornillos en la parte inferior.
Las agujas son número 140 (medida europea) que es igual a la 22(medida americana o Singer) El hilo es el número cero aquí en México. Este hilo es de polyester.

Thank you for posting your video(s). I have found one of these machines for sale but the needle gauge is too narrow I think for auto-upholstery (6mm). If I purchased the kit, would you say it's something a DIY'er could manage with instructions, without resorting to a machine engineer? I have been quoted £700 to switch out the needle gauge, which sounds pretty steep. Do you easily switch out different needle gauges on your machine to adapt to different jobs? Just thinking that I'm otherwise limited to the distance between the needles. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.
These machines can be adjusted to different widths between needles 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10mm; 1/2". The posts are movable and ca be adjusted to the desired distance.
To do this change it is necessary to buy a kit that includes the feed dog, needle plate, presser foot, and a small cube that comes fastened to needle bar and where the 2 needle shanks would be placed in.
To do the switching of needle gauges and the other parts of the kit that include this change takes some consuming time and patience. It is not easy to be changing different kits for different jobs. I have my machine set up to 10 mm width. I have in mind to buy another set up to 8 mm for dashboards and consoles.
Of course, you can do it following the instructions. The rotary hooks time will not be altered nor the needle bars height. It only consists in moving a little bit posts and needles with their new distance attached cube.

Los dos modelos son útiles en un taller. La de poste nos ayudaría mucho mejor en partes como cabeceras o coser vueltas que van alrededor del asiento o espaldar. La plana nos ayudaría mucho en distancias recta y cortas como los paneles de un asiento.

Dear Tariq, Yes, this machine is heavy duty and can easily sew 4 layers of leather 1.3 mm thick (if seams are folded to sew gives us the four layers of 5.2 mm thick) plus foamed backing material and backing tape fed...Min 5:29 of the video.
The las sample is thinner because I skived the leather 1mm and backing material is also thinner...min 9:24

Would you say, a walking foot 2 needle is a must have, or do you think that a 2needle without walking foot is enough?
I consider it a must have in a shop if it is possible. Otherwise the double stitches could be done one side first then the other one with a single needle sewing machine.

@@user-qb1ri2xn5t Another tip for clear vinyl/leather colors: there are 'erasable pens' which can be used to mark. The ink of some of them vanish just by applying some heat air on. Others, erase with an ordinary eraser used for pencils.

Maestro saludos, el tipo de máquina que usted presenta en este video es de puntada larga, en mi país, Perú no hay este tipo de máquina, solo hay parecidas para zapatos, con puntadas hasta el número 5, que me recomienda usted,
La máquina de dos agujas que muestro en el video da una puntada máxima de 6mm. Efectivamente estas máquinas se usan en zapatería. Los postes son movibles por consiguiente se pueden cambiar el kit de peines y sujetador de agujas para hacer las puntadas dobles mas anchas o mas angostas. Las patas de presión se cambian también.
Estas máquinas las encontramos en todos los países desde hace muchos años. Quizás no es muy común su uso en la tapicería de carros.

Que número de hilo y que marca es y que tamaño de aguja estas usando y número de puntada utilizas?
Estimado Erasmo, el hilo es número 'cero' polyester marca Omega y la aguja es 140=22. Las puntadas son a 6 mm. En las curvas, las puntadas internas del arco se forman mas pequeñas.

Yo compre una de doble aguja pero no es de poste y no logro que me cosa bien con el hilo del 0, incluso si el material se engruesa, me brinca la puntada (tal vez porque no esta bien ajustada mi maquina), sigo pendiente de tus videos. Buen Día. 👍

Normal ev dikiş makinesi ile veya iğne ile birşeyleri iyi kötü tamir ettiğim oldu. Son 1 yıl içinde eşime sanayi tipi olmak üzere; overlok makinesi reçme makinesi ve dikiş makinesi aldım. Kendime nasıl bir deri makinesi alabilirim? Bu konuda fikirlerinizin çok kıymetli olacağını söylemek isterim. Aldığımız makineler sessiz, servo motorlu, evde kullanılabiliyor.
