so amazing!!! thank you, I have avoided knits for my entire sewing life, because I'm not a fan of zig zag, this tutorial has literally changed my sewing game, me made knickers here I come!!! Beautifully presented, clearly explained, wonderful.
Very helpful. I kept thinking you needed two bobbins to see with a twin needle. Thanks for showing me how it works. Also the idea of using the bobbin spools as cotton reels, was a revelation l and well worth knowing.
Very helpful! You cleared up a lot of my confusion. And thanks for using two different colors of thread and light colored fabric to demonstrate. So many tutorials are difficult to see what's happening, but this was very clear.
I want to thank you for this tutorial. I was finally able to finish a small project that I literally walked away from and left on the sewing machine for 2 days due to absolute frustration! The tread kept tangling and snapping, I even shattered a twin needle in the process. I had no idea the threads needed to unspool in the opposite directions, and I am thankful you mentioned that.
A note of caution to Brother sewing machine owners. I have a Brother 420PRW computerized machine which I dearly love. I found out the hard way tho . . . this machine has to be set up in the computer screen for a twin needle, which I didn't know and I crash smashed the first stitch with my first try of a twin needle. Another instance of READ YOUR MANUAL FIRST!!! I hope this will save many of you from breaking a twin needle or damaging your machines. It also has to be programmed back to a single needle. Lovely lovely machine so don't abuse it by not reading your manual.
Yes, it crashed bang before I knew what was happening! Again, always read the manual before doing anything as to prevent bad bad things from happening to a wonderful machine. From someone who learned the hard way.
Great idea in sewing the things you can do now days😅 with machine I see that's a nice one 😊im looking forward to more of your lessons you are so talented from tk I'm a guy 😮thanks.
I got some twin needles a while ago but was a bit afraid to try them. I just googled and found you. Thank you for the demo, I feel more confident to try them now and love they can be used for decorative stitches to.
My mother and I were discussing whether twin needles worked on regular machines last night. She thought only sergers did it. So grateful for the tips and demo. This is great!
We use serger thread on our industrial coverstitch machines. When using a twin needle is my only option (when on the road teaching, etc...) I always use serger thread. It is less bulky and since it is 2 ply thread instead of 3 it is thinner. This results in loosening both your needle and bobbin tension slightly, which usually results in a much nicer twin needle stitch without any adjustments to the bobbin and often the needle as well. Give it a try and see what you think.
Thank you. I am about to tackle twin needle sewing. I’ve been putting it off. But now I feel a bit more confident after watching your video. The decorative stitches look amazing.
Thank you for this lovely demo. Just a quick note. I've just tested twin needles for the very first. After a few failed tests I used ONLY the left thread guide for the left thread on the spoon and ONLY the right thread guide for the right thread on the spoon. Hope this doesn't sound too confusing;) The result came out perfect. Again thank you ;)
Thank you so MUCH!!!! I had no clue how to use the twin needle and how I was ever gonna get two colors on my machine!!! Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
This was a wonderfully helpful video! I have always been intimidated by knits and twin needles. This was so clear and the helpful tips (like which way the threads come off the spools) is much appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
OOOMMMGGGG YOUR WAY IS THE ONLY WAY THAT WORKED FOR ME 😭😭😭 My thread kept getting tangled at the bottom and the way you explained it was so simple other videos said not to thread the second needle the same way as the first but then I saw your video and it worked!!! 😮
Omg ! Thank you so much . I purchased a twin needle a couple months back..tried it once .. it didn’t work so I just kept it in my sewing kit lol . Thank you so much for making it so easy !!
Thank you. It doesn’t feel so scary after watching you. I have a CXL 301 Janome and only just learning. Made a few bags and face masks. I have now got some jersey fabric to make some P.J’s it advised you use a twin 80/12. That scared me. I’m now feeling more confident to go and sew. You made it look simple.
Thanks for the video, I just started to sew and learned how to do the preliminary work with your up close video. Using the twin needle for hemming knits is such a great option for me, since I just update thrifted clothes. Out of all the instructional videos I have seen , yours are clearly the best, most simple, and best close-ups .
listening to the sounds, I could hear the two bobbins used as spools were making some noise. I think if you would use as small pieces of felt on the bottom of the bottom bobbin and one in between the two. the bobbins wouldn't jump and keep the thread from flopping. It's a thought anyway. Good explanation of double needle.
Seems easy enough to use the felt pieces and the keepers on separate thread posts. We always think we know better and can play the system, but there's a reason they set it up the way they do. Still I got a lot from this demo.
Thank you so much it was very informative and helpful I just tried the twin needle for the first time with no problems at all ❤️ you explained everything 💕
Amazing video thank you. I love to see fellow Janome users. I've just made my first t-shirt, but I didn't have a twin needle to finish it off, can't wait for mine to come in the post!
Best tutorial for twin-needle sewing on RUclips! I have a Janome 525s and have tried to do this several times but keep twisting the threads. Will try your machine threading method. Interesting about the threads moving off the reels in different directions. Thank you.
thank you so much for your video, I have been scared to use the twin needle, but, you have given me the go ahead that I can use it now.... again thank you
Thank you so much for this. I wondered how to keep the two threads separated with the thread guides near the needle. Now I know, only use the one directly above the needle for one of the threads, as you did with the left hand thread. My Bernette machine has two spool pins, so that's not a problem, but I like your idea of having the threads come off in different directions. Will give that a try next time I need to repair the hems on my T-shirt hem and sleeves. Thank you for your lovely clear simple explanations.
Great video. Very helpful, I was trying to find a way to finish a hem on london stretch. Thank you for posting the video. Truncating the threading of the needles is fine by me. If you cant thread a needle, you really aren't ready for the twin needles yet anyways.
I've recently heard you can use thread off the spool or bobhin but its not recommended to use one of each at thr same time. It referenced how they were wound. So if choosing bobbin thread use two bobbins.
De Garis Cat lady, Thank you very much for this video, you made it look so easy and it was easy !! I have always wondered now to get a really nice finish on knitted fabrics for hems etc. I have just used my twin needle that has been sitting in my sewing box for years +++ for the very first time and the hem I did with it looks great . So happy !! Thanks again , Cheers Kathy
Great video miss, please ignore the negative comments, as you did a very good job of showing how the needle functions. If people don't know how to thread a needle, then they should read their owners manual! Overall, very informative abd and well done. 👍👌
Wow!! This is wonderful, actually I had no idea until today that u could use two needles in the machine until I saw your video 😂😂 and u can actually use two different types of threads 😮😮 Thank for sharing.
Thanx for the most informative guide to use the twin needle, can you please confirm if we need to change the presser foot and can we use it to stitch to fabrics together with a zigzag stitch
Hi! Great video just got this machine and have been learning a lot from your videos. Have been looking for this removable extra spool pin for my Janome dc4030p which i believe it the same you are using. Can you put up a link for me to buy.
Boy, I wish I had watched this before I started on my husbands shirt that needed shortening! Would have saved me gobs of thread and anger! I have a very old but very reliable Morse 4400 machine, but not very good instructions on twin needle sewing. Thank you for sharing this. Whoever said you can't teach an old dog new tricks, sure didn't know me very well!
I was trying to shorten a t shirt sleeve, but the thread kept breaking.....I then used stabilizer, like you mentioned and wallahhhh it worked. Thanks for your video.
Hi thanks for this Video. I was wondering at the first step you showed, did you have also the boben with cotton too or it was just the twin needle sewing. I couldn't see that clearly. I appreciate your response.
Nice... this looks like a time saver. I have a lot of dress shirts that rip at the elbow after a few years. Do you think I could use the twin needle to alter the long sleeves into a short sleeves? I always struggle making the hem on the sleeves parallel lines.
Did you buy the second vertical spool separately? Or did it come with your Janome 4030? I have the same machine, and cannot find that second spool, in the pile of extras that came with the machine? I bought the twin needle, but haven’t been able to use it, as I don’t have the second spool that I see in all the videos, about “how to use the twin needle”. Had no idea I could use two bobbins, great. looks like you use Rassant thread. I’m so glad you use vibrant, contrast colour threads to demonstrate. Easy to see. Thanks Dominica.
I was really worried about this. I just purchased a new machine for quilting , new at that too ! But was sitting here with new one still in box unopened and worried as I wanted a machine that would take the twin needles cause I ve been watching a lot of vids that show different uses for this particular needle and mine apparently didn't come with the twin and considered sending it back, other than that this machine seemed to have everything I could afford at this time. So this means I hope that I can still just purchase the twin and set it up like you have shown. My mom had machines that had this but never saw her use it so that means she didn't know how and apparently never asked any one. So if I am wrong please let me know ,I'd hate to ruin a new machine, loved the tutoorial, thanks for your time.
Hi +Ella Duhon. You can put a twin needle on any just about any machine. What type of machine did you get? I'll look it up. It's always an exciting time getting a new machine, but we also have that fear of breaking it that comes along with it too 😁. Let me know if I can help in any way 😊.
Yes +Ella Duhon. On this site it says the machine comes with the twin needle www.allbrands.com/products/61872-brother-rsc9500-80-120-stitch-computer-sewing-mach under 'carton contents' so maybe just double check with where you bought it from to make sure everything is there. There may be instructions for how to use the twin needle in your manual too. The instructions in this video would be very similar. 😊
I need your help to decide between singer 3505 and brother gs 2700. I have seen the singer 3505 demo and stitch quality is wonderful. I haven't seen brother machines as they ate not in local markets right now. Expected in a months time. I like that singer 3505 has blanket stitch that I may use for applique. Brother doesn't have it. If you had to choose between front loading vs top loading bobbin, which one will you choose? Thanks!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you very much for sharing! Going to try using a twin needle, it is a very useful and pretty stitch. Thank you for explaining it so clearly!
Hi. I have the same machine. Did you buy the spool stand separately. I can’t seem to find a listing where it says it fits this machine. Thanks. Video helped, but need that spool stand :)
When using the twin needle and doing a straight stitch, do I do the normal method which is: Start a few stitches, back stitch a few stitches, then proceed to keep forward stitching until the end of my stitching...then finish with a reverse stitch a few stitches and go over those with a forward stitch, and stop and cut threads? That is the method I was told when doing normal stitching in order to prevent the threads from coming loose. Thanks in advance.

i read the manual, and also aware of the alphabet on the screen, if you don't use proper footer the needle might broke
I didnt know you can use twin needles for decorative stitches. Now I'm hyped up to try it. Your tutorial is superb by the way. Great explanation.
+KiCko kimichi Glad I could help! Hope it went well 😀.
Hi thank you for teaching I have really learned how to use a twin needle very interesting now I can hem my sewing also

This was the first time I learned how to use a double or twin needle🌷excellent information .

Holy cow!! I’ve been stressing about this with my Janome but you just made it sooo easy!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you so MUCH!!!! I had no clue how to use the twin needle and how I was ever gonna get two colors on my machine!!! Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Many thanks! I have the same machine and didn't realise some stuff existed on my machine!!! Great tute!
+Cherie Costar Awesome! I absolutely love this machine. I also have a review video for this machine that goes over it in a bit more detail.
Thank you for this tut! I will try it out. I've always been intimidated by twin needles.
Can you use twin needles for zigzag and or decoration stitches that use zigzag?
Thanks for your detailed videos! Very helpful!!😊
Extremely helpful. Have managed to hem a jersey maxi dress tonight and the result looks great . First time working with jersey fabric xx
Wow!! This is wonderful, actually I had no idea until today that u could use two needles in the machine until I saw your video 😂😂 and u can actually use two different types of threads 😮😮 Thank for sharing.
2 bobbins. Brilliant! I never thought of that.
Right? It's going to save me so much money on thread.
Thank you so much! Very helpful because my owner's manual did not cover this at all.
Good video thanks. I recently got a basic brother machine and want to use the twin needle soon.
Thanx for the most informative guide to use the twin needle, can you please confirm if we need to change the presser foot and can we use it to stitch to fabrics together with a zigzag stitch
Great tutorial, I learned how to use a twin needle quite nicely and easily, thanks
Hi! Great video just got this machine and have been learning a lot from your videos.

Linda Waldron I feel your pain, I’m in the process of trying to do the same for my husband! So glad I found this!
Took the mystery out of this for me, thank you!❤❤❤
I was trying to shorten a t shirt sleeve, but the thread kept breaking.....I then used stabilizer, like you mentioned and wallahhhh it worked. Thanks for your video.
Very helpful! On the first, stretchy example, we're you usher a straight stitch or a stretch stitch?
Thank you for showing how to use two needles. I always wanted to know how this done. I appreciate this very much.
No problem,Teresita Augustine :)
Hi thanks for this Video. I was wondering at the first step you showed, did you have also the boben with cotton too or it was just the twin needle sewing. I couldn't see that clearly. I appreciate your response.
Fantastic! Can you use the twin needle if your hook is oriented vertically?
i was wondering how twin needles worked. thank you so much for this video
I love your voice! So soothing. Great video! Thanks.
Thanks +Budzilla Sohoski!
Budzilla Sohoski I'd have to agree there!
Budzilla Sohoski ll,
Excellent tutorial. I needed to see how to thread with only one spool. Thank you
Thank you for sharing it’s helpful, and I want to say woooooow for your sewing machine because is without noise 🥰👌🏻like it so mach
Great tutorial!!! I regret not buying those twin needles I passed that were on sale!!! Which thread goes in which needle hole?
This was such a great tutorial, thank you!
Thanks for the information. I didn't realize I could use twin needles. Great tutorial
thanks for the video.. btw, what type of janome machine you're using?
Very helpful. Great teacher! THANK YOU !!
Nice demonstration! What stich you choose on the machine? Is it normal straight stich?
Nice... this looks like a time saver. I have a lot of dress shirts that rip at the elbow after a few years. Do you think I could use the twin needle to alter the long sleeves into a short sleeves? I always struggle making the hem on the sleeves parallel lines.
Thank you!! This was SO helpful! I'm no longer afraid of my twin needles!! :)
That's fantastic! Glad I could help 😊
Thank u for this tutorial 👏🏾 sooo helpful. I just have one question, y does the bobbin with the different colors go two different ways on the spool?
Winnie Grant in case you are still wondering, it’s so they are less likely to tangle.
Great tutorial. . . Going to order twin needles now!
Thanks Dominica.
very clear demonstration, thank you very much. I have a question? can I use double/twin needles in a janome 415 also?
Enjoyed this! Does it matter which colour of the two threads you can use for the bobbin?
Not really. You will only be able to see the bobbin thread from the underside of what you are sewing.
Wonderful video! Very instructive. Thank you.
RSC9500 Brother quilting and sewing, i looked everywhere, but the places u already knew about , any help would be great
+Ella Duhon looks like a great machine to get you going! If you find anything you need help with and you can find a helpful video for it, let me know.
so u feel like im good to go and use the twin needle on this machine ?
Brother has top loading bobbin vs singer having front load bobbin. Brother speed is 860spm while singer is 750 spm. I am a beginner . Please suggest which one of the two should I buy. If you had to choose between front loading vs top loading bobbin, which one will you choose? Thanks!
Can you use double needles on a regular sewing machine or does it have to be a sewing machine especially made for double needle sewing?
You have inspired me to get some twin needles! Always wondered how some of these things are made - excellent! Happy New Year
Thank you so much, That was a very informative video.
Mystery solved, will try thanks.
Thanks for this wonderful video
Thank you for showing this. I enjoy your accent.
Great instructions, thank you.
Thank you! This is so good to know for when I take in op shop jeans.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you very much for sharing! Going to try using a twin needle, it is a very useful and pretty stitch. Thank you for explaining it so clearly!
+BBknits Great. How did you go?
Great demo. Thanks for all the great tips.
This is very interesting. I don't see you using the lower bobbin at all. Am I right?
Fantastic video. Thank you 💐
Thank you. Lovely example
Wow! Love it!! Thank You! Always wondered how that worked!! :)
Hi. I have the same machine. Did you buy the spool stand separately. I can’t seem to find a listing where it says it fits this machine. Thanks. Video helped, but need that spool stand :)
Thank you so much for this video. I found it really helpful.
Another very helpful video. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing, well understood
so nice, i will buy twin needle and try it in my janome or in my zigzager. both have front facing needle hole
Thankyou so much for showing how to use twin needle in this video.can i do a zigzag with a twin needle?
so very cool, ibhave lime green wnd blue colors., hat aboyt bobbin color, also do I connect the bobbin after threaded like a regular sewing machine. .
Does a double needle stitch work well on knit fabrics? It looks much nicer than a zigzag, but it would need some stretch still...
Yes, it is excellent for knit fabrics as the bottom zig zag allows for stretch.
Hi, what were your settings for the first stitch test (the straight on the top side, zig zag on bottom)
Yes, you'd need to do that when using the twins needle as well to secure your stitches 😊
Ok thank you for replying!
Thank you it was very helpful 🌹
Thank you. Thats so helpful 😊
I want cros tuck stiching. For industrial use. Which is the best machine.
enjoyed this tips & so happy u did this .... thanks
