I've been watching everything I can about twin needles, and it's getting to sound a lot simpler than I thought. You gave a lot of great hints. Thanks for posting.
Wow, what a great video. Thanks so much. I never thought of Wonder tape. I so appreciate people like you who take the time to give the public great, helpful videos! 🙂
Thank you. Twin needles have scared me forever. This video helped me shorten my first dress. Now I’m on to many more! Sew simple! Also, I used heavy starch to help mark the cut line when shortening a maxi dress to a knee length dress. You can just spray the starch on and let it dry, no need to iron, just get it stiff to make marking and cutting easier. That was the hardest part on my first dress hemming experience.
Hi, I really liked your video!!! You explain perfectly well, how to use the twin needles. I just bought mine at Hobby Lobby and they are pretty expensive, but as long as they work, I will keep on using them. Thank you very much for your instruction video. God Bless You all. 🙏☺️
Hi, the skipped stitch could only happen either because the twin needle was too wide for your machine, or, if you use your machine a lot and it's not new, you may need to rephase it or sharpen the crochet hook. A tip to avoid the tunneling without a stabilizer, and also to give a nicer look to the zigzag at the back, is to significantly reduce the lower tension
I’m having this issue I change needle sizes I’m using universal needles won’t thread through I had my sewing machine for 6 months and I change tension to different sizes
@@dejamonroe989 hi I am also having an issue with tunneling. I am wondering if you were able to correct this. I’m afraid of changing the tension I’m always worried that I’m going to screw up my machine. Any suggestions?
Taking my first adventure at twin needle work on a denim-type fabric. Thank you for your excellent instructions and clarity... When I'm done with my project I will share the results... I LOVE YOUR CLARITY!!!
Thanks! This was very helpful, just got my first twin needle. I would love a cover stitch machine but don’t want to spend the money on one so hoping this will work out good.
I appreciated this video very much- - today was the first day I ever Used a twin needle because a friend of mine asked me to do a couple of her knit dresses I saw the video of how the hem looks and I was really pleased at what I saw. I went out and bought one and the video I watched said to try it with different stitches but I did forget to change the foot so I broke it within an hour-/ so I have to go to Joannes and get another one but I watched your video and with that tape that you used at least I was able to see the difference and now I have to get the tape to so thank you very much for your very informative video-/
I am short-waisted, live in a small town, and the local store stopped carrying petite clothes. All of my t-shirts look ridiculously long on me! I have a very old Bernette 200. I'm going to be checking the owner's book to see what it says about double needles. Thank you for this video!
I tried using a twin needle with some thicker topstitching thread on some jeans, and the machine found it a bit of a struggle, but recently I tried instead to use standard thread with the triple/stretch stitch (the one that stitches forward, back, and forward). It sewed much more smoothly, and produced the same bold stitches as you'd get with thicker thread. Leaves a pretty unusual reverse side.
Oh Jen, here we go again! You always seem to be in tune with what I'm working on,gosh, how do you do that? lol I am working on some slip covers for a rocking chair, they have ties on the sides of the cushions to keep them from slipping, I just completed the top cushion and naturally when I sewed my ties I went down the folded side and then up the other side. I didn't even think about My twin needle, but as I took a break, I saw that You were there and Gee Whiz, You know I'm going to make the bottom cushion ties with the twin needle, SNAP!! Thanks 😊 again for always being there for Me ❤️ You're a Doll! Have a great weekend and I'll be looking forward to another great tip from You 😊! XX Marie-Wisconsin
I have been watching as many videos as I can on twin needles for a coverstitch look. Maybe someday I can buy a Coverstitch machine, they are just too expensive right now. Thank you so much! I did buy something like wonder tape online already. I have one size 2 twin needle that came with my sewing machine. But I ordered a 4.
Also may be worth trying Mettler Seraflex thread. They sent me some and I really like it! It's still not exactly the same as a coverstitch machine but the thread stretches, but still behaves more like standard thread.
Hi Jen, Thanks for the very informative video. For some reason, my thread gets twisted in the right needle and then caught in the bobbin. It makes me think the needle eye is not large enough. But they seem to all be the same eye size on the Schmetz twin needles. Any thoughts on why this may be happening?
Wow, thanks for teaches us about the wonder tape, I bought some on Amazon as double sided tape and I had no idea! Very cool. I just subscribed to your channel. O love how you sign off like a reporter. ❤️
Thanks for publishing this. I’m having trouble with the fabric between the twin stitches on the outside of the garment puckering up. It’s like my bobbin thread is too tight and it’s pulling it in the back. I can’t figure out how to remedy that. Any suggestions?
So I had similar issues when using my twin needle. The bobbin thread pulled so much, that it was no longer zigzagged on the back and didn't actuall stretch. I played around a little and ended changing the tension on my upper thread to 7ish which helped a little. I still got a bit of a pucker between the two rows of stitches on the top of my fabric, but I did get the stretchy zigzag stitch on the back. Yay! I'm going to buy some wonder tape and see if that takes care of the puckering issue better. That should, I think, help with the bobbin thread pulling also. I hope. lol
Thanks for a great video -very helpful I have tried it and my issue is increased tunneling. How do I avoid that or correct it? I was not using a stretch- twin needle. This was on a heavy knit T-shirt. I haven’t used wonder tape yet. I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks again
You can not use a twin needle unless you have a stitch plate with the wider decorative stitch hole. You may be able to purchase a separate plate for your specific machine, fingers crossed for you, it does look incredible.
I have the brother ce1125prw sewing machine. I need a twin needle that’s 1/2inch wide. I don’t understand the sizing at all. Does the 2.0/90 mean it’s 2mm. Which one would be the 1/2 inch twin needle?
I found using the walking foot especially on stretch fabrics stops the fabric from shifting. I wouldn’t be without my walking food now. It’s so versatile xx❤️
If you have a great tip for sewing with a twin needle or hemming knits in particular - feel free to share it here in the comments!

I use the Amazon generic wonder tape and it's totally fine. SO much cheaper than the name brand!

I recently started using a twin needle. I have used my regular presser foot so far. So far no problems.
Thank you for staying right on point; it was very informative and you did not waste time with empty talk!
Thank you so much for this class, God bless you!🥰😇😍

THANK YOU
I notice your stitching is beautifully near the edge of your hem but not overlapping it. How wide did you cut your hem please?
Absolutely love this tutorial. Thanks so much.
Yay!!! Appreciate the love!
Thank you for very much, this is very helpful.
Thanks. I just bought a 6mm twin needle, it is very nice. I just don't know what is the right settings for the thread tension, I have to experiment.
If you don’t mind me asking? Where did you find the 6 mm twin needle?
@@annhan777 they sell them at Joann’s! 😊
Thank you so much! This was very helpful 🎉

I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks again
Have you tried decreasing the tension on your machine?
Did you find the wide toed foot an advantage with the TN to help prevent the tunneling?
thank you for your post.. ❤️❤️
Thank you for this information. I never knew!
Very helpful tutorial, thank you :)
Can I use a twin needle with a walking foot?
Can these needles be use in the singer heavy duty 4452 machine
I have a narrow hole in my needle plate. Any idea if I can use the twin needle? Thank you

Hi what about the bobbin thread ? Do i have to pull it out pr just leave it and start sewing??

Hello, I used with the straight stitch?? Not the zig zag?? My machine only work the straight stitch!!
A 'Teflon Foot' really helped with skipped stitches..
im usin a twin needle i just got it, its new and suddenly my thread keeps breakin, do you know why ?
I didn’t notice, what kind of presser foot did you use? Can you use the walking foot?
Christine McMains she used her decorative stitch foot but also shows it with the walking foot. 🙂 Happy Sewing.
I found using the walking foot especially on stretch fabrics stops the fabric from shifting. I wouldn’t be without my walking food now. It’s so versatile xx❤️
It might be obvious but twin needle can be used on zigzag machines only. They won't work on straight stitch only machines.
thanks
I serge the hem first then turn it and use the twin needle. That way the ugly back stitching is camouglaged by ther serger thred.
Yes me too Marion and that makes it look more professional
I keep breaking them 😒
Thanks so much. That was really helpful 😍
