8 Foods to Avoid For Kidney Disease video demonstrates 8 foods that you should avoid on a kidney failure diet.
If your kidneys are functioning not properly, Sai Sanjivani doctors may prescribe best kidney failure diet to the patient with optimum amount of potassium, sodium, protein and all other nutrients. What you eat and cannot eat depends upon your kidney function, and other causes, diabetes and high blood pressure. Following a meal plan that meets your needs will keep all the nutrients in the blood at normal levels, improves kidney function and decrease the accumulation of waste material in the body. Here is a list of 8 food items which you should avoid to keep you on track:
1. Protein
If you are suffering from kidney disease, you must know that low-protein diet is beneficial for your kidney health. As kidneys are not working well, eating a protein-free diet will lower the workload on the kidneys. If you consume a lot of protein, level of creatinine and urea increases. At Sai Sanjivani, we advice our patients to take 1 bowl of Moong Dal ( Vegetarians) or 2 egg Whites (Non-Vegetarians)
2. Caffeine
Kidney patients who consume a lot of caffeine causes kidney damage to worsen. Since high blood pressure is the cause of kidney failure, caffeine increases the risk of blood pressure. At Sai Sanjivani, we advice all patients to avoid caffeine to control blood pressure.
3. Salt
Eating salt-free diet is beneficial to control high blood pressure. Sodium restriction is always recommended to all kidney failure patients as sodium and fluid can build up in your body. Limit or cut out salty foods from your diet to support your overall kidney health.
4. Artificial Sweeteners
It has been found that artificial sweeteners are not safe to use by kidney failure patients. They are a great option to sweeten foods but they do affect blood sugar levels. Blood sugar spikes could cause further complications in Diabetic patients.
5. Dairy products
Any type of milk product such as milk, cheese and yogurt has to be avoided by kidney failure patient. As these milk products are rich in protein, calcium and phosphorus are not good for someone on a a kidney failure diet.
6. NSAID's and Antibiotics
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and antibiotics should be never used by kidney patients as they increase the workload of the kidneys in filtering the blood. Avoid or minimize further kidney damage by avoiding medications that can affect your kidneys.
7. Alcohol
Regularly drinking can cause damage to the kidneys. Recent studies have shown that heavy drinking has been found to double the risk kidney disease. Alcohol changes the functioning of the kidneys and makes them weak to filter the blood.
8. High potassium fruits and vegetables
Sai Sanivani doctors will let you know whether you need to avoid or limit potassium in your foods or not. If your potassium levels are high than 7.0 mEq/L, then it may cause you heart attack or requires immediate treatment. When I was younger I was a drug and drug abuser been clean now for 5 years by the grace of God to God be the glory. Been there mate, screwed mine up pretty bad aswell. See your GP, If they are that bad he will refer you to a specialist. In the mean time dont keep taking painkillers, it makes the kidneys work even harder. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day. Hope it works out for you.
