From what i understand AND have experienced, the discovery of the TSH and ability to measure it, has caused doctors to stop diagnosing by symptoms. I had ALL of the symptoms of hypo and it was bad. My eyebrows shrank to 1/2 their length, my colon was "absolutely packed with faeces" according to an xray my dr did, I was COLD my heart rate was sluggish. And as you said, he did a tsh and said it was in the normal range...I think at the time it was around 3. Fortunately I had done my research and asked for a thyroid antibody test and it was "low positive" and he still insisted my tsh was normal. I said no, please prescribe synthroid because I am NOT normal. I was shortly up to 88 mcg and finally felt normal again. That was easily 7 years ago, in the last couple of years I've been adding a drop of iodine to my daily selenium supplement. Hopefully that's not bad.

Iodine supplementation requires TSH to rise to make sodium symporter needed to move iodine into cell..... so TSH not good marker. Also cortisol is naturally higher in AM and it could interfere with T4 to T3 conversion... I finally figured this out after 2 years! Now I take T3 only in AM, then take NP THYROID (T4 +T3) in afternoon.... finally, it seems to work. Plus I put lugol's in my water.... just enough

I'm a male who was diagnosed with Graves disease in my mid-30s. No matter the dosage of methimazole my T3 and T4 hormones were off the charts and wouldn't come down. I developed severe psoriasis and I felt like I was having a heart attack every time I did anything that required exertion. Then my endocrinologist changed my diet and asked me to avoid carbs and replace the calories with organic meat and veggies. I did as she asked and within a few weeks I felt like a different person. Within a few months I was completely off medications.

I went on a juice fast, cleaned out my body, then on a plant based, no processed foods. Went back to the doctor and my tests were perfect, no more pills. I have stayed on a plant based diet without processed foods and have never needed pills again, this has been 10 years .

She always use woods when cooking, no rice cooker, non sticky pan etc. She used clay pots too when cooking and she stores her water in a big clay jar and she used her own backyard to plant veggies and fruits. I remembered my grandma when she told me that I am eating chemically produced food but I was young at that time so i didnt mind it. Now i have thyroid issues too.

I complained to my doctor (internist) about feeling tired all the time and asked him to check my thyroid and all he did was get the lab to check my TSH, which was normal. Later, I decided to go to a wellness clinic, where they did a full thyroid panel and discovered that my reverse T3 was high. Ask your doctor to do a full thyroid panel.

    • @robertp7209

You need the specialist, endocrine doctor. Family doctors know little to nothing about it, but try to keep you to get the co pay, they many times avoid sending you to specialists which can be dangerous or worse at times, then your on,y recourse when getting worse ends up in a hospital. And get second opinions, different endocrine doctors treat differently, and much depends how you feel, if you feel ok they do nothing, rightfully so. But loosing or gaining weight, mood and sleep changes, and the like, have to be addressed. Not waited on.

My GP tells me that they have to follow the NHS guidelines, so diet advice. These kind of videos and some books have helped me to get my levothyroxin prescription down from 175mcg to 100mcg in 2019. Now again trying to get it down gradually until remission, hopefully within 12 months. My tsh readings have been going down in the last 9 months. In UK, tsh has to be less than 0.21. Last time it was 0.91, before that 2.25 and higher before than. So it is very slow process even with a right diet and the right supplements. I shall know within 2 weeks if there is a reduction in my levothyroxin prescription.

Synthroid almost killed me. I was prescribed it for hypothyroidism and my thyroid started working again. I started having trouble with memory, my neurological system (had tremors and couldn’t control my bowel movements), and developed tachycardia.
They then gave me something to “cool” my thyroid and I still felt horrible. So, I prayed about it and God told me to stop taking everything and to look up treating hyperthyroidism. I found a site (back in line 2005, before the internet became what it is today) and found a blog that mentioned a regiment with vitamins and minerals. It was better than anything else, but I still have issues with tachycardia.

Also, if you're able to get Korean kimchi where you're at, it is very good for the stomach biome. Any fermented vegetable is very good for you and kimchi has the natural good bacterias for healthy digestion. Usually kimchi has garlic in it too which is very healthy for you.

@@littlebear7440- I have researched extensively and long. Dr Ekberg is one of the best in the world for his deep understanding about the relationship between food and health. The majority of doctors will "treat" you with allopathic medicine, which in sum, is the oil medicine introduced my Rockefeller at the beginning of the xx century. I've already cured myself from adenocarcinoma stage by quitting chemo, cutting sugar, increasing fiber and promoting gut bioma + supplements, because our food lacks os proper nutrients. Work on your peace of mind. Negative emotions are the open door for diseases. I've been diagnosed with multi nodular non-toxic thyroid. Brazilian doctors are not different from other good doctors around the world. The problem come from their training in treating symptoms instead finding the real cause of the symptoms. There is much more to say about it but I think I've said the basic approach I take. Thank you very much for your kind reply! Take care and be happy 💜🙏

Sorry to hear that. Sadly, it seems that doctor's don't want to tell people the negative effects of medication and procedures. If they did, a lot of people probably wouldn't take the medication or have the procedure done and then they (and the hospital and the pharmaceutical companies) wouldn't make as much money. My dentist told me once that I want to make sure to try to keep all of my original teeth....that it's never the same without them. The same is probably true for all internal organs. It's too bad we aren't taught (or at the very least doctors) more about nutrition and the important roll everything plays and how our internal system works together. Dr. Ekberg recommends for people to find a professional but most professionals don't know much about nutrition and they don't tell you anything until you actually have a problem. I just had bloodwork and I am at 1.3 for TSH and my doctor said absolutely nothing. I had to go in and ask for a copy of my bloodwork and look at everything myself. Our entire system is backwards.

She is now on 1/4 of her original dose. The further healing took place after she lowered her lectin load, cut most sugar, ate mostly organic, and supplemented with 1 brazil nut a day for selenium, small doses magnesium, and zinc, and alternate days multivitamin and b-complex, and added omega 3 foods and olive oil. She made several changes at once, so she is not sure which changes are responsible but something is really working.

Hi! There is definitely a water connection bc if there is a high level of fluoride in the water, which is a hormone disruptor that negatively impacts the thyroid. Fluoride interferes with your bodies ability to properly absorb iodine which is critical for optimal thyroid health and performance. For this reason it is best to drink purified water, install a reverse osmosis filter if using tap water and use glass bottles due to the plastic toxins interfering with thyroid function as well. You may also want to increase your iodine intake to offset the effects of fluoride and flush out excess. Eat iodine rich seafood, like cod and shrimp a few times a week, a few servings of seaweed, eggs and potatoes also contain iodine. Also use a fluoride free toothpaste.

It's also the tainted livestock poisoned with antibiotics, steroids, corn and soy. It's also the genetically modified crops treated with chemicals. The pasteurization process which turns dairy into poison. The soaps, laundry detergents, body washes, shampoos, conditioners, make up, antiperspirants, and (syn)thetic clothing we wear which leeches into our pours. The sunscreen that blocks our ability to utilize the sun's rays, plus the cloud seeding that clouds up the sky. I just got dx with Hashimoto’s. The only reason I was able to get the test is because my sister has it. I’ve been begging for the antibodies test for years and told no. I had many questions and couldn't not get in to see her for 4 months. I tried a second opinion and was lucky to get a cancellation from another Endo. She said said right away I need to have it burned out -radiation- or removed. Those were the only 2 options. I am terrified to have it removed. Why didn the other Endo say this in looking at the same charts. Also said I should not be on Methimazole more than 18 months. It's been well over 2 years... I don't know what to do and no luck finding another Endo without waiting another 4-6 months for an appt.

Thank you for an important and great video! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2002. I had NO symptoms. I was misdiagnosed in my opinion. It was my diet, if anything. Since early 2019, I have been doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting. I eat OMAD. I am slowly getting off Synthroid. No doctor because they all say this drug you have to take forever. I am down to one pill a day. I have been slowly coming off Synthroid since January. I will take my last one in two weeks. My hair has started to get thicker and I feel better. Maybe it's because I want off this drug that bad. I've done my research. I was misdiagnosed in 2002 AND I never should have been put on Synthroid. Anyway, I'm NOT suggesting that anyone do this but when I set my mind to something, I'm going to do it. Very interesting! Physical activity and diet DO AFFECT your thyroid levels a lot, sometimes more than the hormone replacement dose. But here's my experience and I hope it helps someone. Iodine is used mostly by the thyroid but ALL cells in the body need a little too so even if your thyroid got removed or does not work anymore (like mine), iodine intake is essential. You see, I developed hyperthyroidism at 25yo while in service (I blame experimental drugs during the 1st Gulf War) and got radioactive iodine treatment so I've been hypothyroid since '97. Had the same Synthroid dose of 150mcg for over 20 yrs. Tried other brands but that's the one that works. Not having a thyroid messes with one's body so much. Mood, skin, temp regulation, muscle recovery. I hate it but hey, it is what it is. I have to take it exactly at 6am everyday on empty stomach and not eat anything for 2 hrs after, not even coffee or i'll feel lethargic all day. My lipid levels were all out of whack too because of my thyroid but it was also my diet which was lots of vegs, carbs and not enough protein and fat. I never put lots of weight because I limited my caloric intake and exercise often but, It wasn't until 7 months ago when I switched to %100 carnivore and increased my iodine and electrolyte intake, that my lipid levels improved a lot! (cholesterol in the 400s, HDL in the 60s and triglycerides came way way down below 100 from the 400s), My testosterone levels got to the higher normal range and muscle recovery and temp regulation improved. My TSH went from 7.46 to 2.43 and FreeT4 from .78 to a healthy 1.36 and T3 from 42 to 125, all without Synthroid dose change. I haven't felt this energetic since my 20s! I can speed walk one day 10 miles in 2.5 hrs and not feel at all worned out the next day. I attribute that to the Carnivore diet.

@@tarintanjina9071 No iodine supplements but you may consider Lugol's brand iodine supplement. I just consume plenty of salt (Himalayan pink salt or Redmond Real Salt). I believe I get my iodine from the beef, and localyl farmed eggs (at least 6 a day) which should have more iodine than regular ones since is very cloise to the coast. Having a no working thyroid, I believe my iodine requirements is lower than somebody that still has a working thyroid. When it comes to electrolytes, I supplement with Redmon Relyte, LMNT or Dr. Bergs Electrolytes, I switch brands often but always unflavored. I believe that Dr. Ekberg also has his brand of electrolyte as well and. I hear is pretty good. Whatever you decide to get, just make sure it has no sugar, of course. When it comes to the diet, I eat all kinds of meats, mostly beef but also occasionally pork, chicken (the fattier parts only, highs or wings) and salmon as well as eggs and some cheeses. Carnivore has only one cardinal rule: Absolutely no carbs/starches/sugars/grains/veg oils at all. Check out Dr. Ken D Berry on YT on beginner videos. Is a really simple diet, actually not a diet since you get to eat as much as you feel, just not carbs. Best of luck.

A couple of points the Medical profession doesn't know about. Goiters rarely occur here in the states, due to halogen poisoning. The Iodine receptor, when filled with other halogens, cause miscommunication (Usually comes across as some sort of body pain). However, it also prevents goiters from being formed. Fibromyalgia is in fact, Bromine poisoning, usually due to drinking acidic (bromine is that tart flavor) drinks like Mountain Dew for decades. As an aside, "almost all" apparent negative reactions to Iodine are in fact caused by a detox reaction. If it's not detox it means you are also deficient in in the other required co-factors needed for regulation of the thyroid. To Your Great Health!

Hair loss, lost 13lbs in 3wks, tired, no appetite, brittle nails, dry skin, red foot, toes blue numb and cold, swollen left leg up to my knee and more. I complained for a year and it took 9 months to get a scan of lump in my neck. Dr said it was Cortisol/stress and that Climara won’t cause hair loss. Funny I didn’t have these or a lump til I started it.
Today is day one without wearing a patch and I’m praying my TSH will be lower next week when they do labs. I didn’t ask if I should stop the HRT(Climara) but it’s my body the way I see it. lol The only physician I trust is God. He is The One that Heals us and I prayed for everyone in this comment section to be healed.
Made me sad when I saw your TSH was 40 😔. I pray that you will be able to get your meds with ease but really I’m praying you will be healed. Sending hugs your way ❤️🤗

Thank you, finally someone who gets it. I am female, my thyroid issues started 1982 age 18, with a small lump in the throat. My GP here in the UK, took a wait and see path. Bloods checked yearly.
Fast forward to January 2012, me aged 48. These lumps on my thyroid got bigger and I finally saw a ENT. He did a fine needle aspiration of thyroid which revealed it was full of thyroid antibody cells. I was then diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, which bloods confirmed.
MARCH 2012 I was really unwell including jaundice. I was taken into hospital from the doctors surgery, I was so unwell. Tests confirmed thyrotoxicosis and the shocker, autoimmune liver disease....oh yes...AIH overlap PBC.
I still have no treatment for Hashimoto's and its now 30 years and counting. I have 6 nodules on the thyroid and they include parathyroid glands. Still no treatment but, I can have surgery to remove the thyroid if I wish because my blood work always comes back normal within our UK guidelines.
I am fully aware of the link between AIH and Hashimoto's however my GP always skirts around the link between the two.
I have a good quality of life on some days despite the AIH and PBC overlap thanks to treatment however, there is still imbalance in my body which my GP cannot explain.
Last year I had issues with the liver, which affected my gut extremely badly. I couldn't eat for 4 weeks. Had bloods done and a fibroscan which indicated fatty liver. Yes another little addition to the liver family.
I am so frustrated as you can imagine. I am fully aware that if something had been done to help me in the 80s, my liver would be OK now and if doctors here understood all of this then my life and many others would be much better.
    Thank you.

I received radioiodine therapy one off treatment and was told I didn't need any more medication.
I was told by a surgeon that what I have was nothing to worry about that I should enjoy life and not to worry.
I was told recently in 2022 that there is nothing they can do and the only way is to get rid of the thyroid.
I also live in London UK and I feel let down despite the nodulos my thyroid hormones are said to be normal.
I have asked several times about the level of my iodine and I try to have a healthy diet.
I am still not sure about the surgery. I wish you well.

I don't think I can have radioactive iodine, because I have also developed autoimmune liver disease too.
So, I got diagnosed finally, with hashimotos in January 2012 then in the April of 2012, I was taken into hospital very unwell with jaundice. I was then diagnosed with autoimmune liver disease.
What I have is not related to alcohol because I don't drink. I just don't like the taste of alcohol. The first thing people ask when you mention liver, is how much did you drink to cause this. There is such a lot of stigma.
There is also a link between hashimotos and autoimmune liver disease. I'm not saying that everyone with hashimotos, will go on to develop autoimmune liver disease, just that it happens sometimes.
There is a lot of truth in the saying "where there's one autoimmune condition, there can be more".

@@nickbardan3867 yes, selenium is more concentrated in the thyroid than any gland. Selenium acts as a brake on the oxidation of H2O2 and TPO converting iodide to iodine in the thyroid. B1 and B2 can also be deficient. Therefore lack of selenium is a major cause of hashomotos but iodine is a cofactor. If you add selenium to reduce the antibodies that's great but if you don't address low iodine levels which is almost everyone you are not optimizing health. The challenge is there is no good test unless you do 24 50mg load. Another test is fluorescent xray of the thyroid. The thyroid can hold 50mg iodine. If the person is below 5 they are severely deficient.

Good information, but too late for me. Many years ago I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. The “therapy” I got from an endocrinologist was two doses of radioactive iodine. At this point, my thyroid appears to be dead and I have to take 100mcg levothyroxin every day for the rest of my life. No one ever even attempted to explain the thyroid problem to me.

I'm sorry you were a victim of mainstream medicine. It's worse because millions of others are in the same boat. A former coworker of mine had her thyroid removed and she took synthroid. I told her about coconut oil, which she started taking one spoonful a day. Her dose of synthroid had to be reduced. She didn't tell her doctor what she was doing (the doc probably would have told her to stop). I can't give you advice, but you can decide what to do with this info.

Dang! This guy is brilliant! I just learned so much! For 15 yrs I have gone round and round w several doctors about my thyroid. My numbers are either barely in the perimeters or a little outside the perimeters. I have all symptoms of thyroid issues(hypo) except I have run hot since my hysterectomy so cold, I am not. The other is my heart rate. It has always run higher than it should. I have a goiter, exhausted all the time, have nodules in my thyroid which hurt, dry course hair that is falling out, constant sore throat, dry skin etc. Finally after all these yrs my doctor puts me on meds. I take my first one and OMG I lay here for 1.5 hours feeling as if I'm having a heart attack. Call my doc and ask to change meds or better yet send me to an endocrinologist. Her response "Come back in 2 months. I will recheck your blood." What does that have to do w a reaction to the meds??" I am Hypo from all signs so why not send me to somebody who knows what they're doing??? Dang I wish I could see this guy!! I'm tired of this kick the can down the road attitude these doctors have!!! I just want to feel better!! 😢

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 35 years ago, with no more advice than to swallow the pills and I'd soon be feeling better again. Well as many can guess that simply hasn't happened and I've just had to live my life around this disease, that is often made too lightly of by society and most Doctors themselves. I wish all the information that you have given to us was around sooner ,coupled with all the diet advice that we now know about .So that anyone that is now diagnosed has the best chance of the least amount of disruption to their well being.

And going on a very low carb diet to control excessive insulin production, which has finally allowed me to lose weight. A predominantly plant based diet didn't suit me as it didn't allow me to absorb enough natural heme iron and natural vitamin B12. There are many more nutrients to have to consider as well, that you could find harder to obtain when you have Hashimoto's, and you are trying to reduce your symptoms of it. Dr. Ekberg mentions zinc and selenium as 2 more examples here in this video.

And who addresses causes (the two go together!)...It would seem that lousy water, excesses (or any amount) of lousy grains and massive stress are the root cause of so many health problems. As Joel Salatin says, we have an agricultural system that cares not about health and a health system that cares not about food. One day we will have an accounting system that includes ALL costs!
