Fast-forward 8yrs later to 2023 and we're both great. It was a life changing experience for me as much as it was for him. I wouldn't change anything.

I felt this was strange because there was never any problems with my eGFR in the past. I had recently started taking fenofibrate and thought perhaps that was causing the abnormal eGFR results. After discontinuing fenofibrate, my eGFR readings returned to normal and my kidneys are working just fine. Perhaps there are other people out there who are being told they have stage 3 chronic kidney disease which is actually being caused by medications they're taking.

I ended up with severe (stage 4) kidney disease due to a severe urinary tract infection. I didn't feel the usual symptoms of the UTI because I'm paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury, and I have no sensation below the level of my injury, so it snuck up on me and went systemic. Oddly, I don't have insulin resistance or diabetes. That could be due to my diet. I'm vegan, and have never been someone who eats sweets. One odd thing is that even though I'm not doing dialysis (I take meds which keep me alive, and which would be filtered out leading to my death if I did), my kidney functions have returned to near close to normal. My creatinine level has been measured at 2.0 for the last three times they have tested it. My doctor says that you can't reverse end stage kidney disease, but that whatever I'm doing, I should keep it up. As I said before, I'm vegan, and in addition I eat almost no processed foods. I pretty much make everything I eat from scratch, and I even grow some of my own food, including many of the herbs and spices I use. A lot of herbs and spices can be grown indoors. I even grow my own ginger and turmeric inside. The turmeric is super easy to dehydrate and grind in a spice grinder or coffee mill, and when you make it fresh like that, it tastes so much better than anything you can get commercially that there simply isn't any comparison.
But I digress. Another thing I do which might be helping is that I drink a lot of water. Since I'm paralyzed, I have to drink a lot of water to try to prevent UTI's. Drinking water is good for the kidneys, and also helps keep things clean. I live in a city where the water is particularly good, and where the city water supply comes from artesian wells. It tastes better than anything you can get in bottles, and it's not chlorinated all to the devil, and isn't fluoridated. It's just good sweet water which feels great going down.
I don't necessarily recommend my diet for others, but it has definitely worked for me. If you are in stage 4, and nothing else is working, you might try going vegan, not consuming much sugar, bread, drinking lots of water, and refraining from eating processed foods.
Keep in mind that my kidney disease was not the result of diabetes, and I have no idea what this sort of diet might have on someone with diabetes. Still, what Dr Ekberg is saying fits with what I've been eating all my life. i was diagnosed pre-diabetic when i was 8 and full diabetes when i was 10 and again when we moved to europe when i was 12, and when we moved to the usa when i was 14 or so and it was bad... i also had degenerative arthritis. doctors told me i would have to have knee surgery because i could barely walk. i was swolen everywhere. then i discovered why i was such a mess. at 17 i cut all chemicals, preservatives, colors, etc. then i cut processed food. then i cut all products that had sugar in the ingredient that were not fermented. then i cut bovine dairy. by then i was 19. by 21, i was body building and doing triathlons. they cannot find any sign of diabetes, arthritis, or tooth decay on me since then... i am in my upper 60's... the last time i had a cold or flu was early 80's. i have not been to a doctor since i left the airforce nearly 20yrs ago. i grow my own food and generate most of my own energy and cut my own firewood and split it with an axe instead of gas guzzling machine. i am physically very active as a result. when i die, i want to be composted and fed to my orchard and garden that are my oasis. live in balance with nature or die badly. live well 🙂

I love you health experts on utube who are educating us on diet and what’s needed to turn things around. I’m stage 2 fatty liver cirrhosis, was telling my doctor for about 3 years I was hurting in my liver area, he laughed it off, turns out I was feeling my liver go bad. Since then, in the past several months, I’ve been following and listening to people like this man, and I’m slowly changing my diet, I had topped out at 165, I’m down to 148 now, and I’m 5’3’ female, most of my weight now is in my mid section. I was also diagnosed as President- diabetic, a doctor on utube said, no such thing, you better change your eatting habits now because you are headed to insulin or metformin in a matter of time. Doctors can’t tell the truth all the time, goverment pushes unhealthy diet so we have to take unhealthy meds. So glad to be able to listen to these experts!

Great HOMA-IR explanation!! That starts at the 11:30 mark. The key is to ask your doctor to include a test called 'Glucose' on your normal blood labs as well as a test called 'Insulin' so you can calculate your HOMA-IR which is showing whether you have Insulin Resistance and/or Type 2 Diabetes. Doctors are sometimes 'resistant!' ha ha to adding the 'Insulin' test to your labs but just ask them calmly and that you are interested in your own health. Dr. Ekberg explains it all really clearly.

    Dear Dr Ekberg,
First of all I would like to wish you a very happy and safe new year!
Secondly I would like to thank you for your extensive research and hard work in which you have been passing it on to us! Much appreciated
I am a diabetic type 2 since a very long time! I never took any tablet or insulin for my diabetes management. I believe there is something not quite right with my diabetes!! I was hoping you might be able to help me or shed some light on it!
I have always been very active person; I never eat lots of sweet or sugar especially the last two years or so! I do not smoke or drink alcohol. In the morning I usually eat two eggs in the morning with a toasted slice of protein bread or some time I just take a coffee. I have one main meal a day and that is usually around 16:00-17:00 and never later. My diet always includes big bowel of salad with Greek cheese and lots of olive oil. My diet usually contained at least 4-5 portions of the super vegetable you mentioned in your lectures.
When I wake up in the morning my blood sugar level is always between 8 to 9! When I am hungry my blood sugar level never goes down only when I eat! During Ramadan I usually fast 20 hrs on average per day, you would expect my sugar level to go down but it is usually around 9 or 10!!!
The moment I eat something even if it was a piece of fruit like dates or figs my sugar level goes down!? Also to give you an idea yesterday when I woke up my BSL was 8.5. I had my usual breakfast and went for 4km walk which I usually do every day when possible. My sugar lever gradually came down and by the time I went to bed it around 22:00 it was 6.5!
I tried a special test recommended by my Endocrinologist in Zurich that took nearly two months to complete (DNA test?) the test could not identify my type of diabetes? That was a waste of CHF 2000!! Just so you know my HbA1c is around 7 (when I am behaving well with food)!! And my Thyroid test is normal! Thou I have one thyroid removed in 2014 and this was compensated by an additional tablet of thyroxin level .50 every day.
I am 65 years of age! What do you think is the case here?
I appreciate your input since you seem more up to speed in term of medical as well as dietary knowledge
Many thanks and sincere best wishes
    Al

My kidney disease was caused by a medication that I was taken for my diabetes. My kidney disease was discovered by routine blood test, that my Endocrinologist gave me. The Creatinine level was elevated (2.4). I then had a biopsy of my kidneys. The found scarring on my kidneys. I was diagnosed with stage three kidney disease. After I was taken off my diuretics, given a MRI; the doctors said the cause of my kidney disease was the medication I was taken for my diabetes. My Creatinine has stayed the same, since I was taken off the medication. Since this was a first for this medication, they doctor wrote a paper about this.

Doc, I am going to be 66 and have been a digger for health truths for many decades (after watching the nightmare of chem warfare aka big FARMA-AHHH my mom went through). You are the FIRST person to educate me on this subject in a way that it made perfect sense and I thank you. ❤ (I never fully understood the insulin/glucose relationship) Clean the floor!!!! 👍

The body is such an intelligent design in every aspect, it's mind boggling in how complex it is. The human eye, DNA, kidneys, the liver the heart and the list goes on and on. Our creator gave us a lot of things to marvel at !! Thank you Doctor Sten for explaining much of this to us in layman's terms. I think if mankind hadn't ruined our own food supplies in favor of the all mighty dollar, we would be much healthier and with less disease.

It has been said that Darwin admitted that if complexity of design could be proven that his theory would not hold up. Complexity of design proves there is a designer/creator.

Dr. Ekberg, first but less important: "nocturnia" is a typo -- you mean "nocturia." Second and more vital: your videos helped me reverse my high blood pressure with diet alone, and you started me on a path of learning about nutrition and my own health that are affecting not only me, but my family and my community. I really appreciate what you're doing. Thank you!
