The curved boulders are perfect for curled foils.
Just put your Pringled foil commander deck in curving the opposite way and it’ll eventually straighten your cards out....
That gets me thinking, there should be a special heated deckbox or something that tried to help uncurl cards
I hate laughing at this but it's perfect lol!
@@Bargadiel Bovida humidity packets have been working surprisingly well for me for that aspect. Put 1 of their 58% packets in a deck box with the curled cards and they will begin to un-pringle. Then a 72% one in the card collection will help them not curl in the first place.
@@TheShadowreaper179 It depends if your cards are curling because of too much moisture or not enough. There is really low humidity in doors year round where I live so the curve can't be corrected by removing moisture and I have tried adding moisture to curved cards but once curved they won't flatten out.
"It's firm. It's hard. It's a little over ten bucks" will be my tag line if I ever have to work a corner

Highly underrated comment, not gonna lie!
"It's firm, it's hard, it's a little over 10 bucks, and it's a solid enthusiastic D."
I really want to love satin tower as much as prof but I can't. Bought myself some nice new furniture for the first time in my life. Within weeks, picked up my satin tower from the top and a few feet above my table, the bottom half falls and makes a giant gaping dent in my table. I guess the good thing I can say is they're solid enough to dent hardwood. Been using boulders ever since.
@@pooperthepoopable yeah and I have to yank mine open with a lot of force just to get it open and I don't want to do that
@@HerrDerpington screw you I have to clean my monitor now :P
The answer is yes, we Yugioh players do ask that question.
Can confirm, I play yugioh, standard, commander, pauper I am broke.
@@Fluffy_Kun fun fact: when you color print your cards protecting em is not that urging
Honestly, the deckfast seems to me like it might be better for Yugioh, especially if you have a deck that uses counters, since I wonder if it might actually be able to close with sleeved cards inside with the tray still being usable.
:O
we yugioh players have a lot in common with you magic lot.
Cube for that bit of extra card room for decks with tokens, Boulders for decks that have none or few tokens. Towers for decks that want dice. Fantastic.
The Tower is great for my Kathril EDH deck as I need room for dice and keyword counters.
I have a cheap mono red commander deck single sleeved in a Boulder with some tokens...is good. The cube is exciting though.
My satin tower literally got melted by the exhaust on my motorcycle when my saddle bag accidentally was put on wrong.
The cards were undamaged. The box still functions perfectly and protects my cards.
Best boxes for protection.
You had me worried. Do you have a picture? Really curious about the melted satin tower
"Pros: You are not forced to purchase this." And thank god for that. What were they thinking?
That Satin Cube though. That looks very nice.
I mean, if there was no dice tray, wouldn't it make for an okay deck box?
@@regirayquaza Oh yeah without the tray there would be enough room and it would probably be fine.
Or, as the Professor said, RAISE THE TOP UP AN INCH OR TWO AND YOU'LL STILL BE ABLE TO FIT SLEEVED CARDS AND HAVE ROOM FOR THE DICE TRAY!
@@michaelbreen7865 The slight gap would probably drive me insane.
@@animeking1357 Maybe, but at least it would close without you taking out the dice compartment.
"There is no safer place than a satin deck box" *desires to crawl inside of a deck box to feel safe again*
It is a good place to hide your life's savings. Even if people find out that it is in there, they can't open it
I think the eco-friendly boulders are among the most supportable products when it comes to tcg accessories. To me, crafting a quality product, that is simultaniously both eco friendly and amongst the top shelf of deck boxes, is fantastic, considering it is their *first* try at it. Cant wait to se further developement from Ultimate Guard!
The boulders are somewhat see-through, which is nice. I can see the front card and sleeve back.
the only knock on boulders are the fact that the film on them will wear off on the corners over time if you just throw them in a backpack for storage.
There are see-through Towers too
Love the pros for the deckfast box is " you are not forced to purchase this"
me too, got me lol-ing that one :))
I love how passionate the Professor gets about the satin towers. Really warms my heart.
It made me happy to see you struggle to open the cube, I thought I was just really weak or something
Those Return to Earth boxes... WOW! I can totally look past the flaws, that is such an awesome initiative. I hope more companies follow suit!
I love love love my boulders, original ones are getting hard to find though
Man you really trust those boulders, you risked your Sygg, River Guide Deck
They’re legit the best. There’s no reason to buy any other inexpensive deck box honestly.
boulders rock, but ive found some combo of innersleeves and play sleeves dont always fit 100 doublesleeve cards safely with out having to jam in that last card. satin towers are the best by far. easily 100+ double sleeved plus dice and counter space.
@@seabastian7996 As the professor said, I guess it is to personal preference. I personally prefer the size of the boulders. In the end it is us, the consumers, that win if we have different options with a high quality and a low price.
@@seabastian7996 have you tried just having the last cards sitting in the side? Like perpendicular to the rest of the cards
I love the boulders. I have like 16 different color combos that match the guild colors of the deck inside or pure for a mono colored deck.
How in the good god damn do you make a deck box that can't close? Like what amphetamines were they smoking?
I'm so confused.
The best part is that they *knowingly* did so.
@@Lady_Kitsune09 I would bet they knowingly wrote the instructions after they got the product in hand and then someone realized...oh shit guys, we fucked up.
@@Lady_Kitsune09 and then afterwards, instead of simply fixing the issue, they put on a warning that said "lol get fucked"
what an absolute shitshow of a company
Amphetamines would have made them potentially more focused while making it; maybe with some mild psychosis 😅
@@leovaeg I assume they noticed after production, and the cost of redoing all of them would have been too expensive.
"Harder to open than a satin tower" is really saying something
I stood there for a good five minutes watching a TSA agent try to open one once while I was standing there. He looked frustrated.
@@TiltedSquare Did you tell that story in the comments on a previous video too? I remember it, I was just thinking about it as I wrote the comment
@@Rascus75 probably a few years ago. :p A lot of people get pulled aside from TSA if they're carrying deckboxes. "Small, firm, and a little over $10.00" boxes tend to look a little suspicious.
@@TiltedSquare Yeah, that's where I keep all my dr... aft chaff. Yeah.
@@TiltedSquare It's mainly because a stack of Magic cards shows up as an "unidentified black mass" on x-rays, due to their density.
OMG He said "Yu-Gi-Oh!" Senpai finally noticed :) Yeah I know he did the video with Team Aps which is one of my all time favorites I love when TCG players collaborate with each other and discuss the state of collectible Pringl.. I mean cards.
I love Prof’s passion for all things Magic. 36 deck box videos and he still puts as much thought, or more, into each review.

The Deck-Fast by Kakapopo
Everytime professor says "The Boulder" I think of Avatar The Last Airbender (animated series).
THE BOULDER loves the Earth. THE BOULDER has decided to go eco-friendly.
THE BOULDER IS CONFUSED AS TO HOW TO OPEN THIS SATIN TOWER
THE BOULDER WILL USE HIS MANY MUSCLES TO OPEN THE TOWER. HOWEVER, THE BOULDER IS CONFUSED AS TO WHY IT IS CALLED A SATIN TOWER, WHEN IT HAS SMOOTH SHINY SIDES.
The boulder nose how to put the hurt in the dirt!
I am glad its not just me
"It's firm, it's hard, it's a little over ten bucks" was my nickname in college!
Professor, I can't tell you how excited I get when I open up RUclips and see one of your product reviews in my feed. It truly makes my day.
some of the glossy satin towers have problems closing loosely. They did replace mine for free, though
How did you go about requesting a replacement? A couple of mine are completely untrustworthy at this point.
Can they replace 3 of the 5 I own? Ever since I bought them, they've been so loose, that I can turn it upside -down and the lid will go flying off, if there's any cards in it.
@@lockecole3726 I like buying the matte paint ones since they shut the tightest out of all their finishes.
@@hiddenleaf414 Fair, but 2 of the 3 I have that are "faulty" are matte.
@@abouc just a quick email and some pictures
I love your enthusiasm when talking about deck boxes, you're the one online personality that I trust in making informed decisions on how I spend my money on MTG accessories, THANK YOU!
Another video in which I wait anxiously for Prof to shake the boxes wildly, because it's an awesome scene every time lol
Thank you!! One of the biggest things I have learned from all the deck box videos is that there are so many deckboxes!! And that sometimes simple is better!!
I can't believe WotC printed a new, powerful merfolk for Modern and didn't give you the spoiler. Shoot.
Hey prof, just wanted to say when I was brand new to magic your videos help with every aspect of our hobby. I just wanted to say thanks for all the help over the years!
Just FYI, yugioh has introduced double sleeving and so the demand for bigger deckboxes for yugi has increased and often have to resort to boxes for standard
That's hilarious, I remember 6 or so years ago there were tons of players that just forewent sleeves altogether.
@@Frostgiantbutsmall What kind of madmen were you playing with? When I used to play 8-9 years ago anyone in my playgroup would've gotten a heart attack if someone played without sleeves.
maybe the deck fast will fit sleeved Yu-Gi-Oh cards
Absolutely useful. I purchased the bcw Decklocker as my first buy then bought an Ultimate Guard 200 card twin flip. I absolutely love it the only problem I have is that it barely fits in my pirate lab case, I also purchased the Ultimate Guard Flip 'N' Tray mat, I absolutely love it, since it doesn't roll like a play tube.
“Wobbles my mind.” 😂💯
Prof you are God sent! I myself have been watching since your very first video & have purchased many a MTG product due to your rating & demonstration videos. I recently ordered the new Satin cubes and can't wait to get them. Many many thanks to you my good man for all the years you have dedicated to help us and the MTG community.
Hey Professor this was really helpful! I love the glasses by the way. You really rock them!
Prof I'm so glad you made the choice so much easier with this video. Bought a Satin Tower from my LGS last year and couldn't have been happier with it. Other than the fingerprints it feels exactly how it was now than when I bought it. Even to this day it's still tough to open.
Really my only negative experience was when I let a friend borrow some dice and after noticing how tough it was to open the dice tray, he overestimated and the tray instantly popped open, spraying dice everywhere. I'm much more careful with opening now lol
We don't need deckboxes for Yugioh since we just store our decks in our duel disks.
I remember watching the first video about deck boxes when I was little. Played all the time with my friends and we would host house tournaments and get all the kids on the block to play.
Now almost 6 years later I'm watching you again. Bringing back so many memories and emotions. Thanks for being there and never stopping this amazing content
Nobody:
The Professor: _aggressively and angrily praises the Satin Tower and Cuber for being _*_too_*_ good_
I started not too long before the first video with the tower, and that is what prompted me to take better care of my cards and be more mindful of their storage. After that video I went out and grabbed a green tower from my local store, and I have taken it anywhere and everywhere I could play magic. It is still my favorite box today, and holds my most precious commander deck, because I know for a fact it will be ok. So thank you for your advice all of these years, and look forward to many more.
Can't believe a deckbox made me nostalgic... Kinda cute actually!
These aren't just my favorite TCC videos, they're my favorite magic videos period. I love love love listening to the professor's reviews of any kinds of accessories.
There's some interesting materials science stuff going on with the eco-Boulders.
My guess is that the material, while very similar to plastic in many ways, is different in important ways that need to be known when working with it. It looks like there are things that need to learned about how the material works to be able to get products made from it to work more optimally in the future.
I was intrigued on your opinion of the return to earth bolders. I just returned to magic and I used to keep my cards in my bundle (or fat pack) boxes. But figured if i was going to be an adult magic player I should keep proper care of my expensive cardboard. I searched my LGS for no more than 3 minutes before spotting the return to earth bolder packs and they are the only ones i will ever buy. They work great and are better for the planet, and i wanna support that.
Using Boulders as the Inlay for my Flip and Tray :)
I absolutely love these videos. They've helped me out so much through the years. I don't think I've ever bought a product I wasn't happy with, and the reason for that is you Prof! Thank you
The Satin Tower's biggest problem for me was that it was just a bit too tall for my liking. This one looks a lot easier to handle.
I recently got into mtg through arena during the pandemic, and I started building commander decks/collecting cards not too long ago. Thanks to your advise professor I ended getting ultimate guard boulders for my first commander decks, and I have had zero complaints about them. Thanks for introducing me to these honestly great deck boxes.
Oversight of the century, what did they just do testing on unsleeved cards and say, "Yeah that's good enough"
I got started watching TCC for the deck box reviews, and even though I don't currently have a deck in need of a box, I still love seeing these review videos. And the utter gob-smacking Prof occasionally gets from some of the more... creative box ideas out there. Thanks for another useful review video, Prof!
Professor at his best, accessory reviews!
the cubes rock, i encountered the same “hard time opening” thing you did, but i picked them up knowing that they were essentially Towers and knowing that they were probably just great and they haven’t disappointed!
I suggest we should rethink when we call a product "perfect and sleek", because we have created this idea that something with spots or different coloration is not perfect, when in fact in nature the abnormal thing would be the flat and artificial products. I work in a company related to the recycling ability of materials and one important thing that holds the industries against being more environment friendly is the customer perception that a product that has a more natural appearance is "defective" and the artificial one is "perfect".
Edit grammar.
I think it’s just based off preference and knowing your target audience. If return to earth had a clean finish, i’d buy it in a heartbeat, but as it’s presented currently i’m not interested. Aesthetics is a big part of my buying process when it comes to deck boxes
Prof, your reviews over the years have given me a solid answer on where to put my money. Thank you
I love the return to earth box and hope they improve with upcoming boxes.
I have the cream coloured Return to Earth deck box.
I actually like the look of it. It feels more organic than the usual plastic.
Mine does buckle inward, but that hasn't been a problem for moving cards in and out of it.
Being a bit more snug is better, in some ways. Stops cards shifting in transit as much.
Most of my plastic boulders have the same curve to them as the recycled ones.
One of my satin tower boxes has a slight inside curve doesn't really cause any problems though
Now that I have moved into my house and after a little while i am looking to start replacing and expanding my deck boxes. I love the wide range of options that you do reviews for and when you showcase ways to get them when you do not have a local game / card store to shop from.
That list of TCGs is growing lol
I totally agree with the Satin Tower comments. I bought a red one for my goblins' deck, and I'm loving it. Sadly I can't get more because in my country they are extremelly expensive, but I would get more as soon as I can. The Prof's review back then in 2013 made me buy it, and I couldn't be more thankful for that.
I'm almost sure that I can pass down my first ever satin tower to my kids.
Thank you so much for all the content you make, it is very helpful!
Having been a long-time purchaser of the Ultimate Guard Monolith and very satisfied with them for my double sleeved MTG decks (100 dragonshield matte sleeves with ultra pro perfect fit inners), I have been saddened they are no longer obtainable.
I acquired no less than three Ultimate Guard Boulder 100+, however found out too late they do not actually fit 100 double sleeved MTG cards in dragonshield matte sleeves. I am now looking to replace these 3 deck boxes now and think I will be leaving behind Ultimate Guard and trying out the Ultra Pro products.
Thank you for confirming the Ultra Pro Cube sufficiently holds 100 double-sleeved dragonshield matte sleeves, I will be making the switch to these in the future!
The satin cube looks so weird. I'm just so used to seeing it a little taller.
I love the satin tower at FNM. Top is bin for sideboard. Body is bin for tokens and exiled cards. Tray holds counters and dice. Graveyard sits on the playmat. I can put them all in a neat column on one side of my play space. Great organization tool during transport and during play.
I think you meant to say “udder failure” in regards to the kakapopo deck box
Lightly sand the plastic nubs on the satin cube. I had to do it to my satin tower. And it opens easier, but still very secure.
"... a lot of them have gotten A's.". My parents always say that when they compare my school test results with my friends 😂
Tell them this:
"Which child is right for you? Maybe even some of the B or C graded kids meet your needs.
If your need is budget, maybe I have the best bang for your buck, if you're not looking for excelence but you just want a child at a good price."
These videos are the most comprehensive reviews on deck boxes and accessories ever made. Honestly the quality content that has come out over the years with your reviews and the consistency of your testing astounds me.
In short: get an eco-friendly boulder.
Thank you for your deck box reviews, although I have moved away from trading card gaming, I do remember and cherish watching your reviews to purchase that perfect protective case for my Pokémon cards. I remember watching your reviews on the Dex protection boxes and settled on the Large Dex protection Pro box, which to this day still looks as if it were opened yesterday. Keep up the good work and great reviews. Also. The academic looks to be one of those great A rating boxes. Thank you again Sir, and may you continue to see continued support from. The card gaming community.
the dice tray on the towers has been my only grip with them, i moved to boulders for the longest, but when i went back to dragon shield mattes with the sealable inners, i couldnt fit my decks in the boulders anymore. the is something ive talked to folks in my playgroup about wishing ultrapro would do for ~2 years now, super excited to see that its a thing finally :D
I'm a blind Commander player and the satin cube is everything I've wanted in a deck box. I put braille on the sleeves of my cards, which cause them to be a little thicker. I love Boulders, but them being so compact prevents me from fitting all of my cards. Time to replace my satin towers with satin cubes :).
I always use simple Eclipse box for my EDH decks. I don't feel the need to have anything more. It keeps cards and it's cheap. Good enough for me. I do understand why people want to have better and safer boxes though.
What I wanted really to say is... I watch every "box" video purely for Prof. It's amazing how captivating a video about plastic boxes for cardboard can be!
It's funny because I watched all these review videos by the professor; however, many of those cases are not available where I live. So I've been storing my decks in bundle boxes or in a cases from a local brand (that isn't so good or compact as a boulder), and that's it. Still, I love to watch the reviews. Thanks, prof!
I know this video is a little old, but if you are on a budget I HIGHLY recommend dragon shield double shell deck boxes. I have dragon shield matte outers and dragon shield perfect fit sealable sleeves. The double shell holds all 100 double sleeved cards plus around 30 tokens with perfect fit sealable sleeves. The best part is the boxes are 4.79 on their site and have an amazing closing design that practically guarantees the box will not open in transit. They are made from a lighter thinner plastic but I have been using them for a few months with no issues. Also, they come in the five colors of mana, each featuring a different dragon shield logo.
These Reviews helps me very mutch. My deckboxes and sleeves are all recommended by you. I did test others but your Reviews are just on point
That music at the end reminds me of 90's workout commercials with Hal and Joanne.
I’ve been a Boulder fan since I first saw your review on it for a while. My main issue with it now is that I like to double sleeve with dragon shield resealable and there just isn’t enough room anymore. Satin towers are great but for me there’s no need for a dice tray I carry all that in a separate bag(I know, “just take it off then”). This Satin Cube though 👀. Boy Ultimate Guard better have a response.
Thanks for this review/update.
These videos are what originally drew me in to your channel.
I have now watched your hair grow from medium to long to short to medium to long again. Keep up the great work.
I love the boulders and use the trays from the Ultimate Guard towers because they nest in their longboxes. It's really easy to slide 2 long boxes in my backpack and have 8 commander decks (usually it's 7 and then a whole slot for tokens and dice) and still have room for loose deck boxes for my other constructed decks.
I haven’t bought accessories in years, still have some sidewinders and boulders lying around with no regrets, BUT on the subject of Satin Towers, I don’t know if it’s the weather on my country, but I’ve seen at least two towers, less than 2 years old either of them?, owned by friends of mine, that have gotten really, _really,_ sticky and crummy. I managed to clean one they gave with cards to sell and it was horrible, I tried with mineral/white spirit (paint thinner), “goo gone”, hot water, alcohol and a metal sponge/scrub and didn’t get over 60% of the gooey melted cover. I imagine the soft touch plastic finish got busted with the heat and humidity of my tropical country, because after scrubbing hard the top layer, the hard plastic (you can touch it from the inside) was just fine, the inside was just fine as well for reference.
In comparison my boulders have started to peel on the corners and edges, but the soft touch layer is just that, a layer, so it just peels a bit but haven’t gotten crummy at all, so in my opinion, and for everyone also living in hot and humid tropical countries, Boulders are superior to Satin Towers by a LARGE margin.
Kudos Brian for the great work as always!
*please bump this so that Brian can see it, cheers!*
Proff, thanks to your original Boulder video I fell in love with that product. It does exactly what I want it to do and that's all I needed. Now those Ultrapro cubes look great, might give them a try for certain decks... or just if I want box to take my deck to game night and not just as a storage solution.
What I really love about the Boulders is that you have an transparent option. It makes organizing commander decks etc. easy
My toddler got into my stash of EDH decks. Grabbing one he threw it across the room. My heart stopped when I saw that he grabbed my CEDH Kess deck. Dollar signs flashing before my eyes I got up chasing after it. By Odin’s beard I’m glad I had it in a satin tower. Didn’t even dent the box. Cards safe and sound. Thanks professor!
I love these reviews. I found my favorite deckbox, made of steel, thanks to your channel. Great content, and well delivered thoughts on products I might not have seen otherwise.
These reviews are really helpful to me. I used to waste so much money on art sleeves that split constantly until I started getting sleeves based on the Professor's grade.
I love the satin cube and towers. They are the only deck boxes I use for EDH. I mix and match my satin cube tops and bottoms for the various two color decks I have, or keep it the same for mono colored decks. My 3+ color decks are in towers. My favorite deck boxes on the market.
You're channel is awesome. Long may you reign
I love that, thanks to reviews like this one, I get to see a good number of quality choices of products out there.
I bought a Satin Tower to protect my Storm deck, based on one of your older reviews, several years ago and have never looked back. Thank You Professor!!!
I enjoy how the bar for these boxes became "does it close" after the first one
Thank you for reviewing the cube, I requested it about a month ago and knew you would deliver. I already bought one and I can finally fit my double sleeved Najeela deck in a compact box (Dragon Shield Matte outers with Dragon Shield Sealable inners).
You've helped me get several products that fit my needs with your reviews and I've been happy with pretty much all of them. Thank you for always helping us find the products that are right for us!
Your videos have helped me pick the right products for me over the year. Almost ever deck I have is in boulders
so cool to see ultimate guard go that route, love their product allready but this is icing for sure.
also "but it does close" perfect shade throw there.
Thank you for showing what honest reviews look like! It feels good to know that when I recommend people watch your content, that they are in good hands!
My guess with the return to earth boxes curve is using the design as a parting line for the forms. The plastic would be less precise than ABS.
I have two kakapopo deck-fast, one white and one pink, both of them r able to fit in my dtcg deck with standard sleeves + broccoli outer sleeves (without needing to remove the dice slide panel). Personally I like their products, it’s playful and fun, their kaiba style suitcase for deck boxes is my fav.
Another great review! Thank you for sharing your insight with the community for all these years!
I got a Boulder one week at FNM since it was the cheapest deckbox that wasn't a glorified tuckbox. I thought I wanted towers, and magnetic flip boxes, but I found that the Boulder was really suited to my tastes. Didn't realize they had eco-conscious options; that's great.
INTENTS. AND. PURPOSES. I can't tell you how much that made me smile, in gratitude. Thank you.
