      Have you tried the Staples "Better Binder"? With vulcanized rubber hinges, it's far more durable than the crimped vinyl most binders use, and it comes with a lifetime replacement guarantee - if the binder ever breaks, you can just go to Staples and swap it for a new one.

      It appears to be a great product but I have dealt with velcro products in the past. You will eventually need to brush out the velcro since it tends to hold fabric from the connector pads. Other than that small bit of maintenance it IS a good product!

      tastymelon while diversity amongst products is real, the issue is that ultra pro makes the inferior product, it's worse in essentially every way, costs more, deteriorates faster, holds less, etc. the Stanley box was created to hold tools, while yes it is creative of the consumer to use it for something other than tools, ultra pro is most likely the brand that everyone uses because it's made for TCGs, meaning that people end up paying more for less efficient product, ultra pro could easily make a better/just as good product for probably just as cheap, but they don't, because they don't have to, when the economic system is based around money, and not progress, you tend to see stalemates in design and innovation

    Ok, I’ve just gotta say that the Prof came in seriously clutch with this one. I decided to go to my LGS the other evening to play commander, but my commander decks were in very awkward, not-easy-to-move storage containers. I had roughly four hours to somehow figure out how to transport ~12 commander decks easily. Then I remembered the Stanley Container Thingy from this video, and it turned out my father had one in his garage that he wasn’t even using. Without this video, I would’ve probably rocked up to my LGS with an arm full of boxes. Outstanding.

    First off I love you professor you tell it how it is and always have the gamers in heart! Also, I'm a contractor and we have two of the Stanley boxes at the bottom of our toolboxes. We are always throwing things on them and they still work after 3-5 years of HEAVY use. Still never thought of it as being used as a tcg holder. Today, I bought a 3-drawer plastic cabinet from Walmart for $18 and I use it to hold the pirate lab 3 compartment foam. Fits perfectly and has room for extra deck boxes or anything else even play mats.

  • @Vu11can
    @Vu11can 6 лет назад +76

    I've been using the Stanley case for years now and can confirm it's fantastic. Only thing buyers should be wary of is the fact that each compartment isn't completely flat on the bottom. There is a slight indent in the middle of each one that can slightly damage the sides of sleeves when used for long periods of time. I avoided this problem by cutting thin foam pieces to make the bottom flat or by leaving the cards in some sort of simple box (ex Dragon Shield sleeve box). Apart from that I've loved how durable and convenient it's been, would easily recommend.

  • @davisguy09
    @davisguy09 6 лет назад +11

    Thanks for a great video! Having just purchased the Stanley 10-compartment, I have a few observations to add. First off, mine was indeed a 10-compartment item, and contains 8 trays of the size shown in the video, but also 2 double-sized trays. My guess is someone "customized" yours prior to you getting it, but I digress... The double-sized trays are actually great for me, because I like to store my decks in Ultimate Guard 100+ Boulders, but the smaller trays are just slightly too small for them. However, because the double-sized trays don't have to be split down the middle by a strip of plastic, they are the perfect size to hold a pair of the 100+ Boulders. With 2 double-sized trays, this then acts like a budget ArkHive, sans the Xenoskin, microfiber, and magnets. The one structural downside of this compared to the ArkHive is that you do have to tip the boulders out of the trays to get to them, but considering all the additional space for dice, etc and how budget friendly this is, I'm a very happy purchaser.
    I also tinkered around with what else I could fit in it, and it turns out the boxes you get with Fat Pac....er, I mean set Bundles...fit very well two two across (two of them replace a row of five trays with some space between), a UG Flip'n'Tray Mat Case does fit inside (albeit VERY tightly across) but with almost too much room in the the other dimensions, and an ArkHive does not fit as the lid can no longer close (though why you'd actually want to do that, I don't know). That said, being able to add a mat into the mix (I'd love to find a better solution than just shoving my mat box in - if you can think of any please let me know!) makes this basically a budget SuperHive, but at under 1/3 the price. Also, I'd simply point out that this is a GREAT mobile lands station. I'm the unofficial draft coordinator for my friends, and I'm looking forward to this easily helping me carry everything I could possibly need. Thanks for the great suggestion!
    PS - I've been watching your videos for a while now and have taken a lot of great suggestions and ideas from them. Thank you for all the detailed work you do! :)

      They make a slightly bigger version for 40 bucks. It has a compartment in the back for a laptop. I carry two trade binders back there easily. • @finks1
      @finks1 6 лет назад +1

      I have the $40 larger bag and have used it since December 2017 and I love it. In the laptop compartment I keep two standard trade binders. I also keep a 4 binder in the front pocket but wouldn’t recommend doing that as the edges have started to curve. No damage to the cards inside but I’m in the market for another 3x3 trade binder for that pocket.
      I may consider cutting off the waist strap, that’s a great idea as it isn’t necessary for going from my car to the store and other short trips and just gets in the way.

    I use the Milwaukee brand version of the tool box. It has double sized buckets so you can fit satin towers in them. Plus tons of counters accessories and other stuff. I took one row of buckets out and put two tubes with playmats in it with pens paper etc. my son and I play in pods so I can bring that and nothing else is needed. It has 4 commander decks in satin towers, life counters, 2 play mats, bags of dice, bags of glass bead counters, pens paper, and extra space to put smaller card boxes to hold cards from wins or cards for trade. Super durable, and water resistant. Been using it for over a year and I’m hard on it, looks new. Home Depot has them sometimes on sale for 17.00 I got two for the extra buckets so I could customize it more.

      Billable they are also stackable so if you get a couple you can connect them. They only come with two double compartment trays so you need to get 2 of them to hold 4 satin towers. I took the third bottom row out to fit playmat tubes and have 4 long trays to fit 4 towers.

    Professor, I have been a long time subscriber and I just wanted to say thanks for making these videos. I work with a very tight budget, so when I save to buy supplies for my Yu-Gi-Oh cards, then what I buy has to be carefully considered for my needs, the quality of the item, and the price. Your videos have long helped me to decide on these issues. For example, my Dex 4-pocket binder that is reserved for only my most precious of cards that are for my personal collection and not trades or display, is something that I would never have obtained if not for these videos. Additionally, I just placed an order for the Dragon Shield Nest Deck Box, as your videos again helped me to decide on getting a new deck box for my main and more expensive deck. So again, I offer to you my thanks, and look forward to many more videos. :)

    • @Legion8511
      @Legion8511 5 лет назад +12

      I'm pretty sure he picked up the same one you're looking at. When he got it a Home Depot, someone probably opened it up and swapped out the two large from his and replaced it with 4 small from theirs because they wanted more large compartments. I've purchased two of these myself and both came with 2 larger compartments. They fit 3 60 card ultra pro decks sideways perfectly tho.

    • @masterloard
      @masterloard 5 лет назад +2

      @@Legion8511 ^this^
      I'm using mine for my Ravnica Guild Kit battle box, my EDH deck, and my 2 Modern decks, as well as dice and tokens. So, for 60 card decks, having the 2x wide compartments actually allows you to carry more decks, because 60 card decks take up just barely over half of one of the smaller compartments, and the 2x wide compartments also don't have space loss from the compartment walls in between, meaning you can actually fit 3 sleeved guild kits, sleeved and in their box, as well as the spin down dice they came with, in one compartment.

  • @MontviewBlvdBabiez
    @MontviewBlvdBabiez 4 года назад +1

    Stanley case is great especially if you love deck building I take the dividers out and just use ultra pro deck boxes it houses 20x 80 count boxes, not sure how many 100 counts it will house, you can leave some empty for dice and counters or use some dividers, you can also fold a playmat and lay it across the boxes and it will still close perfectly the playmat actually gives it some cushioning, absolutely my favorite and reasonably priced at all home depot's 👍🏽👍🏽

    • @MontviewBlvdBabiez
      @MontviewBlvdBabiez 4 года назад +1

      Also if you don't like the Stanley sticker it will leave sticker gunk if you peel it off, but you can use organic paint thinner and scrub it off with a rag that's what I did anyways it doesn't damage it, but maybe there's other techniques

  • @PinkiePie2

    Hey Professor, I think the Stanley carrying case is suppose to be 10-components. As I looked it up for purchase, every picture showed 8 small cubbies, and 2 larger ones. I think you got super lucky with a manufacture loading mistake. But you could always buy two, swap out the larger ones with 4 smaller ones from another, then return the one with the larger components.

      Just went and bought one myself, and can confirm that Prof probably just got lucky with the all small boxes (looked through all available ones at the store, all had 10 total boxes). Still, some double size ones might be nice for holding things like tokens and dice if you need a lot of them, and they're big enough to hold a Satin Tower if you want to double box your cards for some reason. Alternatively, the case itself is also JUST long enough to hold a playmat in a case if you take out a row of boxes, leaving you with up to 7 slots and a place for your playmat if you don't plan on being rough enough to displace the remaining cubbies.

    I have a portable tool chest/lockbox that I bought from Harbor Freight years ago that has latches you can lock with a small key. I've been using it ever since I destroyed the cloth and foam Ultra Pro bag that is sold at most LGSs. Those only held 10-12 deckboxes and some dice. This one that I bought can hold up to 28 normal sized deckboxes! I was super thrilled with it because I have a ton of decks that I always had to carry around in multiple bags to many different places.
    If you're thinking about getting something to hold your deckboxes, and not just your cards, look into getting a tool lockbox. They are usually modular with some foam cutouts or plastic slats that you can adjust to fit the configuration that you like best. It has been one of the best investments I've made to protecting and securing my cards when transporting them .

    I've just today played my very first mtg tournament and I need to thank you. I've played mtg before, but always way too casually. This time, with the advent of challenger decks, I was able to build a playable deck quickly and it was A experience. I didn't have this much fun playing a game for a long time. Thanks to your tips and insights I was able to learn a lot in little time and perform very well. Thank you, professor. I love what you do here on this channel and especially your vlogs/IRL content (about being an adjunct professor; Q&As with your dad; IRL stories; etc.). Thanks for choosing such a hard path. If you'd like a challenge, I'd ask you to try and make IRL gameplay content that's not only nice, but "pedagogic" to watch, because that's one of the biggest challenges a tcg youtuber may face. If someone can do it, I believe it's you. Thanks for being such a good influence, and, even though I don't think you'll read this, the first day I'm able to, I'll register on patreon and support your work right there and then. The Stanley compartment organiser is a game changer. I've got 4 now! My little tip for the community is, use UG 100+ softshell deck boxes (or equivalent), they fit perfectly in each compartment and provide added protection for more peace of mind. Also the free cardboard deck boxes that come with a lot of precon decks also often work a treat. Hopefully it helps someone. Shout out to the Professor for always looking out for us :)

      Yep. The Prof. is great. He definitely helped me to stay with magic when I became frustrated at various points.

    Love this review of the Stanley. I asked you to do a review of these before and I’m so glad you did. Probably going to pick it next week.
