We dominantly have Dimebag style guitars and wanted the Epiphone for something different.. and the series 10 is a project. Hey trogly. I really dig you show man! I've been playing guitar since I was about ten years old. I had my first Les Paul standard in 1974 and have had it's you in my lifetime. Recently purchased a Les Paul Studio from Guitar Center but after living with it for a couple of weeks it wasn't quite there dude. I use the credit from the studio I returned to buy a new Les Paul Standard. Same story, to get home lived with it for a couple of weeks but it wasn't quite right man so I took it back and purchased a PRS S2 McCarty 594 singlecut. That guitar is a keeper. Gibson has really lost touch with quality control in my opinion and I've heard this from fellow Pickers. There's a special place in my heart for Gibson Les Pauls and maybe someday I will find one that is right. I also have a new Fender Ultra Telecaster, and a fender Pro 2 Strat. Both of those were keepers of the gate man. Anyway one thing that bothers me a bit are guitars that are made in China. I understand some people can't afford American, Canadian or even Mexican guitars. As a senior, a n a American Veteran I just don't get it man, geopolitically that is. If I'm correct I believe companies that operate in China are ultimately controlled by the CCP. Just bothers me a little bit man. Not only that it's hard to buy anything that's not made in China anymore. Anyway that's just my opinion. I'm an old fart pushing 70 but I'm still picking and I'm still grinning brother. Keep on keeping on with your RUclips channel and I wish you many good things to come! Peace
PS I should have proof read my comment. Voice texting leaves a lot to be desired. One line was Goofy after the 74 Les Paul I've had several Les Paul's anyway that's all
I’ve got a Dean ML 79 string through that I really wanted for over a year and then got earlier this year. Broke a hand 2 days after purchasing it but it has been an amazing guitar and definitely helps in my rehabilitation.
Well hello Mr. Trogly glad you finally got a chance to play one of those. I have a few myself. I absolutely love them and I’m happy to say that your guitar skills are slowly and surely getting much better. Glad to see you getting some time in. It’s a pleasure to watch your videos. Really enjoy all the info that you provide one day I will do a trade with you.
So, a music documentary channel I subscribe to did a little vid on the late 80's glam band, "Trixter". Not a fan, however I noticed that in a music video of their's, the guitarist was playing an acoustic "Explorer". It was a "thinline" type body and had the shape of a Gibson headstock, but I couldn't make out the brand. *Anyone have a clue what this guitar was/is?*
If it's the guitar in the "Give it to me good" music video, that's a Kramer/Ferrington EX-1. Not sure if I watched the right documentary, didn't see a Gibson style headstock, tho they are bolt on acoustics so the neck could've been swaped at some point. Hope that helps! Danny Ferrington did some really cool custom builds. Highly reccomend his book. 🙃
I’ve been soldering for over 50 years. I used to desolder computer chips on digital scales before WiFi took over. I used solder wick, a solder sucker and sometimes if the hole wouldn’t open up I use a round wooden toothpick to open those tiny holes on the PC board.
One thing I've always been curious about is how knowledge of the Futura headstock made its way out into the public eye. I know about how it was eventually left on the cutting room floor when the Explorer was ultimately given the Fang / hockey stick headstock. Somehow or other, that petstock shape must have made its way onto public record or info sometime after 1958 for Dean to create the Michael Schenke Signature V with that headstock.
I bought the original version of the ML8 new for $499 and it ended up being a great guitar despite being one of the heaviest guitars ever made... They since discontinued it and came out with a new version, but the original version that I have is now selling for big bucks... Funny how there was such a lack of interest in it when it came out, but people realized how good it really was after it was discontinued...
Around 1980ish, I had a Kayler guitar shaped like that. One day a friend of mine stopped by. We were talking and all of a sudden the guitar just fell off the stand and broke the headstock. I jumped up and pretended I was Paul Stanley, smashing the guitar on the floor. Best show I ever put on, but I always wondered what the downstairs neighbor thought.
I have a made in korea dime-o-flame and man i must say its one of the best playing swiss army knife guitars i have, the dime signature Seymour duncans are VERY versatile
The EMG 81-85 Zakk Wylde are just the normal set of 81-85, they customized just the box around with zakk wylde pics and zakk wylde pick (at least that's what I got when I bought them). From what I know you can just buy the zakk wylde set and there's no 81-85 set since it's basically the same pickup
Yes finally a Dean Dimebag type guitar thank you ... There are Metal Heads that watch your show , not just Metallica or Dave mustaine fans ... would love to see more Dimebags guitars .pleaee
Also glad to hear one of your artifacts came over to where I live in New Zealand’ I might even know who they are if u could tell me’ having been a session player over here for years ✌️
Those speed knobs are definitely a Dimebag Darrell modification style! Whoever originally owned this ML must have been heavily influenced by him. That is freaking cool!!
Most of the Deans I have tried with that huge headstock had neck dive worse than any SG. Part of me wonders if the ML body was created in part to attempt to balance that out? At least compared to their Vs.
Salutations Austin! I tend to think of this body style as a Flying Explorer, since it is essentially a cross between a Flying V and an Explorer. It has an interesting finish, I am not really familiar with that wood, and I am not familiar with other guitars made with it either. It sounds alright, particularly with the overdrive. Thank you for sharing this with us all and posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
I've tried a couple MLs at a local shop. When I play seated, I hold it classically. The shape fit me PERFECTLY... but I can't get over the shape of the headstock. I just can't stand how it looks. I know it's a little petty, but it's a dealbreaker for me.

I have a 2019 Dean USA V (which I guess is now technically a lawsuit era guitar) in the natural mahogany finish, and it's the most resonant guitar I own. It just vibrates nonstop while I play it. I think it's comparable to the mahogany Gibson Custom 58 V spec-wise, though I haven't yet had an opportunity to play one of the mahogany Gibson Vs to compare.
