I’ve wanted one of these for years and king gizz has made the prices on these spike higher than I’d like…still can’t wait to see king gizz this weekend
Imagine if you installed a little midi keyboard in one of the cut-outs and a little drum pad in the other. You could loop drums, bass, keys, and guitar all in one ax. You could do some serious busking.
I'd actually really like if you put both specimens on the bench and took a look a both their parts and specs. I like seeing minute differences between examples.
I really like the Steinberger tuners. I bought a set from StewMac in the early 2000s to put on my 1991 Firebird V. They’re a lot lighter than the banjo tuners and look great on Firebirds. The original ones they were selling fairly widely back then and like the ones on this V, had a circular locking knob on the top with two flats on it that you can use a spanner on to tighten up properly. (Pretty essential on the B and high E). You just need to make sure you keep the right size spanner in your guitar case, but that’s no more onerous than, say, carrying a string winder in your guitar case. The great thing about the Steinbergers is that they are very precise and they stay in tune beautifully. They are much lighter than the banjo tuners on a Firebird, so the guitar balances much better. I like these older ones with the round locking knob much better than the later ones with the t-bars, which I think look rather ugly. Gibson used them on a few different guitars in the 2010s and a lot of people ended up swapping them out for conventional machines, so you can usually find them a couple of used sets on eBay pretty cheap. I paid £60 for a set a couple of years ago for a Firebird build l was doing.
Another interesting guitar like this is a Billy Gibbons Telecaster that has hexagons routed into it. Though, the hexagons don't go all the way through the body.
I don't hate it. That has to be a pretty light guitar. But I'd sure miss the neck pickup. I spend most of my time with the pickup selector in the middle position.
Subjectively, I would choose it to be modified so the hole where the neck pickup goes would be replaced with the return of that pickup and its standard controls. Keep the 2 extra frets, though.
Sounds great!🤘 I believe Joe Perry has one of the Holy Explorers, but his is black. At least I think its one of those, he plays it in the Run DMC video for Walk This Way
It does look similarish in the brief views you get of it, but it isn't one. The Holey Explorer is a 2009 model, so naturally could not have been in that video. What he actually plays is a Guild guitar: namely, the X100 Blade Runner.
It works. it does not look like an afterthought. It sounds great. these PU's are underestimated. They are huge sounding. nothing I have ever tried sounds this huge but has such rich tone full of harmonics and overtones.
Okay, I can * almost * understand having a * single * volume pot on a * single * pickup guitar but why not a concentric pot to control both the volume and the tone on the "Holy V"? Same thing with "Holy Explorer" one concentric pot for each of the pickups. Are there physical limitations in the control cavity to get another pot or two into these guitars?
If you could install a little midi keyboard into one of the cutouts and some drum triggers in the other, you could have a sweet ass set up for a one man band.
Very interesting guitar, I really like V’s (though I don’t own one…. Yet) but I’m kinda “cool but …… I don’t think so” with this one. It did sound really good though. Nice playing Trogly. Thanks for the great vid. Cheers.
My Epiphone Firebird Studio has this stile tuners, one snaped and I thought it broke, the guitar was years without play, but turns out one local luthier fixed it, so it keep the same patina as the others
up there with the reverse neck v,maybe good on the drawing board, but not fully realized, like someones basement project, that takes a long time to except the quirkiness,if ever
Hey Troggly, I found a 1974 Gibson Flying V today. How many were made that year? The guy at the store said it was the only one made that year because it was a special order. He also said it is worth around $250,000. Is there any truth to that claim?
I've totally changed my mind about this guitar. It's like a useable museum art piece. I like the idea of the blacked out cutouts. It sounds great and it's definitely an eye catcher. Overall, I think it's a really great thought out special edition. Good one on ya, Gibson! Trogly, super cool demo choices!
THE SECOND ONE YOU HAD FROM LAST TIME LOOK'S A BIT DARKER LIKE LIGHT MAHOGANY, WHILE, THE FIRST OR NEWEST ONE YOU SHOW, LOOKS A BIT LIKE (TRUMP ORANGE) ? MAYBE IT'S THE LIGHT OR MAYBE I'M RIGHT ?

King Gizzard's vocalist Stu uses one of these live and it sounds great!!
Love king gizz! 🤘🏻
I’ve wanted one of these for years and king gizz has made the prices on these spike higher than I’d like…still can’t wait to see king gizz this weekend
Not to mention their use of the holy explorer and reverse V, King gizz loves the GOTM series
Don't forget the Lizard Wizard
Best band on the planet!
I don't generally like V's, but this one is kinda awesome.
Same they’re kind of uncomfortable but this looks so cool
Imagine if you installed a little midi keyboard in one of the cut-outs and a little drum pad in the other. You could loop drums, bass, keys, and guitar all in one ax. You could do some serious busking.
5:24 my eyes went wide for the inside binding idea. That would be so cool!!!!
Literally the SKS of guitars
Plus points for the Holy diver riffs 🤘🤘
Love it when Trogly hits us with sick 80s metal riffs.
Wow, I am actually super into this one the more you showed it off. Cannot justify the price right now, but I understand it :)
It's kinda cool that the hole at the neck is like those V shaped pickups. Kinda reminiscent
I'd actually really like if you put both specimens on the bench and took a look a both their parts and specs. I like seeing minute differences between examples.
This has to go to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They already own and rock with a Holy Explorer and this one would make a sick pair!!!
Single pickup Flying V, really blew me away with how large it sounds
I really like the Steinberger tuners. I bought a set from StewMac in the early 2000s to put on my 1991 Firebird V. They’re a lot lighter than the banjo tuners and look great on Firebirds. I love those Steinberger tuners too. I overpaid for a set 8 years ago for 120 bucks new in box in the black finish.
Love it! Want one in White! Has a great tone also🤘
Love the holes on the v. Great for putting your lunch in,in case you need a snack, halfway through the third set.
That is a great-sounding guitar. Fantastic.
I liked the Guild Blade Runner better for holey guitars.
Another interesting guitar like this is a Billy Gibbons Telecaster that has hexagons routed into it. Though, the hexagons don't go all the way through the body.
Man I love the Holey V. I'm a traditionalist in one sense yet I love great new ideas
It appears to be based on the Guild Bladerunner where that also has openings. You can see a model that Joe Perry played in 'Walk This Way'.
14:35 I like the way the strings disappear as they cross the headstock cut out! 😂
Wow, that thing sounds so much better than it looks, it sounds amazing!
and I loved your playing on it Trogly
I don't hate it. That has to be a pretty light guitar. But I'd sure miss the neck pickup. I spend most of my time with the pickup selector in the middle position.
Is it neck divey?
It got 24 frets too! Now I want one
What is that riff at 14:49 from? It’s bothering me because I know I’ve heard it.
You don't have a double marker for the 24th fret because the fret is so narrowly spaced.
Change of topic- FYI, Goodwill has a Gibson 1961 SG Special and a 1966 ES-335TD out for bid. You may want to check them out. Crazy…
wow your playing has improved bigtime!
Subjectively, I would choose it to be modified so the hole where the neck pickup goes would be replaced with the return of that pickup and its standard controls. Keep the 2 extra frets, though.
Joe Perry plays a similar Explorer style guitar with holes in it on Run DMC/Aerosmith Walk This Way video.
Sounds great!🤘 I believe Joe Perry has one of the Holy Explorers, but his is black. At least I think its one of those, he plays it in the Run DMC video for Walk This Way

Don't hate on the Holy, Trogly🤨 give it to me if you don't like it!
Surprisingly good! Sounded way better than expected
They kinda missed the opportunity to use the string thru tailpiece here. Would have looked killer on this.
Great sounding axe
Will one of those boomerang pickups fit in the neck hole ?
I put those Steinberger tuners on a PRS I own. Very solid tuners but they’re definitely only appropriate on certain guitars
Check out the Guild Bladerunner from the 80s. Probably where they got the idea. Joe Perry uses them.
Hey! Nice to hear some Dio🤘
Ooh!!! Gimme! I wannit! Please.
those are pretty cool. i even like the explorer
I‘m digging‘ it
Russ Ballard vibe
This is one of those times when Gibson got bold, and did something quite different. it's something that Gibson should do more often.
Will you be getting the 2 V’s crafted into a double neck holy V?
Okay, I can * almost * understand having a * single * volume pot on a * single * pickup guitar but why not a concentric pot to control both the volume and the tone on the "Holy V"? Same thing with "Holy Explorer" one concentric pot for each of the pickups. Are there physical limitations in the control cavity to get another pot or two into these guitars?
gotta put the *** right next to the *bold* word, dawg.😅
That thing sounds awesome!! Love the tone
Now you need to review the Flying V '98 model... the crazy cross between a 58 and a 67 V.
It's not often you start with driven tones... It either sounds fantastic or cleans don't sound great. LOL
If you could install a little midi keyboard into one of the cutouts and some drum triggers in the other, you could have a sweet ass set up for a one man band.
Sounds great, fun guitar
6:20. Even just a couple nice rubber strips added on that piece would've been far better than nothing. I guess a relatively easy fix if you need it :)
Very interesting guitar, I really like V’s (though I don’t own one…. Yet) but I’m kinda “cool but …… I don’t think so” with this one. It did sound really good though. Nice playing Trogly. Thanks for the great vid. Cheers.
Very cool ventilated V
Always good to see Gibson inventing new ways for your guitar to not stay in tune
That sounded fantastic. That was a very good demo
You used to be able to buy those tuners on stewmac around the same time this guitar was made
Single pup axes sound excellent when done well
i remeber seeing this as a kid, and thinking it was the best, kinda wished i got my hands on one
My Epiphone Firebird Studio has this stile tuners, one snaped and I thought it broke, the guitar was years without play, but turns out one local luthier fixed it, so it keep the same patina as the others
I guess im just a Flying V sucker because i love these!
hey trogly, when are you going to look at the Gibson SG Standard Limited 2011 run of five guitars there the coolest
I hate how the vintage V body style usually = way high markup.
24 frets. I luv it
Bought mine after watching quite a few reviews on RUclips, and I love it.I must say the lefties version sounds better too lol
Check out harry segler guitars in Berlin. He made a strat with a similar headstock.
It is Veird , kinda looks like a fold-up chair or a lamp ...yet I appreciate it, Thanks Trogly !
Demo playing has gotten a lot better in the past year! Good job!
Very cool guitar!
That thing sounds fantastic I'd lose the turners not for me otherwise 👍
up there with the reverse neck v,maybe good on the drawing board, but not fully realized, like someones basement project, that takes a long time to except the quirkiness,if ever
sweet
I knew it!! God I love this show!! I knew that you'd done this one!!
Love you bro, keep doing what you're doing. Peace out my brother.
Holy sh.., the one that soldered that pot definately cant solder.
I’d love a Holy Flying V Custom!
I suppose this helped with the weight if nothing else. It's kind of neat.
Very interesting
I saw one of the Explorer shapes once, and the wood in the holes was so rough that you could get slivers.
Sounds good
The body on that V looks like the one on the Flying V90. Wish Gibson would do it again For me the best V ever.
Hey Troggly,
I found a 1974 Gibson Flying V today. How many were made that year? The guy at the store said it was the only one made that year because it was a special order. He also said it is worth around $250,000.

No
@@Trog
Thanks Troggly
I appreciate the fast response.
@@Trog
I wasn’t going to spend that kind of money, nor could I. But I hate being lied to.
Now they could've ramped this up a bit with one of the pickups and bridges from a v2
Its rad! Kinda like mustaines sig.
I just would like a v with a standard shaped headstock, I seen one dude with one, older black dude. Albert king
Man, that would be an interesting one to cast in aluminum. Both body and neck.
That guitar looks Freaking awesome
I have a Holy War distortion pedal....It may be Meant they are too be used together.. lols 😎
That thing has a lot chunkier sound than I was expecting with that single bridge pickup.
It definitely chibs. 👍
Sounded surprisingly awesome….
Holy guitar Batman!? Why would anyone cut holes in their guitar?
😂😂😂 🎸 🦇🦇🦇 🎸
THE SECOND ONE YOU HAD FROM LAST TIME LOOK'S A BIT DARKER LIKE LIGHT MAHOGANY,
WHILE, THE FIRST OR NEWEST ONE YOU SHOW, LOOKS A BIT LIKE (TRUMP ORANGE) ?
MAYBE IT'S THE LIGHT OR MAYBE I'M RIGHT ?
I want one
Pretty cool guitar. I think it sounds really good and looks like you had a blast playing it!
This thing sounds great,,!! Wish I could!! Thanks for bringing it out for us!
Wallmart
✌️✌️
the top cutout in the body is in the shape of a 70s v
Have to be careful with that headstock. Looks like a break waiting to happen.
