That weird warranty card seems to belong to a refrigerator. Gibson Appliance dates back to the 1870s and was part of White Consolidated Industries from 1967-1986. Still in business but branded as Frigidaire.
I believe your right on that warranty card. They probably filed it away alphabetically and later thought it belonged together. I'll bet they had a Gibson which was to Frigidaire as roper is to its counterpart we had Gibson appliances and that looked pretty much like the warranty we had.
@@clarkbabin9799 I was able to google the model number from the warranty card and came up with refrigerator parts. Gibson Appliance has a Wikipedia page.
@@TylerJohnstonGuitar I couldn't bring myself to do that. Well, maybe a Google guitar would be good for a song like Electric Eye talking about spying on citizens lol
@@Mephilis78 I can’t afford to buy anything new so I don’t have to worry about my money going to any corporations or anything like that. I just buy off people who are a little less broke than I 😂
Well, I know you have some weird taste, however IMO I could never. I would've kept that orange studio myself that was sweet. I guess the whole museum thing, yet I could never.
This used to be an 'Alta Vista' Explorer but then 'Yahoo' had it painted over. (Obscure internet history joke.) Congrats on your Ultimate Final Trade Tuesday acquisition! Pencil lead in the nut slots solves binding issues, in a pinch 😉
Honestly 2800 is a great price for this. If I knew it was on reverb I'd happily pay that. I thought it was the one with a million signatures on it. But if its this clean this was a sick buy!
I don’t think that’s a true custom shop explorer. It’s got the normal USA line explorer body dimensions, the strap button is in the wrong spot, the the original inlay is showing through the pain. I suspect this is just a regular USA explorer that was painted by the custom shop and labeled as a custom shop guitar. As far as I know, all Gibson custom shop explorers use the 58 explorer body dimensions, which are less pointy/more rounded than a 1990-present USA line explorer.
You're right, the Explorer is cooler than the LP. I really like it and it will be a great addition to your museum when you get it going. Congrats on a great buy!
I’ve always wondered why Gibson chose the term “Truss rod”, going back to the year dot the English cricket establishment used the word ‘truss’ for the piece of equipment that was worn to protect the batsman’s ‘McNuggets.’
I unironically like this guitar. I have a soft spot for explorers and seeing it in any other colour than classic black-white-red-natural colour makes me smile. Also, the knobs and switch are in the aame place as my explorer b-2, so I kinda love it even more😃
I remember buying a Yahoo magazine once in the '90s because it told you about cool things to check out online in the middle of the night when the AOL numbers weren't all busy. lol
Where are you measuring the scale length from? Your tape measure shows 24 3/4” at the 12th fret, but the scale is the length of the high E string from the nut to the saddle. I don’t understand how you’re measuring it, can you explain?
The best way to measure a guitar's scale length is by measuring it to the middle of the 12th fret and doubling it. I use a special tape measure with regular inches on top and "doubled" measurements on bottom - called a Center Point Tape Measure. The guitar is an imperfect instrument so taking the reading by the saddles isn't always most accurate depending on your set up
Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t notice that. I just paused on that part of the video and checked out that tape measure, had no idea that was a thing. Thanks for the explanation.
This is one guitar that I have always wanted to see more info on. The fact that you nabbed it and have a video on it warms my soul. I would love to add this to my explorer collection. I also absolutely love weird branded guitars and merch in general
It is hideous!!!! I cannot stop seeing it. It is horribly hypnotic. I will have nightmares today, having your Yahooooo! cry as background music. What a really great buy. Congratulations Trogly, this trade Tuesday is a success.
Black Switch tip would be cooler. Match the knobs at least. Cool paint job without the decal. Maybe Gibson could do a Candy Cane Christmas inspired custom shop with white, red and green.
I've actually noticed the yellow being off in other demos as well, for instance on the Gibson logo on guitars with very yellowed lacquer. Guess it's due to the green screen somehow.
Hey, if I had $2,800 I wanted to burn on a guitar that harkened back to my late teen years and was just about as gaudy as David Bowie during the Ziggy Stardust era, I would bid on it when you put it back on the market. Whoever does wind up taking it probably has exactly the same interest that you did. Thanks for making it easier for them to get their hands on it when you're through with it, Trogly.
When you said finger board cheese i got an internal reaction that where im from is ca)ed the fresons( freezahns) . Its some were between the chills and gag reflex. Sometimes you absolutely surprise me. Which is the case with what you opened up the playing part of the demo with. Then you went to dustortion with none other than Black Sabbath. Im curious what your going to do with that other case.
Wow I never heard of Trade Tuesday!!! I'd love to trade some of my gear. Got too many "similar" guitars. A Gretch, a Charvel and a Schecter H.H. setup, a modified Washburn, a Unbranded knockoff Ibanez Jem 7 multi LED Light Acrylic body with the fret markers being LED's as well with the H.S.H. A Fender Stratacoustic and Washburn (both are acoustic/electric) with nice hard cases. Even an older one that has a built in amp. Too many H.H. or H.S.H. pickup layout. No trip singles, P90 or Soap Bar pickups, no rails or sustainer and no Mini Humbuckers or "Fat Single" pickups. I do have a high potential Luthier project guitar. Its an older 1969 diasonic hollow body with Its original bigger wider single pickups. They work but need an original whammy bar and spring, an original Wooden and metal bridge with The height adjustment screwing discs. And It probably wouldn't hurt to get another original wire harness as they are the cloth covered wire harness. Gear wise I got a Fender Mustang V v2 with the Fender V2 4-12 cabinet and both the 4 & 2 button pedal, got a Marshall Code 50 with the code 50 pedal & I got a Line 6 Spiderjam with the FLV floorboard pedal.
I’ve mentioned it in the past, but I remember how people couldn’t give away most of these specific company made Gibsons. Players didn’t want t9 play them and viewed them as novelty junk. I heard a player once say they couldn’t pay him to play one. I passed up a few because they were being sold for $500-ish and I was only willing to pay $250-ish. I was young and dumb. They days if someone offered me one at a good price, then I wouldn’t pass it up and rock the hell out of it. I only care about it how it sounds and plays.
Damn you Trogly 😀 I was going to sell my Gibson Explorer. But this video and your enthusiasm made me change my mind. I think I'll keep my 2007 Guitar of the week #36 Explorer... unless you want it.
Nice to see you get excited about a guitar that's not that valuable/ desirable! With as many nice guitars that go thru your hands it would be easy to become jaded.
That's weird when you switched to the camera. that you use during the playing demo. the "Do You Yahoo" logo turned from yellow to orange. you must have way different lighting in that area. use different filters on that camera.
Congrats on the Grape. I love Gibsons. I love SGs. I love Explorers and after I pay off the Iommi SG will be getting a Gibson Explorer to go with my Epi Korina Explorer. I go to the SoCal guitar shows..seen 'em all and am a sucker for promos but I consider myself LUCKY this Yahoo thing does nothing for me because it just as easily could've. Take the branding off that and the finish by itself would be so sick, looks like the cheshire cat
13:10 - the switch tip is amber because all Custom Shop made guitars receive the amber switch tips instead of the USA-issued cream and black.

Hey Trogly - how did you get the yellow HAHOO decal to match the orange toggle switch tip for the playing demo? Neat trick.
