Most bands have a lead guitarist with a rhythm guitarist. Stanley Clarke is a lead bassist with a rhythm bassist. 😂❤️

STANLEY CLARKE, YOU ARE "73-YEARS-OLD" NOW ! SO, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FRIEND ! !
I listen to School Days over and over again when first released. Stanley does more with four strings than most guitarists can do with six.
That's the old Alembic tenor bass he used to play back in the day, right? He has done a lot of soundtrack work over the years (makes sense as he is a great musician) but I love it when he rips it on the bass. Being primarily a heavy metal bass player myself I wish more bands would consider multi bass players, or at least multi-track it more in the studio. Great stuff! Jazz influenced players always have the best left hand staccato.
Amen to that...tone, strength and quality punkin'... LOLOLOLOL
Stay safe, well and warm.
MY❤2U&URS. 😌🙃😁
Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pistorius, yeah that's pretty much the pinnacle when the bass is concerned!!!👍👌😷
@@mauricedavis8261 yep
Check him out on Upright
The bass player, "I play bass for a bass player".
Who will bass the bass men?
If you think about it there's no bigger compliment than getting that gig.
😂🤣
I believe it’s what’s meant by a ‘double-bass’.
😂
CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STANLEY CLARKE ! 😃😃😃😃
On the seventh day God created the bass guitar....gave it to Stanley Clarke and it was more than good...God said "he is so amazingly stunning that has blown Jesus off his cloud!!"- Amen
Imagine being asked to play bass for Stanley Clarke. At first you'd laugh than you'd cry because you'd realize what an honor it is.
SC is one of the best.
Since RTF...Duel of the Titans 😎👍
I saw him do this in club once where he was walking up to people's tables while soloing on this song. I'll never forget that magical night.
HAPPY 73RD BIRTHDAY, STANLEY CLARKE ! !
Great drummer Mr. Gerry Brown!
Thank you, was hoping someone would save me a Google search!

That's the awesomest drum set solo I've ever witnessed.
I only had two suitcases when I arrived in California in 1980, and one of them was full of vinyl - including Schooldays. I played this album to some local stoner kids from Martinez, who were used to listening to things like Journey, Pink Floyd and Rush etc. and they were totally blown away. Headhunters, Black Market, Spectrum and Schooldays - those were (are) my top four fusion recordings.
Hey !! God Bless u !! Thank you FLINT MI
Came for the Clarke bass stayed for the Brown drums 😍 🥁 ❤
Mr. Stanley Clarke one of the Greatest Bass players ever.
Nobody better that I've ever heard... and I mean it's not even close. Even the greatest rock bassists worship at his feet.
THE BEST EVER!
Yes thank you !! From FLINT MI
Speaking with the bass drum ... drummer's solo was incredible ... oldskool and amazing.
Speaking of School Days, this song got me through high school, EHS '76
THANK YOU
Clarke takes his time building up the atmosphere, And what a drum solo. RESPECT.
Omlord !!!! Lol yes happy face !! As I'm jammin with this happy memories 80s !! Thank you FLINT MI
Gracefulness.
Thank you most of all for that, SC.
Was a college white kid way back then.
Only Newport trip my north of Boston butt got to was a Spyro Gyra weekend.
Paled.
This take, even live n all, is time capsule worthy.
Blesses and Thank you so much.
Kept ear to every and all supremacist vibes as the Beatles rose.
Studied Earl Klugh for a spell.
All I can really say is how blown away I was by a taping of a live show.
My brain is too geared to pick up on minor errors.
Damn you, Stanely Clarke.
That fiddle player! Every musician on this stage is worthy of remembering!
His music sustained me in my 20's like Jeff Beck, Bob Marley, and Roy McPherson. God bless him for giving this.
Stanley's bass has to be the most beautiful bass ever, love the red wood and cream accents, and it sounds pretty good too!
Ya, I got to see Stanley Clarke play solo bass, just himself and an electric bass and a stool to sit on, at a small pub on the campus of UC San Diego, back in the 1990's. They had a local fusion group that opened for him who apparently had no idea who he was, or so it seemed. Anyway, Stanley Clarke played that bass by himself to a crowd of 50-100 people for 2 hours, and then brought the opening group back on stage and played their music with them for another 1/2 hour or so. It was extremely impressive and just demonstrated what a great musician he is.
Brings back so many memories from the mid to late 70s.
i HAD ALL HIS ALBUMS, TIMELESS JAZZ
Brilliant and what a Drum Solo outstanding i love ❤️ this song ❤
This tune is so well known , I love how the intro is a homage to it. He knows we all understand every contrasting move.
There’s an RTF song where he previewed the hook. Can’t remember which song.
I wore this album out in 76 I played it so much
When Stanley and violin player started to play solo in unison it just blew my mind
This is gold with Gerry Brown doing a drum solo !!!!! His drum tone is amazing.
You could say he almost stole the show. It just got more and more mesmerizing.
@@FogTub AGREED !!! He's always been a favorite.
Thank you for saving a Google search for his name.
YES IT TRULY IS
YES THANK YOU U TUBE FOR THIS !!
The Drummer was DYNAMITE 💣 💯🤘🏿🌹👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, STANLEY CLARKE ! !
I'm a all time fan of Stanley and spent several years trying to copy his material as many of us did in those days . But a funny thing happen in Philly ! I was at a home with many other musicians sitting next to this guy without ever ask his name only find out later i have been sitting next to Stanley ...
Lemme get this straight - you spent years imitating Stanley....yet you didn't even recognize him when you were sitting right next to him?
Stanley is a rather unique looking fellow...easily recognizable. I know this for a fact...which is why I find your story.......puzzling.
Maybe his theta waves were discombulated...or he was time traveling (out to lunch) on Xenu.
Don't you just love those moments. One of my good friends is a world class bass player. One day he told me was feeling his practicing getting a bit stale. So he contacts (his friend) Stanley to show him a few things. You know you're at a different level when you call up Stanley Clarke and he gives you pointers on bass.
Saw him walking on S. Broad St. back in the day. No mistaken it was him. I talked to him almost 10 yrs ago at the Toronto Jazz fest after a great performance.
@@Bix12 because it never happened people make shit up in the comments all the time
its strange but it happens. I was seated in the front row at hudson river park NY around 2001 watching this great bassist with his band. I had no idea I was sitting next to the great Chick Correia until Stanley called him out. Although it's hard not to recognize the tallest bassist in music
This performance reminds me of a Victor Wooten quote:
"I have to become my best so that the next generation can become better."
Thanks for helping us get better through your inspiration. 🙏
Excellent team of accomplished musicians - they all truly shine and scintillate. Special thanks for an impressive work of the drummer!
Gerry Brown
I LOVE THIS SOOO BADD !@ LOL I THANK YOU STANLEY CLARK AND BAND DRUMMER FOR PUTTING HUGE SMILE ON MY FACE AGAIN!! THANK YOU FLINT MI
Damn the DRUMMER !!! AMAZING !!!
Great to Stanley & Gerry together, again.
1977 Kent State University Auditorium I was there. He was there!!! That's when I first met Stanley Clarke
I heard this song on WRVR, New York and HAD to have it!!.. I was 18 and just coming into my chops as a guitarist, and besides Larry Graham and MAYBE Jaco, I had never heard a bass player kick many guitarists ass.. Mr. Clarke will ALWAYS have MAD respect from me!!..
Stanley Clarke, I tip my hat to U
I was there live in one of the front rows I was a young 22 then and snuck into the festival and had never heard of Clarke then. I remember it was raining hard and he was the last set and as I listened I was amazed and worked my way down to the front. This video brings back good memories of that day thanks for posting!
He is the man!
Ha! Were you one of the guys clapping along to the music?
Worked my way down to the front...sounds like a packed club, not a few devoted fans in a sodden field. The music is devine though.
There are no rows. Tell us some more stories grandpa.
This performance was 5 stars! Shout out to Nick Smith on the keys from my hometown Cleveland!
What a great show that must have been, so peaceful outdoor setting. I'm sure Stanley and his band loved the welcome and played great.
I never thought This could happen to me... was brought over to a house in Ny, by a mutual friend... my friend played guitar and wanted me to see this guitar player friend of his, as soon as we get there they start jamming, after an hour of incredible music, my friend turns to me and say ‘s do you know I am jamming with Stanley Clarke’s guitar player right here! This guitar player says to me “so I hear you play bass?”... I actually denied I played Bass... no way am I following Stanley!
What a very very step back move you said !! What a honor!! For u ?? Lol thank u for sharing Fl8nt Mi.
@@maureent6800 you had to be there…they were playing in the dark, I was just starting out…it’s like if Mozart asked you to play a song you just wrote and you started playing a week
Ago…get it AH!
The Drummer is wicked!!!👹
What a beautifully made bass, Alembic! Gotta love the Music Man bass too, perfect pair!
A gorgeous instrument
the groove master of all time,mr stanley clarke
In the mid 70s this dude blew my mind. Opening an idea and doing it with aplomb and grace. Long live the king.
came for the bass, stayed for the drum solo
shukk who is the drummer?
@@airfiero4772 Gerry Brown, no?
@@ancelin9079 Yes, is Gerry
@@superchileno Awesome player .. bit too much stick twiddling though, he don't need those tricks
Missed the trick? Gerry browne ,apart from being a boss drummer, is an entertainer. Isn't that the reason why you forked out your big bucks?
What a sound. Makes life good.
Dynamics.... a master of the art.
❤STANLEY CLARKE RULES ! ❤
THAT FREAKIN DRUM SOLO BOY
He is such a cool guy, and that album is a classic , superb
Tinha 15 anos nessa época, hoje tenho 35 se eu tivesse conhecido esse instrumento maravilhoso antes hoje tava bom
STANLEY CLARKE, YOU ARE SO "73-YEARS-OLD" NOW ! !
what an Awesome performance.
good to see a great young violinist
M a bass player...stanley ALWAYS has my heart
Beautiful music by beautiful people. Thank you for the hard work in becoming great (I doubt that this was easy).
We had Stanley Clarke on cassette and basically nonstop listening
Stanley is amazing! Peace from Detroit MI
The bass solo on Schooldays blew my speaker cones😊
The Master of the bass guitar!!
They tore it up! That drummer though...holy shit..😳
He and Reds sons...Patrick and James ...best of the jazz in the Old Market. This family played their hearts out. No joke.
Outstanding!
really all memories of early 80ies. What a time of youth, future and all the things we wanted to change.
Thanks to Mr. Clarke for the great music going with it.
What do you think of the changes that have taken place?
That drummer is top of top of the top
Remember the night I found home to Stanley Clarke's playing style on my semi-black H.S Anderson-bass 1978 . Thanks Stanley
Omg lol me n my BROTHER CHRIS!! OUT IN CA. I LOBE YOU BRO !! LOVE OUR STANLEY CLARK!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gerry Brown...Awesome. One of my favorites
My fave version of this great so far, besides the recording of course.
Just super good all the way
Wow lol on thisnightFEB 23 ,2024 FLINT MI. MISSING !! AND JAMMIN IN SPIRIT WITH MY BROTHER N HEART CHRIS !!VALLEJO CA. N MI.. USA 🇺🇸 ❤❤❤❤😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉THANK YOU ALL
That's some mighty fine drumming... kudos
he can stroke that bass, that brother can play, pound for pound, Stanley Clarke is the best bass player....
Hmmmmmm....that's a subject for debate.
Will Lee comes to mind, as does Carol Kaye, Jack Bruce, Tony Levin, Charles Mingus, Ron Carter, Marcus Miller, of course James Jameson (who wrote the book on electric bass)...but mostly the one and only Jaco, who was a phenom unto himself.
Don't misunderstand, Stanley is a monster....right up there, but I'm not sure about the best ever.
hands down a true funkmaster alex, well said
@@Bix12 Did you ever see stanley ?
@@JustforFun-ki6fk Gosh yes....5 times, I'm pretty sure. I've seen him with RTF twice, with George Duke once, with Jeff Beck, and with Flora & Airto....an amazing bassist.
@@Bix12 Stanley is incredible and so is flora
After watching this it should be self evident why Mr. Clarke kicks ass.
As journeyman students of the instrument, we hope to pick up tricks from someone like Stanley of course. An astonishing player
Great music by very talented people.
The Master! Dr Clarke is an artistic innovator who may not arise again.
So Glad I found this!!
Where ever y may be ??? OMG is right GOD BLESS U ALLWAYS ALL FORGIVEN
Makes me think of my GOOD TIMES IN MY PAST ! JESS !! YOU WERE A BADD ASS M F BASE PLAYER N STILL ARE !! XOXO THANK U MAUREEN❤❤
Stanley Clarke has open all doors for BBass technique for me
quite amazing
Feel so fortunate for growing up in an era that witnessed this while it was happening. Sorry kiddos, but that is why my generation is so totally awesome.
Love the bass player’s laughter at the drum-stick in the teeth antics.
Stanley Clarke and George Duke were awesome together.
This here THIS HERE IS EPIC!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Notice when Stanley plays lyrically, he uses his right hand ring finger to pluck. Then he starts burning, he'll use index & middle & sometimes all 3 when he does his "Sheets Of Sound". I know he has a new RUclips channel. I wish he'd put an instructional video out.
you are the Doctor J of bass playing. Love both.
It does look like he can Palm two basketballs at one time.
Loves Me Some Stanley Clarke!
Stanley's hands were made for bass. Wrap his fingers around the neck twice. Amazing. He'll have a four fret stretch with his thumb over the top and it's not even a thing for him. He just does it.
for real, I'd never seen Stanley Clarke before this video and I noticed that right off the bat. Gotta say as a (pretty mediocre, admittedly) bassist myself I'm extremely jealous.
Monstruoso esse baterista!!! Amazing!!!
Still One of the Best
Great drummmer !!!
That's beautiful.
If I met Stanley Clarke now we probably would have still remember me like I said too cool for school
Mon chouchou ❤️ il est juste exceptionnel ce monsieur 🔥🔥🔥🔥💪😘👍
