    I own both and picked A immediately as the Apple log footage, mainly due to the slightly yellower hue and lifted shadows and then noticed the highlights on the table. But maaaaan it's close as can be. I've started using my 15 Pro on an Osmo mobile 6 for real estate work - a 13mm/24mm/70mm with no real need for shallow depth of field is the perfect application for this camera. It really shines and I prefer it to the P4K and my Z6ii for RE work. It's also a fraction of the weight
    This is easily the biggest leap ever in smartphone camera improvements imo. Super excited for the creative opportunities being able to be ready & rolling with this quality within 5 seconds at almost any time

    I don't know if you've tried it, but another creator suggested under exposing Apple Log by 1 or 2 stops since the iPhone tends to over expose. I found doing this helped improve my Apple Log shots quite noticeably. I was also very impressed when I raised the shadows in post with Apple Log, to compensate for the under exposure, that the highlights had better detail and the shadows and footage was surprisingly clean. The level of noise in Apple Log is quite low from what I would expect out of a smartphone camera.

      @melgross 11 месяцев назад +2

      That’s correct. At the lowest ISO we only get 10.5 stops of dynamic range. But at higher ISOs we can get as much as 14 stops, which is actually a lot.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  11 месяцев назад +1

      I personally wouldn’t go that extreme, however, when using the native camera app I’ll adjust the exposure compensation to -.03 or -.07 sometimes and that definitely helps. In this scene I had the ISO as low as it would go, and the only way to lower the exposure more in camera was to change the shutter, which I didn’t want to do to match the Blackmagic (they were both on 180° shutter). But yes, I do find the iPhone does tend to slightly overexpose regardless of what codec you’re shooting in.

    I love this video, all for the fact that even though the iPhone 15 Pro Max is great camera wise. I was debating on either this or buy the BMPCC4K. But man, the table was the last place I would ever try to look. This makes me believe that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could be the modern age answer to Super 8/Super 16 cameras for filmmakers today!

    • @iphoneographers

      Absolutely. It’s really great now and useable in pretty much any scenario. But the pocket 4K is still in my opinion the best bang for the buck cinema camera you can get. Yeah it’s several years old now, but they keep updating the firmware and it’s a very affordable price with amazing image quality.

      Sir I've one more curious question🙋:

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  11 месяцев назад

      The quality would be the same assuming you shoot in ProRes. The biggest difference is using Apple Log the sharpening and tone mapping are turned way down (almost off) and then of course you have to color correct the log.

  • @xaxo212
    @xaxo212 11 месяцев назад

    Hello! I have a question regarding tone mapping on iPhone 15 Pro Max. It has been very noticeable since iPhone 6, and I consider switching from my 14 Pro Max to shoot short films without that annoying "feature." Is it really toned down on 15PM? Worth the upgrade from 14PM?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  11 месяцев назад

      It’s now basically gone when using Apple Log on the 15 Pro/Max. Evidently there is technically still some processing going on, but it’s very minimal (I can’t see it) and you no longer see any exposure shifts. So it’s a big upgrade in that respect.

    Thank's for making this comparative video, but i respectfully disagree, i spotted the Apple footage immediately, the mid tones are way too magenta, was easier to spot since i now know of this colour hue shift on the iPhone 15 i admit, but it remains a deal breaker for me, not going to get as a video camera. But hey it's very very personal at this point and to each it's own.

      @@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN I can understand that completely sir, i am currently using the 27'' Mac Studio Display, which i find absolutely fantastic and renders (as far as i can tell) the colours quite accurately, but evaluating colours is always subjective that's a given. @@raymondmenard5444 I'm sure, your monitor for colours over my 43" Panasonic TV being used as a monitor would be more revealing Raymond. I've considered getting a Black Magic camera myself a couple of times tbh and I'm also quite reluctant to invest too quickly on a new iPhone 15 Pro max. I'll continue to watch and learn more before I make a decision. Thank you for commenting about the magenta in the iPhone footage. • @sherbournesubwaymess
    @sherbournesubwaymess 10 месяцев назад

    This is a pointless comparison and really annoying when reviewers do the 'blind test'.
    Nobody is going to buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max because of it's video quality: They are buying it for the PORTABILITY/EASE OF USE.
    The original "Blackmagic Pocket Cinema" COULD fit in your pocket. The 4K one? Good luck finding a pocket big enough to hold that camera.
    The BMPCC has so many annoying design flaws, you really have to RIG it out to this 'animal in a cage' routine. Good luck putting that in your pocket.
    People will accept the inferior quality of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. YES, it would be great if Apple simply released a Sony VG style camcorder where you get all day battery life, amazing ergonomics and SDXC card slots. However that's not going to sell more phones.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  10 месяцев назад

      Pointless…. That’s why you spent five paragraphs complaining? 😂
      No one buys a phone to use as a camera only. You buy a phone because it’s a… Phone. It just so happens to now shoot great video quality - and that’s the point. You can use the 15 Pro/Max in a variety of professional situations, including as a B camera to higher-end cameras. Or of course, as an A camera on its own for a ton of stuff.
      And you definitely don’t need a cage for the BMPCC as shown in this video, although you can, and I do sometimes. But it’s not like a RED where you almost have to have a cage. But yeah, it’s definitely not a “pocket camera“. I have the OG pocket and with a small lens that will fit in your cool cargo shorts pockets.
