    SNK is like Alex Ross paintings, realistic depictions of characters. They look amazing. Capcom is sketchier but also more expressive.

      Kinu Nishimura and Daigo Ikeno styles are more loose and gestural. Shinkiro is very "graphic artist"-y, where everything is rendered a little too perfectly and looks more like a statue than a person

      @@Joshua-hg8ru I honestly prefer the more "sketchy"/gritty drawings since they make the characters look like they fight people on a regular basis while SNK is like super-models with make-up. Also, I think Capcom's drawings are more expressive like the original comment said. In addition, when you look at the Capcom drawings you can understand the personality of the characters by their body language (such as pose and facial expression), while when I look at SNK I mostly see the same heroic sunshine-and-rainbows over and over again

      CVS games sucked. They did the SNK characters no justice. There were tons of flaws in game play from over complicated engine with Levels and Grooves, which were only included because Capcom saw that their characters were out classed compared to SNK's. They didn't need all that crap.
      If Capcom wanted to make it good they would have no Levels and only 4 Grooves (SFA, SF3, KOF94-96, KOF96-2K). Capcom side would be about countering attacks while SNK would be about evading attacks.
      Also the SNK roster sucked. A lot of the more interesting characters were left out. There was no; Andy Bogard (who would make sense to use since he doesn't fight like Terry), Clark (who wouldn't be the stereotypical slow grappler), Leona (a fast paced charge style character), or Kasumi Todo (a counter character) to name a few. Instead we got lame asses like; Raiden and Kasumi's jobber father.

      CvS1’s Capcom art was done by two different people. And the Capcom artist who did the SNK ones went on do both the Capcom and SNK side for their illustrations, while Shinkiro did his own Capcom and SNK art for CvS2. Which by that time was a BIG improvement from what he did in CvS1. He was still and probably never will be Bengus or Akiman when it comes to expressive gestures in the poses, but compared to his SNK work there was tremendous growth there.

    • @Joshua-hg8ru
      @Joshua-hg8ru 6 лет назад +1

      Ralph Pollard When you say never will, its really weird. Like its some goal he must pass to become a legitimate illustrator. The way he does gestures is what makes him Shinkiro. Just saying, that bit you said there was weird.

    • @Darknight0681
      @Darknight0681 6 лет назад +2

      Joshua&! Dude, he’d be critiqued in academia like nobody’s business for most of what he did. His rendering was fantastic but until he left SNK, that was most of all he had. His CvS1 stuff with the Capcom cast was the worst I’ve ever seen them drawn. Street Fighters don’t model for a shoot, they Battle and fight and none of that was conveyed with the CvS1 art. Now the CvS2 stuff and on was much better and had more life to it.
      No artist worth their salt is going to stay in one place with their work all their career. There’s always room to improve and expand, and those opportunities should always be taken.

    • @Joshua-hg8ru
      @Joshua-hg8ru 6 лет назад +2

      Ralph Pollard I get you, and I totally agree. Though I do wish sometimes for illustrators not to stray far from their roots, they've gotta expand and work somewhere new. Totally clears up what you said earlier. Before it sounded like you wanted him to mimic Bengus's/Akiman's style.

    • @ArmaBiologica35
      @ArmaBiologica35 6 лет назад +33

      Laser Sauce I always liked SNK's art style much better both in their sprites and their concept art.
      But in some of these you can see the artists from Capcom went for more dinamic poses or extra details in the clothes and musculature of the characters.
      SNK artists are more consistent too, you can see how some characters from the Capcom side of the video have more realistic features while others still have more cartoony features, while on the SNK side the artists adapted those characters with cartoony features to better fit with the more realistic looking characters.

    I LOOOOVE the song you set this video to. As for the comparison, Capcom's art looks like raw concepts, where SNK's art looks like Actors in costume. It's not a bad thing on SNK's end either. They humanized some freaky looking designs, like Dhalsim or Balrog (the boxer). Some characters don't look as menacing as the Capcom design, Geese Howard for example, but they still look good. Then thete are the times here SNK's design is better than Capcom's, like Sakura or E. Honda. Still, it's good stuff. Thanks!

    People seem to like the more realistic look of SNK but the characters are stiff and much less expressive than the capcom art and don't allow for the type of suspension of disbelief necessary to characters who can throw fireballs and tornadoes from their hands. I think it's ironic that the SNK gameplay is also more stiff than Capcom fighting game gameplay which is much more fluid and dynamic.

SHinkiro’s art was cool the first couple times I saw it but the lack of development and change made him stale up until CvS2. I will give Shinkiro his due though, because he has gotten much better over the years mainly due to the Capcom influence.

      Kwok Man considering that time period, I wouldn’t be surprised if SNK made him do all his illustrations that way to separate their stuff from the more lively and gestural Capcom artists. That’s why when he got hired on by Capcom his stuff changed and improved almost immediately after CvS1. His CvS2 stuff was much better and it looked like he was able to loosen up and spread his wings out some more.

Second part of my original comment I'm disagree with the way you used the word illustration original comment. "SNK's art is painterly. Capcom's art are illustrations." This implies that Capcom's art are illustrations, but SNK's isn't. Given the definition of illustration after google searching it, SNK's art are illustrations too.

    It seemed like there were two different artists' illustrations being shown on the Capcom side, until I did some googling and found that they're all done by the same person: Kinu Nishimura.
    It's odd to see such a stark contrast between the two styles there done by one person, since at first glance some of the illustrations remind me of amateur fan art (though up close you can see more of the detail and they just look overall /better/) and the other ones have a really cool, expressive style that I generally prefer over SNK's hyper-realistic one.
    That being said, I love Shinkiro's artwork as well and love how his hyper-realistic style brings characters to life in a surreal-feeling way. I just prefer how the Nishimura isn't afraid to be more dynamic, expressive and "larger than life" when it comes to stylizing the characters. It makes Shinkiro's art look rather bland and stiff in comparison, even though that awesome level of skill in rendering is always present.

    both are good, just an apples to oranges comparison. but I do prefer shinkiro's males than his female designs. on a related note, who was the artist for SF3?

    • @Joshua-hg8ru
      @Joshua-hg8ru 6 лет назад +3

      nimaiiikun The three major artists that worked on SF3 were Kinu Nishimura, Akiman, and Daigo Ikeno. Daigo Ikeno did the illustrations you see in the character select screens of SF3: Third Strike and SF4, and the art you see at the end of arcade playthrough. You can see his artwork in this video for the Capcom characters on the left. Kinu Nishimura did the illustrations you see on the Win/Lose screens of SF3: New Generation/2nd Impact. She also did the ending art you see after beating arcade mode. She even did posters for 2nd Impact. You can see her artwork in this video of SNK characters on the left. In CvS2 she did illustrations representing Capcom, drawing both SNK and Capcom characters for the character select screen. Akiman/Akira Yasuda did the art you see on character select screen of SF3: New Generation/2nd Impact. He also did many posters for New Generation. He's the designer of original SF2 characters and original SF3 characters. He directed the design and animation of sprites for SF2 and SF3. Fun Fact! Like really cool. Akiman made a reference sheet back in the SF2 days that would direct how artists in Capcom should animate Street Fighter characters, and how they should proportion them. That reference sheet was used up to SF4, and probably even SFV! He's had a big influence in Capcom!

    I like Snk's shading, coloring, details and DAT ANATOMY, but I don't like how pale characters look TAN, and how everyone's faces look kinda similar
    Yet, I like Capcom's dynamic poses, how well they can make a character look SCARY and how different everyone look from each other, but I don't like the anatomy (it's REALLY off sometimes), or the faces they SOMETIMES have :/

      There's being creative anatomy and making your own rule to it for your own art style
