    I recall an interview where Nishimura mentioned that she originally wanted to be a mangaka. Which makes sense when you look at her art. While her peers have great technical skill their storytelling tends to be weaker. It seems like that mangaka side of her never truly went away since every illustration looks like something from a manga.

    something very special about the late 90s early 00s art of street fighter and capcom in general and she is a huge part of it. whenever i feel down about my art or feel uninspired, i look at sf art from that era and feel my soul singing. my absolute favorite art to look at and aspire to

      Exactly! I think it's really healthy to have one or a couple of artist that truly lift us up. That's also why I have an ever growing artbook collection, I put some music on and just take the them out of my closet and skim through them, which is always a delight to do so.

    Nishimura Kinu and Kojima Ayami, along with Takahashi Rumiko, the CLAMP female founders (Nanase, whom I met online by chance back in 2000, ultimately gave me a job offer as an apprentice artist! Sadly, my family did not support me, so I gave up drawing for 20+ years until last year) all are some of my favourite female artists of all times!
    Very influential on my own art journey that I am pursuing once again in my old age (43), to realise a dream of making comics and other art.
    I adore their works as much (sometimes more!) than my favourite male artists.

      Very compelling story with great reference artist to look up too. It's a shame that your family didn't support you at such a big opportunity. But indeed, in this day and age its possible to do your own thing. Go for it 100%

      @@GameArts1 Thank you kindly for the reply! It was a unique time in history, even internet history, I met Ms. Nanase in a Yahoo! Chat room by chance. We shared some interests in anime choices (her favourite anime was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind) and upon learning I was an aspiring artist, offered to accept my portfolio if I could make it to GirlCon (Girls-only anime convention in Connecticut, summer of 2000)....
      To which, a friend and classmate at the time in IT school offered to drive me up there.....
      DRESSED AS A SAILOR SCOUT. Hoo boy! You've not seen horror until you've seen a 6'2" Irish male with hairy-as-a-bear arms and legs in a seifuku.
      Previously, I'd also befriended two other Japanese natives, one of whom I am still good friends with till today and was working for Squaresoft (prior to the Squaresoft + Enix merger) as the Japanese-to-English Localizer.
      His name appears in end credits to some of the biggest Square games of the day (Final Fantasy), though the funniest story of friendship I have is when he worked on The Bouncer (PS2 game) and asked me to buy it as a show of support/friendship.
      I went out on day 1, found a copy (at the lowest shelf, collecting dust lol) and bought it. It didn't do well at all in sales, but I was proud to support my friend.
      Another friend was an established artist who worked for two major publications as a watercolorist and he was my mentor for art!
      I'll just end this for the sake of not drowning anyone in a flood of text:
      Best thing my artist mentor told me was: "It isn't about being good at art so much that it is about making others FEEL something when they see it!"
      Best advice I've ever had. Thank you for your well wishes! I've begun building a website, and have been relearning a lot of art skills (especially digital art) so hopefully, something good comes of it!

    I don't think it's just the sexual appeal for its own sake. But an emphasis of musculature and exaggerated proportions help show them as fighters. She didn't design them, but shes committed to the attention to detail on bare skin and shading

    • @GameArts1
      @GameArts1  13 дней назад +1

      While I do agree to a certain extent, I really think it depends on the illustration/character tbh, showing panties and shiny breasts in full glory is the main sexual appeal. She even made a comment on one of her illustrations that the cover magazines knew how to show her art in 'full potential' (e.g. text not covering the boring parts so to say). Looking through the SF artist as of yet; Cammy is a favorite among them to ''show', commenting on her behind a lot even if it breaks her spine just to show it.

    Storytellig is key. Internet is littered with thirsty fanart where they pose and dress ANY female character, no matter who she is, in sexually revealing compositions, poses and attitudes that have nothing to do with who the character really is. They basically don't draw the character, they just draw a clueless cosplayer, fishing for likes.

    • @GameArts1
      @GameArts1  13 дней назад

      Yeah, the thing is, any person understand ''conflict'' best shown in fighting/war. Men are the largest portion of Anime. Most woman love ''drama'' psychological conflict in romance. That's the main bulk of money, without conflict there is no story so to say. To the edges of this bell curve you get these intelligent ''conflicts'' this can be science fiction, or series like Deathnote, however to make them appealing to the general audience is hard, because people need to 'get it' and not be lost in a couple of episodes. DN did a great job in this imo with the conflict of ''good versus evil'' on an ethical stand point. (rooting for Kira or L). Also I think the Shinimagimi held the series together for most people to understand, a visual representation of a grim reaper.
