Annual series which means the game itself is actually huge than any other fighting games like Tekken or Street Fighters because have so many series and basically an arcade games and classics, but they really need an upgrades for future game if necessary, in my opinion
KoF 13 was the definitive sprite fighter imo, no game has even come close to topping it yet. I hope SNK hires 2D artists again, but I doubt that's ever happening.
It is really goddamn pretty. Even though they're not necessarily sprites, Them's Fighting Herds and Skullgirls are really pretty 2D fighters. And Guilty Gear Xrd, but GGXrd is fucking cheating.

They went through a lot of questionable art styles, but I'm glad they finally found one that worked. Guilty Gear Xrd is hella pretty, tho. And it's really unique; nothing else like it.

And as for KoF, 12 and 13's art direction were fantastic. I remember thinking that 13 was the gold standard back when in first came out, and I still somewhat think that to this day.
Honestly feel that XIII had the best character select screen. The boxes were big enough to where it was very visible and clear what character was in each box (without looking at the character art on the side) and they added an idle sprite animation for each character as well as character art

2001 select screen used to be my favourite back in the day. The white background with big enough and horizontally spread out icons of the characters looked good. Also when you hover over a character the big character art looks amazing. This mixed with the addicting cursor movement sound that they added in back in 2000 was everything for me lol (it gets annoying when you spam it by moving the cursor non-stop bit if you don't then I think it sounds amazing.). This might be the reason why XIII's select screen looks so damn good too. They put a black background instead of a white one and added idle character sprites while keeping the big enough spread out icons and the big beautiful character arts.

The Japan only game Quiz KOF features Haohmaru, Ryo Sakazaki, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Robert Garcia, and Nakoruru. Takuma Sakazaki is an unlockable character in that game. Yuri Sakazaki is a damsel in distress in this game. KOF XIV is Nakoruru's first canon appearance.

I love the fact Rock Howard is in KOF XIV. He’s my favourite SNK Character of all time. Go for it rock!!! However, my biggest gripe with KOF XIV is the lack of “hidden” characters. Why couldn’t Antonov and Verse be not visible or unlockable after you beat the game?

KOF XI has the only roster done right in the entire franchise! Because of the unlockable and exclusive fighters! All the characters have no forced teams and no forced plots while the hidden ones are still playable by fan-service, it even gives the SNK game devs more creative freedom.

I really don't like XI's one, it's so hard to make out those tiny portraits and way too many characters are just off screen, I get that they're extra but the other games managed to actually fit them within view. On the other side I love how clean and stylish 2001, 2003, and XIII are.

The only problem I have with KOF 2003 is where the whole franchise went off-track because of that game. SNK should've focused on the entire Maximum Impact Saga first before moving onto the Ash Saga.

In the KOF2003 screen, it looks like they've used the same face on Kyo's and Mai's selection portraits...
