    Good morning, Kevin.
I appreciated the video, and did not find out what the PURPOSE of Microsoft 365 is. I am interested in finding that out so I will have to research further-- not many people have the ability to research certain things and find the answers they're looking for because the paths they're on are not to duplicate the other, which explains, in my opinion, through observation, why I would have to research further instead of "end the search" or "search no more" here.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE, Kevin.
    It is useful.

I always liked getting the software in perpetuity. But, subscriptions are growling on me. It's far cheaper than replacing an entire suite of software every couple of years. Or, one application even. As long as the subscription price is reasonable, I think this is the way to go in the future.

I hate the ribbon concept as a default option. I'd like the Office 2003 interface with concise menus. The new Office should have an option for the old conventional interface (with added functionality in the menus, of course) but the easiness and intuitive button layout. The ribbon makes you crazy remembering where every function is embedded and it's no good for your eyes as well!

Financially, subscription favors the Software makers more than if they offer one time purchase, it is so obvious. I don't buy the promise of continuous supports and updates as a significant returns. Usually the updates that comes after two years are minimal and are those that you could do without for the next several years. Significant changes may come after maybe 8 to 10 years in which case you may opt to buy the full newer version and that would have been much cheaper scenario than paying monthly for all those 8 to 10 years (or about a hundred months!) that went by. But we're trapped I guess with this devilish subscription concept.

My family and I have used Google docs for years. I bought Office 365 last year for all of us. My son is in college and needed it for English papers. However, we rarely use it like NEVER. Google docs will do everything we need for free. I don't understand the need to pay for something when the free option is better.

    • @KevinStratvert

You can also use Office for free: ruclips.net/video/DuQyKM7_V-Y/видео.html Main advantage of paying for Office 365 vs. the free option is that you get 1TB of cloud storage per user and offline apps. If you just want online like Google docs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are also free. Google One has a similar price if you want storage beyond the free 15GB (one.google.com/storage?i=m).

A good video to do that I can't find anywhere is: The best way to set up your microsoft 365 subscription service. Is it best to create a Microsoft account first, then use that account to create an outlook and then use the outlook email to create your subscription if that makes sense? Or is it best to create an Outlook email account first and then subscribe using your Outlook email account? Or if you have an exchange account through your work place and you want to use that email address as your 365 subscription because you need your work email synced with it. How do you ensure you achieve this?? Reason I ask is because I subscribed to Office 365 and tried to use my work Office Exchange email address as the user and it just created a duplicate alias but did not sync so I have to log into microsoft or outlook account to access 365 and then log into my work email account separately. Tried to add work email to my outlook. Doesn't for some reason... Need a video how to set this up. It seems so complicated and I'm not totally computer office illiterate. Been using office sweet for over 20 years yet still can't figure this out and have been using seperate 365 window and going back between work email window because I haven't been able to use my work Outlook exchange email and my personal Outlook email through the one Office 365 subscription account. Sorry for gibering on but Im quite frustrated about the whole situation. Paying for the subscription and not being able to use it properly is very frustrating also. Been getting by this way for a year now Help!.. That's my request for a video😂

Thank you so much for the basic explanations and visuals. I came across an issue that I need help with. 1st. I have had Microsoft Office 2016 since 2015-year. and I downloaded GRAMMARLY. One day recently when my laptop did an upgrade in Windows 10 it removed Grammarly and now I cannot plug it back with Microsoft Office. It gives me a message: "We weren't able to find a support Microsoft Office product on your computer. The Grammarly add-support Microsoft Office version 2007 and newer, include Office 365. Would you like to continue the installation anyway?" I don't understand what it means. Is the version of 2016 no longer accepted with the new version 365? Furthermore, I am working on a novel and don't want to lose my years of work if I change it to 365 versions. I prefer to purchase the product once. So, it's frustrating when companies Microsoft Office make it difficult to get human beings to help. I don't understand why I should pay more money to resolve my issue that is caused by the company within. Please help if you can. Thank you, Alla.

A subscription is not a general purpose solution. It works for streaming services, where you get new content almost weekly but for an app, it doesn't work that well. That's because the average users (and I think most consumers fall into this category), just don't care about a few minor features every few months since the core experience stays largely the same. Is there a huge difference between office 2013, 2016 and 2019? Nope, they all work exactly the same for 99% of all use cases. I'd much rather pay once and use it forever instead of worrying about a yearly fee. For businesses, a subscription makes all the sense in the world but for regular users, not so much.

My question is If I wanted to add the publisher program to the Home and Student, can that be purchased separately and added to Home and Student at a later date? Another question I have is I now have Home and Student 2010. Every now and then when I open Word, It says it has to configure and it takes a couple of minutes to do that, It's very annoying. Was it not installed properly? The Excel program has never done that and it was a pert of the same package. I've been getting notices that my version isn't going to be supported any more so I'm thinking about an upgrade.

Hey Doug - even though I work at Microsoft, I'm also not a big fan of subscriptions. What ultimately convinced me to sign up for a subscription for home use (yes, we don't get it for free although we get a discount) is that you get constant updates and 1 TB of OneDrive storage per user. I use this for my video and photo backup. If you share your subscription with others in your family, the cost is pretty low (ruclips.net/video/1Y2ZQqEHQGM/видео.html )... as low as $1.40/month/user on the Home plan. Unfortunately Publisher is only available with the subscription plan (as far as I'm aware).

@@agi185 I finally talked to Microsoft and they stopped the subscription for me and I then was able to install the box one person version. I still am confused on my Mac as to if I have stuff on it that I do not need because my computer seems to run very slow. I am. Trying to uninstall things I understand that I no longer need. The one drive confuses me. Do I need it if I am using a one person version?

@@beverlyhurst6715 I believe after listening to the videos the one drive is part and parcel of the subcription. I don't know if there is any way to disconnect it. All the best.

Is the Access app an SQL database? Can you create sophisticated table joins? Is there any correlation between Access, SQL Server and Azure? I would like to do some personal databases in a cloud environment. Trying to figure out just how sophisticated is Access.

Here's more information about Access databases: blogs.technet.microsoft.com/the_microsoft_access_support_team_blog/2014/06/12/access-database-types-explained/
It's not the most sophisticated database and is more for personal use or small businesses; however, you can build multiple tables, set primary keys, run SQL queries, and join data in your queries. I started with Access to learn about databases and it gave me all of my foundational knowledge on how databases work. Hope this helps!

Hello. I'll get a retail version of Microsoft 365 personal, for 12 months. After this period ends, will I be still charged or it just ends? Thanks.

Is MS Office and Office 365 same, in terms of usage, excluding subscription?

    I still don't get it...
So what exactly is the Powerpoint and Word that come installed on our PC? Are they different from the ones listed under the plans?
This probably sounds very silly but why exactly do we need to purchase Powerpoint and Word if they've already been installed in the system?
I honestly am struggling to understand the concept going on here😭...Could someone please clear this?

@kevinstratvert I’m older versions you could set your excel workbook as read only but editable with password. Does that still exist in Office365 version of excel? Cause I can’t find it
